I think join most of Virginia when offering my thoughts and prayers towards Secretary Bell. Secretary Bell is a great person and I wish him speedy recovery. -AA

Two comments on the CNN story:

First, great formatting job Pro, love the aesthetic of the post.

Second, Bell's health and age was something I'm surprised was not criticized more but this will be interesting to see how it plays out. If he recovers, he will face greater scrutiny about this issue. If he does not, well, a replacement will be a critical question. To me, no one comes to mind as of now.

Of course, but he would likely be able to give the image of a suitable successor.

Less traditional choices could be Sinclair or Locklear, though I think neither would accept and they would be very unlikely.

CIA background, working for Cheney, and sitting on the Intelligence committee, plus being relatively young, would make him a very solid pick. Bachelor too, so no family concerns.

I remain unsure if Mondale will pursue the post, she certainly has the ambition and could make the case for herself but may rather not follow up an icon like Bell.

Nonetheless, if she continues down the path of U.N. Ambassador, she certainly will try to influence the decision.

You know I am a huge Nikki Haley fan but when she was appointed to the UN i was concerned that other nations might not respond well to having a woman in the position.
