For years, since that fateful day in 1998 when the earth under Tokyo split and strange things were let loose into our world. Most that arrived were peaceful, and just wanted to live their lives like the humans who now lived besides them. But like all intelligent beings, not everyone was good, and some spirits, the ones we call Demons, were after power. And with the coming of dangerous, violent and manipulative demons, there had to be a coming of equally dangerous, violent and manipulative people to take them on. However, this was a new threat, no one knew how to fight them, and there was little to no regulation. The police were largely ineffective, and as the demons spread across the world, many people took it upon themselves to protect themselves and their own neighborhoods, towns and communities. And with this, a business formed. The Hunters Guilds, collectives of people who trained as the mercenary's that fought and killed demons, popped up in almost every major city the world over. And bigger cities often would have five or more. They developed their own subculture, one that was obsessed with cars, punk rock, rap, and ancient swords of myth. Every Hunter dreamed of managing to acquire a legendary, mythological sword. Especially after it was revealed that a hunter in London had actually managed to acquire Excalibur.
But, not all were equal. Some cities were cleaner than others, and as a result there was less need to Hunters there. Most would travel as needed, until they found a Guild where their help would actually be needed. Where jobs were plentiful, and were that money flowed like water. It was cities like L.A., New York, London, Johannesburg, Rio De Janeiro and Beijing where the largest Hunters Guilds formed. But no city was ever able to top Tokyo. The place where the spirits first emerged into the world, was widely regarded as the Hunters Mecca. It was the place where people and spirits lived in both the most harmonious situation, and also the most conflicted one. Demons ran rampant, and it became the place where Hunters from all over the world congregated, dreaming of being the next on on the news for defeating a powerful demon. It changed from a city of technological innovation and neon to a city of surrealism and bizarre occurrences. And for a city that was already considered just a little strange, the spirits only amplified it.
So now you, the young brave Hunters, come to this city from afar. All across the world, or possibly from right here in Tokyo, you and your peers come to this Mecca to cut your teeth and prove yourselves. There are guilds all across the city to choose from, but how can you make your name known in a well established Guild with hundreds of Hunters? Together with the others players, you will form a small, independent Guild, and work to carve out your place in the often hectic, surreal and dangerous world of Hunters. Be a you a seasoned veteran, doing this since 1998, or a young kid determined to get the respect and honor you know you are deserving of. But no matter what, in this little Guild you will build, there is something else going on in the sewers beneath Tokyo, something that the bigger guilds don't want to acknowledge. Something that only you and your new peers will have to fight, and will have to fight alone.
Hello And Welcome
Hi all, and welcome to my RP. As the Introduction probably informed you, this RP is about Demon Hunters, or Hunters as they are more colloquially referred to, as they try and make their names known in the world of Hunting. The idea for this RP came to me through a series of places, but most notably my interest in much of the things that are important to the Demon Hunter subculture in this world. That is to say, punk rock, rap music, fast cars, Japanese mythology and the artwork of Wizzadaking and Mau Lencinas (also known as 199Hates.) Its a pretty eclectic selection of interests, but thats kind of the idea. The world that our characters inhabit is supposed to be one that is surreal and strange. Its supposed to be the kind of thing where you could be walking down the street, and see a group of young people standing on the corner flipping through their phones and swapping stories. At first glance, you think nothing of it. Just kids doing what they do. But on second glance, there is something off. There is blood on one guys Adidas sweatshirt. Another has a two swords in his belt like a samurai, the sheath decked out in stickers like a skateboard. And the third has two demonic heads, still dripping blood onto the concrete slung over their shoulder. That's the sort of world we are working in, one where the average sights of the city, like neon lights, honking horns, and wannabe rappers meets ancient religious demons, who haunt the sewers and abandoned buildings, trying to lure mortals to their deaths. Its the kind of world where you wander into the local 7/11, but behind the counter is a Zashiki-warashi, the Japanese house spirits. Or the man who sells your a new car is seen at the bar later that night sipping on a glass of synthetic blood, his vampire fangs glinting in the late night lighting. And of course, that brings us back to you. Not all of the inhabitants of this world are peaceful, both mortal and spirit. Some are dangerous, and so you must hunt them. After all, the world needs bad people. They keep the worse people at bay.
Rules
I'm sorry, but we have to have some rules. Don't worry, I wont make anything to outrageous.
1. We will operate on a strike system, like its baseball. 1 strike against you, and you will just receive a warning. 2 strikes, and you will receive a second warning and be asked to not respond for a day. A 3rd strike, and I will ask you to leave the RP, your character will be taken under my control and I will find a way to get rid of them so they don't clog up the RP. That said, I don't like to think of myself as harsh or unfair, so if you think a strike I gave you is unfair, please feel free to PM me and Ill be more than happy to discuss it with you. If you make a good point, I will rescind the strike.
2. Most obvious of all, don't be a dick. While IC is one thing, if we are OOC and you have a problem with someone else, keep it cordial. Debate and discussion is fine, but once insults are being thrown around then it becomes a problem. Just treat OOC with the Golden Rule, and treat others how you want to be treated. If it would hurt your feelings, or make you angry, then you are better off just not saying it, unless you want a strike.
3. Don't godmod, don't metagame. No one likes that guy, so don't be that guy.
4. Please remain active. In this RP, active means maintaining your presence in OOC with at least one post a day, and at least one post in IC every two days, so that we know you are still around. If a week goes by with no obvious presence from you, your character will become NPC for a second week with I or my Co-OPs controlling them. If after this second week you are not back, your character will be gotten rid of in some way and you will have to create a new character if you wish to rejoin. That said, if there is a real reason why you wont be able to be around, just send me a TG or say something in the OOC before you become inactive, so we know what happened to you and know that you will eventually be back.
5. While this RP has the potential to get a little dark, don't let that go overboard. We are not trying to make this RP completely clean and sanitary, it is at its core kind of a crazy and violent theme/story. But if something you are doing seems to be only disturbing for the sake of shock value, you will have earned yourself a strike.
6. There is an expectation of some post quality. That is to say, try and make each of your posts be at least five sentences long. If you are in dialogue, then it can be forgiven, but otherwise please try and keep your posts a single paragraph long.
