Donovian-Byzantine Border
Checkpoint XK-89
0700 Local Time
The sun crested above the dunes and broke the sky with brilliant hues of red and orange. The air carried with it the warm breeze and sand many Byzantines dreaded. Because with it came the scorching heat and blistering winds that threaten to cause the shut down of the border. As day breaks the road south becomes clear. Few cars ever came north these days. The Sultan had locked down most of Arabia due to internal strife. After partitioning his nation to become a protectorate of Amurria. Nationalist backlash forced him on the defense. Military officers were said to be on the verge of rebellion with only the highest commanders supporting the Sultan. But here on this sleepy border all that could be heard was the sands shifting and the distant chatter of radios.
Image

The calm was lost under the steady sound of fighters streaking across the sky. The silence shattered under the wings of the protector. Along the road truckloads of Legion soldiers were being rushed across.
The Donovian military was caught completely off guard.Image The cities of Ar'ar, Kahfji and Tabuk fell with only the police and the odd partisan resisting legion units. Image
Donovian Royalist Units began digging in from Yanbu to Hofuf. Hoping to form a viable line of defense and secure the oilfields which surely were the targets of the Byzantine strike. Nationalist forces however raced forth under the command of General Al-Hijez who vowed to drive back the Legion and chase them clear out of the region. The first target being the city of Sakakah.
It would be in this city that the Legion would meet its first real Resistance. Image

A Soldiers Life

Part 1

Dimitri has always wanted to be a soldier. Ever since that very first propaganda poster, he was inspired by the true grit of the Karelogradian Army. And after years of waiting, he was on the plane to his dream.

1 day later

“Hello, Comrades. I am Drill Sgt Sergei Shulmenkov. However, you will call me Sgt Sergei.”.

“Yes,Sgt Sergei.”. The cadets shouted. After that, the training was surprisingly easy. For the first two weeks, they learned about guns, did some tranining and it was generally peaceful. Almost too peaceful. The one thing that confused Dimitri was how 3 bunkers were on one side of the camp, and the other three were on the other side. However, he payed little attention to it.

A few days later

Dimitri woke up to a screeching alarms and gunshots. He found military equipment leaning against his bed. Just as he got up, the drill Sgt ran it, out of breath.

“THE BASE IS UNDER ATTACK! GRAB YOUR GUNS AND PREPARE TO DEFEND IT WITH YOUR LIFE.”. Dimitri was scared. He didn’t ask for this. Not now. Please don’t let me-. He was suddenly slapped.

“SNAP OUT OF IT! IF YOU DON’T YOU’LL DIE FOR SURE!”. A fellow Cadet yelled in his face. So he did exactly that. He picked up his gun, and ran into the fight.

The camp was filled with a thick fog. The group moved slowly. trying not to make much sound. The Drill Sgt suddenly stopped them.

“I forgot to mention, this is a competition between your three bunkers and the others. Your guns are loaded with fake bullets so they don’t do real damage. Whoever wins has a day off. Whoever loses will have a lot of running tommorow.”

“This is a test of your skills. Do preform well.”. “Goodbye.” The Sgt ran away. Dimitri never expected this. Even so, he will prove his worth. For Karelograd.

(OOC:Really sorry! This was rushed since I’m a little stressed out, I promise the next one will be much better!)

Royal Residence, New Konigstadt, Candanadian Capital Region, Candanadium

"The coronation will be underway soon, Your Majesty." A steward came in and reported. "His Holiness the Patriarch of Antioch has flown in to offer his services."

"Good. I will be there shortly." King Richard replied. He picked up the heavy golden crown and set it upon his head, then strapped his ceremonial sword to his side. It was one of House Magnar's family heirlooms, the ornate silver longsword that every king wore at royal ceremonies. His cloak was fastened with a clasp in the shape of the seal of House Magnar, three maple leaves and a crown within a border of blue. He turned around and headed downstairs to the throne room, where a smaller throne had been set before the Candanadian throne. Before it stood the Patriarch of Antioch, anointing the princess with oils.

"Rise." He proclaimed, as the princess stood. Prince Herman handed the Patriarch a cushion with a jeweled crown upon it, who then set it upon the princess's head."

"I now proclaim Ebrilon of House Tossa, First of Her Name, Queen of Ebrilond. Long may she reign."

"Long may she reign." The king and the prince echoed.

"Long may she reign." The hall broke into applause.

To the Esteemed Chancellor Maxime Bernier, Azura bless your soul,

I, in the name of the people of Amurria, want to congratulate your nation on the efforts made during the Operation Hudson Bay, and the safe guarding of the Princess of Ebrilond. I invite you to Edo, in a state visit, in order to establish what will happen in Ebrilond, now that the princess has become a queen. As we speak, the Imperial Navy is maintaining it's blockade over the islands, and the Grand Navy of the Co-Prosperity Sphere is on it's way to help evacuate the civilians from the coastal towns.
What we hope to accomplish by doing this is to create a safe space for these refugees in Taiwan, from which they may either choose to remain there, move to Candanadium, where the queen is, or return to Ebrilond once the situation has been established.
We also request your help in capturing the island of Tasmania, and turning it into a permanent refugee camp for the Ebrilondian refugees until the conflict ends.

Signed,
Honorary Member of the House of Edo,
Prime Minister of the Empire of Amurria,
Asano Isuzu

To Her Excellency, Prime Minister Asano Isuzu of the Empire of Amurria,

I would like to thank you for your offer, and I hereby accept your offer of a state visit. The earliest I will be able to visit Amurria will be January 12. Candanadium will begin airdropping arms and ammunition to the monarchist resistance soon, and I would like to discuss the possibility of granting us authorization to deploy troops on the ground in Ebrilond, in order to aid with your invasion of Tasmania.

We wish to deploy the RCNS Jade Dragon to Ebrilond on her maiden voyage once her construction has been completed, to aid in patrols and perform support duties. More can be discussed at our upcoming state visit.

I look forward to meeting in person soon.

