Fort Peremoha, Fallen Achisia

The witch simply smirked, seeing that once proud knight lying on the ground, broken and defeated. Yes, this was it.. this was the fate that awaited all of them, whether they wanted it or not. They were all going to pay for the crime of having risen up against and for having dared to kill the Mage-Emperor, the greatest human to ever live....the Emperor's faithful servants were still here however, and they were all going to be sure that the banner of the Eternal Flame and Serpent was going to fly high above all of the mortal lands.. just as their master had desired. This was the only way in which peace could be achieved, by rejecting the lies of the so called light, by rejecting the cruel and unfair tyranny of the Faith's false idols...the mortal races were going to join them, either willingly why they were still alive, or bound by chains before they could pass through the river of death. That was to be the fate of all.

But of course, they were always going to be some fools who would refuse to give up on their faint hope, who would refuse to reject their false overlords and to accept their fate. Her arrows were stopped by the a barrier of light created by that dumb servant of Aurora, and with all his fancy light magic turned on once again, the knight threw spears of blue fire at her as he started to close in.. how foolish of him. The witch snapped her fingers, using that faint sound to cover her even fainter whisper of a magical word - and a shield of dark energy appeared between her and those lances, although - the shield appeared a moment too late, as the lance to pierce her thigh..

And the witch looked with so much hate and anger at Arthur at that moment that it could have made his blood curdle. The lance of light started to disappear as the witch drew her bow yet again - launching another wave of black arrows of death at the knight..but even if she probably among the most powerful witches that Arthur had ever faced..

She was still an archer, and he was a swordsman.. and so, she left herself open for a couple of moments..

All while the soldiers of the fort were running away, pushing through the lines of Achisian peasants, led by nothing else but fear and terror..

The border between the Kingdom of Duivene and the Fallen Achisia

The black armor wearing twin of Alexis still seemed to be unable to take the fight seriously, giggling and teasing Eric from time to time while never really seeming to pay too much attention to the duel, to the metal of Eric's sword hitting her lance or her blade. It was as if she was playing around with him, like a predator taunting its prey..or like a child having fun with a toy...and she seemed to take a lot of pleasure in the fact that she had managed to annoy her opponent, even a little... but that was also her mistake. She nearly effortlessly parried his first attacks, and then she tried to hit him with the sword and the tip of her spear at the same time - a move that was brimming with overconfidence.. only for him to deflect her sword, and to push her back, taking her by surprise enough for her to lose her balance for a few precious moments - just as she tried to hit him with her spear. That's where Eric's long experience and great skill in swordfighting proved their value, as the knight hit the twin's hand with his sword - not enough to wound her but enough to make her involuntarily drop her spear - and then he hit her nose with his sword's pommel, forcing her back with a small cry of pain. As Eric kicked the spear away, and as black blood started to flow from her nose.. the twin looked at him with what was now clearly hate in her sickly yellowish eyes. She seemed to want to say something, but she never managed to - as before she was even able to open her mouth, a cry of "Men of Duievene, rally to your princess!", was heard in the distance, and a charging knight thrust his lance at her torso. And a few things happened in a quick sequence.

The silver tip of the lance managed to pierce through an armor that would have been unbreakable otherwise, and it presumably also pierced through her skin and flesh - judging by the black blood that gushed out and by her cry of pain that was provoked by the burning sensation of that piece of holy metal. However, the tip of the spear lodged itself there and because of how fast Peter was moving, the wooden shaft of the lance broke. The evil princess reacted almost immediately, shouting a spell which led to three spears of shadow piercing directly into the chest and torso of Peter's horse - causing the poor animal to die almost instantly and to fall, throwing the knight who was riding on the ground rather violently.

Having dealt with the first issue, the twin looked immediately back at Eric, not even giving him a chance to react properly, her style of fighting seeming to have changed completely from just a few minutes ago. Fast and deadly, she pushed forward with her sword, forcing the knight to use all of his focus and strength just to defend himself and to parry or deflect her hits and slashes, as she quickly changed the targets of her onslaught. She attacked with a speed that was just barely even human anymore, and step by step, she pushed him back. And just as her offensive flurry seemed to calm down for a moment, giving Eric a moment of breathing, she suddenly grabbed Eric's sword by the blade, and pulled it to the side with a nearly superhuman strength - giving her enough of an opening to thrust her sword forward - and her black blade pierced through Eric's armor and left upper arm, right next to the bone. With a smirk on her face, the light blonde haired girl pulled back her sword and let go of Eric's, clearly enjoying all of this.

