      Prime Minister Takes the Papacy

      December 24th, 1990

      Image

The rotten church of Mbale has been exposed for all its filth and corruption by the righteous Prime Minister! Money for blessings, sexual abuse, the whole structure was rotten to the core! With the help of the Prime Minister's very own Schildwacht a raid was performed on the Mombasa Cathedral. These heros came in under the Prime Minister's direct orders and detained all the clergy. They confessed to all manner of crimes before being dragged to the beach where they were given 100 lashes for their sins.

In order to preserve the purity of Catholicism in Mbale and the rest of the world, the Prime Minister announced that he would be taking over as the new official Pope. Flanked by a legion of Mbale cardinals and some Dutch Bishops, his holiness Matubo O'jibu was coronated at the very same Cathedral that he had cleansed of sin. May our new pope be marked as a saint by god!

      Antesian Army Marches On
      Image

      12/27/90
After days of protest in the streets of Toronto, the Antesian Army Soldiers have been greeted with an announcment from Ataman Sergei Hrydnov. After reorganising the budget, the Antesian government has decided to increase spending on infantry food quality, living quality, pay, and general conditions. Hrydnov has been quoted saying "This may be costly now, but will greatly benefit our people in the long run.". He has also dismissed any and all claims of a war with the American Federation, reporting it as a "rumour spread by anti-government groups"
There have also been several rumours going about that a tax rate change was incoming. Whether this change would be good or bad will be known later, if the rumour even comes true, that is.

Alician Fashion a Hit in Kosovo

      December 29th, 1990

      Image

Despite being a relatively poor nation, Alician fashion brand, Bair Jolsonaro, made an effort the wow the handful of elites in the struggling balkan state. A modest runway show was arranged on short notice and proved to be quite charming. While no items sold out, a fair amount of products were purchased on the night of the show. Cocktail dresses and handbags proved especially popular. Our sources confirmed that a building permit in the capital city of Pristina has been granted to Bair Jolsonaro. It may not be a major win for the fashion brand but the move has been rewarded with a slight boost in share prices.

In a world dominated by Joseon, Texan, Vitolian, and Britannian fashion, Bair Jolsonaro brings in fresh concepts and iberian charm.

Military Exercise to begin January 1st!

It seems that the military is kicking off the New Year with a large military exercise taking place in Camp Ripley Minnesota! Units from Wisconsin and Michigan are expected to participate. The large majority of the units will be conducting winter survival training as well as winter combat training. God bless these men and women that serve our country, and let's hope they stay warm!

      Miller Wins Ohio Presidency

      December 30th, 1990

      Image

With the last district being called, it's safe to say that Miller has won a landslide victory. Tyrone Miller met a crowd of 20,000 supporters in Cincinnati to celebrate and double down on his campaign promises. First on the agenda is an expansion of the armed forces to "better meet the reds." Along with this expansion Miller plans on restructuring the tax brackets to favor the middle class (at the expense of the rich) and adopting the GLC's social and fiscal policies.

Generals, Investors, and Global Leaders will be observing the Ohio legislature to see if these promises are hollow.

      Decade of Oil

Oil hit a new high for the 67th week in a row. This unprecedented growth seems utterly unstoppable as rising economies like those in Toluca and Songjiang begin to rapidly adopt consumer vehicles like cars, trucks and tractors. Independent analysts from the Madrid Natural Resource and Energy Group have predicted prices as high as $400 a barrel in 2005. They claim that the uplifting of 3rd world nations like the Indian Emirates and Mbale will create a nearly insatiable demand for oil. When compared to this predicted price, oil stocks seem like a no brainer.

Advanced drilling into potential oil wells in Santa Rosa, Riviere Verte, Nyala, Mbale, and the Igbo Republic has begun by various public and private groups to try and capitalize on the prices.

Economic Development
Oil
As the year 1990 comes to an end, the government published an economic development plan for the next year. Seeing the rise in oil prices, Carpathian engineers have been rushing the expansion of the Ploiesti oil fields. Although other nations have more oil resources, they are far away. Carpathia is destined to be one of the leading oil providers in Europe, so we must enter the 'oil race' quickly. The expansion of the oil fields will be finished next month.
Weapons Industry
It is known that the armaments of Carpathian soldiers is not fit for their job. For this reason, 1991 will be the year when the first original Carpathian weaponry will start seeing usage from the army. The new weapon designs are not known yet but the staff of the Cugir weapons factory inform us that the weapons are easier to manufacture due to more efficient production methods.
"Invest in Carpathia!"
An event dedicated to foreign investors, the International Sofia Trade Fair is scheduled on 15th of February. The investors will be presented with various business possibilities, advantageous for both the country and the investors.