Best regards,
The Right Honourable Chancellor of Candanadium and Lord of the Northern Isles,
Maxime Bernier

Life in the Marines, Part 1
RCMCRD Fort Richard, Baffin Bay, Candanadium

Liam looked out the windows of the bus at the sprawling military complex up in front of him. A plain blue sign jutted out from the roadside. On it were the words YOU ARE ENTERING ROYAL CANDANADIAN MARINE CORPS RECRUIT DEPOT-FORT RICHARD. Liam gulped, and let his eyes drift away. There was a group of recruits running along the side of the road, all dressed in green sweatpants and sweatshirts. Leading them was a Candanadian Marine with the three stripes of a sergeant. As the recruits ran by, he could hear them belting out a song at the top of their lungs.

It's a long way to Guantanamo.
It's a long way to go.
It's a long way to Guantanamo,
To the warmest breeze I know.
Farewell, New Konigstadt!
Goodbye Magnar Square!
It's a long long way to Guantanamo,
But my heart's right there!

The bus suddenly lurched to a stop in front of a squat, brick building. In front of it was two towering flagpoles with the Candanadian flag and the royal standard on them. The bus doors opened, and a Sergeant made his way up the steps. He stood at the front of the bus.

"YOU WILL STAND UP NOW AND QUICKLY EXIT THE BUS. YOU WILL FIND YELLOW FOOTPRINTS ON THE PAVEMENT OUTSIDE. YOU WILL FALL IN ON THOSE FOOTPRINTS FROM FRONT TO BACK, AND YOU WILL DO THIS AS FAST AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?" He roared at the group of recruits.

"AYE SIR!" The recruits shouted back at him, Liam loud amongst them. He stood up and rushed off the bus, like everyone else around him. As he stepped off the bus, the scene that greeted him was chaotic. Candanadian Marines in digital camo were swarming between the recruits, bellowing commands while the poor recruits stood at attention on the yellow footprints that greeted them. Liam scurried to the nearest pair of footprints he saw and stood, as rigid as a board.

"STAND UP STRAIGHT, DO NOT MOVE, AND LOOK AT ME! WELCOME TO ROYAL CANDANADIAN MARINE CORPS RECRUIT DEPOT, FORT RICHARD. YOU HAVE TAKEN THE FIRST STEP INTO BECOMING A MEMBER OF THE WORLD'S MOST ELITE FIGHTING FORCE, THE ROYAL CANDANADIAN MARINE CORPS. FROM NOW ON THE ONLY THING THAT YOU WILL SAY WHEN ASKED A QUESTION IS YES SIR AND NO SIR. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?" A Marine at the front of the formation screamed.

"AYE SIR!" The assembled recruits responded immediately.

"FROM NOW ON YOU WILL EAT, SLEEP, AND TRAIN AS A TEAM. YOU WILL OBEY ORDERS AND YOU WILL NOT QUESTION YOUR SUPERIORS. YOU WILL ADDRESS ALL MARINES AS SIR, AND YOU WILL ONLY SPEAK WHEN SPOKEN TO. IS THAT UNDERSTOOD?"

"AYE SIR!"

"NOW FACE MY BUILDING!" The recruits moved as one, turning to face the brick building.

"YOU! RECRUIT! WHAT PART OF 'DO NOT MOVE' DID YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?" A Marine suddenly popped up beside Liam. He was about to say something, but his words caught in his throat. Liam had scratched the back of his leg with his right leg a few moments ago, and the Marine must have saw it.

"N-Nothing, sir." He managed, before the Marine got up close to Liam and thrust a hand in his face.

"YOU WILL OBEY YOUR COMMANDING OFFICER'S ORDERS TO THE LETTER. DO YOU UNDERSTAND, RECRUIT?"

"Y-yes, sir."

"GOOD. FRONT LEANING REST POSITION, MOVE!" He bellowed. Liam was confused. He didn't know what this meant.

"OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE RECRUIT, GET ON YOUR HANDS!" The Marine added. Liam did just that.

"I DIDN'T HEAR NOTHING, RECRUIT!"

"Y-yes, sir." Liam was choking back tears.

"YES SIR? WHAT ARE WE, THE FUCKING ARMY? YOU ARE TRAINING TO BECOME A MARINE, RECRUIT, AND WHEN YOU ARE GIVEN AN ORDER YOU RESPOND WITH 'AYE, SIR'. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?"

"Aye, sir!" Liam screamed back.

"NOW, RECRUIT, YOU OWE ME FIFTEEN PUSH UPS. MOVE!" Liam got to work. When he had finished, the Marine at the front of the formation was giving another speech.

"WHEN YOU ENTER THESE DOORS, THERE IS NO TURNING BACK. YOU WILL NOT ENTER THESE DOORS AGAIN IF YOU DO NOT MAKE THE CUT. UNTIL THE DAY YOU BECOME A MARINE, YOU SHALL NOT EXIT THIS DOORS, EXCEPT FOR PT. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?"

"AYE SIR!" The doors opened by themselves.

"GET IN MY BUILDING! MOVE YOUR ASSES!"

An empire restored

Postby Montgomere » Fri Jan 11, 2019 3:18 pm

As you get up, you would stretch and walk outside, not expecting a rebellion outside. "Uhh, what is this about?" you would turn to your Minister of Internal Affairs. near. "Well, sir, these people don't want this type of government..." he replies, scratching his head. "We just need to wait in see." he would walk off, avoiding the rebels. "Ugh, I can't deal with this shit today." you would stumble back inside, shutting your door behind you. "Maybe, it is what they want.." you would mumble to yourself, walking upstairs toward the balcony. "Greetings, people." you would begin.

"Everyone, I am guessing that you want something more than plain democracy, is that it?" you would ask to the mob. You would see some nods and hear some people mumble the word 'yes'. "So, I have a proposal. I propose a new ideology, called... Rionalism." you would say to the crowd. "It is a mixture of Communism, Democracy, and Socialism." you would start explaining. "The government would be Democratic, along with the Market, and there would be Communist military, and remaining factors would be, Socialist." you would finish explaining. The crowd would start to cheer, satisfied with your decision.

