Question about glitched/deleted nations

So, during the recent game outage, a lot of nations were created and then deleted. Some of the names are reusable, some are not. Nations who show up as '0nation' are able to be used, nations who have a monument are not because they are marked as disgraced. There doesn't seem to be a pattern.

Questions: Is there any pattern of which nations are marked as disgraced, and which nations were apparently wiped from the database entirely? Would it be possible to wipe the disgraced-nations too, since otherwise that's like 100+ nation names that die immediately because of what seems to be complete randomness?

No clue what happened there; seems like a highly unusual event at the very least. Note also that the boneyard lists the nations without a leading "0" to have been founded in antiquity and deleted/disgraced with a population of 1 million, as can be seen here and here, with the exception of Placeholder Xaojie.

Edit: while these do not provide a complete explanation of what all happened, this thread and this thread are related and offer relevant information; I'm thinking a merge of this thread with one of those may be in order.

The founding date for the deleted nations was 49 years ago. I'm guessing that would be 1 Jan 1970, which I believe is the starting date used by computers. That is long before we started keeping track of founding dates, so it interprets that as 'Antiquity'.

All of their stats were set to default, which for the most part meant zero. Interesting that it mean one for population.

Yes, but in both cases it comes down to "This nation was half-created during the database outage and was left in an unusable state."

It's not possible without creating other inconsistencies.

Yes, but in both cases it comes down to "This nation was half-created during the database outage and was left in an unusable state."

Nothing about the back end is that simple. The game was originally based on a flat file game system, and now is a kluged mess of flat files, database entries, and linked-but-not-associated forum accounts.

Had the game been entirely database-enabled from day one, your statement might have been accurate. It wasn't, and it therefore isn't.

Even in a single database system, a user will be referenced by many different tables, and there will be problems if they only exist in some of them. But yes, the chances of this kind of corruption are much higher when info is spread across three different systems.
