I hope plants don't actually know when they're being eaten. I can't eat them then.
It’s cycle of life and unfortunately compassion can only go so far. The best ethical decision is to limit the suffering of the animal when it comes to meat or just accept that plants are alive but with less feelings than animals. You have to consume living things. If I go out into the African wilderness and some hungry cheetah catches me and rips me apart I’m not gonna be mad at the cheetah for outrunning me, outfighting me, and then eating me. That’s just nature. It is gonna suck but then you stop feeling pain and suddenly it stops sucking.
Veganism is about ignoring that people have always been eating animal products and will probably continue doing that. We just don't want to be a part of harming animals. That would also include plants, if being eaten harms them too.
