The fact that a company will be able to wait 3 years before paying the overtime is dodgy as fuck, as there is a risk that A: the company may go bust, B: that the company may conveniently "forget" or "misplace" the paperwork related to the hours worked, and C: the employee may leave and start work for a different company, making it more difficult to get what is owed.

Oh, and of course you'd find entirely normal to have your wage postponed by three years.

Wow! An extra day at most on the work week. This is obviously comparable to having no rights and being transported across the ocean in a cramped ship and then worked for no pay whatsoever.

Defeating the elites by giving them evven more control over the lives of ordinary people. Yup, sounds like right wing populism.

Nope. I mean, people often struggle each month to get their employer to pay their overtime; can you imagine how much more difficult it'd be if there was a 3 year gap between doing the work and trying to get paid for it? The law just sounds as if it is setting out to make it easier for the overtime pay to slip through the net...

I'm sure Hungarian landlords, banks, and utilities providers will be only too happy to push their bills back three years until their customers finally get their overtime pay.

And I'm sure that companies will pay additional interest on the wages and go out of their way to track down temporary staff from 3 years ago.

It gets better. The amount of overpay you get will be "hours worked in total - contract hours total in the 3 year period".

That means that if in the 3 year period you have taken a few weeks of unpaid leave those weeks will also be deducted from your overpay.

New rules mean companies can demand up to 400 hours of overtime a year and delay payment for it for three years.

The word "demand" doesn't look much like the word "voluntary" to me...

It wasn't so much to do with over time, but about the fake democracy, which is what the conversation was more geared for at the beginning.

I demand you, The New California Republic, to log off of NationStates and never log back on again. Will you? No. Because doing so is voluntary, whether or not I demand it. The use of the word "demand" is loaded to get a particular reaction. And it worked.

PS I wasn't flamming when I told you to never log back on, it was just an example.

The existence of the negative consequence coupled with our actions doesn't negate how voluntary our actions are. You can choose to disobey your boss. If you don't do what (s)he says, they don't want you around. Simple as that.

The difference here is that you don't really have leverage over me. If my refusal to log out had consequences related to my employment, then that demand very much would be different from volunteering to log out and never log back in again.

I'm sure most Hungarians don't care, because unlike the West, almost everybody in Hungary is a freehold homeowner.

Utilities such as electricity which is just 11 cents per kwh, one third less than in Germany and half of Portugal?

And do you really think the economic situation in Hungary is so precarious that people work overtime to pay for things like electricity and rent? lmao
