Are you planning to dominate this competition, but what to know exactly how to go about it?

First: Create a roster. This will get you a roster bonus. Not all rosters get the same bonus, though, as some are made to be real fancy and look like a ton of time and effort was spent in preparing it. They will get the higher roster bonus. But, if all you want to do is list a bunch of names, you will still get something.

Then: Roleplay, roleplay, roleplay. You can have success here as a first time nation, but you have to work for it, too.

Within the roster, many people also provide descriptive information about their home stadiums. Half of your qualifying games will be played within your country, and this a great chance to showcase your venues to the world.

IMPORTANT: When creating a roster, you should include the following information and the specific corresponding answer for your nation. This is important, because the person who roleplays the game first is the one who determines how a score is arrived at (assuming they have roleplayed a game summary). The answers to these questions are whether or not they are able to do the following things concerning your nation.

What they mean:
Choose my run-scorers: Can the opponent decide who scored for your team. Note that this includes ONLY how you’re individual players may have played, on an individual level. If you’re opponent says their starting pitcher struck out 15 of your hitters in their 1-0 win, then that is fine regardless of your answer, because it is a direct individual fact about the performances of their pitcher. If you answered no here, and they then said a particular batter struck out four times, then and only then do they violate this permission. Moral of the story, saying no here gives you control over how your players play, only. Not how the opponent’s players play. Most users answer yes to this.

Choose my lineup: Allows the opponent to determine any old lineup for your team. Most teams will include a lineup, and set this permission as no, and to follow their lineup. However, if you don’t really care, feel free to say yes.

Follow my Pitching Rotation: Same general idea as Choose my lineup, but with the rotation. Tip: Always check your opponent’s RP for their prior game to see if they declared a starting pitcher for your game, as well.

Godmod Scoring Events: This allows your opponent to be very specific, in complete detail, about your runs scored.

RP Injuries to your players: Answer accordingly. Some nations will include a caveat here that they are allowed, but only to say a play was hurt and nothing else, so that they can be the one to determine what happened.

Godmod Injuries: Taking the above to the next level. Can they do whatever they want in regards to injuries. Answer accordingly.

DH Used at home: Whether or not we use the DH is determined by the home team. (Much like it is in Major League Baseball). Here you are saying whether or not the DH is used when you are home.

Eject My Players: Can they eject your players? Some nations will include a caveat here as well that “for every one you eject your team, you can eject one/two/or more on mine.”

Godmod Other Events: We get silly on NS Sports. You have to have fun once in a while, after all. What this is asking if is the opponent can RP something completely crazy and unrealistic about the game, such as “the catcher put a spell on the basestealer as they were running, to make them fall.” or, “The pitched ball became invisible, so the batter had no hope.”, or even “Space aliens invaded, and decided they liked our flag better, so they helped our team with their significantly advanced technology”. If this kind of fun is for you, then put yes. If not, then put no. If you’re open to it, but don’t want to be completely caught off-guard, a message to say “telegram me your idea first” is common.

Other Info: Is there other information about your team you want us to know about? This is usually about a team’s playing style. A nation with an aggressive playing style may say they always look to take the extra base, and want to steal a lot of bases. A nation that wants to have their team to be explosive may want to say they score most runs via the long ball. Or, it could be to say something about your pitchers, like to never have a starter go more then 5 innings.

TRAVEL GUIDE

Are you coming to Cassadaigua to enjoy the World Baseball Classic? Great! Here’s what you will need to know.

1) Where is Cassadaigua? How do I get there?

Cassadaigua is located in the region of Rushmore, and more specifically south-central Rushmore.

The best recommendation to get here is to fly in, unless you are from nearby in Rushmore, you may just want to drive or take a train. All Cassadagan cities have a major airport, and the nation has an advanced rail system as well. If you insisted on traveling by sea, there are some easily attainable port cities to make it very convenient, but we suggest flying in.

2) Will I be safe? What is crime like?

Cassadaigua is no more or no less safe then any other nation. Some consider our crime rates to be a little high, but law enforcement and a general security presence will be very apparent and will protect you. Things still get seedy in the Grande Mountain area from time to time, but our security will try their best to keep the men's rights protests to a minimum.

3) Tell me more about your female-dominated society. Are male tourists safe?

Cassadaigua’s society is different then what is seen throughout most of the world. In our nation, the female is the dominant gender and is superior to the male. This should not be surprising if you have followed our own national sport teams in even the slightest of ways. There are some groups who feel that men are greatly oppressed in our nation, but that is not really the case. If you are a man, and you are visiting Cassadaigua, as long as you are aware of our somewhat different culture, you should not have a tough time fitting in. After all, Cassadagan men that play by the rules here and respect their role can be very successful themselves. As long as you respect our culture, you should be fine while you are here. If you act disrespectful, then don’t be surprised if you are soon put in your place. You are expected to follow all Cassadagan laws, even if it is not a law in your own country,

4) I’ve been to nations that have talking ponies, or banned cars, or taxes on every little thing. Should I expect anything like this?

Cassadagans love horses, but there are no talking ponies here. At least not that we know of. If we have any sentient immigrants from nations like Equestrian States, they keep a very low profile. Cars are very much a way of life, and our taxes aren’t anything out of the ordinary, and if anything are a little lower then average. Cassadaigua is modern, economic powerhouse. There are no unusual factors associated with the country, other then the gender differences.

Socially, Cassadaigua is open to members of all faiths, and we respect your right to worship your respective deity in the way you see fit; or to not worship one at all. Homosexuality is accepted in the country, though we can’t promise that some random drunk in the stands or on the streets won’t make offensive comments.

As far as drinking is concerned, the legal age is 18, though many get away with underage drinking as it is not as aggressively policed as it may be in other lands. However, do not drink and drive. If you are caught, you will have a greater jail sentence then you might be expecting, and if you kill anyone by drunk driving, you will receive the death penalty.

Smoking anywhere in public is banned, but legal in your own home. This applies to both cigarettes and marijuana. All other recreational drugs are banned.

5) Where will the games be? Tell me about the cities, please.

Games will be held in Concord Heights, Brattleboro, Grande Mountain, Rutland, Winchester, New Lakeland, Victoriaville, and Starksville.

Concord Heights- This is the nation capital, and the city has hosted many international championships before, including the World Baseball Classic 18, 40, and 43 title series. You’ll find the city in northeast Cassadaigua, and there are plenty of things to do while here. We won’t get into all of them, because if its on your mind, simply put, its in Concord Heights. Within the city, you will find the most traditional Cassadagan citizens; the ones least likely to be listening to MEN (Male Equality Now) or any other of men’s rights messages. The University of Concord Heights is the nation’s most accredited higher learning institution, but if you want to leave Cassadaigua looking better to impress people at home, check out Concord Heights Beauty School for all kind of tips on looking your best, and museums dedicated specifically to the ultimate in vanity.

Capacity: 72,000

Brattleboro- The most rapidly growing city in Cassadaigua recently topped Grande Mountain in terms of population. Brattleboro sits immediately alongside the border between us and Sicoutimont. The technological age is what has caused the rise of this city, thanks in large part to the prestigious Brattleboro Technical Institute. Graduates remained committed to the area, and are since having families of their own. Overall, there is a younger demographic here, age wise, and that coupled with the name of the city has led to others to call its residents “Brats”.

Stadium Dimensions: LF- 346 LCF- 352 CF- 369 RCF- 360 RF- 352 (walls are 12-feet high in all but CF. There, it is 16 feet)
Capacity: 70,000

Grande Mountain- Another large city, there has been some controversy in Grande Mountain lately. Most of that pertains to the local university, and you should be safe as long as you mind your own business. Those with a long term memory about Grande Mountain, and recent protest that have taken place here can take solace in knowing that has not been an issue in the last couple years.

