"An active and interconnected news cycle is perhaps the greatest indicator of how realistic and alive a region is. In the real world, a trade agreement between two prominent nations, a terror attack against a civilian target, the introduction of draconian legislation, all of this has a ripple effect on the wider global community. A news thread is the best way for a region to demonstrate that it understands this truth. If a prominent leader is assassinated, for example, it is going to have implications for every other nation in Greater Olympus and as such will generate news in each of those nations." Welcome to the Greater Olympus News Cycle. If you are looking for a generic news thread this is not it. (Although we do have one of those.). The News Cycle is something else entirely.
What is the News Cycle
Every two weeks a current event is linked to the main thread containing a news article submitted and approved by an Archon. Until the next article is linked nations respond to the original story. How citizen’s go about this is up to them and is open to creativity. It may be an official response from your nation’s government, a major news broadcast, or just a simple blog post, to name a few options. Feel free to have multiple responses if the issue is contentious in your nation or if you can’t be as active that week a single response is okay, but the point is to keep posting!
Getting Started
Follow the link in the thread to this week's article and read through it. Think of how different people in your nation would respond. No nation is a monolith people interpret and see the world differently, how would this play out in your nation what would people living in the city respond vs rural, young vs old, Conservative vs Liberal. There is variety in your nation and this is an excellent way to express that. A host of factors can play into your responses as you look into a foreign nation with a foreign culture. Then think about how you want to write your response what is appropriate for a government to say vs a regular denizen of your nation or a news service. Being creative with your responses is great and hopefully, we will get a wide variety of posts to respond to.
Submitting Topics
This event is powered by the citizens of Greater Olympus to function and as such submissions are necessary to continue the system. Having a good library of articles to pull on will allow us to create a more interactive and engaging experience. As such feel free to contribute articles to the Archons. We are still thinking of how to best go about this but for now please TG them to GO Archive. After it gets approved we will try our best to tell you when it will be the event or if it will be kept for a later date. We are always looking for more stories!
