[PASSED] Repeal "Liberate Politics Amino"

Postby Lord Dominator » Fri Jan 25, 2019 11:28 pm

I honestly hope that this won't be needed, but I also recognize the unlikelihood of managing to turn the whole vote around by minor, so...
Comments and whatnot always appreciated :)

Category: Repeal
Resolution: 277
Author: Lord Dominator

The Security Council,

Recognizing that in the course of events that regions often fall under the sway of raiders seeking to destroy them,

Holding that Liberation resolutions must be passed by this Council to prevent the total destruction and refounding of regions,

Observing the recently needed Liberation of Politics Amino to prevent said events from occurring,

Saddened therefore that Politics Amino was refounded by raider forces before it could be saved from absolute destruction via a Security Council Liberation,

Believing that this has rendered the existence of [resolution=SC#277]SC#277 Liberate Politics Amino[/resolution] quite useless,

Further Believing that the continued existence of the aforementioned Liberation will only serve to make the now trophy region more valuable to its raider owners rather than any useful end,

Hereby Repeals [resolution=SC#277]SC#277 Liberate Politics Amino[/resolution].

This seems to me like an attempt to rub the refound in everyone's face.

Not my intention, and for the record it's not unusual to repeal a liberation if raiders manage to refound it in spite of it.

It's actually happened before. A year or two ago, raiders managed to overturn a defender op halfway through an intended repeal of a liberation. Miraculously, everyone got together and reversed a 10,000-vote margin in two days to make the repeal fail.

I remember that actually, it was quite awesome. I just don't hold out high hopes in this case of the same occurring given that there remains only 10 hours of voting left.

Looks fine from a rules point of view, though I’m a bit rusty reviewing drafts so I might have missed something.

Recognizing that in the course of events that Liberation resolution must be passed by this Council to prevent the total destruction and refounding of regions,

The above clause just feels a bit clunky to me, maybe:

Hmm, fair point about the clunkiness, I just like my 'in the course of events' reference personally.
I'll think on using your wording or perhaps splitting the clause in half to preserve it :p

Edit: Glad to see you back however Bhang

I have made an attempted edit to split the clause so I can preserve my pretentious reference. If it's still fairly clunky I can remove it :)

I have a question, and then potentially some follow-up questions based on the answer to it.

Were you involved in the force that raided and refounded Politics Amino? I don't want to assume just based on your regional and military affiliations.

As far as I'm aware, LD's WA was during the time the raid took place in St Abbaddon, meaning they were not involved.

Yes, the greatest possible hidden motive someone may have to do something on NS is to get a tiny badge on their nation page.
Do you even gameplay?

Don't be disingenuous: there are other ways to be involved or to contribute to an operation.

The proposal states that "the continued existence of the aforementioned Liberation will only serve to make the now trophy region more valuable to its raider owners rather than any useful end" as a reason for the repeal. Does the author actually believe that Politics Amino becoming 'more valuable' as a trophy a bad thing, or is that line just been added for good PR?

In regard to the repeal, I'm not going to vote for it until we've heard from the native Delegate, because while the native community may no longer control Politics Amino I think it should still be up to them, not Osiris, whether the liberation resolution is repealed. It doesn't sit right with me that this repeal has been authored by the Osiran Vizier of WA Affairs on top of the unjustified, arbitrary griefing that just occurred, so I'm going to need to hear from the native Delegate that he wants the liberation resolution gone. I realize the native Delegate is not going to be in a position to respond for a while, so I would suggest waiting to submit this until he's available to comment. It's not like there's a rush -- the liberation resolution is of no benefit nor harm to anyone at present.

Now that there is no chance of disrupting a military operation undertaken by Pacifica's diplomatic partners, I have decided to vote in favor of the liberation resolution to hopefully help ensure it passes and can't be repealed without input from the native community. They really should have some say here, even if it's only symbolic. It's important that the Security Council acts in native interests regardless of who currently controls Politics Amino.

Sort of - he runs a Nazi region but gets pissy whenever someone calls him out on it, wasted four days of the SC's time trying to repeal IA's commendation based on nothing but character assassination, and constantly yells about the "WA Elite".

Oh, and his region tried to commend themselves.

EDIT 2: Yes, I meant Jocospor.

I was involved in the sense that I am in TBH (which I understand was there) and an Osiran citizen, but did not actually have my WA in the region at any point. To answer the presumed follow-up question, the main reason for that being the case is that I have problems remembering to pile on anything I don't do the update jump on, and I rarely attend the update jumps of non-TBH ops.

I do believe that a Liberation on a now-trophy region does serve to make it somewhat more valuable/brag-worthy. As a hard raider I can say I would personally view that as a good thing, as a SC author I am more inclined to say that a trophy region being more valuable as it were is a bad thing. As-is, I am writing this as a SC author and not a raider, so the latter answer is what I am going with here.

Fair suggestion on waiting for submission, I am in no particular hurry to submit this myself. I can also assure you that my writing of this is generally unrelated to my regional affiliations (aside from the usual unlikelihood of my alignment allowing me to play with Liberation anything), and was something I was inspired to do a couple hours after Friday minor based on some conversation on the SC channel of the WA server.

Gee, I don't recall allowing Benja to use my secret technique of "Refounding a region while its liberation is being voted on, thereby wasting the SC's time"™. This is copyright infringement! I'll sue!

Anyway, this resolution is a free badge, whether or not it passes doesn't matter.

I am uncomfortable with a raider authoring the repeal, regardless of their involvement in the Politics Amino raid itself.

The author of the repeal is unimportant to me since the outcome is the same regardless. Liberation seems like a foregone conclusion at this point.

While I do agree with Cormac's opine that the native's voice is important, I will mention that Libertarian Socialist Sol, the native representative of Politics Amino, already somewhat covered the contingency of his absence, by saying that he and his group would simply refound a new region for themselves if regaining control of Politics Amino was not an option (which is the case now, I imagine). He also delegated representation to Oubaograd during his absence, who could presumably be contacted as an alternative. 1 2