Capacity: 65,000

Rutland- A port city in southeastern Cassadaigua, Rutland sometimes gets lost in the shuffle with the other cities in tournaments like this. It could use a bit of a makeover, but local officials have concentrated efforts on the port itself, and as such the rest of the city could appear ignored. It is true that many are migrating out of Rutland because of this, and it’s possible that it might not appear as a host city much longer.

Capacity: 54,000

Winchester- The anti-Brattleboro in that while Brattleboro is a younger city, demographically, Winchester is a place that a lot of retired people have migrated too, to get away from big city life. In the process, they created a big city themselves, but you’ll notice that this city doesn’t have same kind of pizzazz as others. You’ll find more bingo halls then bars in the city, and residents only agree to allow the city to be used for international events because of the money you’ll bring in to the city. So that they can gamble it away playing bingo.

Capacity: 58,000

New Lakeland- If you want to enjoy Cassadaigua and go to a city with the most gender equality, then New Lakeland is the spot for you. The reason is, that this used to be a city in Secristan before Cassadaigua took it over, therefore its origins aren’t the same. As time has gone by, Cassadagan lifestyle has begun to take it over, but there many relics of its history still prevalent on the streets. It’s the most capitalist city in the country, but given that origin, that shouldn’t be a surprise. City has seen a lot of recent sporting success with New Lakeland University winning the NSCAA 9 title, and the New Lakeland Tycoons winning the Club Baseball Classic.

Capacity: 88,000

Starksville- Like Brattleboro, this is a growing city, and it’s also beginning to replace Rutland as being the nations top port city, given that it’s closer to Concord Heights then Rutland may be. It’s a great spot for beaches and nightlife, though doesn’t have a lot of history to go with it.

Victoriavile- As the most populous city in Southwestern Cassadaigua, Victoriaville again returns as a host city to give Dagans living in this area some close games to travel too. There’s nothing really wrong with the city, it’s just not as big as the others.

Blue Jays return to famliar friendly rival

ST. CATHERINE -- It's only fitting it's Cassadaigua.

After last Classic's drama with former reliever Garry Barnett III that ended with a quarterfinal round loss to the Dagans, Classic 45 will be in the home of the pink and black. The Blue Jays will be minus a reliever, and also for the third time ever, be wearing memorial patches on their uniforms. This time, it's "ML".

A post-script to the Barnett saga: once the team returned, he was charged with a litany of crimes, and ended up being found guilty of slander, prostitution and multiple other crimes. The judge (who admitted during sentencing that he was a Jays fan and disgusted with the spectacle) sentenced him to eight years in prison, and a permanent ban on foreign travel. The NBL also banned him for life for conduct disparaging to the league.

In news relevant to this Classic, the roster remains the same otherwise; Barnett has not been replaced as yet. Some fans have suggested the squad reach out to his father, Hall of Famer Garry Barnett, Jr., who is extremely well-respected throughout baseball. No comment has come from either the LBA or Barnett's representatives.

Baseball Beepee finished third in the inaugural Prarie Classic hosted in North Prarie.

In WBC 43, Beepee qualified second in their for the first round proper, losing 2 -1 To West Phoenicia. However, Beepee failed to qualify from the group stages in WBC 44.

Baseball Beepee has an overall win:loss record of 36-27 in international matches.

Manager Homer Unn also won the manager of the tournament award at the Prarie Classic.

Additional Information that is very important to me: Newmanistan does not prescribe to the modern day concept of pitch counts determining how long a starting pitcher is kept in for. In fact, pitch counts are not even kept track of outside of curiosity sake. Such count is not displayed on the scoreboard, so if you want to track it for your pitcher, you must do it manually.

– If Newmanistan has given up 2 runs or less and WON, then the starting pitcher has gone all nine innings. No ifs, ands, or buts. This is true even if it would have been a save situation.

– Another Newmanistan trait is aggressive base stealing. Think back to the days of Vince Coleman and Ricky Henderson in their primes.

Head Coach: Jessica Hedstrom, 50, Southport Tigers (WBC Debut)
– Wait? Who is this? What happened to Ashley Stevens? As you will notice as a theme with this roster, World Baseball Classic 45 is a transition year. Stevens, now 67, announced her official retirement from the ENBL, and with that, the national team. So now, Hedstrom becomes just the third ever coach of the Rockets. The prior two won four, then two, titles, so the shoes that need filling are pretty bid.

Hitting Coach:Emily Martin, 52, Southport Tigers (WBC Debut)
– Coach Hedstrom bring in a familar face, as the former hitting coach, Chelsea Benjamin, is now 64, and still does the job with Pocono City, but officially declared that she would not be back to the WBC even if Hedstrom wanted to bring her in.

Pitching Coach:Rachel Cerullo, 55, Dover City Mountaineers (WBC Debut)
– You have probably noticed this trend now. Another new addition to the coaching staff. Cerullo was a great starting pitcher in her day and should be fine in this role.

STARTING ROTATION:
1A) Hannah Lee, 29, LHP, South Charlotte Condors (#25)
– In WBC 40 at 19, she was added to the roster to get the WBC experience, and was not used a ton. Made a spot start in qualifying for WBC 41, and tossed a shutout. Tossed another key shutout in the playoffs. Had a great WBC 42, and cannot be blamed for the Rockets premature exit in there. Moved to the top of the rotation of WBC 43, and was the starting pitcher for the Game 6 finale against Free Republics. Remained consistent in WBC 44. Geez, now she’s approaching 30, too. Time flies!

1B) Cassie Burke, 24, RHP, Dover City Mountaineers (#37)
– At just 19 years of age, Cassie made quite an impression with the small market Seminole Bay Gators, the coach Stevens continues with the theme of going with the hot hands from the most recent ENBL season. She’s a bit young to be given this role, not even Hannah Lee was handed a starting spot this young, but her 1.86 ERA and 246 K’s were very impression. Due to playing with Seminole Bay, the win-loss record is not as impressive, but she’ll be happy to get more run support now. Now in her third Classic, Burke has a lot more expected of her. Signed with Dover City this past off-season.

1C) Madison Sullivan, 25, LHP, South Tier Seagulls (#40) (First Time In Rotation)
– Was part of the WBC 44 roster out of the bullpen as a long reliever, but was seen as someone who would be strongly considered for a starting position. With Courtney Duvall and Jennifer Hughes no longer part of the rotation, there were holes to fill, and this hard thrower should do well. (Duvall, now 39, still plays with Loudon, but her game has declined with age. Hughes, now 35, is still with Jessicaville and performing well, but she declared she wanted to retire from the national team).

1D) Shannon Kelly, 32, RHP, Putnam Lake Eagles (#33)
– Made her debut in WBC 42 in the bullpen, and in WBC 43, she appeared in the starting rotation for the first time. She has had a steady career with the Eagles, and has been solid and consistent in the WBC. An important veteran influence in the rotation.

1E) Paige Norwood, 20, LHP, North Charlotte Wildcats (#46) (WBC Rookie)
– Had a strong rookie year with the Wildcats, impressing the coaching staff so much that she was made a part of this rotation. The timing was right for a player of her age to get this opportunity, and Paige was on the money in seizing the chance.

