Marksman role has been closed for the time being.

EDIT: Also, hope you don't mind Kass, but I'm taking a few liberties with magic in my post. Nothing major, just the effects of incantation and such.

Biography:Henry was born to a near illiterate family of Portuguese Hawaiian pineapple cannery workers and sugar plantation workers. His Portuguese side labored in the hot sun, while his Hawaiian side hunted, planted kalo and collected coconuts. He, of course, chose to live with his aunties and uncles. He spent his formative years planting kalo, learning to hunt, and picking tropical fruit from the trees. He worked hard, not just physically, but academically. He was the only one of his five brothers and three sisters to graduate from high school.

He joined up with the U.S. Army, where he fought in the Tet Offensive. He fought in two tours, this last one he got transferred to his latest platoon, seeing as he was the only one to survive a particularly harsh Viet-Cong ambush. This latest scene in the tragedy that is his life pits him in an entirely different world, where he will have to choose between the lives of his men, and the stability of his already shaky moral compass.

Personality: Normally reserved, but enjoys a good conversation with his men. He also has a thirst for women, and will hit on them whenever he gets the chance.

Accepted into Bandit. Feel free to post in the IC and get up to speed, as of right now just waiting on one person in particular before we carry on.

Additionally, NUC, that's not a First Sergeant in the Mess Hall, it's a Sergeant First Class, basically the Platoon Sergeant for Bandit.

More players is always nice. I'm not sure for exact specifics, you'd have to get Kass' opinion on that, but at the moment we lack a GPMG or rather someone to lug around an M60. We technically have someone with a Stoner, but that's only 5.56 and we'll need a more powerful round for where we're going...I think we might also need an AT guy, though I could be wrong. Not sure how our M67 Operator is doing

I can do the M60 position, but do you guys mind if I have an assistant and ammobearer npc with me? Realistically my character could carry the M60, a sidearm, the rest of the regular gear (e-tool, knife, notebook, flak vest, helmet, etc) and at most 1000 rounds of ammunition in those 200 round belts in the bandoliers and the 100 round belts in those cardboard boxes. The M122 tripod (kinda a good thing to have considering we’re facing large and rather tight infantry formations) and the rest of the thousands of rounds of ammo needed for an effective crew-served weapon like the M60 would have to be carried by others.

Name|Rank|Role: Ethan David Paine | Corporal (Cpl.) | General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) Team Lead

Age|Height|Weight: 22 Years Old | 6’2” | 180 Ibs

D.O.B|Birthplace|Nationality 02/16/1949 | Rutland, Vermont, USA | American

Sex|Sexuality: Male | Heterosexual

Appearance Image & Description:
Image

Biography: Born in February of 1949 to David Paine, a WWII Army Veteran who’d fought from North Africa to Germany, and Monika Wojewoda Paine, a Polish Nurse David had met in Italy during the campaign there before marrying after the end of WWII. Ethan was the eldest of four children, with two younger sisters and a younger brother following in that order. Ethan and his siblings were able to live in relative comfort, his mother being a nurse at the local hospital and his father being one of Rutland County’s Sheriff’s Deputies meant that the two parents made a respectable living for themselves and their children, and although they weren’t rich the Paine family were never left wanting for life’s necessities. Growing up, Ethan was noted for having a very strong independent streak, always causing trouble for authority figures in school with pranks, skipping classes that didn’t interest him, and other shenanigans. Despite this Ethan did relatively well in school, his independent streak’s consequences being tempered somewhat by a burgeoning intellect that favored History, English, and Science Classes.

Because of this intellect it was expected that Ethan would go to university, the first in his family’s history, and he’d even looked into the local military university in Northfield called Norwich University. However, after finishing high school classes in mid-1967, the Paine family was thrown through a loop when Ethan enlisted in the Army instead at the age of 17. Without warning or reason Ethan had bid his family goodbye and went off for training, although he wouldn’t explain his reasons to his family for another year Ethan had joined alongside a best friend (William “Bill” Talwick) who couldn’t afford university and so sought to enlist rather than be drafted and forced into a unit outside of his choice. The two friends had been inseparable during their early years and so, out of a sense of loyalty to his friend, and the already burgeoning patriotic feelings within his heart…Ethan signed the dotted line alongside his friend. The next few months were a blur of boot camp, and specialization training in both the use of the M60 GPMG and how to act as Air Cavalry forces.

