    David Eisenhower Elected President

The votes from the polls that were opened yesterday morning have all been counted. The results show that David Eisenhower has won the presidential election with 61% of the votes. Upon the Department of Internal Affairs announcing the winner, President-elect David Eisenhower delivered a televised speech. In his speech he vowed to never give up on his campaign promises and to bring Texas back to its former glory. Throughout his campaign he made it very clear that he will be hard on the enemies of the Confederacy, and he seems to not be backing down on that. He will be inaugurated on March 1st, 1991.

      New Security Proposal for Limpopo

      December 20, 1990

The Canton of Limpopo has been offered a new security arrangement involving the placement of cameras in public areas and around private dwellings to catch criminals immediately on recording.

Several citizens are worried about the Kapplandic police not respecting their privacy, or about the situation getting out of hand. "Today there are cameras in the streets, tomorrow they're in your home watching you eat your breakfast!" claims a man on public news, angry about this new proposal. "Who knows where it will end!"

Many other citizens however, believe that this may be the gateway to a crime free canton. "I can't believe people are getting so knotted up over being seen in public, if you have nothing to hide why should it matter?" says a business woman when questioned at her place of work in Polokwane, raising a point that many liberals like her agree with. While cameras all over the canton could be a privacy issue for several people, the cameras could do more good than bad. They certainly would stop crime in it's tracks, the real question being, is it worth the cost of our privacy?

      General-Secretary offers meeting with Z-Tech
      Image
      General-Secretary on TV yesterday evening

General-Secretary Mikhail Gorbachad has stated in a TV-broadcasted speech today that he would like to see Pavlovski and Z-Tech leadership meet to discuss the recent diplomatic conflict sparked over oil pricing. The General-Secretary stated he is open to discussion, and that he desires to "find a solution which benefits all involved parties." The General-Secretary expressed his disdain at the "unwarranted, brash and apathetic response" given by the Pavlovski Economic Committee to the initial request from Z-Tech, and added that the island nation is an important economic partner to Pavlovsk which should not be forgotten.

A fresh and blossoming friendship between [Z-Tech and Pavlovsk] has been thrown away in a matter of days over a trade dispute. I wish to see this tragedy undone, and see the friendship between us and the prosperity brought with it continue to grow and develop in the future.

No response has been issued by the Japanese megacorporation as of yet.

Fortalezan Immigrants Shock Tourists with Common Fortalezan Dish

    Image
    Food in Question

Yesterday afternoon, a white tourist from Kaapland called the police in Buona Aria, reporting an "unspeakable travesty". When police got there, they found that this "travesty" was just a Foralezan man making a very common fortalezan dish, Sopa de Macaco. The police laughed at the Kaaplander tourist, who asked not to be named, and a nearby bystander even took a selfie sampling some of the Sopa de Macaco. This article serves as a public announcement to tourists: Sopa de Macaco is a great food, and it is normal in Grandi Alberi.

    God Bless Grandi Alberi!

Road Projects reported to be ahead of schedule in Songjiang infrastructure project

      February 14, 1991

      Image

The Ministry of development reports that the road projects scheduled to be completed for this month have already been completed placing the overall project 26 days ahead of projections and still within budget.

This is welcome news for the project which had been over 2 months behind after a flood stopped work for a time.

It would seem however that progress and development is something the people of Songjiang have craved when the floodwaters receded workers returned to work with an energy never seen during the reign of the Emperors.

Toluca's Drug, Border and Trafficking Problems
It's a well known fact that Toluca is home to some of the most severe and dangerous drug cartels in all of Americas. Former President Ciceron called them "the scourge of Toluca's progress in to a major country on the world stage." But maybe it won't always be this way, with Parliament's new official doctrine regarding the aforementioned.

The Federated Parliament published it's "Directive for the Drug Crime" yesterday. It detailed the government's future policy on the cartel, drug crime and border problems.

What was detailed in this Directive? The directive included budget changes to the Department of National Security, and that money is intended to increased officer numbers in the cities and known cartel hangouts, as well as much more well equipped and trained border guards. The border guards are also intended to increase in size. The above changes are especially meant to target the widespread drug crime and trafficking that occurs in the aforementioned areas.

In regard to policy changes, the government and High Court have decided on much harsher punishments for drug trafficking and cartel membership, but have relaxed punishments for just regular civilian drug use. If someone, with out known or suspected cartel ties, is caught with a small quantity of marijuana or cocaine, they get a warning and small fine. The second time they are caught though, it becomes a felony with a shorter sentencing time then before.

For the sake of Toluca and it's people, we all hope these changes help to combat these major issues.

Stay tuned for all your news at El Diario.