Bullpen:
Closer- Katrina Payne, 31, RHP, Dover City Mountaineers (#44) (First Time Closer at this level)
– Katrina first appeared on the roster in WBC 42 as a short reliever. She was upgraded to the set up role for WBC 44, and now with yet another age-related retirement, she is the official closer of this team. That’s fine, as she is the regular closer in Dover City, and has been.

Set-Up- Brittany Overton, 24, LHP, South Charlotte Condors (#30) (WBC Rookie)
– Overton stepped in to the closer role with Condors, and was impressive thanks in part of her fastball and splitter combination. She’ll mix in a tricky changeup to go along with that, too. As is usually the case on our roster, the set up reliever is a closer domestically. Brittany is a complete rookie to this level of play, but someone we hope can become a mainstay.

Michelle Tremont, 32, LHP, Centralia Cougars (#51)
– Tremont’s out pitch is a fastball, and it is only that way because of how she excels in setting it up with a wicked cutter and split-finger. She’s a mid-inning reliever, more then anything else.

Alyssa Wolcott, 27, RHP, Tundra Falls Mariners (#48)
– A middle reliever for the team that is a bit unusual for the roster because typically Stevens just uses transformed starters in these spots. Wolcott, however, is a middle reliever at home as well, and through an incredible work ethic, has been impressive to the point of inclusion on the roster.

Andrea Courville, 30, RHP, Jessicaville Millionaires (#49)
– Andrea is not flashy, and sometimes people will wonder how she does it. Her secret is pinpoint location, and the ability to be a step ahead of the batter in keeping them guessing. Her curveball and slider are nasty, plus she even mixes in the screwball from time to time. Her fastball isn’t really super fast, but it just seems that way after facing the breaking stuff. This is her first time on the team, and will likely be used in mid-inning situations. Debuted in WBC 41 as a part of the bullpen, and after showing great progress the last two years, got a chance to start in WBC 42, though now returns to the pen, where she remains.

Heather Doran, 26, LHP, Tundra Falls Mariners (#32) (WBC Rookie)
– First time member of the team will be used in short relief situations where a left hander would be particularly useful.

Morgan Timmerman, 27, RHP, Pocono City Capitals (#38) (WBC Rookie)
– Another first timer that is capable of pitching several innings if need be, but the preference will likely be to use her in short relief where a righty is useful.

STARTING LINEUP (Throws/Bats)
1) Kelsey Brandis- CF (R/S) (#7), 32, Nashua Broncos
- “Bates and Alcorn” came to and end in WBC 43 due to age, but Brandis and Sorenson have the same duel seed capability. Kelsey had been a part of the roster for several Classics, but only got regular starting duty in #44. . She has speed and can turn a walk into a three base walk, but also has enough power to hit 15 or so in a 162-game season. Does not hesitate to steal third as well, common for the most aggressive Newmanistanian runner.

2) Ashley Sorenson- LF (L/L) (#2), 23, Brighton Bulls
– As was the case before, we don’t just have one super speedster at the top of the lineup, we have two. Everything Brandis can do, Sorenson can do as well. Ashley handled her first tour of duty in #44 pretty well, and now looks to build on that success even more.

3) Sydney Hassler- 2B (R/S) (#3), 29, Tundra Falls Mariners (First Time Starter)
– While many thought Sydney could have 45-50 HR potential when she was younger, she has become a more conventional 2B in terms of those numbers, hitting around 25. She hits for a good average, and can run a little bit. She replaces Michelle Covington at this position, one of the several changes to our roster. She has been on the bench for several Classic previously.

4) Stephanie Reynolds- RF (R/S), 29, Pocono City Capitals (#14)
– Reynolds has impressed everyone at home with her power. As a rookie with Pocono City, she pounded out 49 long balls, while maintaining a BA of .318. She also has a great eye, and drew over 100 walks last season. Succeeded when moved up from 6th to 3rd in the last Classic, so being put in the #4 spot this year is an additional vote of confidence, but she can handle it.

5) Kenzie Magee- SS (R/S), 36, Centralia Cougars (#21) (First Time Starter)
– Kenzie is a long time member of this team, and has consistently served as our DH when we were on the road playing a team that required us to use it. With Kayla Carey also retiring from international play, Kenzie is looking to capitalize on what is probably her only chance to start in a Classic before she too, needs to retire from it.

6) Joanne Collins- 3B (L/S), 25, Putnam Lake Eagles (#16)
– Made her debut in WBC 44. The first thing many will notice is how well she fields her position. Hits for a solid average, with enough pop in the bat to make pitchers respect it. Moves up a spot in the lineup for this Classic.

7) Christine Hansen- 1B (R/R), 36, Olympia Gladiators (#19) (First Time Starter)
– Has a lot in common with Kenzie Magee, in that she is a long time member of this team, while riding the bench. With Mallory Harris one of our retirements as well from international play, Christine is looking to take advantage of what figures to be her lone chance to start in a Classic before she hangs them up at this level. Solid contact hitter, but good for 30 or so HR’s.

8) Brittany McDonald- C (R/R), 26, Loudon Leopards (#26)
– Made her debut in the last Classic under former head coach Ashley Stevens, but impressed Hedstrom enough to leave her in this spot. She is a steady hitter around .280, and has a great arm.

THE DERRING-DO GRITTY HUSTLERS

The Gritty Hustlers play the game the right way, have strong intangibles, show a lot of spirit out there, respect the game, always give 110% and strictly obey all the unwritten rules that make baseball what it is.

The national sport of Derring-Do is Test Baseball, in which 90-inning games are played by two teams of 40 players over the course of a week. There may be some struggles to adapt to what is seen by many Derring-Do fans as a lesser version of the game.

All home games are played at Erstad-Pedroia Stadium in Derring-Do's capital city of Pluck. The stadium seats 18,301 after a recent expansion.

The DH is #15 Honorable DESTRUCTO, in nations that don't respect the game as much as we do.

The DH bats ninth in protest, as mandated by legislation, and is expected to show a proper amount of shame about it. Anyone serving as a designated hitter is not allowed to sit within ten feet of anyone in the lineup, and is not allowed to take any gum or sunflower seeds from the tubs in the dugout. Other starters do not speak with him or make eye contact during the game, aside from a handful of legally mandated exceptions. History - This will be Cosumar's 30th World Baseball Classic! What an anniversary! Though the Dragons have a long history in this competition, they have never been particularly successful aside from one 2nd-place finish. Our WBC 36 ranking of 6th was our peak, but has decreased following some lackluster showings (currently 21st). WBC 42 & 43 were something of a rebound after having our playoff streak snapped in a terrible WBC 41, but we still suffered disappointing sweeps in the first round.

Primary Stadium - Orangi Field (Indoor, Capacity 55.000)

Sponsored by Cosumar's most popular carbonated beverage "Orangi Flavored Sodas", Orangi Field is an enormous indoor baseball complex in southwestern port city Crawford. In pleasant weather, the dome's roof will open, welcoming that beloved sunny-day baseball game feel. However, in the event of heat or precipitation, the roof can be closed as seen below. Orangi Field was constructed prior to Cosumar's WBC 18 campaign. It has been selected to once again serve as the Dragons' primary home field for the 44th World Baseball Classic. It is next-door to the similarly-named Orangi Stadium, a soccer stadium that houses Crawford City FC.

Secondary Stadium - Royal Park (Outdoor, Capacity 41.000)

Royal Park is a beautiful old-fashioned field that serves as the home field for our most famous domestic team, the Ramusok Royals. Although not as high-tech as Orangi Field, Royal Park is legendary because of its rich history. It is known as Royal Park not just because of the name of its tennant, but also because it is just right down the road from the King's Royal Palace in the capital's historic Omrade av Storslagenhet (OAS) district. King James II himself is often sighted here for games. From the natural green grass to the cheap food, 62-year-old Royal Park offers the classic ballgame experience. Decades of tradition and amazing moments of Cosumarite baseball. It will serve as an alternate to Orangi Field in case of emergency, and our FIRST home game is always played here out of tradition.