Cultural events, but more
The Ministry of Culture has announced that the cultural exchanges between Carpathia and Pavlovsk will be more often from now on. "Any friend of Pavlovsk is also a friend of Carpathia, and they are welcome to all of these events".

Army modernisation
The Carpathian army is one of the few in Europe that still uses WW2 weapons. This is outrageous, as the Carpathian people deserves much better. The Minstry of Defense has launched the 'Five Year Plan', which sees the transition from rags to riches.
New equipment will be used by the Carpathian army. Weapons will be purchased from foreign sources until the new Carpathian weapon designs are in production. The bought weapons have to be cheap and reliable, and outperform previous weapons by a large margin.
Modernisation of the equipment is not the only goal. The army composition will also be changed, aiming for a professional army mixed with conscripted soldier. Carpathian schools will also list the Army as a viable job provider.
[box]Events from Kakanj
The government of Kakanj still refuses to accept the plebiscite. Although Carpathia wishes to maintain good relations with Kakanj, such actions can be hardly forgiven, since they have actively refused dicussing this subject. We hope that in the next year we will find a solution.

      New Year, New Senators

A surprising new turnout for the New Year, the Senate has decided to open up two new seats, and several campaigns have sprung up throughout the Commonwealth. It appears that 14 CLP candidates that have cropped up, and only 10 CCP candidates have decided to contest the opposing party for the seats. However, only two can be elected.

If you want to support your representative, reach out to your local campaign office and help decide who shall become the new Senator. The Tribune will be glad to update the citizens of the Commonwealth once preliminary elections have concluded.

However if you can't wait and want to see who's running, turn to page 9.

Empire of Landersvich

Postby Landersvich » Thu Jan 17, 2019 8:42 pm

Empire of Landersvich

Economy

The Landersvichian economy is mostly free market with major developments that come from the private sector. The economy is mostly made up of small arms manufacturing, banking, and tourism.

Landersvich is investing in the development of Balaton; they are issuing bonds to the small nation to help them develop industry and infrastructure. Many of these loans hold Balatonian businesses, power plants, and state-owned lands as collateral.

The construction of a new port in the northern borderlands has been finished - improved technology allows for more efficient trade, repairs, and ship construction. The new port will also house an improved Naval dry dock.

Due to tense relations with Kosovo, the Empire has imposed strict trade sanctions - Landersvich would prefer other nations follow suit.

Government

The Empire of Landersvich is governed by an Emperor who serves for life based on family lineage. A constitution is in place to allow citizens certain rights, which are limited to; Freedom of Religous practice, Freedom from servitude (slavery), and allows for a provincial government. Each province may elect leaders who determine lesser laws, educational practices, and other public services.

Interests

The Empire has interests in:

Balaton: Unclear

Kosovo: Tense relations, economic sanctions, historic greviances.

Hulm: Wants to create a Free Trade Agreement, continue to improve relations.

Alicia: Wants to create a Free Trade Agreement, improve relations.

Your daily report from Madrid

During a press conference today the President was asked if he had been in contact with the newly elected President of Ohio. He stated "No i haven't but i'd like to take this moment to publicly congratulate President Miller. I like the guy i really do and hope our nations view towards each other can grow in the right direction" The President also announced that if re-elected he would not re-appoint Vice-President Ricardo Montello. He stated that he had made a short list of potential candidates but would officially chose one after the primary. Many political analyst have predicted the presidents new VP pick could possibly be Secretary of State Eliza Cortez, the newly appointed Governor of Cordona Ricardo Espina, or even a congressman from a swing district he might need during the election.

The Department of agriculture announced today they would be granting more subsidies to sugar cane farmers in Cordoba. The department already granted subsidies to Tea and Olive Oil farmers. Many are saying this is showing the growing importance of the Department. Cordoba is expected to increase production and exports of the sugar to central and North American countries.

Cordoba has been in the news a lot lately and it doesn't seem like it's going to slow down anytime soon. The bill introduced by Andrea Tejador to allow Cordoba to elect it's own Governor passed the House by 112-88 and will now go to the senate where it will need a simple majority to grant the territory this power. Cordoba cruise ship line, sueños azules, now operates two cruise ships. Both traveling from The Texan Confederacy. Cordoba has also now started marketing itself as the best place to have your honeymoon. The marketing has been released across North America and homeland Alicia.

