English is one of three official languages, and used in everyday life. All students are mandated to learn two of the three official languages, and English must be one of them. Thus, it is the lingua franca.

The English used here is of a New York dialect, with heavy Dutch and German influences. It utilizes American spelling and for the most part, pronunciation, but is distinct. It can be understood by Americans very easily, though.

Is one way exclusively considered the "correct" way, or are all of them acceptable? Spelling is lenient in that regard. Proper spelling is strictly enforced in schools, but it can be British or American.