Uniform

The uniform of Cosumar Baseball, as is tradition, consists of a navy shirt with silver sleeves and pants. The hat is also navy, with a silver C in the center. The socks are silver with a blue stripe. The number will go in the top right corner of the front of the shirt and in the center on the back. The player's last name will be placed on the back, arched over the number.

Coaching Staff

Manager - Saturn Odain

It's no surprise that longtime Cosumar Baseball figurehead Louis Copenhaver was let go after the disappointments of WBCs 41/42. Filling the void, in his third tournament leading the stallions, is Saturn Odain. The former Ruminov Robbers managers has cut an iconic figure in the bullpen in the PBL for years with his 6"6 frame, potbelly and red beard. Though his Robbers teams have never won a title, he has been universally praised for coaching the small-market band of misfits into perennial moneyball contenders. He's known for being a "hard" manager because he demands the most out of his players, which could be a much-needed change, shattering the complacent & comfortable culture that had set in under Copenhaver and previous regimes. Odain, now 54, has shook up the roster in turn. Many perennial PBL all-star veterans who thought their place in the national team was still assured despite underachieving on the international stage have been cut in favor of younger and less-proven rising players for Odain to mold.

First Base Coach - Johnar Sunhold

Sunhold was a collegiate star at the University of Ankortroth and a former #1 draft pick. After a long and successful career as a slugger in the PBL (retiring at #4 all-time in home runs), he transitioned seamlessly into coaching. He started out as a batting coach for a few minor league teams but eventually worked his way up to a PBL managerial position five years ago. His success at the Goldstaff Golden Eagles landed him the honor of being the First Base Coach for the National Team starting in WBC 42. He's the energetic, youthful face of the coaching staff that relates best to the players and sorts out any locker room issues. 43 years old.

Third Base Coach - Joanie Sansom

Joanie Sansom was the first female coach in the history of Cosumar Baseball when she took up this post for WBC 39. Sansom, now 62, is a veteran of the PBL as both a player and coach. She has managed three PBL clubs in her career, winning one title, but is currently serving as the President and GM of her hometown team, the Crawford Cocodragons. She has taken this side appointment with the National Team as a way to reconnect with her coaching roots and get back on the field. She is known for her warm, people-person demeanor and slow, colorful drawl. But also for a sharp intellect hiding behind this charming facade.

Notes on the team
The infield is considerably weaker than the outfield. Both defensively and offensively, the infielders aren't as naturally gifted as the outfielders. This shows both in how easily they force outs after a weak hit and how they have more trouble getting on base. The outfield is faster, stronger, and more reliable.

Pitchers: Brands and Kumagaya might be saved up for a bigger game later on, they are the marquee starting pitchers on the team. Middle relief Hamasaki is back for his last trick, and Melle might not return to the national team after this either. Ko-orenite teams switch pitchers fairly often, it's not unusual to see 3-4 pitchers used consistently. Set-up men Hoga and Igarashi are not just limited to the 8th inning.

Catchers: both Kagulazaka and Berganza are exceptional players, walking encyclopedias when calling pitches and not prone to make mistakes.

The big stars at bat are Ritsushima, Shiro, and Umemura. The big stars in the bullpen are Sotolongo, Janagimoto, and Hoga.

World Baseball Classic 45 Roster

HEAD COACH: ‘El Profesor’ Edgar Abasto, 56, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

A spectacular second baseman and leadoff hitter for the Marineros in his playing days, ‘El Profesor’ has since coached his boyhood ball club to multiple national titles which has led to them being discussed as a true Castrollano baseball dynasty. Abasto is a deep thinker and can often be found poring through statistics in an attempt to find the perfect formula to win a game. Away from baseball, Abasto has a doctorate in psychology and this is where his nickname primarily comes from. Abasto masterminded Tierra de Castro's impressive progression out of the group stage in the nation's debut World Baseball Classic, they may have fallen at the first hurdle in the play-offs, but the Castrollano team certainly left an impression on every other country that competed.

STARTING ROTATION:
#02: ‘El Zorro’ Hector Chicote, 39, LHP, Marineros, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

Somewhat of a living legend within Castrollano baseball, still playing despite multiple injuries during his career and still plaguing hitters with problems. Chicote is a favourite of Abasto's from when ‘El Profesor’ coached the Marineros, where Chicote still plies his trade. Renowned for his crafty and cunning pitching (his nickname translates as 'the fox'), Chicote has a full arsenal and isn't afraid to use underhand tactics to gain an advantage. In domestic games he is known for chatting to batters between pitches and attempting to play mind-games with them. Those same tactics appeared to be relatively effective in his debut Classic last time around. In the four years since then he has taken his domestic team to two more National Championships and they finished runners-up in the finals series in the other two seasons. Chicote will be eager to prove himself once more in what will be his second and last ever World Baseball Classic.

#03: Alfredo Tejedor, 26, LHP, 26 de Julio, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

Tejedor was talked up as the next big thing to come out of Castrollano baseball before his debut Classic last time out and he impressed throughout the tournament. Since then he has continued his development, adding more diverse pitches to his arsenal, which still - of course - includes his trademark, his dizzying knuckleball. Tejedor remains at his boyhood ball club 26 de Julio, remaining loyal despite offers from the two biggest domestic sides (Industriales and Marineros), to move and play for them. He must be a masochist, as playing for 26 de Julio is notoriously difficult given the quality of players that aren't named Alfredo Tejedor.

#25: Orlando Tenorio, 22, RHP, Industriales, debut appearance

Tenorio burst onto the scene last season domestically, joining his hometown Industriales and immediately making an impression as he shutout Hormigas de Fuego in his debut game. He became an integral part of their pitching rotation and he will now join the national side - Edgar Abasto rates him highly enough that he has put him straight into the starting rotation, displacing ‘Snoopy’ Martinez and leapfrogging several of the bullpen pitchers from the last Classic that may have believed that they would have a surefire place in the starting rotation this time around. Tenorio is a real talent though and you shouldn't underestimate him because of his age, else his devious curveball will get you. The old adage stands: if you are good enough, you are old enough.

#04: Gustavo ‘Cheesy’ Quesada, 32, RHP, Tortugas, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

Quesada goes rather unappreciated domestically, his pitching always has the Tortugas in contention but whilst they dominate on defence they have a desperate lack of hitters and this has consistently hamstrung them in recent seasons. In the time since the last World Baseball Classic Quesada was able to get his team to the play-offs twice in four seasons and they came ever so close to progressing to the finals series last season, they were 3-1 against Industriales going into Game 5 with at least two bites at the cherry to get to the finals - unfortunately Industriales did what they do best and came back to win the series 4-3 and the opportunity was gone for Tortugas. Quesada is known for being able to switch extremely naturally between a fierce fastball and a devious changeup.

#06: Juan Zoido, 30, RHP, Hormigas de Fuego, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

Zoido is an eight year starter at home and he was perhaps a little unfortunate not to be named in the starting pitching rotation with the national team last time out. Zoido is an intelligent pitcher who works in tandem with his catcher to devise plans on every single hitter they face and this in-depth approach makes him one of the more successful pitchers domestically and has helped to endear him to the national team's similarly conscientious coach Edgar Abasto. Continued quality in the Castrollano domestic league has helped him grab a place in the starting rotation this time and Zoido is likely to grab it with both hands. His main pitches are his two-seam fastball and his cutter.

