Australian Immigrants

Postby Vinala » Wed Dec 05, 2018 10:58 pm

Immigrants from Perth are flooding to Toluca and the American Federation due to the Vinalic civil war. Over 1500 of them to be exact. These Australian immigrants are introducing problems with the food supply in the American Federation specifically.

President Romero accused of embezzling disaster relief funds
Over $250 million reportedly spent on houses, yachts, luxury cars

Image
President Raul Romero in October 1989
Ciudad Beldad - A comprehensive report published today in La Estrella seems to implicate that President Raul Romero and close government allies have been embezzling national disaster relief funds to spend on a wide variety of luxury goods for personal use.

The report states that the President of Santa Rosa, as well as vice president Esteban Gayoso and economic minister Pablo Lizardo have spent an extraordinary amount of money on anything ranging from luxury import cars to beachside mansions. It also accuses VP Gayoso of buying a miniature yacht and throwing parties on it, inviting guests ranging from Puerto Rojan-based singer Paolo Skredz to the Ambassador of Grandi Alberi.

Neither Mr. Skredz or the Ambassador responded to our request for a comment.

If confirmed to be true, it would explain why the disaster relief department "ran dry on the budgetary end of things" this year, despite there being few natural disasters of costly magnitude.

Naturally, the President and his administration denied the allegations vehemently, accusing La Estrella of a left-wing bias and of coordinating a smear campaign against him.

Romero is seeking re-election for his third term in April.

Toluca FC Commissioner: "Barnetia's teams sucks" • Immigration to Texas begins slow slightly • Union Party higher-up found guilt of sexual harrassment

Parties gear up for 1990 Election Season
Following the 1990 Electoral Convention in Mexico yesterday, election season has officially kicked off. Like always, the main three parties, the Union, Liberal and National Libertarian parties announced that they will be running, as well as the more minor parties such as the Progressive Party and the Catholic Union Party.

Esteban Cicerón and Victoria Collazo still lead the Union and Liberal parties respectively, but following Isaías Sánchez's resignation in 1988, 41-year-old Emilio Santángel leads the National Libertarian Party. His age and lack of experience has put a dampen on the PLN's chances of securing either house.

Ruthless campaigning has already began. Thanks to Unicorn Shipping CEO, Enrique Carballar's generous $5 million donation, the Union Party has spared no expense with lengthy and high budget television ads. In comparison, the other parties are lacking behind. The first national debate will occur on March 28th.

The hot-topic issues during this election will be drug regulation and tourism. The Union Party wants to keep cracking down on drugs, whereas Liberal wants to regulate the drug market. Radical libertarians have even posited legalising drug cartels.

Congress initiates impeachment case against Romero
The President is embattled by accusations of embezzlement

Image
Congress of Santa Rosa
Ciudad Beldad - The Congress of Santa Rosa has passed a motion to hold a vote on the impeachment of President of the Republic Raul Romero amid accusations of his embezzlement of public funds.

Earlier this month, La Estrella published a bombshell report accusing the President and several high-ranking officials in his government of stealing money from the national disaster relief budget and spending them on luxury objects like houses, boats, and sports cars.

The President has vehemently denied all of these allegations, accusing La Estrella of treachery and refusing to step down or submit to the accusations.

The Congress voted 47 to 43 in favor of passing a motion that would guarantee on a vote on the impeachment of President Romero. Despite Romero's Liberal Republican Party controlling a majority of the seats in the legislature, some of it's members, including speaker Israel Pozo, have voted in favor of advancing the measure in favor of the "common national good."

According the Constitution, removing the president from office requires both an impeachment by the Congress and a conviction by the Constitutional Court. In order to initiate an impeachment case (which has already happened), half of the Congress must vote in favor of passing a motion to hold a vote. During that vote, two-thirds of the body must vote in favor of impeachment. Once an impeachment has been made, the Constitutional Court must vote in favor of convicting the president of the crimes and can remove him from office there.

The measure to begin the impeachment case has caused plenty of concern as the upcoming presidential election is less than three months away; Romero is seeking re-election. In the event that Romero is convicted ahead of the election, he would not necessarily be barred from the ballot. In the event that Romero wins the election but is impeached and removed from office shortly after, he would simply retake office in July.