"Good swordsman or not, you are still just a little human, little knight.", the twin told Eric, giggling. "You are a human getting involved in a battle of gods and magic..and because of that, no matter what, you will fail.. you will fail, you will lose, and you will die.. your heroes are weak and false idols, and you are going to die defending a princess who can not even defend those that she cares about.. a princess that can not even defend herself." A whisper in the wind.. and a spear of shadow suddenly appeared next to Eric, being thrown directly at the poor Alexis, who was still shivering and shaking, doing her best just to stand up, with the help of her lance. Before she was able to react, the spear's tip pierced through her shoulder, the force of the hit throwing her back and on the ground. And once again, the princess' flag and her lance fell on the muddy ground, and the flag's disappeared led to another wave of fear and pure despair among the soldiers... if their princess was gone, if their hero was gone, if her light was no more.. who was going to protect them, who was going to lead them?

If their hero was gone, all hope was lost. And in the mud, Alexis seemed to be so drained of energy, so pale and weak that she couldn't even cry..

"But you know something? I like your determination, this stubbornness and spirit of yours.. I have a friend who will be more than able to chain that soul of yours after you die.. what would you think about having to serve me for all eternity?" You will learn to enjoy it, in time...", and smirking again, the evil twin gripped the handle of her sword even tighter, ready to attack again. "Or will you try to stop me?"

The undead forces had lost their momentum when their own princess had been wounded, but when Alexis fell and when her flag disappeared, with her light gone, most of the soldiers and the knights of Duivene lost their hope, fear taking over them. Their formations started to break, while some of them even started to drop their weapons and to try to run away.... their terror filled minds failing to realize that the undead horde was everywhere, surrounding them.. there was no way out, no way to run away..

Just as the dragon was preparing to jump into the air again however, it noticed that someone was charging at it.. what a small and insolent fool. Wasting no time, the dragon opened all three of its mouths, and launched a breath of black fire directly at Yakr...

Somewhere
The border between Wyzkia and the Ecclesiarchy

"Alina.. there is.. there is nothing that you have to be sorry about..", Rafal tried to say, his voice soft, sad and yet glad at the same time. It was heartbreaking to see her like that, crying so hard..but he was glad.. he was oh so glad that he had managed to find her before it was too late..it hurt to think that he had failed to protect her, even after he had promised her that, that because of his own weakness, he had failed to protect his liege and he had also failed to keep her safe from such vile people as the Faith Keepers.. but he was glad that from now on, this was over. With his blade and bonded grfiffin.. he was much stronger now, strong enough to defend her.. strong enough to save her. "Just wait for a little bit more, alright? I will take care of them, and then I will save you, for sure.."

The same knight who had spoken so roughly to Alina was however taking none of it, as he made a step forward, tightly gripping his sword. "What are you trying to do, little paladin? Attacking a group of Faith Keepers? This is a sacrilege. The Faith's Judgement will have your head for this! And why do you even care about her anyway? Are you just trying to act a knight in shining armor?", he shouted, spitting venom. And Rafal just took a deep breath. "I... I promised that I would protect her...and.. and.." A short moment of silence followed, and even if it wasn't exactly noticeable because of the distance and because of his armor, the green eyed boy blushed a little. "And I care about her... do I need any other reasons? The Paladins don't recognize the authority of your corrupted Faith's Judgement anyway.. and if it's for her, if it's for saving her, then I really don't care.. I will save her even if I have to fight the Paladins, even if I have to fight the entire Faith..it doesn't matter..", and the boy smiled sadly. But the knight didn't seem to care. "We have been ordered to bring this girl to Sedia by one of the Decidors.. and our Priestess has found some sort of a dark, corrupting power inside of her... who knows what sort of a wicked demon or cursed monster she really is! You can never know, with all of those monstrosities being able to masquerade as humans.. and even if she really is human to begin with, then this just means that she is just a little whore who accepted a demon's power, abandoning her gods.. she deserves to burn at the stake.."