"I guess it is time, to have the Rionalist Republics of Montgomere." You would say, happily and satisfied, as well. You would make the speech known throughout the world, and Montgomere, through Twitter.

Parliament Hill, New Konigstadt, Candanadian Capital Region, Candanadium

"Two reports today, sir." Herman stepped through the door to the Chancellor's office, which was being occupied by Ethan Wagner, Minister of Foreign Affairs. Chancellor Maxime Bernier was in Amurria, holding talks with the Amurrian Prime Minister about the recent fiasco in Ebrilond.

"Alright Herman, let me see them." Ethan looked over the two documents in front of him.

"The Montgomerians have turned communist, and the Focusists have overthrown the old Focusists in Ebrilond. What of it? Should we send them a congratulatory letter?" Ethan tossed them on his desk.

"No, sir. The Chancellor must be informed at once. As long as there is a Focusist government in Ebrilond, the Queen of Ebrilond is in danger."

"Of course. Anything else?"

"Yes, sir. The Jazadoan government has given us permission to set up a naval base in Sanya, on the island of Hainan. The Chancellor means to create a Pacific Fleet, with the new carrier we're building."

"Yes, I'll tell him that as well." Ethan picked up a pen and began writing.

Maxime,

The Focusists have overthrown Barran in Ebrilond. We will need to commence operations immediately, to retake Tasmania and eventually the capital. I have increased security for the Queen of Ebrilond, and the Jazadoans have given us a base in Sanya. Try to contact the Jazadoans. We'll need their support in the coming fight.

Two letters

Postby Candanadium » Fri Jan 11, 2019 8:05 pm

To His Excellency, the President of Greater Canada,

On behalf of the Chancellor of Candanadium and His Majesty, King Richard I, we invite you to New Konigstadt to address the possibility of redrawing our borders. Candanadium is asking that Greater Canada cede to us its northernmost slice of territory. In exchange, Candanadium shall offer support in any Canadian efforts to expand into British Columbia/Alaska. We would also like to ask support in the taking of Yukon. This will be beneficial to both parties, as both will gain territory. I must emphasize that Candanadium has no desire to ever march south and turn on its southern neighbours.

I hope you will consider my offer.

Signed,
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Acting Chancellor of Candanadium,
Ethan Wagner

To His Excellency, the Leader of Montgomere,

On behalf of the Chancellor of Candanadium and His Majesty, King Richard I, I am writing to establish diplomatic relations with the Rionalist Republics of Montgomere. We will send an envoy and an ambassador to Portland to discuss the possibility of a trade agreement and a mutual defence pact. In return, we will be more than happy to receive a Montgomerian ambassador in New Konigstadt.

I hope you will consider our offer. Let this mark a new age of cooperation between Candanadium and Montgomere.

Ebrilond, The Candanadian Blockade, 7th of January 2018

Admiral Zhang watched as Jazadoan bombers swooped over his head and flew to Melbourne, the bombardments had begun, and shells rained down upon Barran’s men. Lorne was in the hands of the monarchists and they had pushed to Eastern View, the Jazadoan weaponry had finally arrived and the rations proved to be more than enough to sustain the men. The had sent the 1st and the 4th Marine Corps to King Island and reports from the marines told of them securing Currie.

Currie, King Island, Coast of Tasmania, The Candanadian Blockade, January 10th, 2019

The First and Fourth corps were reinforced with the 91st infantry and had managed to secure the island, hunting down Barran’s men was quite troublesome seeing as all there was, was empty fields. The task was finished and the airport in Currie once more operational plans to retake Melbourne looked better once more, the Eastern View was now under Monarchist control and so was Separation Creek, there was still heavy fighting between the 1st infantry and the monarchist forces against the Free Focusists, a blockade was set up in Deans Marsh-Lorne Road to stop Focusists and Barran if they were to come from Colac.

The Commander of the post Jiao Tianyuan was reassigning the divisions to new tasks,
“First Corp! Your new objective is to aid the First Infantry and the Monarchists in at Wye River, you will land on Wye river beach and secure the great ocean road crossing the river and to hold the beach long enough for our men to get there. 4th Corp! The 2nd Marines and monarchists have met heavy resistance from Barran’s men at Moggs Creek, we need you to deploy on the other side to help secure the bridge that crosses that river! You have been given your assignments now go!” He yelled as all the men ran to their positions and hurried to get to their objectives.

Moggs Creek, South Ebrilond, January 10th, 2019
“GO! GO! GO! GET YOUR ASSES OVER THERE! WE AINT GOT ALL DAY!” Yelled one of the Monarchist officers while firing his FAL at Barran’s soldiers as they tried to make a counter attack. Their rifle muzzles flared and Barran’s men dropped each one dying their own way. Suterland and Boyd Avenue had been secured now all the heavy fighting was at the bridge. They were pushing towards the river and were close, Barran’s men slowly retreating fell one by one as they tried to stop their advance. The monarchists had took heavy casualties at Eastern View but with the help of the Jazadoans their morals were raised once more.

The 4th and 6th Rifle Companies were dispatched along with the first Artillery Brigade was sent to provide support. The monarchists had about a thousand men but despite out numbering the enemy the river would even their positions.

“PUSH GODDAMIT! WE’RE ALMOST TH-” The officer was shot through the neck, falling to the floor he grasped where he had been shot as if hoping it would save him, but in the end he died anyway like everyone else that had fallen before him. The amount of Barran’s troops there was estimated to be around a hundred, but civilians pressed into service bolstered their ranks to something around five hundred, ill equip and out gunned their moral wavered. Blood was spilled from both sides and all flowed to the river turning it crimson and filling it with all the worlds’ gore. Night had fallen and both sides were tired but not tired enough to give up, the 4th and 6th Rifle Companies were making a push and the Monarchists had crossed the river in a ford flanking Barran’s men in the north. Then in the dead of night the last thing anyone had expected happened, the citizens that were pressed into service deserted, ran into the dark of night and away from the conflict. Seeing this they had only one option and that was surrender.