BULLPEN:
#01: Yoel ‘Snoopy’ Martinez, 29, RHP, Los Cubanos, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

‘Snoopy’ Martinez has made a career domestically out of pure speed. He doesn't have too much variation in his locker, but he will put batters under pressure and try to give them something to think about. Martinez has immense stamina and this made him a regular favourite of ‘El Profesor’ in the last Classic, but he perhaps doesn't have the variation necessary to be a part of the starting rotation and that was almost definitely in Abasto's thinking in naming the squad ahead of this Classic as he has named Martinez as a bullpen pitcher. ‘Snoopy’ will most often act as a long reliever.

#05: ‘El Ariete’ Gonzalo Tamayo, 34, RHP, Marineros, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

Tamayo's approach can be summed-up very nicely just by translating his nickname ('the battering ram'). He will find any way he can to get a batter out, often blurring the line between clever and dangerous pitching. Marineros' fans love him for his jovial personality, at home he is often the man that takes over from Chicote as a middle reliever or a closer, he will likely act more as the former with the national team.

#26: Alberto Céspedes, 22, RHP, Industriales, debut appearance

Industriales were lucky enough to not just have one but two young pitchers join the team ahead of last season domestically and many believe that the tandem of Alberto Céspedes and Orlando Tenorio could take Castrollano baseball's most successful team onward to even more glory. It was really a toss-up between the two as to which got the job in the starting rotation ahead of this Classic, with Tenorio shading it, but Céspedes could easily have been picked too. The pair are both in Industriales' starting rotation back home and it's easy to see why given their quality. Céspedes offers a different style to Tenorio, relying more on his fastballs and change-ups than his breaking balls, but he is just as adept and he will be a real challenge for opposition hitters when he comes out of the bullpen as a mid-reliever.

#07: Benjamin ‘Benji’ Arboleda, 26, LHP, Tocororos, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

Benji Arboleda was touted as a closer with immense potential at the last Classic and since then he has progressed to a level where people are starting to say he has reached his potential. He has a knack for pressure situations and looks almost ice cold when he's on the mound and assessing how best to get the next out. Arboleda will be the go-to closer in this Classic. Domestically, Tocororos fans took a while to warm to Arboleda as he grew up a fan of their hated rivals from across town the Urracas, but his performances have started to endear him to them slowly but surely.

#29: César de la Cavallería, 18, LHP, Estibadores, debut appearance

His name might be a bit of a mouthful, but his pitching is a bit of a handful for opposition hitters. De la Cavallería is the youngest player to ever be named as a part of the national team and has a rawness that could make him extremely useful in this Classic. He'll be used sparingly, after all he's only just graduated from high school and Edgar Abasto will be wary of overusing him so that this starlet doesn't burn out. He's played two seasons of baseball domestically despite the fact he's only 18, playing for the Estibadores over the summer when high schools across Tierra de Castro were shut for summer vacation. He's living the dream of millions of other Castrollano kids due to his exceptional pitching ability and his diverse repertoire will make him a weapon for years to come. Look for him to come in as a reliever against lesser nations during the group stage as a way of him gaining experience before potentially ascending to a spot in the starting rotation next Classic.

STARTING LINE-UP (bats/throws):
#09: Facundo Mina, 32, LF (L/L), Industriales, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

An excellent example of a contact hitter, Mina enjoys the task of getting on-base and is consistently a leader domestically in at-bats per strikeout. A speedy baserunner, he will also patiently attempt to steal bases. Plays in a strong Industriales side domestically, evidenced by their two National Championships in the last two seasons (they've now won 4 of the last 7!). He's an integral part of their team though, with his professional approach rubbing off on his team mates and this continued in the national team's debut Classic. Coach Abasto will be hoping for more of the same this time.

#10: ‘Cool Hand’ Lucas Leguizamo, 29, 2B (L/R), Avispones, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

Leguizamo is a patient hitter and is often able to walk due to his ability to read pitches well and leave those that are outside the strike zone. He is another contact hitter who is adept at moving the leadoff man into scoring position. Abasto prefers a lefty hitting second due to the potential advantage for them if a runner is on first (i.e. first baseman holding on the runner and second baseman playing double play depth), and Leguizamo is skilled in finding the 3-4 gap in the infield. Avispones managed to break into the play-offs twice in the last four seasons, but were unfortunately unable to progress beyond the Semi Finals due to the quality of both Industriales and Marineros (three of the four play-off spots are generally locked up by Tierra de Castro's three most famous teams: Industriales, Marineros and Los Cubanos; the other spot is fought over fiercely by teams that are having a good year - in the past four seasons those two teams have been Leguizamo's Avispones and the Tortugas).

#11: Adan Carita, 26, C (R/R), Marineros, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

Adan Carita was the breakout star for the Tierra de Castro team at their debut Classic, he was a regular home run hitter and his RBI was impressive. He became a hero back home with his world class performances and many a national team could be seen casting an envious eye over the young catcher wishing that they too could have a player at the position that could hit like Adan Carita can. He's a slugger, there is no other way of saying it. Abasto will be hoping that Mina and Leguizamo can do their job and get on base and that Carita can do what he is well-known for and hit a big one to bat them in. He is only small in stature (5'6), but he is a hefty man and packs some power into his hitting. He is catcher for the Marineros domestically and this means he has experience working with Chicote (and Tamayo from the bullpen), something which could prove invaluable. Generally quiet off the field, preferring to help out at his family's restaurant than involve himself in any of the partying many other baseball stars take part in, on the diamond he is a different proposition altogether and a notoriously fiery character.

#19: Juan Esteban Capmany, 25, 3B (S/R), Marineros, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

Capmany was the team's designated hitter at the last Classic and that demonstrates what sort of player he is, a real power hitter. He has replaced Eustacio Lain in the clean-up hitter spot at fourth in the batting line-up and there will be a degree of pressure on the third baseman to live-up to his predecessor's level. Capmany has regularly been the leading home run scorer over the past few seasons, finishing top in that statistic in 3 of the last 5 years. He's a childhood friend of Adan Carita and the pair play together for their boyhood club at the Marineros and will often be seen sharing a laugh and a joke in the dugout together. Where Carita is quiet off the field, Capmany lives an extroverted lifestyle (or as out there as can be in a communist state, although baseball stars are given some leeway...), and is a good interviewee with his always forthright views.

#20: Isaias Tejeda, 27, SS, (S/L), Los Cubanos, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

Tejeda is a spectacular athlete, blessed with speed and exceptional fitness. He was employed regularly as a pinch runner last time around, but he's worked incredibly hard on his hitting since then and he is now a really rounded player. He was touted as a player with great potential it's rumoured Edgar Abasto worked with him in the intervening years to get his hitting up to the same standard as his fielding and baserunning and he can now be considered a true all-star (something he has been in 3 of the past 4 seasons domestically). He is now a solid hitter, able to hit for power with a degree of regularity and he still retains his aggressive baserunning instincts - he's led the league for stolen bases twice in his career domestically. Tejeda is arguably the best all-rounder on the team.