And Rafal's entire attitude changed in a moment. "You.. should not have said that..", he whispered, in a voice as cold as ice.. and a heartbeat later, Rafal suddenly threw the huge lance that he was holding, the lance that was meant for thrusting and certainly not for throwing, directly at the knight - and with an incredible precision, aided by the griffin's magic, most likely, the lance pierced through the knight's right thigh, breaking the bone as if it was a small twig. And the knight screamed. The griffin cried again, a blood curling shriek and several of the Faith Keepers simply dropped their weapons, turning around and starting to run away. With the light of the sun causing his armor to shine, riding on top of such a majestic and powerful beast, with those wings on his back.. Rafal truly looked like a Paladin, like a warrior of the ages of old.. like a true hero.

The green eyed boy jumped from the griffin's back, and the false wings on his back slowed his fall - allowing him to softly land on the muddy ground beneath. Two of the younger Faith Keepers, probably also the most foolish ones, one armed with an axe and one armed with a spear rushed forward, trying to attack him before he could fight back.. but in one swift move, Rafal unsheathed his sword, blocking the axe with its jagged blade and punching the first Faith Keeper in the face. The second one hesitated, and the blade cut through his spear's wooden shaft. Left without a weapon, the second Keeper screamed, turning around and running away. This short and quick display of power and skill was more than enough to frighten the others. The band of Faith Keepers scattered in the wind, disappearing through the forest around them.. except for three of them. The wounded knight, the scarred girl, and the priestess. The knight was unable to walk, shocked and in pain, curled up in a near fetal position on the ground, and the two girls looked at Rafal hesitantly.

"You can take him away.. as bad as his soul his, he doesn't deserve to die..", he told them calmly, and the scarred girl silently nodded, looking once again at Alina for a few moment before jumping out of the wagon, and a few moments later, both Faith Keepers disappeared among the trees, dragging the wounded knight with them. Rafal had already scouted the forest with the griffin, so he knew that there were no other dangers between them and the Ecclesiarchy's border.. and killing them like that was just not like him.

All that mattered was her.

Rafal started to run, and a few moments later, he was in the wagon, looking at her with a mess of feelings reflected in his expression. He gently took her hands into his left hand, and used the sword's edge to hit the handcuffs once, breaking the magical markings that were on them, and they just turned into dust.. Dropping his sword, Rafal just hugged her as tightly as he could, tears rolling down his cheeks. "i'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm just so sorry..", he tried to say.. "I n-nearly.. n-nearly l-lost you.. I n-nearly b-broke my p-promise.. I'm sorry.. I'm sorry, but I'm.. I'm here n-now.. and everything is alright.. I'm here now, and you're s-safe.."

.....................................................................................................................................................................................

A couple of minutes later, Wulf also managed to get off from the griffin's back - the little boy hesitating for quite a while to jump like Rafal had just done, only for his own little wings to ease his fall like that. The griffin distanced itself from the others a little, seeming to be quite interested in the weapons that the Faith Keepers had left behind, and with Wulf remaining sort of alone like that.. he suddenly felt someone grabbing him by the neck from behind, a man in the white robes of a Faith Keeper... "This doesn't end here, you sinners!", he whispered, taking out a knife..

Somewhere
A village

The night arrived pretty quickly, but in that short period of time.. the entire village changed its appearance. From the peaceful but sort of slumbering place that had been there when the two of them had arrived, the atmosphere changed into one of celebration, of happiness and of excitement - of true gratitude. Candles with colored fire had been placed nearly everywhere, bringing the glowing colors of the rainbow on all the streets and in front of and inside of all the houses. Flowers had been quickly enchanted into wonderful forms and decorations, small altars had been prepared for all of the gods, and the scent of fresh flowers and grass, of bread and food was spreading throughout the small town. The most effort had however been made to decorate the town's small square - and that's where most of the villagers and the two visiters were just as the sun had disappeared beneath the horizon - darkness kept away by small cozy and colored fires. Minstrels were singing, people were dancing and talking and having fun - celebrating their hero.

Celio.

