Welcome to the longest-running sports competition in NationStates!
If you're completely new here, you are eligible and highly recommended to enter the Baptism of Fire (BoF), a tournament that happens before the World Cup, as well as enter the World Cup itself. If this is your first entry into the World Cup, please indicate whether you wish to be registered for the Baptism of Fire or not.
You can register for the Baptism of Fire simply by saying, in this thread, that you want to be in it. e.g. 'I want to be in the BoF and the WC'. You can make it more polite or impressive than that, of course, or even RP the sign-up, but simply indicating you want to enter is enough.
It is highly advised that you enter the BoF before your first World Cup. This will give you an opportunity to RP in an official event with other newcomers and also gives you your first ranking points. Please also note you CANNOT enter the BoF without also entering the World Cup. Qualifying for World Cup will follow immediately from the BoF, so this thread serves as sign-ups for both tournaments at once.

Introducing: The World Cup
The Nationstates World Cup (NSWC) is a tournament for any NS nation who signs up. The NSWC is about to start its next competition, and your nation can take part! Every team is given a rank based on their performances in previous Cups, and the rank for any brand new nation is roughly 300 (the current "best team in the world" is Vilita) You can find the current, post-WC81 rankings here).
Scores are generated using 'scorinators' - usually either a Java program, an MS Excel (or similar) spreadsheet, or another custom-made program - which use random numbers, weighted by team ranking and RP bonus to produce the scores.
It is encouraged for Nations to RP - roleplay - their matches, team rosters, players and such. Good RPs will help raise your chance of winning (especially in the Baptism of Fire, the tournament for NSWC newcomers). Please note: A lot of RPs does not guarantee goals or wins, but your chances are improved of this happening. i.e. Two debutant, non-ranked, nations play each other. One has RP'd a few times, the other has not. The nation who has participated should have the better probability of victory, but still has a chance of a Win, Loss or Draw.
RPs can be team roster announcements, fan comments, press conferences, media stories, anything about the game, or even other situations, as long as you've kept to the score as posted by the host(s).

Please do not post in this thread to answer questions about sign-ups or to correct sign-ups unless you are the WCC president, WCC vice-president, a former WC host, or the current World Cup or Baptism of Fire hosts. If you are not one of the latter and post a query reply or correction, your post will be considered spam, and may bring moderator action.
As a matter of courtesy towards your fellow competitors and tournament hosts, please do not sign up a puppet 'just because you can', knowing full well that you won't have time to RP it. Entering with the best of intentions is fair enough, but if you know you won't be RPing with a nation, have a think about why you're entering them. Nations that don't participate are no fun for your fellow competitors.
