To be honest, I only heard about it thanks to the memes.

Maybe I should consider watching it. And by consider, I mean put it in the back of my mind to forget about. ;)

Apparently, an amateur/beginning swimmer should be starting with 30-minute sessions for 2 1/2 hours a week...

And I'm just here deciding "Fuck off, Imma start at 45-minute sessions for 3 hours a week!"

When I was in school I swam like a fish, won loads of swimming competitions. I gave it up for years and then briefly got back into swimming at University. Have since given it up again. The last time I went swimming properly was when I was in Muggelsee in the outskirts of Eastern Berlin, it's a freshwater lake with an artificially created beach that has been there for decades for the benefit of domestic tourists. When I went there I'm fairly certain that I was the only non-German, as it isn't really a place that international tourists go to when they visit Berlin.

Eventually being the key word. It's especially bad if you've just gotten back from a vacation on a freshwater lake.

The only problem is the risk of Swimmer's Itch when the water is contaminated with parasites. I only ever got that once when I was a child; it was one of the most unbearable sensations that I have ever experienced. The water in Muggelsee by contrast was very clean, I didn't have that problem there.