#14: ‘Pint Size’ Emilio Pinto, 27, 1B (L/L), Marineros, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

Pinto is short and skinny but has a knack for contact hitting and that makes him useful at sixth in the batting order. He is a true speedster, though and that is more perhaps the reasoning by having him here. A decent hit can lead to him gaining a little more ground than expected, due to his pace and his daredevil nature. He's a three time National Champion domestically, following his controversial move to the Marineros from his old team Lobos a few years ago - a move which was greeted with fury in some parts of Castrollano baseball, with many feeling that it was a distinctly anti-socialist move and a case of the 'rich' (i.e. Marineros), getting richer. There were even protests outside government buildings in La Habana! Pinto didn't seem to mind too much though, winning two more National Championship pennants in the first two seasons after his move to go with the one he won with Lobos!

#23: Diego Espina, 28, RF (S/L), Marineros, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

A switch hitter who has plenty of power in his locker, Espina has been promoted to the starting line-up for this Classic after being on the bench last time, he's replacing the now retired Diego Secada who was unfortunate with injuries in the latter stages of his career. Espina will fulfil a role as a power hitter late in the hitting order. He plays right fielder for Marineros and possesses a rocket arm and plenty of ability when at-bat. He's evidence of why they are one of the dominant forces in Castrollano baseball right now and why they will be dominant for years to come given the fact he's still only 28 and he seems to have been around forever!

#22: ‘JPP’ Juan Pablo Pareja, 29, CF, (L/L), Industriales, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

Pareja is a good contact hitter and baserunner. He's another that has been promoted to the starting line-up this time around given some solid performances last time out and Christopher Gonzalez's ageing legs meaning that he isn't as effective in the field as Pareja now is. A lover of stealing bases, he may be employed occasionally as a pinch runner if Abasto is feeling particularly speculative, his speed is evident but he can often risk a little too much when attempting to steal.

Pitcher or Designated Hitter, if DH: Christopher Gonzalez

BENCH (bats/throws):
#17: Jesus Carballo, 34, 1B (L/R), Urracas, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

Carballo is an experienced first baseman with Urracas, a reasonable power hitter who would likely start somewhere around 4th or 5th if it wasn't for the presence of the big hitters already there and starting first baseman Pinto's exceptional baserunning ability.

#18: Lorenzo Marti, 28, 2B (R/R), Hormigas de Fuego, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

A team mate of pitcher Juan Zoido domestically, Marti is a skilled second baseman, defence is coached relentlessly in Tierra de Castro until it is like clockwork and Marti is an example of this. Abasto's preference for a lefty batting second perhaps means he doesn't start ahead of Leguizamo as Marti is also a reasonable contact hitter.

#15: Aaron Munoz, 32, 3B (R/R), Macacos, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

His hitting is rather hit-and-miss, if you would pardon the pun. Not always the best at reading a pitcher and can often pay for this, but if he does hit the ball it will go a long way as he is a powerful guy and this is where the danger lies for opposing pitchers - underestimate Munoz at your peril. A solid defensive player and baserunner, slightly unfortunate to have been dropped to a place on the bench, but Juan Esteban Capmany is just that level better than Munoz.

#27: Jerónimo Illescas, 20, SS (R/R), Industriales, debut appearance

The youngster burst onto the scene with Industriales last season and could become a real star in Castrollano baseball. He's an excellent defensive player, with his instincts and his arm both being of the highest calibre. He's also a real danger at the plate, too, with his hitting talent being raw but he clearly has a lot of potential. He's a powerful hitter, but his plate intelligence perhaps isn't quite top level quite yet. Illescas can only get better though, given his youth and can learn from Tejeda ahead of him. He plays for Industriales, so he knows what pressure is like, so don't be too surprised if he starts to fulfil his potential extremely quickly.

#21: Mateo Lopez, 29, LF (R/R), Los Cubanos, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

A solid leadoff hitter, Lopez will often substitute in like-for-like with Facundo Mina. A strong arm and outstanding 'baseball intelligence' (something Coach Abasto loves), complete the picture with Lopez, who is fairly content with his place on the bench and is never a player that complains about his lack of on-field time with the national team and is a good voice in the locker room for this team.

#13: Christopher ‘Big Chris’ Gonzalez, 36, CF (R/R), Estibadores, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

‘Big Chris’ is a good descriptor, he stands at 6'5 and he utilises his long levers to hit with plenty of venom. Gonzalez was a useful hitter in the heart of the order last time out, providing an exclamation point to Carita and Lain that came before him. This time around he will act as the team's designated hitter, so the exclamation point will come at the end of the line-up instead. The reasoning behind this is purely down to Gonzalez's age, he doesn't quite move like he used to and whilst he's still a useful defensive player with an exceptional arm it is the lack of legs that mean Pareja has overtaken him in the national team pecking order. He remains one of El Profesor's 'generals' in the locker room and he will be an important figure in any success this team has.

#28: Santi Cazalla, 22, RF (R/R), Industriales, debut appearance

A reasonable leadoff hitter who has a bit of work to do to get to the standard of those above him in the pecking order, but Abasto has clearly seen something in the youngster that he believes can make him an important part of the national team. Cazalla was perhaps a little bit of a surprise inclusion, with some feeling there were more deserving options from other teams (teams perhaps considered less fashionable than Industriales...). This is perhaps a little unfair on Cazalla though, he is a bit of a pest for opposition pitchers, having a knack of extending his at-bat for a long time and this can make him useful - increasing the opposition pitcher's pitch count if nothing else! He's as good as any other Castrollano in the field, with that being a part of the game that is relentlessly drilled into kids from an early age, especially for those that attend the FCB's elite youth training programmes where the country's most promising young baseball talent is nurtured from little league right up until college.

#24: ‘Saint’ Valentin Aparicio, 30, C (R/R), Industriales, second appearance (WBC 44, 45)

Abasto must be thankful that in Carita the national team have a catcher that can hit - and very, very well at that. Aparicio, whilst an excellent catcher, is not blessed with any particular ability when batting and that is why the younger man starts ahead of him. Aparicio is a slow baserunner too and is regularly substituted for a pinch runner domestically with Industriales. This means that Aparicio will only really be employed as a starter if Carita suffers an unfortunate injury or suspension.

HOME STADIUM: Centro Nacional de Béisbol (capacity: 38,000)

Both the ancestral home of Castrollano baseball and the future, the national stadium is a modern construction paid for by the government as a centrepiece of the country's sports programme (alongside a modern athletics stadium, football stadium and boxing arena), all shiny steel and glass it is an exceptional modern facility and one that will be used for years to come. The ethics of it being built are of course not in question at all and although the money spent on its construction could perhaps have been better spent in other ways, Castrollanos love their baseball and therefore this stadium is the jewel in the FCB's (and the government's) proverbial crown. Alongside the stadium are training facilities for the national team and all the age-group teams down to the little-league squads, with government funding of the FCB youth training programme increasing almost tenfold with the decision to finally send a team to the World Baseball Classic as they hope to prove the superiority of socialist sporting prowess above all else on the global stage.

NOTES:

Tierra de Castro is a communist state with a Caribbean climate and the government are determined to demonstrate the superiority of their chosen political system through sport, thus large swathes of government funds are funnelled towards baseball along with a few other sports (athletics and boxing mainly, with the proficiency of the Castrollano boxing being particularly worthy of praise).

The quality of life for citizens in Tierra de Castro is relatively good, but the majority of society will have very little in the way of disposable cash and some places will look a little rundown, although they will always be spotlessly clean at least. Public services are very good, healthcare and transport particularly. Tourism is the biggest industry for Tierra de Castro, with rich tourists from comparatively more prosperous nations spending their money vacationing on the sandy beaches that can be accessed straight from the government-run hotels right next to them. Castrollano cigars are exceptional and are regularly sold to tourists for an extremely high mark-up.