Separation Creek, South Ebrilond, January 10th, 2019

The 1st platoon from the first infantry had circled around the Creek and crossed the bridge in the north at Separation Creek Track, they were making their way south. The monarchists along with the 7th and 8th companies had crossed the creek and were met with resistance from the Focusists, their foe was more in number, sure, but they had the better tacticians and the professional men. They had pushed to Dunoon road and were holding the line from the Focusists, as wave after wave poured in their mounted machine guns opened fire and just like on the beaches each wave returned back the way it came leaving the dead and the wounded. The 7th Artillery Brigade had set itself up behind Separation Creek and were preparing to fire upon the Focusists and provide cover.

At 15:21 they had managed to push all the way to Durimbil Avenue, the Monarchists charged ahead without backup and in turn lost their heads. The focusists were closing in but the charge that was made gave time for the Jazadoans to create defensive positions in the buildings. Artillery from the naval bombardments and the mortars the monarchists had set up struck the buildings just in front of them creating large clouds of dust and turning these once sturdy and tall buildings into broken down and spaces used only for combat. Another volley and even more building were turned into the work of giants.

16:04 the 1st platoon had arrived at the north side of the town, seeing the sheer numbers of the force the Focusists fled across the bridge, in this route both the Monarchists and the Jazadoans came out of their positions and made for the bridge gunning down all who had their backs turned to them. Some focusists stayed to fight, they died too but finally they made it to the bridge. The monarchists and the 9th Company (One which had came to reinforce the force from Separation Creek) secured the bridge on the Great Ocean Road and the 7th and 8th secured the bridge at Wongarra.

The men entrenched themselves and were planning to wait for dark, let the artillery soften them up for us first they all thought. Snipers exchanged shots and machineguns roared on both sides, this fight would be long and it would cost them much but not now, no it was not the quite the time for that.

Moggs Creek, South Ebrilond, January 11th, 2019

06:42: The morning mist had cleared, and all was quiet, strange. The seemingly unending gunfire was suddenly silenced and not a single one of Barran’s troops were sighted, the 4th Rifle Company sent three squads to scout the town across the bridge, still nothing. It was quiet, too quiet even for the likings of the monarchists who had wished for peace so much.

Foreboding and Foreshadowing

Postby Jazado » Fri Jan 11, 2019 11:18 pm

Ebrilond wrote:January 11,2019,Ebrilondian Parliament,16:54
Michael Barran was sitting in his office, sadly gazing outside.
The Leader of the Ebrilondian Special Forces stepped inside the room, this time Michael didn't stand up.
"What is it now?"-asked Michael.
"Sir,I'm sadly going to say we have no chance. The Focusists are causing massive damage to our mortars. We need to surrender now."-responded the Leader.
"Well... I guess nothing lasts forever. Give out the commands and raise the white flag over the building."-sobbed Michael.
"Yes,sir."-stuttered the Leader.

"EVERYONE,FALL BACK! WE SURRENDER!"-shouted the Leader, and in that moment, the white flag was hoisted up the bomb-shook Ebrilondian Parliament.
They also heard a loud metallic thud sound.
The Leader stepped inside Michael Barran's personal berth, and all he seen was blood everywhere with a Webley Revolver resting in his dead hands. His head was blown to pieces.
The majority of the Michael Barran-Supporters left the building with their arms high in the air, while the Free Ebrilondian Focusist Forces lofted up the new flag of Ebrilond next to the white ensign.

"What will happen to Michael?"-asked one of the Recruits to the Leader.
"We don't know,he shot himself. Let's hope we only get prisonment and not execution."-claimed the Leader.

With now the bloody civil war being over,Ebrilond will start to heal it's wounds, affecting almost every Ebrilondian people who opposed evil Michael Barran's cruel dictatorship establishments.

17:08,Outskirts of the Parliament
Clorg Sean, inventor of Focusism, was now dressed in his old glory days, fancy dress and an elegant,non-chewed bowler hat. He stood in front of the executionees who were tied up,begging to be released.
"My fellow Focusists,Monarchists,Brothers,Sisters,Boys,Girls,Ladies and Gentlemen. The Eleventh of January,2019 marks the drastic end of the combat we all participated in. I want all important personnel to be rewarded with the Focusist-Cross military decoration in the soon-to be renovated parliament on the 15th of January. Again,I want to thank everyone who took apportionment in this encounter with them idiotic 'nazis' may I call them..."-declared Sean with an encouraged voice, with everyone cheering, upon the loud gladdening, the sound of champagne-bottle openings were heard and whom were holding their weapons, started imitating the Tuskens, raising them up and shaking them.
While all this happened, the dominant crew of the Michael Barran-Supporters were slain with silenced guns.

"Looks like Ebrilond will have a bright future under my and other four people's control."-muttered Sean to himself.

The war against Barran may have been won, but the fight between monarchist and focusist was bound to happen soon. Without a common enemy to bring these two factions together that alliance they formed would come to seem more like a barrier than progress, after all was it not the focusists who killed the royal family? And was it not them who also threw the nation once known as Ebrilond into civil war? Strange that they even came together but like all things the alliance must come to an end.

Beijing, Tiananmen square, January 12th, 2019, 08:21

"The civil war may be over, but its only a matter of time before another arises. The Queen of Ebrilond is still exiled and Candanadium is bound to justify war against Greater Canada, this not peace, no but a pause." Said Liu Bei as he contemplated the recent events.

"Not to mention Jazadoan troops are still fighting the remains of Barran's Army and some of the Focusists too." Added Zhang Fei.

"Have they been given the order to stand down?" Asked Liu Kang who had recently returned to Beijing.

"Yes" Reassured Zhang Fei "They have but it is going to take some time to get them out of there."