New Dockyard

The Government of Barnetia had decided after a brief logistical period to craft the nation a new dockyard in the Salvador province. Current Barnetian naval efforts are woefully under-equipped, and if we wish to formally advance them we must modernize our tools. With the help of United Brands and the T.F.S. non-profit we have secured adequate funding, and construction is underway. Divisions 5, 7B, and 18 will be moved to man this area in the time being. Hopefully this coupled with foreign help will be the first step to creating a new Barnetian force.

President Korsgaard calls for "european unity "in these troubled times"
In the last hours, a study conducted by the HUI statistical research center on the enormous growth of new non-European realities in world export that has occurred in recent years has shown how this phenomenon has greatly reduced the impact that the continent has on total world's wealth, generating conflicting reactions on various fronts. Some members of the Dem-Soc Parish commented joyfully on the study, showing how the world is moving towards a brighter future even for the poorest countries in the world. A very different tone came from President Korsgaard:
In our opinion, the reality is very different: since the Second World War, the internal divisions of the continent have undermined the wealth of the great export giants; even more evident, however, is how the entry into play of these barriers has brought the smaller nations to their knees, unable to overcome the amount of obstacles that our differences have put before them. This is why we need a union that can make these barriers crumble and create a single market. For the nations of the Germanic area, our proposal goes even further: a mere economic union would only stigmatize our few differences and dilute the many things we have in common. I have already discussed with the representatives of the Rhone Republic and Kychova. That's why I extend a hand to countries like Prussia, Landersvich, Mishpocheh and anyone who wants to join us to improve the region.

The President then discussed the debt that entrenched the country from the nefarious actions of Hatler Idolf and the involvement of Hulm in the Second World War.
The modern Hulm nation has nothing to do with the one that threatened the continent 50 years ago, so we ask for a meeting with President Shevchenko to redefine our commitment to this incredible debt.

Runaway train derailment in Gobi Desert punches big hole in mining iron ore production figures

      February 22, 1991

      Image

The Ministry of Corrections reports that the train belonging to them pulling 268 wagons loaded with 30,000 tonnes of iron ore that derailed, killing 2 guards, and 9 prisoners while injuring 12 others last week has placed the nation significantly behind in steel production figures.

The Ministry of commerce has stated that Iron ore will be purchased from Pavlovosk and Lasir to ensure production doesn't fall behind. If projects do fall behind foreign military projects have been given the least priority for steel.

All but 24 of the wagons of the train were damaged or destroyed by the derailment, along with two of the four locomotives.

The Army
250.000 AK74-s ordered
250.000 AK74-s have been ordered from our friends in Pavlovsk. As soon as these weapons arrive, they will be distributed to the entire Carpathian army. This is just the start of the modernisation process, as soon as we get the required funds, further military expansion is planned.
Better soldiers
From now on, all soldiers will have to go through a series of training exercises, designed to prove the physical and psychical endurance of our soldiers. Current soldiers that have not taken this training will need to pass it in order to continue service and be assigned to the frontline in case of a real war situation.

The International Sofia Trade Fair, a success!
The first edition of the "International Sofia Trade Fair" has been a success. Foreign investors were presented with profitable business possibilities, including the new-and-refurbished oil industry. The economic impact may not be of much signifiance now, but we expect a steady economic progress in the future.

Events from Kakanj
A third plebiscite is expected to take place next month. This time, the hungarian minority in Vojvodina is also demanding to unite with the Kingdom of Balaton.

      Jihad Declared

      February 24th, 1991

Below is a speech transcript from his excellence, Sultan Sheng Shicai:
We are saying what we are saying not out of weakness or as a tactic to an illegitimate end but to clarify facts as we see them. On that basis, we apologise to God for any action that may anger the Almighty if such an action took place in the past, unbeknownst to us but considered to be our responsibility, and to you we apologise on this basis as well.

O, you brothers, what we wish for is what we are working to achieve for your brothers in the Sultanate: to live free, without foreign control of your destiny, will, decisions, wealth, present and future.

Foreign officials said that they meet the Sultanate's opposition for consultations. What kind of consultation is this other than conspiring against the Sultanate and interfering in its internal affairs under foreign supervision?

Why don't the believers, loyalists and holy warriors get together with their counterparts in the Sultanate under the tent of their creator - instead of the tent of Dehli, Beijing and the European entity - to discuss first and foremost jihad against the occupying infidel armies to cleanse the shame and harm inflicted on the people of the steppe?

Our behaviour was prompted by so many actions starting with the red revolution in June 1989 in Songjiang under the auspices of the Europeans.

Then the Songjiang leadership, in February 1991, taunted us by deploying 30,000 soldiers to our border.

For those and other reasons, it was clear to us that danger for the Sultanate was in the offing and that it could not be solved through political channels.

Therefore, under the framework of self protection and protecting everything that is dear, the time has come to fight for our self determination.