After training, Ethan was assigned as an M60 Gunner and Bill his assistant in the 1st Cavalry Division in late 1967. This was to be a fateful deployment as the 1st Cavalry were currently stationed in Vietnam and in little over a month, on January 30th of 1968, the Battle of Hue began alongside the rest of the nationwide Tet Offensive by VC and PAVN forces. By February 2nd both Ethan and Bill were to take part in operations to cut off the enemy supply line into the city of Hue while the Marines did their best to root out the Communists within the city proper. During his first combat experience Ethan secured fourteen confirmed kills and another two-dozen probable throughout the counter-attack, at one point holding a position single-handedly for several hours as the rest of his squad was rendered combat ineffective due to casualties and the nearest reinforcements were bogged down by resistance behind Ethan’s position. That act of heroism would earn Ethan the Bronze Star, alongside a slew of other medals and commendations related to combat in a foreign theater.

Bill, who was gravely wounded during the fighting, had been sent back stateside for medical treatment and Ethan would not see him again for three years as he was assigned to a new unit after recovering from his injuries. Ethan himself would be shifted about over the next two years, seeing occasional combat but nothing as serious as Hue, just enough to net another two confirmed kills and half a dozen probable. However, in 1970, Ethan was assigned to an Air Cav Battalion outside of Da Nang. During a routine patrol alongside a mechanized unit Ethan found himself and his fellow soldiers ambushed by PAVN troops who’d crossed from Cambodia to the West, the ensuring battle was fierce and eerily reminiscent of Ethan’s first battles in Hue, as the two sides sought to destroy each other in standard conventional combat. Early in the ambush Ethan caught grenade fragments in his left leg and hip, the rest being caught by his flak jacket, yet despite this Ethan continued on after injecting his morphine shots into his bloodstream. The morphine dulled the pain enough for Ethan to continue to fight on through the grueling four-hour firefight, eventually being bandaged by a fellow soldier as he poured effective and consistent fire in the direction of muzzle flashes.

Despite taking a concussion from shrapnel hitting his M1 Helmet, Ethan fought alongside his fellow soldiers with his M60 until he ran out of barrels that could effectively be used, being forced to employ a wounded man’s M16A1 in the dwindling stages of the firefight. By the end of the battle Ethan had added another six confirmed kills with perhaps another two-dozen probable, the PAVN forces withdrawing with their dead making the counting difficult for intelligence analysts afterwards. Earning the Purple Heart and Army Commendation Medal for his actions, Ethan would be sent back home to rest and heal, eventually being stationed Stateside as the war in Vietnam drew down thanks to Nixon’s policy of “Vietnamization”. In early 1971 Ethan was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal for three years of distinguished service and promoted from Specialist to Corporal, upon receiving both promotion and medal Ethan began to have thoughts on leaving after his enlistment ended next year, due in equal parts to missing the rush he felt in combat that he likely wouldn’t see again and growing agitation with an ever more centralized US Government which started to look more and more authoritarian to the Corporal as it pursued greater power, a “War on Drugs”, and other measures that Ethan found questionable. However, the disillusioned soldier found a new call to duty soon after when a magical gate opened up in a small city in Kansas and an army of pseudo-romans charged through, killing and destroying everything in their way until the US military responded with such overwhelming force that the enemy was forced back. Ethan’s fury at the unprovoked attack forced his hand, he immediately volunteered to be transferred to the new fight that was brewing in Kansas, and his requests were granted in the form of a transfer to the 97th Mechanized Infantry.

Now only time will tell what new adventures Ethan will face in the new world that awaits beyond the Gate.