"Well, we could ask for a military base in King Island." Suggested Liu Bei.

"That would be most ideal but its not up to us, its for the Ebrilondians to decide." Replied Liu Kang

A message to the people of Ebrilond
The Emperor of Jazado would like to ask for permission
to establish military bases in Melbourne and King Island.
We believe that after the recent civil war your people
will need all the help they can get and external factors
to intervene in further conflicts that may arise.
The establishment of Jazadoan Military bases in Ebrilond
will ensure that there will always be a military force that
is capable of keeping peace and maintaining order without
being affected by the internal conflicts in Ebrilond.

Please do consider,
From, the Emperor of Jazado, the Jade Dragon, Defender of Faith and of Jazado, Liu Kang

Just as the Emperor finished his letter the Chairman came in holding a stack of paper.

"The Military Reforms are just about done, but we need to work a bit more on our internal and social policies regarding unemployment, homelessness and a few other things." He said as he dropped the massive stack of paper on the Emperor's desk. Reports on current construction work and military reports from Ebrilond.

"Yes yes, I know but as of now I am quite busy. Take whom ever you need to carry out those changes but be sure to report back to me on your weekly progress. But I would prefer it if you tackled the unemployment first, there is need for more workers around here and I think you understand what I mean." Said the Emperor.

"Right as rain, I'll be taking Joseph and borrowing Liu Bei whenever you can spare him." Said the Chairman before leaving to work on the new social policies that were to drafted.

Prime Minister's Car, Edo, Empire of Amurria, 12:02, 12th January 2019 CE/2679 IY

"The civil war in Ebrilond had ended, this might bring an end to the fighting in the country, but if they do not allow the queen to come back, the situation may get worse." said Maxime Bernier, looking out the car's window at the old buildings from the historical district.

"Unless they clearly hate the queen, they should accept her back, even as a constitutional monarch. If they do not, that would lead to another civil war. Plus, we have the Imperial Army deployed in Tasmania, so in any case we can establish the Kingdom of Ebrilond there." replied the Prime Minister. "We request military help from Candanadium, and help in rescue operations of monarchists on the main island which might be persecuted by the current government."

"Candanadium agrees to provide help to the Empire of Amurria's operations in Ebrilond, and we will keep the blockade until the current government proves an ally of our interests."

"Great. Although this state visit was more of a diplomatic meeting, we at least took care of this situation. After the crisis in Ebrilond ends, the Amurrian government invites His Royal Majesty the King of Candanadium to Kyoto, the ancient Imperial Capital."

"We will consider this offer."

The Pan-Asia Hotel, Edo, Amurria. 9:48 PM, January 12, 2019

Maxime cleared the hotel desk and sat down. He had an email from Ethan Wagner, whom he had appointed Acting Chancellor. He opened it, and read it quickly. The Jazadoans had allowed them to open a base in Sanya, which was good to hear. He would need to check with the Jazadoans and check on the Jade Dragon's progress. Perhaps I'll do a layover in Hong Kong on my way back to New Konigstadt, Maxime thought. It would be nice to see the new carrier for himself, since he hadn't been there for the commissioning of the Aurora Borealis. Once he got back to New Konigstadt, he would have to meet with the Grand Admiral to appoint an Admiral for the new Pacific fleet. He had arrived in Amurria on a government plane, however, their orders were to take him back to New Konigstadt. Although he could order them to reroute, Maxime thought it would be best if he could arrive in Hong Kong discreetly. Maxime opened up the website for Air Candanadium, then realized he was in Amurria. He found Imperial Airlines' website, pulled out his dark red diplomatic passport, and made a booking for a flight at 5:00 PM tomorrow afternoon from Edo to Hong Kong. He had never been to Jazado before, and although Hong Kong was one of those more westernized cities, it would be a unique experience. After that was taken care of, Maxime typed up a reply to Ethan.

Ethan,

The Amurrians told me this morning. I'm flying to Hong Kong tomorrow to inspect the Jade Dragon and check on the progress. Increase security on the Queen. The Ebrilondians have issued a new Constitution, and it seems like they'll take her back. I don't trust these people, though. I'll talk to the Amurrians tomorrow about holding talks with the new government. Do not let anyone near the Queen without your express permission. One more thing, talk to His Majesty. Perhaps we can make the Queen an honourary member of House Magnar, to show the Ebrilondians that she's under our protection. Don't burn the place down while I'm gone.

Signed,
Chancellor of Candanadium and Lord of the Northern Isles
Maxime Bernier

PS: The Amurrians have invited His Majesty for a state visit. Tell him that as well.

Hong Kong International Airport, Hong Kong, Jazado

Maxime stepped towards the immigration booth, holding his dark red diplomatic passport and an entry card. He slid his passport and entry card over to a bored-looking official on the other side.

"Name?" He asked.

"Maxime van Bernier." On his passport, he was Maxime van Bernier, Lord of the Northern Isles. He hated using his formal title, though. It made him sound pretentious, and he had never integrated into the lifestyles of the nobility.

"What is the purpose of your trip?"

"Business." Strictly speaking, it was business. Government business.

"Occupation?"

"Chancellor of the Kingdom of Candanadium, leader of the Constitution Party of Candanadium, and Lord of the Northern Isles." The immigration officer was startled, and took a closer look at Maxime's passport.

"Sir, I'm sorry, but we weren't told about your visit." The officer stammered out.

"You wouldn't have. Nobody knows I'm in Jazado, this was a last-minute arrangement."

"I see." The immigration officer hesitated before stamping Maxime's passport with a red stamp and handing it back, hardly even glancing at his entry form.

"Welcome to Jazado, sir. Next!" Maxime headed towards the exit with his luggage in tow. He had exchanged some of his Candanadian marks for Jazadoan aurums back in Edo, so he was set for cash. He hailed a cab and got in. Hong Kong drove on the left, unlike the rest of Jazado, due to its colonial history. Maxime pulled out a piece of paper with Chinese writing from his pocket that he had printed off from an email. The taxi driver nodded, and the taxi lurched forward.