Nonetheless, Romero is polling in the low twenties and teens, being surpassed by both Plutarco Dijker and Tito Perez, so whether he makes it to the second round of voting is low in probability.

Vice President Esteban Gayoso has also been accused of being involved in the scandal. However, Congress has yet to take any measures against him.

Ohio Primary Campaigning Begins - Candidate Profiles

With the new year and decade, comes time for another election cycle for Ohio. However, this year's is quite unlike any other before. Candidates are more outspoken and opinionated than ever, and this election seems likely to determine the future of this decade. Read on to learn about the two parties and the two candidates running for each.

      Democrat Candidates
      • Mary Steinburg
A self-described "Democratic Socialist," Steinburg is from Cleveland, most known for her time as mayor of her home town. Steinburg has consistently given praise to the government of Gettysburg and its taxation policies and social programs. As Mayor of Cleveland, Steinburg introduced a controversial taxation policy for the city which mirrored that of one from Gettysburg, particularly increasing taxes for large corporations and wealthy individuals.

      • Adam Cambre
Currently serving as a Representative for Pike State in the Ohio Congress, Cambre is a proponent for more pragmatic approaches to government reform, and already made his campaign message clear at an ODP event last week: "doing, not dreaming." Cambre's political message often implies a "Rykovian Socialist" leaning, and has often shown a fondness for the Antes Republic and it's "common sense approach to complex issues," though Cambre has never explicitly declared support of the Antean government as Steinburg has with Gettysburg.

      National Conservative Candidates
      • Jack O'Malley
O'Malley is a world-renowned businessman, owning companies which operate worldwide, and is the current CEO of the Coca-Cola Company, a Texas-based company. O'Malley is a fan of the Texan Confederacy's hands-off approach to economics, and considers himself a Libertarian. He has vowed to ease regulations on Ohioan industry and corporations, lower tax rates, and limit the government's role in the economy. O'Malley's decision to run for President has run into heavy criticism, particularly from the Democratic side of the aisle, with many seeing his bid for candidacy as just another money making opportunity for the wealthy businessman. O'Malley has dismissed these accusations, and has already vowed to resign from his CEO position if he becomes the next President.

      • Tyrone Miller
Perhaps the most moderate candidate running in this presidential election cycle, Miller is a veteran First Sergeant in the Ohioan Army. Miller has worked as the Head Ranger of Cuyahoga Valley National Park for the past 12 years, and considers protection of the environment a high priority. During an interview in early January, Miller discussed his admiration of the Great Lakes Commonwealth's more centrist government style, and emphasized that he believes active bipartisan discussion and compromise will often lead to the best solutions for the general population.

President impeached; resigns
Congress indicts Romero of embezzlement, sparking his and Gayoso's resignations

Image
Romero and Gayoso
Ciudad Beldad - Only moments after the Congress of Santa Rosa voted 61 to 29 in favor of impeaching President Raul Romero on embezzlement charges, the President and Vice President Esteban Gayoso both reluctantly resigned.

Although the impeachment does not remove him from office, and although Gayoso was not impeached, both of the men wanted to avoid a conviction during election season, choosing to step aside instead.

"It is with a heavy heart and great reluctance that I make this decision," Romero said. "For the sake of national unity and the electoral success and appeal of the Liberal Republican Party, both Vice President Gayoso and I will step aside, rather than allow this circus of a trial to drag out longer."

In accordance with the Constitution, due to both the President's and Vice President's resignation, the President of the Congress is to act as President for up to one year. As the election for President is taking place in a little over two months, Acting President Israel Pozo said that he will act for the rest of Romero's term and that the Congress will not select a replacement.

Romero and Gayoso are expected to relinquish their position on the PLR ticket for the presidential election later today, though it is unclear who will replace them.