Of course, the poor boy was unable any of it, and part of him still refused to believe that something like this could be happening, while another side of him was clearly embarassed by all the positive attention that he was getting - the way in which he was blushing, even more obvious because of just how pale his skin has made his embarassment all too clear - and the poor boy nearly seemed to be on the point of fainting when the old lady had congratulated himself in front of the entire village that had gathered in the square... but deep inside.. he was happy. He was enjoying this, and that was rather obvious because of his constant smile - so different from the melancholic, sad smile that the boy used to have on his face during his previous meetings with Julie. He had been craving for the feeling of being liked and appreciated by the people around him, him, the poor boy that was hated and despised by just so many... so for him.. this was almost like a dream come true...

As Celio was still surrounded by the villagers, Julie was now standing more towards the edge of the square, away from the large crowd - and seeing her there, the old lady from before approached her, stopping right next to her with a glass of wine in her hand. "Your friend is really, really shy..", the nice lady said, with a smile on her face. "He really seems to be embarassed by all of this attention, and in a way, I feel sorry for him, but we owe him a debt that can not be possibly paid back.. so this celebration is the least that we can do.." And then, the woman hesitated for a few moments. "Judging by just how embarasseed and confused he seems to be, and by how you reacted to it.. it would be safe to assume that he's never told you about this, right? He doesn't seem to be the type to brag about it.. even if he truly is a hero." And the lady smiled again. "The war was horrible.. but we managed to get through msot of it without any harm being done to our little town. We are sort of isolated, and even if we had to send some of our men to the war back when it all started.. the rest of it was pretty peaceful.. until when that bloody massacre happened in the forest next to our village. We all avoid it now, the blood stained forest as we call it.. you might have noticed it because of the crater if you came from that direction - it's a place that the few travellers that come to our village always avoid. There was this big battle over there, a lot of magic, a lot of soldiers, a lot of monsters.. and a lot of death. That forest is cursed to this day because of how much death and pain and suffering happened there... but the worst came after the end of the battle. Mercenaries suddenly appeared around our village, bastards and evil people from that corrupted place called Anselm.. oh, we had heard about them, about how they destroyed so many villages and cities, killing, looting, raping and torturing everything in their way.. we were so afraid.. so terrified.. the few of us who could use some magic gathered at the entrance, trying to hold them back, but.. what could we do? I t was horrible, the thought that they would do all of that to our village, to our families, to our friends, to our neighbors.."

And the woman sighed. "But before they were able to do anything.. he arrived. We had actually heard some rumors about him - one of the men had returned home without both legs a year or two before, and he had told us about this Achisian necromancer who was somehow also kind - giving him a heatlh that had helped him survived, but we had never believed that.. there couldn't be such a thing as a kind necromancer, right? I felt his aura when he appeared, so powerful, so strong, we had no chance against him, so I was ready to give up..aura reading is one of the few fields of magic that I am good at.. but there was also just so much pain, so much suffering, so much sadness and loathing in there it... it overwhelmed me for a few moments, and when I saw his relic, a scythe.. I knew that all hope was lost.. but instead of attacking us, instead of leading those mercenaries and violating and ruining our village.. he turned around and looked at them." She smiled..as her eyes started to get a little teary. "He argued with them, he told them that our village was under our protection, and that no attack was going to happen that day.. and of course, the mercenaries wouldn't listen. They tried to ignore him, they tried to advance onto the village, and one of them grabbed one of our girls by the hand... and that's when he stepped in between, punching that soldier.. and he fought against them, one boy against an entire group of hardened mercenaries, criminals, and mages..he turned against them for us, in order to protect us, the people of a village that he had never seen before.. and he saved us from the horrors of the war.. before he disappeared again."

And then, the lady looked at Celio, who was surrounded by a bunch of girls. "If not for him, we wouldn't have been here right now.. we would have been dead, broken, or enslaved, and our village would have been razed to the ground..we were never able to thank him properly, and we probably never will be able to pay back that debt.. but in that war of chaos and brutality and so many evil things..who cares about those arrogant Heroes in the big cities?. A necromancer like him saved us.. he is our hero, there is no doubt about it.."