Sociolismo is rife, with friends often providing each other with certain black market goods that can be difficult to find, swapping one for another and saying little else about it. The home stadium of the Greater Nordics is King Lauritz II stadium. It is a classic style ballpark outside of Copenhagen. It seats 38,000.

My players are aggressive at the plate and on the basepaths. They may be caught stealing because of it but they also steal a lot of bases. They like to swing for the fences on every pitch so they strike out more than most teams but they can also score a lot of runs off of homers. The Greater Nordics Baseball Association had to pick a new manager this year after Ernst Roy decided to retire from the national team and coach the Copenhagen Wolves in the National Baseball League.Leif Holt is a good manager and he should continue the progress that this nation has made in the World Baseball Classic.

Instant Success Loans Field at Krazinsky Park - Dominica City, Xannerian Capital Territory (Xanneria vs Bauscland ) A noted stadium in the capital of Xanneria, Krazinsky field has been home of the Dominica City Breakers since 1952. Although the Breakers haven't had much on the field success lately they did when a title in 2013. Stadium capicity is 45,000 and the (controversial) Stadium sponsor is Instant Success Loans. Dominica City is the capital and one of two major cities in the province known as "Xannerian Capital Territory". You can see a lot of history here, several old commondantian mansion dot the landscape and it's also home to several hiking trails.

L. Andy Dodge Stadium - Hawthorne, Denali (Xanneria vs Holy Marsh) Home of the defending X-League champions, L. Andy Dodge Stadium is one of the oldest and finest venues on the West coast of Xanneria. This is where our Starting pitcher, Ryan Bradley made his name, pitching to an amazing 58-10 record with a 2.25 ERA over the last 3 seasons for the Hawthorne Meteors. This payed off with a Series X win over the Pearlham Reds 4-2 in 2028. Hawthorne is also the center of the Xannerian TV & Film industry. Capacity of this stadium is 38,250

ShorTrack Stores Diamond - Palace City, Gould (Xanneria vs Vangazaland) One of the newest and smallest stadiums in X-League, ShorTrack Stores Diamond is located in Palace City and is home to one of the newest teams in X-League, the Palace City Red Tide. It's unique in the fact that controversially it's one of the few stadiums that gave up full naming rights to a company. (In the case here, ShorTrack convenience stores). Also be careful when playing here Vangazaland, What happens in Palace City, stays in Palace City. (Seriously legalized gambling and prostitution exist here)

Buckner Memorial Field - Pearlham, Hastings (Xanneria vs Ethane) With Ethane being the best team in this group its only natural we would play them in our best stadium. Buckner Memorial is home to one of the most famous teams from Xanneria, the Pearlham Reds. The Reds have been the hot team as of late winning 2026,and 2027 Series X championships. Ethane will be visited by the Big Green Wall, a noted large wall on the left field area of the stadium used to protect the streets behind the stadium from dingers.

MD1 vs. Lisander: Syangboche Athletic Complex
Capacity 43,800, located in Namche, Capital District, at an elevation of 3780m (12,402ft) this is one of the most extreme hitter's parks in the world because of the high altitude and the short left field. It occasionally has absolutely terrible weather such as snow or high winds. There is a nice museum under the stadium. Altitude sickness is sometimes an issue, and stadium security keeps a stockpile of oxygen tanks, just in case.

MD3 vs. Derring-Do: Jinnah Stadium
Capacity 48,200, located in Islamabad Municipal District. This is a heavily Islamic part of the Empire, and as such the schedule for this game will include a break for afternoon prayers. Last year, there was a lot of upheaval in this region and security was very tight. This year, the situation has calmed down.

MD7 vs. Vaeruio: Chokpori Stadium
Capacity 29,000, located in Lhasa, Tibet, at around the same elevation as Syangboche, which means it also has the same issues with altitude sickness. It has a larger outfield, but the high altitude still works to hitters' advantage. The architecture is very pretty with gold tile roofs.

MD10 vs. West Phoenicia and MD11 vs. Lisander: Eden Gardens
Capacity 66,000, located in Kolkata, Bengal Province. This is the largest ballpark in the Sherpa Empire and the oldest still in use. It was originally built in 1864, but has been expanded and renovated many times. There is a museum documenting the history of the park as both a baseball and cricket stadium. The field has a lot of foul territory, giving fielders plenty of room to chase down foul balls.

MD13 vs. Derring-Do: Chengdu Sports Centre
Capacity 42,000, located in Chengdu, Sichuan Territory. This stadium doesn't have terribly unique architecture, but it does have colorful Chinese opera skits during the 7th inning stretch.

MD17 vs. Vaeruio: Feroz Shah Kotla Ground
Capacity 41,820, located in Delhi Municipal District. Built in 1883, this park has a long history hosting both cricket and baseball games. Some of that history is not particularly glamorous, as the previous owners of the Delhi Rajas were Hindu fundamentalists and advocates of caste-based eugenics. However, the current owners have done a lot to clean up the team's image. Tickets to this game will definitely sell out quickly because Delhi is a huge city and this is the first WBC game it has ever hosted.

MD20 vs. West Phoenicia and MD21 vs. Lisander: Mandarin Park
Capacity 61,443, located in Nanjing, Jiangsu Territory. This park has a large outfield and does not get many home runs. It is known for having some of the best food of any ballpark in the Empire, with both typical ballpark fare like burgers and hotdogs and regional specialties like Chinese dumplings.

Capacity 27,322, located in Guilin, Guangxi Territory. A cozy ballpark in one of the Empire's most scenic cities. The outfield has elegant stonework and a view of the surrounding mountains.

About the Sherpa Empire

The Sherpa Empire sprawls across a large swath of both South Asia and East Asia, from Kabul in the West to the mouth of the Yangtze in the East. Although it is ruled by Sherpas (hence the name), the Empire is home to hundreds of different ethnic groups. Sherpa is the official language, but it is also common to hear other Asian languages. However, very few people speak any non-Asian languages and there are almost no signs in any language that uses the Latin alphabet. Due to a couple of nasty car crashes involving tourists who were distracted by trying to find their exit when they could not read the signs on the highway, anyone that wishes to drive in the Sherpa Empire must now pass a literacy test proving that they have the ability to read street signs in Chinese, Arabic, or Sherpa. (The Sherpa version of the test is available in the Tibetan alphabet or devangari, and is easy enough that native speakers of Hindi, Nepali, Tibetan, etc. can usually pass. You don't have to be at all fluent.)

Sherpa rupees are an inflated currency, so it's common to see big scary numbers on price tags, but most things turn out to be cheap once you do the math to convert the price. However, it is still possible to get ripped off in touristy areas where unscrupulous merchants may try to take advantage of mathematically-challenged visitors. The exchange rate is ₹114 = $1NSD.

The Sherpa Empire is not a violent place, but there is a fair bit of non-violent crime. It is very easy to have your wallet stolen if you aren't careful where you put it down. There is an enormous black market selling everything from hashish to human organs. If you get caught buying or selling illegal products or services, being a foreign national will not protect you from being jailed or executed.

Magic and supernatural creatures exist, but they are somewhat uncommon. You are unlikely to see anything unnatural if you just stroll down a typical city street. If you want to buy any sort of magical talismans, they are very expensive and there are only a few places that you can buy them.

CHANGEOVER ALL AROUND

Can a championship caliber World Baseball Classic team replace over half of their roster (or have people in new roles) and still be expected to be championship caliber. Or would that team be considered vulnerable, and have the alibi for a possible subpar tournament on the new faces in the lineup. We will find out during World Baseball Classic 45 with our beloved Rockets. We know who everyone on this team is, but the rest of the world does not. It was just two Classics ago when we won World Baseball Classic 43 in Cassadaigua. The tournament returns to the Matriarchy, but there is not much else in common for us, on paper. One thing is guaranteed, and that is that we will fare better then Super-Llamaland. That nation currently does not exist, and it is a shame.