    Yahel experiences chaos
    Image
    Riots in Riyadh

The national referendum to decide whether or not socialism would be enstated in Yahel has come and passed. Unsurprisingly to everybody, it ruled in favor of monarchy. Only 4 people out of the 21 deciding voted for socialism. In addition to this ruling, emperor Haldune III has been deemed an incompetent liege and with the help of the king of Jerusalem, has been forcibly removed from his position and the heir has taken power. The sudden and unexpected shift in power has shocked the public, but that's not the end of the chaos. The new Emperor Rajab Dajani seems to be hell-bent on removing the socialist threat. Groups are being suppressed and protests are being forcibly ended. The people are outraged and acting fast. Several once peacefull protest groups have become violent in rise of this instability and military resources are being spent to ensure the peace. The largest group, The YSM, has been reported receiving shipments of survival supplies such as bulk Texan food shipments and antibiotics.

Dijker praises Grandi Alberi dictator
The candidate's approval of General Maccheroni has alarmed many

Image
Plutarco Dijker
Ciudad Beldad - Plutarco Dijker, currently one of the frontrunners in the upcoming presidential election, has fallen trap to once another controversy after praising the dictator President of Grandi Alberi, Alberto di Maccheroni.

The comments came during an interview on TV Real, where the entrevistador posed a question about the candidate's proposed foreign policy in the western hemisphere.

"Many countries – the government ignores them on baseless measures," Dijker said. "We have nothing to lose by improving trade and relations with, say, Grandi Alberi. President Maccheroni appears to be a good fellow – he's very popular in his country and gets a lot of work done."

President Maccheroni responded to Dijker's comments, saying "Plutarco Dijker is quite honestly the best candidate for the Santa Rosan presidency. He seems to know how to govern a country. I would love to visit his beautiful country when he wins, as well as improve trade."

The Vitolian diaspora community of Santa Rosa, which consists of both Vitolians and Grandi Alberinos, has been shaken by Dijker's comment. While the group tends to lean to the left, many have come over to support Dijker.

"We love Dijker," said Stefano Pessina, don of the Ciudad Beldad Vitolian Cultural Association. "He loves the Vitolian and Alberino people. We love Dijker."

PSD candidate Tito Perez criticized Dijker's comments. "It's worrisome that a mainline presidential candidate is supporting murderous dictators," he said, adding, "We must unilaterally condemn anti-democratic despots."

When asked to clarify his position, Dijker doubled down. "I would invite Maccheroni to Ciudad Beldad and let him see the beautiful beaches and city," he said. "I hope to forge a beautiful friendship with him and his country."

This would not be the first time that Dijker has praised authoritarian rulers. In the past, he has said praise of leaders like General Bautista Ortiz, who became ruler of Santa Rosa after a coup in the 19th century and banned all political opposition.

Child Murdered by Migrant in Yahel, Sparks Outrage
      Image

A migrant to Yahel from the People's Republic of Salamut was arrested on March 22nd, following an investigation into the disappearance of 12 year old girl Saabiqa al-Sayed ended with police finding her body in the Tirtsa Reservoir. The Salamutian, Fuaad Al-Zafar, was jailed due to an anonymous tip to the local police forces. Following Al-Zafar's arrest, local media picked up the story, and stoked rage in the community against the migrant community in western Yahel. Anti-immigration groups are calling for the deportation of all Salamutian immigrants in the country, compounding already present unrest against the openly pro-immigration Monarchy in the country.

As the Yahelite government continues to crack down on pro-socialist protesters across the unstable country, the now enraged supporters of anti-immigration policy across Yahel have created an uneasy de-facto coalition with the socialist and other anti-Monarchy protest groups across Yahel.

Santa Rosa faces EMS crisis as workers strike
      Image

Emergency Medical Service workers in Santa Rosa have begun strikes across the island, creating a new crisis for the Santa Rosan government to face during it's tense lead up to the next election. Hundreds of EMS workers are demanding higher wages, safer working conditions, and up-to-date equipment, refusing to work until the government agrees to their demands. However, is currently not a single united group of EMS workers with a single list of demands. Within the past 8 hours since the strikes began, three emergency situations have gone without immediate response due to the extreme lack of EMS workers. It has not been long enough to tell what the government's response will be to this situation, however, it will undoubtedly become an issue which fuels debate around the upcoming election.

