Not to mention the shutdown started before the Democrats officially took the House on January 3rd. The Repiblicans couldn't even get a majority of Republicans on board with the wall, let alone the Democrats.

Tho frame this as Democrats vs. Republicans is disingenuous. It started under a Republican controlled Congress, and they easily could have gone through reconcilliation and passed with a simple majority.

Hell, you don't even need to go through reconcilliation. A bidget resolution can be passed in either the House or Senate with a simple majority.

Because Trump said it is.

Suppose tomorrow Trump would say the wall is complete, that the Mexicans paid for it and that it is 100 percent effective and that the shutdown can end - would that not be the perfect solution?

It is simply alternative facts.

Well, NASA Ames is apparently going to be protesting the shutdown today from what I've heard. I hope the voices of my fellow professional nerds make an impact.

We've tried that before. What works? Getting the Taliban to do it because they're more willing to use force and appeal to religious sentiments, which work better.

Maybe he can't get one of Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Anne Coulter on board. If those 4 told people that liquids were toxic, Trump supporters would hide from rain.

Afaik, that's what happened this time. He couldn't get enough senators to fund it for 2 years but didn't care. Then dems win the house and Fox news started panicking and looked like turning on him which panicked him into this.

Somewhat more to the point, the Dems gave him the funding for his wall. The price for this was expanding DACA. Donald agreed to this.

Then Fox criticised Donald for daring to compromise. In politics. And since being criticised by Fox News is, like, the worst possible thing that could ever happen to a man, Donald promptly dropped the deal and demanded everything in exchange for nothing.

Cue the present.

He could have had his wall. He could have had his triumph, his single most central promise, the foundation of his very campaign. He could've started building it right now, and his supporters could've raised their hands and praised their lord and saviour.

But Fox News criticised him, and so he promptly passed on the above in favour of a government shutdown.

^ ..reading what guys write, it would, quite seem, perhaps my hipothesis, as Trump has done all that his main sponsors wish (abolish taxes and send them to common man's public debt).

so that, the lack of fitness made Trump forget to keep the other shoe for himself, so not to give all the pair of shoes gift away before re-election.lords dont care now, they let him sink.

We're heading for a civil war. This is the kinda stuff that leads to civil wars: when a country's political factions can't agree on something. The first American Civil War started because the North and South wouldn't cooperate because they disagreed on slavery. Here, Democrats and Republicans disagree on border enforcement. This civil war won't be geographic; it'll be ideological with leftist and rightist extremists attacking each other in various ways. Heck, I think we already kind of are heading that direction; we're in a "Cold Civil War".

Political violence in modern America is basically just a low intensity far-right terrorism campaign.

So it seems like one of the reasons McConnell doesn't want to defy Trump is because they're worried about their own reelection in 2020.

Some of it's left wing. AFAIK Antifa and company do it more, but the Far Right seems to have a higher casualty count with fewer incidents. Maybe they're better at it? Maybe they're more determined? I dunno.

Edit: Actually, turns out the Right does it more. Though, there's a lot of ideologies you could class as "Right-wing extremism" or "far-right": Right-libertarian/anti-government extremists such as the Sovereign Citizens are often lumped in with what one usually thinks of when one thinks of "right wing extremist" or "far-right".

Needless fear-mongering. There isn't going to be a Second American Civil War now. Ordinary Americans aren't willing to kill each other because of ideology right now, thankfully.

For a civil war, you need much more than just political violence, which, let's be real - isn't really that high in the USA.