The question now becomes, who are the top contenders in World Baseball Classic 45 if the Rockets have a down Classic. There are two easy answers: Cassadaigua and West Phoenicia. The three-time champions will have home field advantage, and the Confederates, as the defending champions, cannot be overlooked. Then you have Schiltzberg, Nova Anglicana, and familiar names like that. Will fans of the Free Republics know this is going on with all of the other excitement going on there? Nations like Ethane, Scootalove City, and Abanhfleft have a good chance to sneak a title away in this one. Or maybe the door will be open for a nation like Hampton Island, that has gradually climbed in the ranks. Or Ko-oren, Alpine Union (as long as they don’t meet the Rockets in the playoffs), The Sherpa Empire or Liventia? Is the time right for a nation like Tierra de Castro, of whom made an impressive debut in the Classic we just hosted. First time nations in this classic can make an impact. Where, though, are the Rockets fitting in?

The changes start right at the top as manager Ashley Stevens, only the second manager in the history of our team retired from baseball, completely. This left Southport’s Jessica Hedstrom to take over. Certainly a great choice, but the pressure is there. Courtney Duvall and Jennifer Hughes have moved on, each citing their past accomplishments and desire to go out on the terms that they were able to in the last two Classics: a championship, then the chance to play at home. Mallory Harris, Kayla Carey, and Michelle Covington, key cogs of our offense. They earned it, and no one is criticizing their decision. They are all in their mid to upper 30's and while they are not all retired from the ENBL, they have moved on from this level. Other members of our team, not quite as well as known, but important components, especially in the bullpen have also moved on. The offensive lineup will have two players: Kenzie Magee and Christine Hansen, each 36 years of age, and having been bench players for our two post-return titles, taking advantage of their chance to start, in what will probably be their only chance to do so.

Expect Hannah Lee, who made her first appearance with the team in the 40th edition to become the leader of this team. It has been said that the new ace of the staff was being groomed to move into that role, and now, here she is. Hannah is still only 29, so she is really just in the prime of her career right now. Cassie Burke is back, and the 24 year old will be moved up in the rotation, but it’s her time to flourish as well. Power pitcher Madison Sullivan, who made her debut in the bullpen last Classic takes the #1C spot, and is someone to watch. Veteran Shannon Kelly remains at the back end of the rotation, with 20-year old Paige Norwood, out of North Charlotte hoping to be our next young superstar. The bullpen has three new faces, as well as a first time closer.

No one will call the Rockets an underdog in the World Baseball Classic. But this one feels a little different. The group draw does not appear to be even the slightest problem. We have to deal with Drawkland, but this isn’t football or basketball. The Greater Nordics can give them a run for second, but shouldn’t be a major threat to us. Newcomers Evaropi and Cheergirls are kind of unknown. Evaropi is, completely. We know of Cheergirls, always an interesting group of girls, but not going to be winning the group.

In the dusty halls of Catenham State University, Baseball Beepee Captain, Bruce Labare, sat down with Vonda Race of the Beepeean Occasional News Corporation for a televised interview broadcast as a special event across Beepeean Television Screens.

'Being drawn in the same group as the host nation is always difficult', Bruce continued. 'Cassadaigua must be the favourites to win the whole competition. South Covello are a strong and capable team and we don't have a good record against unranked nations.'

'But Beepee are ranked 24th in the world, it's technically our best national team, Vonda retorted.

'But we're too friendly. We want every team to play their best and enjoy themselves. I mean,' Bruce hesitated, 'our fans cheer on our opponents, no other nations fans do that.'

'That's part of our culture, are you saying we should throw aside our history for the sake of a potential win'.

Bruce became flushed as he could sense this interview was not going well. 'No. No. I'm just saying maybe our fans can just cheer louder for us than for our opponents'.

Another box flashed on the screen for those at home

Vonda put her clipboard down on her lap. 'Let's talk about Homer Unn, the manager. He's a buffoon isn't he?'

'No, he's a very goo....'

'Well, he did okay in the first couple of tournaments, that's right.. But he's an embarrassment!'

'I don't th...'

'Surely there's someone more appropriate to lead the team?'

'I'm not...' stammered Bruce trying to interject.

'The last tournament was a farce. Discussions about his dogs. Embarrassing! He's had affairs, promoted human sacrifice, discussed his mothers south pacific cruise!' Vonda paused.'Nothing to say! Well there you have it good Beepeeps. This is Vonda Race for BONC, have a great evening'

The staffer waiting a few seconds before shouting 'clear', and the crew began packing up.

Vonda looked at Bruce, who was visibly shaken. 'Good chat', she smiled.

Bruce sat for a few moments contemplating the interview. 'Yeah', he mindlessly said as the technicians removed his mic, but Vonda had already left.

Hampton Island Golden Bears

In regards to Midnight, who is an actual black bear: he is ok with being referenced as a Golden Bear for the competition. No one knows how he became so good at baseball. Will get along with teammates and opponents as long as he is well fed before the game. The team was looking to liven things up after making the playoffs for the first time in World Baseball Classic 43, before losing in the first round. He performed well during WBC 44.

The West Phoenician Confederates are back for World Baseball Classic #45. After winning the World Baseball Classic #44 against Nova Anglicana four games to one. They are back to show the international baseball community that they are not a one trick pony.

Membership has soared, and the West Phoenician National Baseball League and the Empire Baseball League has also seen an upwards trend in membership and ticket sales.
The first season of the Empire League was deemed a success. West Phoenicia Greycoats vs
Kingdom of Debney Bay Fins played in the finals with West Phoenicia Greycoats winning 3 to 5 of the games. Each of the countires of the Empire have resigned there teams for a contract period of five years, if still as popular increased contracts will be assigned.

Cleopatra-Olympias Nèo Theà (New Goddess) and Philadèmos (Adored by the people) has confirmed that she will be back in full support of the Confederates. A new royal box has been designed at Emperor Glenton Gryphon-Bush II stadium to accomodate the needs of the Empress and her guests.

There has also been changes to the line up with some of the old guard retiring and a new generation signing on. Will this affect how they play this season? Another major change is former Head Coach Jacob Prosper has been promoted to Manager by the West Phoenician Baseball Federation. After showing great leadership skills during the last few seasons, pushing his team to the extreme and extra training during the off-season, he was able to push The Confederates to new heights. Because of this he was the hands down best choice for Manager to replace Trevor Rushworth who retired. Jacob Prosper has signed a three year contract to manage the Confederates.

Head Coach of the Confederates for this season will be Julian Pancretè. Pancretè was first a coach for the New Tudor Royals before coaching the West Phoenicia Grey Coats to build themselves up and win the first season of the Empire Baseball League.

Mr Pancretès coaching style is very similar to that of Jacob Prosper, a big factor that got him the job. With pulling off an amazing win in the previous season, Mr Prosper is not wanting to change alot, believing the team is at the right level now to make big impacts in the international competition.

The Spokane team arrived lately in style. They looked apologetically at the organizers as the captain strode out of the crowd and spoke “I am very sorry that we are late. A terrorist attack in our nation delayed us.” Jarred stood behind,lacing up his cleats as he asked “We can play right?”
Another man spoke “For our nation, in memory of the 1/8 victims. 2 of them had tickets to watch us play. They thought we’d win.” They stood like soldiers fighting for their country.