Presidential campaign enters final weeks
First round is in 12 days, second two weeks after

SANTA ROSA - The presidential election campaign is coming to a wane as the candidates try to consolidate their bases 12 days ahead of the first round.

Plutarco Dijker, who is the on-and-off front runner in the polls, has been spending his time holding massive rallies in Santa Rosa's major population centers, amassing crowds of thousands. Running with nationalist and populist rhetoric, the former businessman is wildly popular across many demographic groups, having no common trend besides their youth. The candidate is running without any party affiliation, promising fundamental political change.

Tito Perez, who has been following closely behind, has spent his time doing "town halls" across the country, meeting with local communities and addressing their concerns in a Q&A format. The strategy is not as bombastic as Dijker's, so many pollsters have credited the typically mainline Partido Social Democrático's drop in the polls to the lack of major name recognition. The candidate is running on a platform of moderate social reform, promising to roll back the war on drugs and promote new development in the rural areas of the country.

Israel Pozo, the replacement Partido Liberal Repúblicano candidate, initially polled higher than the now-resigned Raul Romero, but has since fallen to marginally low popularity after is government's failure to address the EMS strike crisis. Pozo is both the Acting President of Santa Rosa and the President of the Congress, so he has dedicated little time to actually campaigning. Most pollsters are ruling out any possibility of Pozo making it to the second round, which would be a crushing defeat for the PLR, who has held the Congress and Presidency for the past eight years.

Imani Crespo Cruz, the leader of the communist Movimiento Obrero de Liberacíon y Adelanto Nacional (MOLAN), has mostly been campaigning in poor and black areas of Santa Rosa. He offers an anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist platform. Imani is considered mostly a fringe candidate with a small but dedicated base, though many are afraid of the MOLAN taking arms due to increasing racial pressure in the country.

The first round of the presidential election will take place on April 20. If no candidate secures more than 50% of the vote, the run-off between the top two will take place on May 4. The winner is inaugurated in July later this year.

Perez and Dijker win first round
The two candidates will face off in the runoff in two weeks

SANTA ROSA - The Constitutional Council has published the results of the first round of the 1990 presidential election and both Tito Perez (PSD) and Plutarco Dijker (independent) won the most votes, bringing them into the runoff on May 1.

Perez won the most votes, totaling 2.63 million voters, or 32.92% of the electorate. Dijker won 2.62 million votes (32.75%). Imani Crespo Cruz (MOLAN) came in third place with 19.23% and Israel Pozo (PLR) suffered a major loss with only 10.64% of the vote.

As per Santa Rosan law, if one candidate fails to secure a majority of the votes in the first round, a second round will take place two weeks later between the two most-voted-for candidates in the first. The runoff is the first in decades that doesn't feature both PSD and PLR candidates, and Plutarco Dijker is the first independent to win the first round since Juan David Beldad, the first President of Santa Rosa.

The next two weeks will be rather contentious, and most pollsters are unable to predict who will be able to win the upcoming vote.

      Commercial flight declared missing

      Image

      Toncontin Int'l Airport in Barnetia

Avianca Airlines flight BN47, which was scheduled to land 12 hours ago, has been declared missing by Avianca authorities. The flight's intended route was from Tegucigalpa, Barnetia, to Philadelphia, Gettysburg, and had a passenger count of 76, made up mostly of Gettysburgan tourists returning home. The last known position of the flight was north of Havana, Toluca, implying the plane disappeared somewhere over the straits of Florida or possibly over the Texan Confederacy. No report of the aircraft's location has been released regarding the flight from the Texan Confederacy, however, leading to speculation over what might have happened to the flight.

Avianca Airlines CEO Alejandra Torres has stated that the company is launching a full scale investigation into the disappearance, and is hoping to work with government agencies to solve the issue. Tito Perez elected president
The PSD candidate narrowly beat out opponent Plutarco Dijker

Image
Tito Perez
SANTA ROSA - The Constitutional Council has declared, with 96.5% of precincts reporting, that Tito Pérez Peña has been elected President of Santa Rosa with 50.4% of the vote.

