The Valkyrie-Class Littoral Combat Ship is a line of littoral combat frigates aimed for the replacement of missile craft, corvettes, minesweepers and smaller frigates in conventional navies. Although originally designed for littoral warfare in both friendly and enemy waters, it is also capable of carrying out oceanic missions should the need ever rise. With a design philosophy geared towards elusiveness, speed and versatility, the Valkyrie-Class is the solution to fill the gap between brown-water navies and blue-water navies.
With considerations that it would operate near the enemy's coast, the design of the Valkyrie-Class is geared towards minimizing detection by enemy assets, mostly by enemy radars and infra-red searchers. For this reason, the Valkyrie-Class was designed with a stealthy catamaran hull, concealing most weapons in vertical launch systems and stealth covers for most turrets. Its unique catamaran hull, coupled with water-jet propulsion, also minimizes contact beneath the waves, at an attempt to decrease chances of being downed by enemy submarines.
Although primarily equipped with 64 VLS cells, a 127 mm main gun and a missile-gun composite CIWS, the Valkyrie-Class, as a littoral combat ship, is also capable of being fitted with multi-mission modules to add to its versatility. The surface warfare module includes the addition of two 30 mm autocannons, eight more anti-ship missile launchers and combat systems against boats, while the anti-submarine warfare module features additional lightweight torpedoes, towed array sonars and an unmanned surface vehicle for naval operations. The minesweeper module consists of underwater towed sonars specifically developed for mine detection, mine countermeasures and a handful of unmanned mine-hunting kamikaze vehicles. Independent from the modules, the catamaran hull allows for a larger helicopter deck compared to ships of comparable size, capable of supporting a larger number of air assets given the situation.