The conservative candidates for President have been traveling the country. Henry Bowman is under fire yet again for a leaked recording of him stating "If it was up to me completely, the gays would be deported to the islands in the Atlantic or something." Governor Camilo during a speech given today stated "In my personal opinion yes, it's unnatural, but these people are citizens and no they shouldn't be deported. On the debate about marriage, leave it up to the Districts."
Current polls still show Senator Bowman leading with 51.3% to Governor Camilos 48.7% but Camilo has been gaining ground.

Three Toulcan citizens were arrested on the Barnetian border by Alician officials. The Governor of Cordoba released information that the 3 suspects were all male and members of Las Griegas and neither Government of Toulca or Barnetia had reached out. The president stated the prisoners would stay in Alician custody until either country offered to take them while the Governor stated if the prisoners are kept more than another month he'll ask the President to release the men back on the Toulcan border.

Queen Mary Caverly has been touring the nation the past month but cancelled the rest of her stops to head back to the Royal Palace. Her spokesmen announced the queen's mother sickness was still effecting her and the Queen wanted to be with her mother. Politicians and citizens alike across the nation have been sending the Queen prayers for the Queen Mother.
A former maid for the Royal Palace has came forward stating the Queen is 3 months Pregnant and the father is her spokesman. The Royal Place has yet to respond to the rumor but did release a statement saying the maid was let go from the Royal's services due to her being outside of her station multiple times.

Media mogul rises in PLR ranks
Antonio Lardesi seeks to take over and transform the corrupt and decimated center-right party

Image
Antonio Lardesi
SANTA ROSA - After the impeachment fiasco and resignation of President Raul Romero last year, the Liberal Republican Party (PLR), Santa Rosa's biggest right-wing party, was left decimated. Corruption and money laundering stained the image of the party and all who associated with it. Among the ashes of the party is none other than Antonio Lardesi, a prominent Santa Rosan media tycoon and oligarch, who has soared in the party's leadership, seeking to transform it in his image.

Lardesi has always been a member of the PLR and supported Romero's government up until the late 80s, when he cut his support for seemingly no reason. It wasn't until the impeachment proceedings began that Lardesi began publicly speaking out against Romero, with his news station Canal 5 covering most of the events. Lardesi then later accused Romero of being a "traitor and a failure to this country."

After the election of Tito Perez and the rise of the populist movement of Plutarco Dijker, the conservative market hardliner decided to ingrain himself in the PLR's inner workings, making connections with congressmen of the party who felt they had nothing left to lose. In only half a year's time, Lardesi earned a seat on the party's National Committee, giving him significant sway and influence over it's policy and choices.

Lardesi has been described as the "loudest voice in the room" in business, often shouting at people during corporate meetings and never failing to use expletives. It's not a stretch to assume that a similar situation is occurring in the PLR's National Committee these days.

Now, Lardesi wants to purge the party of it's old guard and raise a new corps of candidates that will present a market-based alternative to Dijker's right-wing populism. "We can't let the conservative side die to a man who runs on the whims of the average idiot," Lardesi said, referring to Dijker and his PDN.

New Roundel Adopted by the Military

      January 7, 1991

      Image

Although the sunburst remains on the Songjiang flag and will likely remain so for a long time new military roundels have been decided on to distinguish the new republican military from that of the old Imperial Military.

Likewise the blue livery of the Imperial Air force is to be done away with with exhibition aircraft now having red livery instead.

The sunburst will remain on branch emblems but the blue is to be replaced with red. this is to happen to all branches of the armed forces effective immediately.

Britannia's Response to the flight BA 2049 attack

Following the terrorist attack on British Airways flight BA 2049 the Britannia government has called for closer security ties with former commonwealth nations. As the incident took place over Perth and the first response was from a Perth control tower, the Britannia government has especially asked for increased intelligence service cooperation to stop future attacks from happening. Looking through passenger manifest the identities of the victims are majority from Britannia itself but also many former commonwealth citizens. Furthermore, Britannia MP Tony Blair was also killed during the attack. Tony Blair was attempting to visit his mother who lived in Perth at the time, Tony Blair had an enormous connection with Perth and Britannia a like. We can only assume that Mr Tony Blair’s death with not only hurt Britannia’s political arena but also Perth’s. Having such close connections with both states may help with the idea of integrating both Perth and Britannia’s Intelligence services to aid and help one another to stop future attacks.
Image

In other news the Britannia government also attempts to aid in giving more leverage for Perth to join the newly formed Commonwealth Economic League. The government announced that if joined, state owned companies such as BP and the Central electricity board will be granted to make substantial investments within the State of Perth. Moreover, private enterprise Lancaster Industries has promised large investments in key economic areas if the state of Perth is to join the new Commonwealth Economic League. Additionally, many other British firms are extremely interested in trading with Perth and purchasing many of the nation’s products and services. Economists believe the initial investments are to be around $10 Bn and if the venture succeeds much more will be flooded into the nation. Moreover, the massive increase of exports from Perth to Britannia is surely to prop up Perth Markets.