After Tito Perez and Plutarco Dijker (independent) ranked the highest in the first round (but neither failed to achieve a majority), the two faced off in the second round yesterday, and Perez narrowly secured a majority of the votes.

In his victory speech, he said that Dijker called him to concede the election and wished him the best. Perez also promised to "serve the people of Santa Rosa" and "heal the nation."

The center-left president-elect was Mayor of Ciudad Beldad, the capital city of Santa Rosa, for the past 8 years.

Plutarco Dijker, who only narrowly missed the victory, has promised to "return" and that he will be working behind the scenes for the next four years to rally support for his "popular cause."

Perez will be inaugurated before Congress on July 20 of this year.

Polls place Union Party ahead • "Our research concludes the Barnetia is infact, gay." - Census Bureau • Ciceron under fire for not knowing the capital of Santa Rosa

Officials finally touch on Avianca Airlines Flight BN47
After AA BN47 disappeared over Tolucan airspace, the Coast Guard rushed to the Straits of Florida to search for the plane. The plane, carrying roughly 76 passengers, was en route from Tegucigalpa, Barnetia to Philadelphia, Gettysburg.

15 days later, President Ciceron has finally responded onbehalf of the government.
Witnesses on boats and naval stations around the Straits have helped paint a somewhat clearer picture of what happened on the 22rd of April.

Many say they heard the plane crash into the water, while many report not seeing a any plane. What we do now for certain is that the plane did infact disappear over either Cuba or the Straits of Florida. This is evident from a lack of Texan witnesses but a myriad of Tolucan ones.

The Coast Guard has found pieces of metal in the straits which could potentially match the metal the plane is made out of. Reportedly, the findings have been sent to a forensics lab in Havana.

Aside from that, almost nothing has been found regarding the missing jet.

Director of the Department of Security, Emilia San Martín, has made it very clear that they and the coast guard, are willing to work with corporations and other nations excluding Barnetia.

We don't know the nature of the disappearance, and as such we are not willing to work with Barnetia. They pose a security threat.

    The Rise and Fall
    Image
Armed forces in the hostile takeover

The militarised groups have shown that they are not messing around. After several conflicts with law enforcement and military personnel, the YSM turned its priorities towards the most vital point in Yahel. Jerusalem. The YSM was able to remove Muhammad Al-Habibi from power in the designated Kingdom of Jerusalem and set up their own faux rule over the area. Royal forces are reluctant to advance in fear of harming the holy land. The YSM is requesting recognition from socialist nations in an attempt force the monarchy's hand. In other news the Monarchy has dispatched forces to secure oil pumps and resume production. Monarchy forces are suffering extreme atrophy due to the lack of funds and abundance of strikes across the nation.

State Committee Debates Recognizing New Gov'ts
      Image
Jerusalem, currently held by the YSM

After a long period of silence on the subject from the government, the State Committee of Pavlovsk has voted in favor of recognizing the People's Republic of Songjiang as the legitimate government of Songjiang. The State Committee has begun debate on whether to recognize the Yaheli Socialist Movement's request for recognition as the legitimate government of Yahel, however, no vote has taken place yet.

Regardless, Secretary General Gorbachad has invited the leaders from the Antes Republic, Carpathia, Great Britannia, the new government of Songjiang, and the leaders of the YSM to a week-long summit in Chekhov for diplomatic discussions. The invitation to the YSM gives the implication that the Secretary General would like to see the YSM recognized.

Bureau of State Security Begins Large Scale Fraud Investigation

      June 17, 1990

      Image

After Director of the BSS, Albert Luciano, conducted an independent probe into a recent cash influx into the Miller campaign the BSS has received approval to investigate recent large contributions into all campaigns involved in the presidential election. Ohio law forbids donations, electoral propaganda, and voter influencing from all foreign nations, corporations, and independent citizens. Should a candidate or their staff be caught knowingly accepting foreign aid, they and anyone else directly involved stand to face 4 years in a federal prison under conspiracy charges.

Director Luciano has publicly stated that so far there is no evidence of foreign involvement in the Miller campaign, nor any other campaign under investigation. Though he did comment that, "campaign spending is estimated to be 70% higher than the last election cycle."

