He studied the creature he knew to be a Mantis from a distance before approaching in a friendly manner.
"Either I've made a gross misjudgement, or I've found a fellow space traveler. Greetings, my friend."
The strange man didn't look like a space traveler, that much was certain. The strange machine outside didn't look like a starship, either. The man himself didn't seem afraid of the obviously deadly Mantis, though he didn't seem oblivious either, somehow.

Kazaraakthik noticed the man approaching and retracted his claw-hands closer in to his body- mainly so that if he needed to lunge, he could attack quickly. Is this meatsack a fool? He didn’t look like the average human, but this was a strange new sector. Humans are useless. Anything they can do, another can do better. “Surprised to see a space traveller? What universe do you think this is, fleshbag?” The mantis looked him over., mandibles chittering. “What brings you to this place?”

"Hard to say. This building is something of an anomaly. When I step out the door I end up in my own world, but for you I suspect it's different. I know space travel is young in my universe, though. I assume your ships must not run on steam anymore, to say the least.
I suppose I come here to meet new people. Sometimes people want passage to other parts of the solar system. Not easy to travel like that in this part of the worldlet.
Anyway, my name's Bill."
Much of this likely didn't make a lot of sense, but if the Mantis looked around he'd probably notice that the various patrons of the saloon couldn't possibly all be from the same timeline.

“Universe? You mean...this is...gah! Wait...perhaps this is for the best. I’m sure I can surprise our enemies if we use crew they’ve never even heard of!” He clicked his mandibles together in a manner which vaguely resembled laughter. “What kind of ship runs on steam, anyway? What are you, a green gasbag in disguise? If you were, maybe you’d be useful to us. But I don’t think you are. Correct, human meatsack? This outpost is stranger than I assumed. But maybe I can use that for my benefit.”

"I'm not a Zoltan, if that's what you mean. Either way, I'm not a particular fan of fighting, even if I do have some experience in it.
As for the steam power... I could show you my craft if you wished, but I imagine you'd laugh. It's essentially a direct evolution of the steam locomotive. My world's Earth broke apart in the 1800s, and these were eventually invented to allow transport between the different worldlets that resulted."

This was starting to confuse the mantis a little. For a moment, he’d assumed this was some kind of other universe he’d stumbled into, but if the locals were familiar with the gasbags, then that wasn’t the case. Unless they’d come in on one of their pitiful scientific expeditions? “Your world sounds strange. Earth, you say...ah, the legendary home planet of you humans? Broken apart? Anyway. I am not surprised you lack the spirit of violence. But it is not a warrior we seek. It is a pilot. One to take care of our vessel while we plunder from our enemies and their shops, left empty through the power of our claws.”

"Oh, I'm more than capable of violence. It just doesn't appeal to me. Sorry to say, but I have no experience with your world's more modern ships. And if I did, I'm afraid I cannot take part in any sort of theft or murder."
He walked off to the bar, where he got himself a glass of water.

“I can’t say I’m surprised.” The mantis took a step closer. “I can’t say I’m impressed, either.” Kazaraathkik then skittered over to a nearby table and did his best to try and sit down, though due to his biology, the motion was extremely awkward. “I hope I’ll find someone worth taking here...”
