Attico's Kirkland, ViZionSince its humble beginnings in 1888, Attico's Drinkeries has been and is the face of Local Pubs and Alcohol across the expanses of Nouvel Ecosse. Combining a range of appealing qualities, including but not limited to excellent service, fine food and the best alcohol range available, it has been operating successfully now for over a century, and still retains the founding principles which made it such a success in the beginning.
It was founded in 1888 by former Coal Miner Jim Ballart in the City of Endeavour, a thriving industrial city and port. Following his sacking for falling asleep on the job at Platin Coal Mine, Ballart and his family upped stakes and moved south to the big city. There, Ballart bought a run-down Inn by the name of 'The Ol' Mine'. Renaming it after his favourite Saint, the Saint of Drinking & Festivities St Attico, Attico's Drinkerie was born.
Despite the former Inn's rather seedy reputation, business thrived, and word of Ballart's new establishment spread far and wide. Ballart had a taste for only the best, and by scouring the local area for the best in alcohol he started stocking a firm favourite, still popular to this day. That favourite was McCartney's, a lager with a fan base amongst miners due to its taste and remarkable ability to get the taste of coal dust out your mouth. It wasn't long before people from across the country, especially miners, began to make pilgrimages to this fabled pub to witness the experience. Old & Young, Rich & Poor, it catered for all.
It soon became obvious to Ballart that there was too much demand, and that he would have to spread the weight. Thus, in 1890, he bought out two new pubs. Attico's Drinkeries, as the brand was referred to, was on the grow. "The Winking Jouster" was a pub hidden down an alley near the docks of Endeavour, and "Dawnstar" was located in the bustling town of Platin, where Ballart had formerly been a miner. Again, the demand continued to grow, although not so much near as the brand's reputation, which skyrocketed. One strange quirk was that Ballart never bought a successful pub; they were always on their last legs or shut completely. Many put this down to the fact that Ballart valued the family aspect, and a successful pub was a successful family.
Nowadays, Attico's Drinkeries is valued as one of the big three Astyrian Pub Chains, alongside Burgunden BreuPubs & Pub 15. It operates in many countries globally, not just in Nouvel Ecosse, and although it is no longer run by the Ballart family, who sold the company to a local entrepreneur Duncan Forsyth, it continues to retain the same values it began with. Under the watchful eye of Rick Harris, Attico's has transformed into a global brand worth millions, and it is no surprise that they are still looking to expand. To this day, the original Attico's remains open in Endeavour, and is still run by the descendants of the Ballart Family. It has become a Cathedral to good drinking, and still attracts visitors from across the country, if not the World.
Attico's is world famous for its hospitality, atmosphere, fine cuisine and weekly themed nights. It has won numerous awards both domestically and internationally, and it is only now that it has decided that it should finally make itself available to the international community.