As you can see, the foreigners are occupying your homeland ... and as you know, when the foreigners occupy a country, they do not only desecrate the soil but the soul, the religion and the mind.

We and the people of the Sultanate salute those young believers who stand up to the foreign occupier with arms and those who see or believe that it is a shame that requires the cleansing of the land, and of the people, by fire and other means.

President Sent to Summer Home, Speculated Sick

The long-time Barnetian president, 86-year old doctor Juan Jose Arevalo has long since passed his prime. A major contender in Barnetian politics for almost 40 years, speculation over him kicking the bucket have been around since the 70s. Somehow, Arevalo soldiers on through the stress of ruling Barnetia. However, in the early hours of the day, Arevalo was rushed off to his coastal hoem in Panama, with Secretary of State Daniel Ortago taking over duties of rulership. Ortago has declared the election to be sped up, with ballot boxes opening immediately. This couples with certain clauses about election speeding in Barnetia's constitution bring some to believe that the president is dead or dying, and certain contenders for office have risen.

University Opens, Conservative race tightens, & Independent enters race!!

The University of Alcala located in Barcelona has officially opened with over 1000 students starting classes soon. The university is offering classes in Culinary arts through economics and government studies. The school is currently accepting all applications for the next semester and is urging students from abroad to apply as well, stating they thrive to be a diverse place of study. The President of the school worked closely with the Governor of District 7 securing slight funding the get the school started and is now offering scholarships to students who apply for the next semester chosen at random. The school hopes to open more branches to its already diverse studies and campus in the future.

The Conservative primary has became a closer and closer race despite predictions Senator Bowman would win by double digit margins. The latest polls released have all came to the conclusion the race is to close to call. Many Political professors and analyst have stated we'll have to wait until June 24th to be sure who will secure the nomination. Bowman has been under constant fire over his comments towards former women in his past and lgbt rights.

Former Congressman and Secretary of Human Health and Development Dr. Rene Alcabu announced her candidacy for President a few days ago at a rally in her home town. Dr.Alcabu is the under dog in this election but some say if she can play her cards right she may have a chance. Alcabu ran for congress from District 1 in 1980 winning her election as a liberal candidate. She served 4 years before being appointed to the Department of Health where she announced she would no longer be apart of the Liberal party but be a Independent "thinker." Many expected her to run for Governor in District 1. Current polls show her receiving only 23% of the vote if she went against President Gaona today.

The State Department released news that Alicia is in negations with countless European nations to create a "partnership." The Secretary of State answered questions later on but stayed firm by only confirming it would be a "partnership."

      GLN seeks international partners
Ever since it's inception, the GLN has always boasted about it's plans to turn Toluca into a first-world nation with an immense economy to rival the likes of Europe and Texas. Now that the GLN is in power, it has the chance to act on these plans.

Already, newly appointed Secretary of Commerce and Finance, Araceli Lain, has worked on several proposals to both foreign nations and domestic partners to forge ahead a new era of Tolucan economic activity.

The Government has already provided subsidies and grants to hundreds of businesses to kickstart some new economic activity in the Toluca marketspace. Lain has emphasised the importance of services over manufacturing.
Across the world, see that economies reliant on manufacturing are more subject to global depressions, economic breakdown and monopoly than ones reliant on services. Brainpower is more reliable than resources, after all.

Lain has also requested meetings with Yahel and Hulm, two countries that she says can massively benefit from an economic relationship with Toluca, and vice-versa.

The future looks bright for Toluca as the media and telecommunications industries becoming even better national assets.

Antes, Pavlovsk Face Sanctions Under Miller Administration

      February 27th, 1991

Keeping true to his campaign promise, President Miller has enacted a wave of sanctions aimed at hurting the Antes and Pavlovskan states. Items such as vehicle parts, electronic components, machinery parts, steel, aerospace components, and aluminum have been barred from export to the red states. Workers Unions have protested the move and taken to occupying the senate plaza until the sanctions are revoked. This move alone is estimated to have lowered his approval from 52% to 30% among the general populace.

More fanatical voters have also questioned the move and demanded that Gettysburg be added to the list of sanctioned nations. Miller has stated that he will consider extending the sanctions to Gettysburg after his foreign relations team manages to secure alternative markets to offset damage to affected citizens.

      Lawless Tourism Cities
Every political party has it's radicals. Those who seek to push the ideology to new heights, or potentially lows. The GLN is no exception, with eccentric inventor turned politician, Jesus Gilabert. Despite serving some prison time in his youth for irresponsible explosive use and possessing illegal weapons, Jesus has used his unique skill set and reportedly high intelligence to become a respected politician in Toluca, with almost no scandal to his name. That is impressive in Modern Toluca.