Personality: Somewhat wary of all authority figures, Ethan is a natural rebel, seeking to forge his own path and do what he sees as right even if others disagree. Forged in the fires of Vietnam Ethan is stoic, attempting to tamp down on his emotions in regular every-day life, though his emotions seemingly run wild and intense when in the fires of combat. Intensely political, Ethan is independent of both parties, levelling each with equal amounts skepticism and distaste. This isn’t to say he’s paranoid, cynical, or anti-social, Ethan’s well known to converse and socialize with his fellow soldiers, and in more than a few instances he’s been known to pass around cigarettes to those who are without in order to boost morale on long patrols or missions. As such Ethan is best described as stoic, approachable, and a bit of a big-brother figure to the less experienced troops, while at the same time being a pain in the ass for any officers above him and the bane of all those who don’t favor historical or political conversations with very opinionated soldiers carrying a machine gun.

Biography: Randall Cooper was born in October 13th, 1950 to Eugene Cooper and Sally Holt Cooper. His family, by no means rich, weren't living off of scraps as his parents run a relatively popular bakery called Cooper's Donuts, allowing the family to afford some luxuries such as quality education for Randall and his older sister. Growing up in a devout Catholic household of four in San Diego, Cooper was influenced by the morals and values instilled by his parents and it was because of his mother, who is a very devout Catholic, that he carries a small pouch of rosary beads with him wherever he goes.

During his youth, he has been labeled as an above average student, not the top scorers in his grade but certainly not having the risk of dropping out. His teachers mentioned that while Randall was a good kid who barely gets in trouble, they noted that he never seems to be too engaged in academic, mostly completing the standard and not going higher. He was compared to his older sister, who was seen as academically gifted but the comparison never really bothered him; he's not the type to learn much from sitting in a chair during lectures while taking notes. His main interests lies more in helping out his dad's restaurant; waking up at the crack of dawn to help his father prepare some muffins and donuts for the morning rush and heading home after school to sell sandwiches to the school kids. Although his parents wanted him to attend college, like his sister who's currently attending Yale; they know that he would be the one who would inherit Cooper's Donuts. Still, he was able to keep his grade up and was accepted at the newly formed UC San Diego and made plans to attend the university after graduation and to settle down with a nice lady and help his father's donut shop.

Things changed in 1969 when he was drafted to the United States Armed Forces during America's involvement in this country called Vietnam in a middle of a civil war. As morbid as it sounds, Cooper was actually kind of relieved about the draft. The Cooper family had a long line of veterans and almost every men served in the United States Armed Forces starting with his great-grandfather Joseph Cooper, who lost a leg fighting for the Union cause during the Civil War. His grandfather, Philip Cooper, was part of the American Expeditionary Force in the Great War and Eugene Cooper served in the United States Navy during World War II. Even Randall's uncle, Andrew Cooper, served as a Marine during the Korean War. There was a bit of a pressure on Cooper to be this generation who fights for America and he even considered enlisting instead of applying to college.

In Vietnam, Randall only saw around two years of service in Vietnam as a rifleman. He does his job as a soldier, taking part in daily patrols and firefights in the villages and the dense jungles. He still has memories about the war, such as killing a young NVA soldier who made eye contact with him, both young men staring at each other, hesitating to pull trigger until Cooper was the first to fire. Often disturbed and stressed by the actions, he prays every morning with his prayer beads, hoping that the war wouldn't affect his or his brother's in arms' sanity. He was given recognition for his service in Vietnam and was moved stateside as part of Nixon's Vietnamization program, a strategy that was fine with him. In 1971, he was deployed to Kansas after an incident occured in the city of Emporia regarding a hostile invasion of what he assumed to be demons and Roman soldiers.

Personality: Randall Cooper is someone who is still affected by the horrors of war, having experienced fellow soldiers killed by Vietcong traps and is still haunted by that young Vietnamese soldier. He's always worried about falling victim into being a psychopath, regularly praying to God that if he were to finish his service alive, that he wouldn't have such a damaged psyche. Despite all of his worries, he always tries to be friendly with people in his platoon, including the new transfers. Often times, he can also be seen reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn as a form of escapism, especially during breaks.

