I mean... Why would they do this? What do Republican Senators get by overriding their own President to pass a bill?

The government restarted, for one.

What you would you do if a democrat you elected to représente you in congress in your district voted against abortion or gay rights? You’d be obviously pissed. Pissed enough to vote them out of office. Which is why the republicans aren’t going to go against their base because then the republicans wouldn’t exist.

Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, is claiming that President Trump leaked news of her traveling to Afghanistan before he stopped her from using a military jet for the trip. I don't believe it, because if it was leaked then the President wouldn't have stopped her.

You don't even need to thread this far in America to find somebody celebrating the shutdown..

The right-libertarians are already doing the Fortnite default dance about it.

Lol no, you don’t get to add to the problem and then claim innocence. Dems don’t want to end their petty pissing contest with the man so they accept part of the blame. Man the fuck up and take responsibility.

They are. The responsible adult response to a kid throwing a fit in the toy aisle is to say no and confirm this is not the way you ask for things.

It is most certainly how things worked, that’s politics. Never interrupt your opponent when he’s about to make a mistake.

That’s exactly what’s happening. Letting him make this mistake.[/quote]

Can, literally nobody is going out rioting on the streets and no one is dying from hunger or food poisoning as a result of the government shutdown. Is the shutdown bad? Yes, but it’s not the end of the world. It mostly affects the federal workers who I can really care less about considering that a many of them are non essential and are under worked but overpaid. And shutdowns have never had a significant impact on the economy and any minor impact that it would have is expected to revert back to normal after the shutdown is over.

Others like who? Businesses really do not have to rely on federal workers. Land lords for example won’t suffer, as they can just find other tenants that will pay rent. In fact it is private businesses like Whole Foods that are volunteering their time and resources to help make sure that federal workers are fed. And as for the FDA? Private companies would’ve just continued to go much further than government regulations on food inspection like they always have, and FDA workers have returned to work again anyways. As for farms not being able to produce goods? That’s a lie. Most farms don’t get subsidies anyways and yet there is no food shortage going on. And even if the TSA continues not to work, private contractors will just pick up on where they left and do a better job, so calm the fuck down.

I’d really wish we’d put just as much energy worrying about our national debt.

A responsible adult doesn’t let 50 dollars burn away just so their kid doesn’t get a two dollar toy.
What would things have been like if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive? Or if during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? The Organs would quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!

Again, I was only calling bs to Hope’s claim that building the wall is racist, the wall was meant to secure our borders but I never made the argument that it would be effective. I’m against the wall.

"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.