However, for the first time in his career, Jesus his shaking up the GLN and Parliament with his radical proposal that critics are calling "anarchic" and "chaotic". Franco Franco, former vice-president and now prominent talk show host has called the proposal a "direct violation of Toluca's national spirit."

What's so scathing about Jesus's proposal?

His proposal detailed a scenario in which key cities around Toluca would be put into special legal zones in which laws are completely different from the rest of the country. The aspect that has everyone enraged is that one of these laws is the complete legalisation and regulation of marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy and various other drugs in these areas. Business regulations and security protocols would also be extremely lax, compared to the rest of the country.

People have gone as far to call Jesus a cartel puppet, but President Santangel has spoken nothing of the proposal, at least to the public, other than he's "intrigued".

We're eager to see the fruit of this proposal, or maybe the tree with wither away into nothing.

State Department releases treaty signed by European allies!!

The State department of Alicia today released an document named the EU Pact. The pact creates strong economic and military ties between all member nations. Hulm, New Prussia, Landersvich, and Alicia have agreed to the pact 100% with Britannia agreeing to join the alliance economically only. Free Trade is free of restriction within the five nations and military alliances and exercises are secured as well.
Secretary of State Eliza Cortez called the agreement a major step in the protection of Alician interest and securing economic partners. The Government also came to an agreement with the nation of Landersvich pertaining to Kosovo. Landersvich agreed to lay off Kosovo and put the differences aside for the sake of Europe. The headquarters of the pact shall be placed in Hulm and diplomats will meet there regarding matters of the pact.

      Election Completed

The long Barnetian election has finally concluded upon the interim president's order, with ballot boxes opening at 3 AM to tally the most votes possible. With the votes coming in, the establishment Popular Stability party of Lazaro Oritz secured a landslide victory with 76.9% of the vote. He was followed by United Brands' candidate of choice, Raphael Machado with 21.3% of the vote. The final 1.8 of the vote was distributed between independents, dominated by the revolutionary left party. The improbable polling numbers have caused many, spearheaded by the National Liberation Front, investigators from T.F.S., and United Brands to believe that the government rigged the numbers. Oritz gets sworn in this May, however the road to presidency is not over yet, with various groups that subscribe to the rigging theory claiming that "there will be blood for justice", as told by the primer leftist candidate Hector Garcia y Usatorres

      Santangel supports Jesus
While Parliament was in session, President Santangel announced his support of Jesus Gilabert's proposal of a scenario in which major cities of Toluca would be put into special legal zones with different, usually much more relaxed, laws than the rest of the country. We encourage you to check out our March 1st issue for more, the major controversy being the fact that Jesus wanted these special legal areas to be completely full of legalised drugs. Infact, in this areas, Jesus would want to see "legal and regulated street vendors selling marijuana, cocaine and various otherwise illegal drugs." Among legal drugs, legal and regulated prostitution, lesser business restrictions, among other changes.

Now, in light of the controversy, Santangel has voiced his support for Jesus's proposal:
The plan is sheer brilliance. It combines a solution to our cartel problem, as well as an amazing economic industry in the form of tourism. With all of this legalised in these special legal zones, the government and control it and allow people the liberty of doing what they want while also allowing us to keep them safe.

Santangel has faced some criticism over his stance, but it seems his support has bolstered support for the pact, indicating the young president's popularity.

Expand

Postby Landersvich » Thu Jan 24, 2019 2:11 pm

New Business in Alicia

Handel, Lutz & Roechmeyer, the multinational Landersvichian bank, who recently opened up in Mbale, has expanded into Alicia. HLR offers investments to businesses, governments, and civil projects. The continuing expansion of Handel, Lutz & Roechmeyer and the low taxes in Landersvich is now causing it to become a haven for bankers, investors, and business people alike. The new offices in Africa are now issuing loans to many of the emerging businesses all throughout Africa; major investments in mining companies are now the norm for HLR-Africa Bank.

Gaulbert Erbauer LP, the multinational construction company, who also opened in Africa, is now open in Alicia. Gaulbert Erbauer is able to build roads, housing, offices, and other major infrastructure projects. The company has offered an Alicia company a steeply discounted construction project in southern Landersvich, which will become an Alician resort.

Alicia companies are also reported to be entering Landersvich; luxury brands are now becoming popular among Landersvich's ultra-wealthy - including the royal family. The new resort in southern Landersvich will also be under the control of the Alician tourist industry.

Free trade agreements in Europe are causing Landersvichian companies to grow at exponential rates.

Defensive military agreements have also been signed among many of the European nations.

Landersvich has eased some sanctions on Kosovo due to the new European agreement.

Diplomats from Landersvich are on Missions in Hulm, Vitolia, Texas, New Prussia, as well as in meetings with high ranking military officials in Balaton.
