First time you used Internet

Postby Sanhei » Fri Dec 07, 2018 8:42 am

I'm gonna ask a few questions,

When was the first time you've started using the internet?

What do you usually do at that period with the Internet?

First time getting hacked / a negative comment?

You could give more information about yourself and your history with the internet more if you want to.

Let's start with me.

I started in 2008

I usually in newgrounds seeing animations and playing RPG games at that time

Some guy rants on me about kids like me and stuff on yahoo answers when I asked if herobine is real or not. First time getting hacked was my roblox account through a script that I didn't noticed while using roblox studio. I never really played roblox anymore since it has gotten worse

I predate the internet.

WAIS and downloads from BBS's, mostly mail and hacking tools.

I dont do that anymore.

First Time:Barely remember, but the first memory of it is a friend showing my LEGO stopmotion animations on YouTube. Had to be better part of 14-15 years now (I was born at the niche time when I existed before stuff like this was mainstream, but also got to use it ASAP)

What did you do:I strongly recall a lot of YouTube searching, Club Penguin and Poptropica. I can’t remember if it’s in that order, but you get the gist.

Hacked/Negative Comment:I have not been hacked yet, given I’m paranoid af when it comes to sketchy things on the internet. Been a few times I’ve nearly downloaded malware, but caught it just in time.

As for first negative comment, I made this really funny (read:lame) post on a Minecraft YouTube video that got a lot of likes. Someone made a sassy comment on it and I cried.

I was 8 then, give me a break.

I typed the phrase, "Am I on the internet?" I was, of course, but it was the kind you didn't need a browser for. I still don't know how I got there or where I was, but they people there told me what a browser was and I downloaded one, my first download, and I got on the internet. Then got off, because it was early enough that 'browser' wasn't a common thing and the internet was kind of just shitty.

I was 10, only used it to browse sites recommended for kids like Nickelodeon, Fact Monster, etc. I tried to look for interesting videos like the one about surfing mice in YouTube, but I found it (the site) boring. (I was into reference books and magazines then, hence not needing the World Wide Web.) Then I stopped using the Internet for the next 2 years since we had no connection of our own. I became a regular Internet user when I turned 13.

Never experienced getting hacked so far. The first negative comment...well, I cannot remember.

I was around 11, I believe. I only got the taste of internet in 2006, when browser games were in the rage. Before 2006 were pre-Internet days for me, when I were playing single-player games such as Far Cry 1, Rise of Nations, the works...

Flash games, with questionable advertisements on the side, asking if I would like to flirt with single ladies. :P My parents were pretty chilled out about it and didn't mind because "Nah, just don't click on it. I know you are there just for the games."

First case of being "hacked" was malware, actually. Downloaded quite a lot of games and stuff that I definitely should not, and to the surprise of no one, most of these files and things are riddled with such malware. It took a factory reset to get rid of the infection.

I first logged onto the internet on the 18th of October 1995, almost certainly, which definitely has nothing to do with the fact that Mr Tin got one of those clunky Windows 95 contraptions "for my birthday" that day (we ended up both using it for a good six-and-a-half years), or that I occasionally dabbled in Usenet for about a year or so previously. Alas, for most of those early days, I was wasting my time on AOL, MSN, etc. and reading the then-revolutionary Electronic Telegraph to make much sense of anything else!
No haxx0rs so far for either of us, thank goodness. People definitely started slinging virtual mud in my direction around November or December '95, generally merited for supporting the Tories and privatisation (I seem to remember somebody asking me "Are you Thatcher in disguise?" or something like that a while down the line), although I don't know who or what exactly in any case... understandably, it's been a quarter of a century :P

Crimes committed by Muslims will be proof of a pan-Islamic plot and Islam's inherent evil. On the other hand, crimes committed by non-Muslims will merely be the acts of mentally ill lone wolves who do not represent their professed belief system at all.
The probability of someone secretly participating in homosexual acts is directly proportional to the frequency and loudness of their publicly professed disapproval and/or disgust for homosexuality.

I don't know when I first actually used it, probably playing games with my sister over dial-up aged about 3.
Used it on my own I would have been around 6.

I think I first started using the Internet around 2002. I frequented the games sections on LEGO.com and Cartoon Network.com. I also fondly remember looking up a Braille alphabet so I could decipher the messages to unlock Regirock, Regice, and Registeel In Pokemon Sapphire.
I was always too anxious to download anything so I didn’t get hacked or anything back then.

Geez... It must've been around 2008/9. I mostly went on sites like Newgrounds and Cartoon Network and stuff to play games. I only really have bad memories of that time, honestly.

For me, it was back in 1996, and I was using a Pentium 133MHZ processor, Windows 95 OS, over a 56K Baud internal modem, using Juno as my ISP, I got 60 hours of internet per month free. I later upgraded my processor to a 166MHZ, and got Juno unlimited for $60 a month. Six years later, I dropped Juno for Comcast (At Home) High Speed Internet, which was the first broadband internet available, in 2002.

At the time, I was playing games that required an internet connection to play with other players, check email, and acquire new software.

You ventured into the hentai part of Newgrounds didn't ya?
What would things have been like if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive? Or if during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? The Organs would quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!

Probably finding answers to some puzzle on the Sierra On-Line website or GameFAQs. Though I do remember downloading custom maps for RollerCoaster Tycoon in early 2000-2001.

Back in 2003 my school got a computer, and on a free day I made it so that it would say "You Are Fat" when it turned on. No one fixed that to my knowledge.