Jade Dragon Shipyards, Hong Kong, Jazado

Maxime looked at the enormous hulk rising up above him in the harbour. The carrier was humongous, casting a shadow over the dock. RCNS JADE DRAGON was painted on the side, with the Royal Candanadian Navy's emblem beside it. A Candanadian flag flew from the bridge.

"How long will it be before it's finished?" Maxime asked the sailor next to him. There were a small group of Candanadian sailors here, familiarizing themselves with the ship that they were going to serve on.

"Around two weeks, sir. They're installing the armaments and computer systems. The only real work they did here in Hong Kong was assemble the bridge, and the rest was done back in Iqaluit."

"Good. The Grand Admiral will be delighted to hear this."

"Would you like to take a tour onboard, sir?"

"Certainly." Maxime climbed on to the gangplank and walked aboard Candanadium's newest carrier. The flight deck was empty, with workers painting lines and markings on it. The sailor lead Maxime up to the bridge, which was empty save for a few tables and the command station. Maxime looked out at the sun setting over Victoria Harbour, and closed his eyes, content.

Ethan,

The Amurrians have agreed that we will first send envoys to hold talks with the new Ebrilondian government, to see what they'll agree to. It's a risky business, so keep the Queen well guarded. I want the Royal Protection Squadron posted outside her door day and night. The Jade Dragon can be commissioned in around two weeks, so you'd better get around to informing the Grand Admiral. Inform His Majesty that I have set a tentative date of January 20 for the state visit to Amurria. My flight to New Konigstadt leaves tomorrow morning, so I'll see you at the airport.

House of Commons Chamber, Parliament Hill, New Konigstadt, CCR, Candanadium

"Order. I would like to begin the second reading on the adoption of Bill C-97, 'Addressing the Issue of Arranged Marriages', made by the Honourable Member for Iqaluit-Central." The Speaker of the House announced, as he drew up the document.

Bill C-97
Addressing the Issue of Arranged Marriages
Submitted by: The Honourable Member for Iqaluit-Central

The House of Commons,

Fully aware that arranged marriages between noble families have been a tradition ever since the founding of Candanadium,
Alarmed that five arranged marriages have taken place in the past five years, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, and all of those marriages were later terminated,
Concerned about the well-being of both parties involved in arranged marriages, as most individuals in arranged marriages do not know the other party,
Noting with satisfaction that most noble houses, including House Magnar, House Eisenschild, and House Brimmhalle have not made arranged marriages since the last hundred years,
Staunchly believing that the concept of arranged marriages violates individual liberty and is no longer needed in the modern world,

Thus calls for a ban on all forms of arranged marriages in Candanadium.

"The Honourable Member for Iqaluit-Central has the floor." The Speaker announced.

"Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I would like to begin by expressing my belief that arranged marriages have no place in modern day Candanadium. Mr. Speaker, the Constitution Party greatly values the concept of individual liberty while preserving our best historical traditions, however, arranged marriages is not one of them. Arranged marriages, Mr. Speaker, violates the rights of every Candanadian to life and liberty. While arranged marriages have been a major part in our past, it is simply not relevant any more to have arranged marriages in our modern Candanadian society. Thank you."

"The Honourable Leader of the Opposition." The Speaker announced, as the Leader of the Opposition rose. He was a tall, heavy-set man with pudgy cheeks.

"Thank you Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, I have no doubts that my colleagues on the other side of the aisle believe they are acting in the best interests of democracy and liberty. However, I must emphasize that arranged marriages have not been relevant for more than a hundred years. According to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, only five arranged marriages have been made during the past five years, and none of them were successful. Mr. Speaker, a ban on arranged marriages is simply not needed. Our government is already overladen with bureaucracy, and it would be in our best interests to lessen the burdens of the Ministry of Civil Affairs. Thank you."

You sneaky bastard. Thought Maxime. He was using the tactics of the Constitution Party against them, by making promises of small government. He moved to raise his placard, but decided against it. He saw the leader of the Democratic Party do so, however, which was unusual.

"The Honourable Member for Nuuk-Outlying Islands." The leader of the Democratic Party's seat was Nuuk-Outlying Islands, a region known to be exceedingly liberal.

"Mr. Speaker, I fear that for once we must agree with our friends in the government." The chamber broke into laughter.

"Order. The Honourable Member for Nuuk-Outlying Islands has the floor."

"We agree that the outdated tradition of arranged marriages should no longer be used as an excuse for sons and daughters of noblemen to be used as political pawns. This is the first step in making sure that noblemen are removed from politics, I'm sure the Honourable Minister of Information and Communications and the Right Honourable Chancellor can both agree." The Democratic Party burst into laughter. The Minister of Information and Communications was Elliott von Eisenschild, younger brother to the current Lord Eisenschild. Maxime raised his own placard, and the Speaker nodded at him.

"Order. The Honourable Members for Nuuk-Outlying Islands and Prince Christian Sound will come to order. The Member for Nuuk-Outlying Islands is reminded that personal attacks are not tolerated in this chamber. The Right Honourable Chancellor has the floor." Maxime rose.

"Mr. Speaker, although I appreciate the support of the Democratic Party, I am inclined to remind the Speaker that I myself am not of noble birth. I was raised to nobility under the late King William IV. Now that we have clarified my birth, I would like to ask the Democratic Party if they really have stooped so low that they prioritize edging noblemen out of their elected positions over individual liberty? Surely the Democratic Party is better than that?" His own party applauded him as he sat down. The Democratic Party's leader's face was flushed, and he did not raise his own placard in retort. Maxime saw a few more placards go up on the other side of the house.

"The Honourable Member for Greater Polaris." The Speaker announced. The Member for Greater Polaris was the leader of the Reformist Party, noted anti-monarchists. Maxime had a gut feeling that they were being funded by some foreign power, but he kept that largely to himself.

