Again, I consider it to be an unnecessary aspect of Islam (i.e. everything has to be Arabic somehow).

Like I said, Catholics don't go around speaking Latin, they speak in their native tongue (and that includes the religious texts, which have been translated into God knows how many languages).

Because sometimes the essence of words become lost in translation. This is especially the case in most Semitic languages which have words and/or wordplay which may loose its meaning when translated. I think staying close to the ''source language'', or original language as you will, is very important especially for religions. It's also why Arabic is considered a subject of theology in the classical Islamic educational curriculum.

That's why the Roman Catholic Church kept its mass in Latin until the Second Vatican Council. And they still do in Tridentine mass.

But even latin mass only Catholics don't walk around throwing random chunks of latin at people.

Yeah, we both know this is not true.

You have spoken in Arabic as a response to English people or news articles.

Eh depends on your jurisdiction and if your bishop allows it. It is making a comeback, or at least some Latin is returning to the Mass but besides that yes you are right it is pretty much dead.

The only Catholic I have ever seen speaking Latin is the Pope, and I am pretty sure that most of the lil' ones in Saint Peter's Square don't understand much of it.

I still think Latin is an important language for the clergy to learn though so that clergymen from all over the world have a language they all understand. Also Latin makes it much more doable to minimize conflict in parish when they get separated into an English Mass at one time and a Spanish Mass at another. Granted I'm an Anglican now and not a Roman Catholic but I can see the logic of using Latin in a situation like that.

On the topic of language what is everyone's opinion on constructed languages and their uses in a political context, good, bad, the road to complete government control over how people speak and think?

Constructed languages are both good and a road to complete government control over how people speak and think; for without the benevolent order and structure provided by a (preferably nigh-omnipotent) state, most of humanity would slaughter itself in a war of all against all, and that’d be a terrible fate. Hey, that rhymes; that’s somewhat kewl!

But perhaps that’s too authoritarian... any other thoughts on the matter? I apologize if I’ve been impolite in any way whatsoever; I don’t wish to be cruel and or rude.

I've always had this fascination with constructed languages ever since I was introduced to Esperanto and my own imagination always thought that breaking the three main languages of North America, English, Spanish, and French into their original Germanic roots and adding loanwords from Native American languages would be a cool project. I've begun to think that a constructed language could be a way to forge a new identity but it would hopefully be open sourced and transparent, I know a very idealistic and pie in the sky thinking but it sounds like a fun project anyways. This is of course with America in mind.

Is it really necessary to pronounce it in Arabic, though?

I wasn't throwing around Latin words when I was still a Catholic...

Even with masses now mostly in vernacular, Catholics and even many Protestants still use Latin words and phrases liturgically, e g Gloria in excelsis Deo.

Join the benevolent authoritarian side (like me), in the name of peace and harmony and plenty and absolute order forever.

EDIT: We must save humanity from itself, so that we may rise beyond slaughtering each other over bread. The state must become an almighty world-encompassing leviathan to ensure stability and justice for all time and for the good of all humanity. Or, that’s my view, at least.