Paris' Insatiable Demand for Barentian Coffee

      January 10th, 1990

      Image

The recent troubles in southern France have made it quite difficult for us Parisians to get their fix of Tanah beans, most shipments now opt to go around Africa instead of risking mediterranean passage. Shortages and price hikes have become the new norm, and a cup coffee can end up costing $10 for any quality blends. That was the case until local stores started ordering from alternative sources, mainly northern Barnetia. Their coffee proved to be more than satisfactory and the price was definitely a hit. For just $2 in any coffee shop you can enjoy a cup of America's finest. Its now become the dominant brew in downtown Paris' coffee shops and its even beginning to get stocked in supermarkets.

To think that anything good could come from Alicia's children.

Such as what to do with Jewish minorities in southern Prussia, the P.O.W. issue, and lastly getting the Mishopechian government to officially acknowledge the Holocaust and pay reparations.

Key International Expansion

Expanding outside of our main region of service has been both a necessity for us to grow as a company and a major challenge for our company. Yesterday however, a major step was taken into the direction of international expansion. An important agreement was reached with the Yahel based corporation of Qatar Pharma. This agreement would consist of the MTC shipping opium to Qatar Pharma for use in medical and pharmaceutical products such as morphine and other opioids. The agreement will have Qatar Pharma paying a fee of $125 per pound of opium, which should cover wage, production, shipping and tax costs for the high quality opium produced by the MTC itself. This move will hopefully prove beneficial for the MTC as we gain both presence in a foreign market and begin to build trust with foreign medical and pharmaceutical firms.

As Oil Prices Rise, Z-Tech Considers its Options

Oil continues to get closer $200 a barrel the major industrial powers of the world find themselves needing a change in strategy. Previously oil trade from Lasir and Pavlovsk has been largely insufficient to meet the rising demands of the Z-Tech Corporation. In a recent mission to the Afghan Republic, the Z-Tech delegation affirmed that it would cooperate closely with the middle east and prevent the spread of "harmful" foreign ideas from interfering with their respective regimes. While not explicitly named, we can only assume that this was aimed at Pavlovsk due to its recent market liberalization efforts that saw several sharp changes in the flow of oil, specifically a shift from politically incentivized trade routes to those that are more commercially profitable.

Z-Tech has officially requested that Pavlovsk state and private oil secure a price of $100 a barrel for the next three years to maintain "harmonic relations" between the two great powers. With prices quoted at $168/barrel it seems unlikely that the new Pavlovskian private sector will agree to such a drastic loss in revenue.

      Holy Army Takes Addis Ababa

      February 7th, 1991

      Image

After weeks of fighting the cowardly hordes that make up the Habesha "army", our crusaders have purged the heretical city of Addis Ababa of all dissenters to the word of christ. With generous support from the Songjiang military and the Prime Minister-Popes' own hired mercenary forces, the Habesha government has been entirely unable to withstand the advance of our warriors. Let it be known that Africa will follow the holy mandate of Prime Minister-Pope O'jibu.

To compensate the army for its magnificent effort the Ministry of Defence has agreed to raise the wages of all privates from $95 a month to $135 a month. Stay strong Mbale, and stay faithful!

      Image
      Oil wells in Azerbaijan

In response to the request from Z-Tech Industries to lower oil prices to $100/barrel for 3 years, Pavlovski State Economic Committee has issued a statement, stating that all oil companies based in Pavlovsk which export product to Z-Tech must maintain a price of $100/barrel for the next 3 years starting in May 1991. However, it does not state that any oil companies will be required to export to the megacorporation, nor does it institute any incentive to export to them over other nations.

The Economic Committee's report makes no implication that current exporters to Z-Tech should continue to do so, nor does it recommend the opposite. However, common sense implies that current exporters will now be looking for new, more lucrative export partners in the near future in order to avoid having to sell to Z-Tech at the extremely low price.