BREAKING NEWS alert from Katrina News!

President Hoover claims another victory during his sixth year as president. While speaking to the nation today the president said the following!

"My fellow Aliciams, We are looking at a new Horizon! Our friends to the South deserve our support when it comes to their claim on Malta and they will get it!"

The President also outlined plans for new oil to be coming into the country at the start of the new year as well as mentioned the recent congressional vote on raising the military budget. The house voted 126-74 and the Senate agreed with 62-38. Two more votes than needed!

The president also revealed the nations plan to set sail its first carrier in June of 1992 but failed to disclose the cost of such a project.

Critics of the President have stated this recent urge to increase recruitment and military spending is a stunt to get himself re-elected in December of 1991. Senator Bowman was the main voice. Despite the critics, recent polls taken across the country show the presidents tactics are working with recruitment stations filling up and his approval rating sitting at 55%

Dijker forms new political party
The former candidate's National Democratic Party will contend in local and national elections

Image
Plutarco Dijker
Ciudad Beldad - Plutarco Dijker has formally filed to create his own political party today, with the electoral commission accepting the application.

Dijker ran as an independent in the previous two elections, amassing an increasingly large base. Running on populist and nationalist rhetoric, the former businessman capitalized off of the voters who felt the mainstream parties were too centrist or corrupt.

Now, Dijker's Partido Democrático Nacional (National Democratic Party) will serve as a political machine for the former candidate's ideology. Dijker already stated that he intends to seek suitable candidates for the future elections down the line in order to challenge the mainstream parties.

"We created a movement this year," Dijker said, "and I don't intend to let it die out. We will take power and retain it."

BN47 dubbed "Barnetian Conspriracy" • Overweight man found dead from Texan food • Director of Defence resigns after goat sexually assualts him

      "Made in Toluca"
As part of the Union Party's 10 Year Plan, the "Make in Toluca" initiative and accompanying schemes and bills has been passed through the Chamber of Representatives and the National Assembly. Director of Finance for the Union Party, Vanessa Juderías, has detailed the main goals of the plan.
The initiative's primary goal is bring over 57.5 million people out of poverty by providing work to every person possible. If more and more people have money in their pocket, we can expect a rise in spending and as such, a rise in the overall size and quality of the economy. This plan will also establish Toluca as a formidable nation economically.

But what will the plan actually do?

Parliament has also pushed through incentives for foreign corporations to build factories and stores in Toluca. Professor Jesús Gisbert of the University of Havana has stated that "Toluca has a huge untapped labour market that foreign corporations absolutely must tap into." Juderías has specifically invited companies like Texan Coca-Cola and Pavlovski Pepsi, but also said that any foreign corporation is welcome in Toluca.

In accordance with the recently passed legislature, it is now far easier to set up factories in Toluca. Juderías hopes this allows foreign corporations to flock to Toluca as a cheap source of labour.

This might be the beginning of an era in which Toluca is a respected economic power like it's American counterparts where everything in your house might have "Made in Toluca" on the bottom.

      In other news...

Worth of 45 million Tolucan pesos, Drug Lord Diego Dávalos has supposedly escaped to Barnetia, with drugs in toe. Federal Police Commissioner Édgar Leguizamo has stated that should Barnetia not extradite him to Toluca or allow Toluca to conduct operations in Barnetia, harsh actions will follow.

      Nebraska Crackdown, Federal Cruelty?
      Image

A Decade ago, the New Minutemen Movement was born in North Dakota and originally had a large presence there due to protests over government and corporate abuses against workers. But over the years, it has fallen underground in the Dakotas due to heavy crackdowns from the Federal government, and it has since moved south into the agricultural heartland of the Federation. The NMM (New Minuteman Movement) has maintained a presence in the Southeast until now. A recent Federal crackdown on the NMM in Nebraska has begun, with a number of reported Federal troops occupying cities in Nebraska, National Guard depots being seized, as well as a number of dead Nebraskan Guards. This should make the reader ask; what right do the Federals have to treat us like we are foreigners, like the Texans or Pacificans?