Biography: Born to a WW2 Veteran turned factory worker, and a maid in 1949, Israel was born into interesting times. Raised in an environment of “Go Get it”, he was trained by his parents to value education, and told nothing was handed to him in life. As it stood, living in the south during the Jim Crow era, that was a valid opinion to have. That being said, living in Dallas wasn’t the worst place you could end up in the south. As time moved on, he really got into athletics, provided he kept his grades to his parents high standards. It was mostly football if we’re being honest.

In 1964, when the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed, it felt like tons of possibilities were now open. He was 15 at the time, and becoming a lawyer was on his mind. During his school years, between all the athletics, school, and trying to see what the best college might be, a conflict in Asia was brewing underneath the surface. That's right, the Vietnam war. Having Graduated, and trying to get into college, a letter came in the mail one day. As it turns out, there was one institution that wanted him bad. The US Army. Now don’t get Israel wrong, he loved his country as much as the next guy, probably more. Though that did set things back a bit, but he might as well try his luck. Well, not like he had much of a choice.

Besides, it’s not like Vietnam was something to worry too much about. He heard news reports, and all that, but it wasn’t like he was storming the beaches of Normandy. He’d probably get stuck guarding someplace, or doing mundane patrols. Then it hit. What’s “it”? You may ask. Oh, just the Tet Offensive. Lucky Israel was in the city of Hue when it hit, and oh boy did things escalate after that. It was like a slap in the face of what he was involved in, and just how far reaching it was.

Turns out he performed well, and continued performing well. So much so he was made a Corporal, and given a Fire Team. Who’s bright idea was that again? Well, officers aside, things only got worse on a personal level. Though the army thought we were doing fine. It all seemed like a bunch of pointless battles, for all we knew, survival was a small victory in itself. The tours over the beautifully scarred country dragged on, until an event even more shocking happened. One that got him sent home, not for retirement, and not in a body bag. Oh no, he got back for a whole new war.

When they told him what happened, he thought they were joking. Pulling his chain, but oh no. Those newspapers, TVs, and radios weren’t lying when they said we had been invaded. From another world at that, and he was tasked with shoving a frag down the ass of whoever took those 30,000 people, and making sure the explosion sounded nice. Well, he was on recon duty. But hey, it couldn’t be that bad. He had been shot at by Communists in Jungles halfway across the world. He could suspend his disbelief. Besides, these people had just conducted the largest assault on a Civilian Population by a foreign enemy since Pearl Harbor. Someone was going to die, and to hell with Israel if he wasn’t the one pulling the trigger.

Awesome, thanks for fleshing it out a bit more for me. This application is now accepted and you are assigned to Fireteam 2 of First Squad, First Section.

Unfortunately this Application still leaves much to be desired and I want you to fill it out a bit more around the edges and give us all a little more to work with. This application is being used in the place of any RP samples and what have you because I don't feel past work shows one's current writing level. As this is the case, and that there has been overall a pretty low amount of information given to me as the OP, this application currently sits as rejected until such a time that the biography, and the formatting of the application has been cleaned up. If you would like more information on how to do this with either of the two points, I'd be happy to help you.

I will be updating the roster here shortly and filling it with NPC's to be replaced on a provisional basis once we get under way. Until then, feel free to invite friends of yours into the unit until we do get underway. That will be most likely taking place during the height of the inter-holiday span of time we get to enjoy right now. Notably, during my time off I get to have next weekend.

EDIT: OP has been updated to include a change to certain features and aspects of the OP. Please everyone read the Disclaimer and respond with the statement:

"I accept the terms and conditions of the Original Post to include the Disclaimer and everything it entails."

For those curious, the change to the Disclaimer has placed a preemptive warning before the application to warn players of potentially offensive content due to the historical nature of both the setting and the characters involved.

I’m not much of one to get worked up over offensive subjects. :)