"Mr. Speaker, I would like to applaud the Member for Iqaluit-Central for writing such a commendable bill. The Reformist Party is in full support of this bill, as we believe this will be the first of many changes to rid the nation of our monarchist burden. Thank you." The Reformist's speech was short, but Maxime was worried. The anti-monarchist parties were supporting this bill for the wrong reasons. He had to make another speech at the end to clarify their stance, otherwise the media would be all over this juicy scoop about the Constitution Party apparently changing direction. He saw one of the backbenchers raise his placard.

"The Honourable Member for Guantanamo City." The Speaker said. The only MP representing the Socialist Party was the one representing Guantanamo City, though the member for Greater Guantanamo was a staunch Conservative. The Member for Guantanamo City was a dark-skinned Cuban native, with a slight Spanish accent to his speech.

"Thank you, Comrade Speaker. Comrades, we must throw off the burdens of monarchism, tradition, and capitalism by eradicating archaic practices. The Comrades of the Socialist Party are in full support of this bill, just like our Comrades in the Reformist and Democratic Parties. Thank you, and glory to the proletariat." It was hard to tell if the Member for Guantanamo City was a serious Socialist or putting on a show, though it did not matter to Maxime. To him, the only good socialist was a dead one, or a mute one. The Speaker glared disapprovingly at the Member for Guantanamo City, then rose and spoke.

"The Honourable Member for Guantanamo City is reminded to address the Speaker as 'Mr. Speaker', and to refrain from addressing other members directly. We will now entertain one more Member before moving into voting procedures. Are there any in the House at this time?" Maxime raised his placard.

"The Right Honourable Chancellor has the floor." Maxime rose again, cleared his throat, and spoke.

"Thank you Mr. Speaker. I would like to remind the House that the purpose of this bill is to repeal a practice which infringes upon individual liberty and the freedom of choice, not to rid the nation of monarchism or to tear down our traditions. Although I appreciate the support, I wish to remind the House of the clear distinction between upholding libertarian values and destroying our heritage. Thank you." Maxime signalled the pages for a glass of water as the House moved into voting procedures. I need a vacation, he thought. He had spent the past few nights in hotel rooms and on planes, and he missed Deepwood Hall, the residence of the Chancellor. It would be good to see his kids again.

Sapporo, 5th January 2019 CE/2679 IY

After watching TV for a few minutes, Takeru decided it was time to go out, and so he took out his phone, formed Otome's number, then waited for her response:

"Yes, Takeru, what is it?"

"In front of your apartment building, right?" he asked.

"Yeah, gonna be there in a few minutes. As I told you before, I think you'll enjoy the movie."

"Oh, regarding that, what's the movie's name?"

"It's a secret, plus, Imma come out soon. See ya!" she said cheerly before closing the phone.

He got dressed in his winter coat, and once again went out in the city, preparing for what would soon become a date. The sky was now clear, but the snow was still covering most of the city's streets, through which he made his way to Otome's apartment, on the way thinking about the way his life has gone, and his future. By the time he got there, Otome was just getting out of the building, and when she saw him, she rushed to him, but fell headfirst into the snow, much to Takeru's amusement, who then knelt besides her, helping her stand up again.

"You okay?" he asked, kinda worried as he helped her take the snow off her clothes.

"Yes, thank you" she replied, as she began to blush lightly, before hugging him. "I haven't seen you in a long time, I was kinda worried something might have happened to you, but seeing you here, I know you're alright." She smiled.

"Y-yeah, me too, I didn't hear from you that much. The movie gonna start tho, we should get going, shouldn't we?" Takeru asked.

"You're right," she looked at her phone, at the time, and saw the bus come into the station, then grabbed Takeru's hand and began running towards it. "Let's go!"

They soon arrived at the cinema, minutes before the film started, they quickly ran to their seats, took off their coats, and began chatting about the film.

"So, what's it's name, after all?" asked Takeru.

"Something about a spy sent in the USSR or something. I just know the action scenes are among the best ever created." Otome said, looking at him. "It's beginning."

"Can I rest my head here?" she asked shyly, her red face being hidden by the darkness in the room, but not enough as to not be noticeable, as she rested her head on his left shoulder.

"Sure." Takeru said, trying not to sound scared, as this never happened to him, but he mustered the courage to hold her closer, to which she responded by snuggling into him.

"This sure did never happen to me." Takeru thought, as he looked at the movie. "What should I do? At least I know she's into me, and she's a nice girl too, after all we were good friends back then." She tried to get up, turning her head towards him, just as he tried to look down at her, their lips touched. Even though this was the first time for both of them, they didn't feel like breaking the kiss or anything, they knew they were to be together. After this, they kept watching the movie, albeit awkwardly, barely talking to each other, although their hands were always together.
When the movie ended, they decided to take a walk around the city's park. Although it was only 6 PM, the sky was already dark, and the lights were turned on. From there they could see the Shogun's Palace, regarding which Otome said:

"Someday I wish to become the Shogun."

"Why is that? You'd need to either be of an important noble House, or be chosen directly by the Emperor."

"I know, but I don't worry, it's just a dream. Although serving as a guard for the Shogun would be great too. I heard she's a pretty cool person, of course, not that conservative, and she brought many reforms to the Imperial Army in the years after she came to power." She leaned on Takeru. "Imagine us, you, the Emperor, and I, the Shogun, just like the current ones." She looked at him smiling.

"The idea sounds great, I won't disagree, but there's no chance I'll become Emperor, unless I am somehow a lost relative, and I know I ain't. But what about you?" He looked in her eyes.

"I know I am a relative to a minor noble house, which once placed a Shogun on the throne. So I may have higher chances of becoming Shogun than you." She giggled lightly.

"That's cool, although I don't want to become Shogun or Emperor, I just want to work as a naval architect. Whether for the military or civilian companies, that doesn't matter."

"But I see you are able to lead others tho, you would make for a good captain."

The weather started getting colder and colder as they kept talking, until Takeru said:

"It's getting cold, innit? How far is your home, I'll walk with you till there."