      United Fruit Expands

The United Fruit Company, headed by billionaire Zamuel Semmuray has long been an overshadowing force behind Barnetian politics. However, with the new year, in collaboration with the Panama Peeper the Mixco Post is going to count down United Fruit's actions in 1990.
The United Fruit company went through massive reforms this year to extend beyond simply Bananas. The flagship business of Barnetia took advantage of the rising number of college graduates in Barnetia, investing in the blossoming pharmaceuticals industry and making generous donations to Fitzgerald Ocampo University. Beyond this Zemurray personally took out a significant share of stock in Trans-Fiction Systems, the Barnetian-Texan technology company that created Minesweeper and Hidden Agenda. Additionally, Cocoa and Sugar plantations were significantly expanded. Finally, upon an oil strike in northern Barnetia, United Fruit attempted and failed to purchase the gas-rich land. Sadly this effort was thwarted by local businesses. All of this caused them to rebrand into the United Brands Corporation, modernizing the classic Rifle on their logo. United Brands also found much success in foreign relations, using their Minesweeper investments to next a diplomatic guarantee from Japan for Barnetia, and having Zamuel Semmuray meet with a Hulmer representative for an unknown reason. Finally, the company has made great donations to the presidential bid of Raphael Machado, representative of the Catholic Reform Party.
No matter what happens to Barnetia, United Fruit still soldiers on in their business, ever expanding. One may wonder what they would do with a much greater quantity of power, but award-winning journalist Ali-Reza Arfa had called such thoughts "a childish fantasy".

Premier Rochefort seeks to strengthen diplomatic relations with Tanah Naga
Apologizes for aggressiveness of past regime
Earlier today a summit between Premier Rochefort and President Robert Suharto of Tanah Naga took place in Singapore. Premier Rochefort announced it as part of his plan to strengthen diplomatic relations with neighboring countries in the region, including Songjiang, Japan, Nieuw Leiden, Arakan, and the United Indian Emirates. The meeting today focused on fostering new economic and governmental relations between the two nations. Premier Rochefort said in a speech:
The current administration of Lasir would like to apologize for the past aggressiveness that the military dictatorship showed towards our friends. In order to survive in this world today, we need not strife, but unity. Peace and prosperity is the only way to help our nations grow, and I hope that meetings such as these will succeed in that fact. Lasir would like to welcome all Tanah Nagans into our homes, and hope that they feel welcome here. I thank you, President Suharto, for having me here today, so I may start off the New Year straight with the resolution of the Lasirian people: To become stronger together, for all of us.

The speech was met with applause from both Tanah Nagans and Lasirians. President Suharto announced interests in developing certain economic policies between the regions, and supported the idea that the Lasirian and Tanah Nagan militaries should perform joint wargames in order to better train their arsenal of democracy. As Southeast Asia becomes more tightly knit, Lasir seems to be becoming an ever increasing epicenter of economic, political, and cultural interests.

MOLAN commander meets Mbali PM
Buenpensar Tshinga converts to Mbali Catholicism, becomes Patriarch of Bahia Negra

Bahia Negra - Matubo O'jibu was welcomed in Bahia Negra with thunderous applause. The blackest city of Santa Rosa embraced the Prime Minister of Mbale, Archbishop of Mombasa, Vicarius of Crystumbo and Pope of the Mbali Catholic Church like no other leader.

The PM then met with Buenpensar Tshinga, the Commander of MOLAN, to discuss relations between Mbale and the organization. An official spokesperson of MOLAN stated that Mbale and the group are "greatest allies" and that an exchange of gifts was made.

Following the meeting, Tshinga revealed that he was anointed Patriarch of Bahia Negra, commanding the first episcopal see of the Mbali Church outside of it's origin country. Commander-Patriarch Tshinga also emphasized the need for a "black spiritual revolution" under the direction of the Mbali Church, calling for liberation from the "white-dominated Roman Church."

PLR congressmen have called for an investigation into whether or not MOLAN is being funded by the Mbali government, which would be a violation of campaign finance laws.

CLASSIFIED

REPORT: PIPI DE JANANA

2/7/91

A man named Pipi de Janana was arrested yesterday in Toluca, found attempting to smuggle drugs from Grandi Alberi to Toluca via commercial aircraft. The man was taken into custody and extradited to Grandi Alberi, where he was interrogated by Mario de Lasagne. Pipi didn't say anything about who he works for. Wether he has any connection to AQPK is unknown, but the matter is being investigated thoroughly. The man's corpse is being ground up via a wood chipper and buried at sea. Pipi de Janana's existence is being covered up. Hopefully, through enough investigation, we'll be able to uncover who he was working for and get in contact with them ASAP. Mario de Lasagne has been fired from his position for his failure to extract enough information.