"It's okay, it's pretty far. You live nearby, what do you say if I sleep at your place, just for the night." She asked, while looking him in the eyes. Takeru couldn't control himself and kissed her, to which she hugged him tightly, making sure they were as close as possible.

"Sure" he said, trying to look cool, clearly the cold weather helped. They walked to his place, where they ate dinner together, watched a movie, and, while I cannot tell you what the last thing they did was, rest assured their first half of the night was full of action, and, as the laws of physics tell us, the latter half was full of inaction, sleeping a wonderful, deep sleep together, holding each other in their arms, with the words "I love you" visible on their lips. This was the night Takeru became a man, and Otome, a woman. They will enter the world together, but who knows if they will be able to achieve their dreams?

New Konigstadt, CCR, Candanadium. January 15, 2019. 20th year of the rule of King Richard I.

The wind howled past Herman as he made his way down the streets of New Konigstadt. January was the worst month of winter in New Konigstadt, with howling winds and blizzards being commonplace. Soon it would be the 21st anniversary of his father's ascension to the throne. King Richard was 49 years old, though still an active man. Herman had been born back in 1997, a year before his father ascended to the throne. Fresh out of the Marine Corps, Herman was still getting used to life at the University of New Konigstadt. He had just gotten off the U-Bahn, and he was heading to the Crown and Maple, a bar near Deepwood Hall that had been opened by a distant relative to House Magnar back during the rule of King Herman II. The Crown and Maple was popular among the nobility, famous for serving the darkest beer in New Konigstadt. Earlier that week, Herman had gotten an email from the Candanadian Embassy in Auburm, Cottonlay, sent by his cousin, Tobias von Magnar.

Tobias was serving as Candanadian Ambassador to Cottonlay, but he had been granted a couple weeks of leave. He had arrived in New Konigstadt yesterday morning, and Herman had invited him to the Crown and Maple for drinks. It would be good to see Tobias again. Tobias von Magnar was two years older than Herman, the son of Prince Charles von Magnar, Herman's only surviving uncle. Charles had been crippled in a car accident when he was 16, and he married earlier than King Richard. Charles lived in Summerhall, the summer palace of House Magnar, though Tobias had grown up with Herman in the Royal Residence. Tobias had signed up for a government job instead of serving in the Defence Forces, and now he had risen through the ranks to become an ambassador. Herman turned right onto another street, and there it was. The Crown and Maple. He pushed the door open, and was greeted by the timbered hall of the Crown and Maple. His cousin was sitting at a booth by the door, with a pitcher of dark beer on the table.

"Herman! How are you? How long has it been?" His cousin grinned and gave him a bear hug.

"Not too bad. How's Cottonlay treating you?" Herman asked.

"Nothing but warm weather and clear skies. I almost feel kinda sorry for you, freezing your nuts off up north." Tobias poured Herman a glass of beer, and passed it over.

"My nuts are fine, thank you very much. Must be boring, all that office work." Herman retorted.

"It is. Signing visas, issuing replacement passports, the whole deal. I heard you took a short cruise over to Ebrilond. That country really is fucked, eh?" Herman didn't know whether Tobias had been told the full story or not, but he figured that there was no harm in telling him.

"Yeah, I took a little pleasure cruise on the Aurora Borealis down in the Indian Ocean, from Cape Town to Hobart. Operation Hudson Bay, they call it. I was in the task force that brought the Queen of Ebrilond over to New Konigstadt. The shit has really hit the fan in Ebrilond, so we're keeping her safe until she can get back home and reclaim her throne." Herman took a swig of the beer.

"I heard about the operation, but I had no idea you were in that task force. Damn! I'm glad you made it out in one piece. How did Uncle Richard ever agree to letting his precious heir on such an operation?"

"Oh, he has no idea. He thinks I went down to the Aurora, gave a speech to the crew, inspected the ship, and left. The operation was Wagner's idea. Something about me being the best marksman in the Forces."

"You know what they say about you Marines, every Marine is a sharpshooter."

"Aye, we sure are. But enough about me, what's going on with you? Anybody exciting in your life?" Herman punched his cousin's arm playfully.

"No luck so far. Why is it that the girls are all over you, but always forget about ol' Toby?"

"Maybe because marrying me comes with being Queen? Just a thought, you know." It was Herman's turn to grin.

Brimstatt Heights Community Centre, New Konigstadt, CCR, Candanadium

Mark pulled off his skates and pulled on his heavy snow boots. He had spent the afternoon playing hockey with the guys, and he was sore all over. Exams were finally over, and he had found some time to relax. He stood up and walked to the common area, where his friend Daniel was waiting. He bought a bag of chips at the vending machine, and brought them over to Daniel's table.

"What's this? Mark parting with one of his precious coins?" Daniel joked. He couldn't understand Mark's obsession with checking every single coin before spending them.

"Shut up, man. At least I got money." Daniel always piggybacked off of his friends, never willing to pay for himself. Mark ripped the bag open and popped a chip in his mouth. Out of the corner of his eye he saw someone walk in through the double doors. It was Emilia Magnar, one of his classmates. She was a distant relative to the royal family, though she was such a distant cousin that she did not have the noble "von" or "van" in her name, and though she looked nothing like the royal family, she had the same piercing pale blue eyes.

"Look who it is." Daniel muttered.

"So? What about her?"

"You really should ask her out, dude. Have you seen the way she looks at you? Plus, you ship out this September. You should really get some before you're shipped off to the middle of nowhere for four years." Mark stayed silent, though he had already made up his mind.

Later that night, Mark was in his room when his phone suddenly buzzed.

Hi, the text read. It was from Emilia. Mark's heart started racing.

Hey, he typed back. What are you up to?

Nothing much. I was just wondering if you were free this weekend?

I'm planning on going skiing. Care to join me?

Sure! When are we leaving?

How does 9 o'clock on Saturday morning sound? Mark felt so relieved that it had been so easy.

Great! See you then!