The girls were seemingly all trying to get Celio to dance with them, and it was probably only partially because of his "hero" status. It was normally not exactly easy to notice, due to the way in which he was dressed and due to how he was nearly always trying to at least partially hide his face.. and then again, most of the when the two of them had met poor Celio had been on the verge of death.. but he was actually a pretty good looking boy, beautiful - even if his pale skin and crimson eyes made his beauty a bit more.. supranatural than the beauty of princes like Auguste or Ekaitz. With him not swinging a scythe around, terrorizing people, the girls in the village clearly liked him a lot, with some of them already acting as if they were head over heels in love with him - which the old lady quickly noticed. In a few steps - she entered their group, taking Celio by his hand and dragging a very confused black haired boy right next to Julie, where he also took her by the hand- dragging them both in the middle of the square, where some people were already dancing on the music that was being played by a group of minsterls. And like that, Julie and Celio ended up in front of each other, with the lady letting go of their hands. "Why don't you two dance? This shy boy over here has been rejecting girl after girl back there, trying to think of ways of invinting you to dance, so I thought that he might need a little help!.." And a Celio that was blushing harder by the moment looked hesitantly at the blue eyed girl in front of him, as if he was desperately trying to say the most difficult words of his entire life. "Would you.. would you.. would you like.. to... d-dance w-with m-me?..", he tried to ask, the last few words almost a whisper, holding out his hand...

And when she said yes, his entire face brigthened up, smiling as Julie took his hand. And they started to dance.. of course, Celio had no idea how to actually dance, since dancing courses weren't included in the Cult of Sins training, and most of his previous memories were gone.. so they just moved in the rhythm of the music, with Celio seeming to blush even harder, if that was even possible. And yet.. he tried to take a few deep breaths to calm himself down. "I just.. I just wanted to say..", he started talking, looking down for a few moments before he looked back, directly at Julie. "That..this is probably.. the happiest I've ever been... so....thank you.. thank you so much.."

Fort Peremoha, Achisia

As Arthur witnessed his lance impale the witch through the leg, he first felt a sense of achievement and victory however this quickly was replaced by bewilderment when he saw the witch's face......such a face only a servant of darkness could make. the hate, disdain, malevolent intent....and eyes as dark and merciless as night. Any other man would have cowered in fear, even trained knights of the scripture, and begged for their lives. But not Arthur.....he was beyond that point already, any sense of self preservation having left him when he abandoned the safety of the fort to buy time for his troops to escape.

Now within a few feet of the evil sorceress, Arthur prepared to strike her with all his might until the witch's quick casting of the dark arrows all pierced Arthur bringing him to a stop in front of the witch. Two of the arrows pierced his abdomen, the other lodged into his left shoulder, all three causing Aurora's servant excruciating pain. He felt the dark magic of the arrows working their way into his body, weakening him. He dropped onto one knee, and dropped his still lit holy sword, coughing up blood.

So this is where it ends..... Arthur thought to himself, staring at his sword. He quickly said a verse of a prayer to Aurora, and using his remaining strength grabbed his sword and stood up once more, and taking advantage of the witch's opened guard and sank his sword deep into the witch's heart and placed his hand on the witch's face, summoning holy fire which burnt against her skin. He twisted his sword inside of her, and said:

"You are wrong witch. Before the dawn, night must pass. The night is cruel and evil like you...." Arthur once more coughed up blood, his words becoming weaker and weaker "...but dawn's light always comes again to drown out the night." As Arthur finished speaking, using the last of his strength he removed his sword and decapitated the witch in one slash of the sword.

Standing alone, his sword's light puttered out, and he collapsed to the ground next to the headless body of the witch. As their duel ended, one could see the sun faintly on the horizon....

He said there was nothing for her to be sorry about, which she knew wasn't true--she'd broken her promise, she'd failed him, but he didn't care. He was there to save her, he was going to help her--but then that knight--

She cringed at his words, at the thought of Rafal getting hurt for trying to protect her. But Rafal said he cared about her, that he'd protect her even if it meant having to fight the church itself, even if it meant having to fight the other paladins, and she could barely breathe--being a paladin was his dream, wasn't it? The idea that he might give that up just for her--was she really worth it?

But the knight called her a demon, a monster, wicked and cursed, and then--then he said that for accepting that power from the strange boy god, she was just a little whore, a whore who'd abandoned her gods and deserved to be burned at the stake. And she couldn't even argue with those words, though she hated them.

Yet Rafal's reaction, the icy contempt and anger and the way he attacked the knight, the sun reflecting off his armor and making him look so--amazing--

She wasn't afraid at all, not with him like this.

Before she could really register what had happened with the other Faith Keepers, he was by her side, taking her small hands in his own and severing the cuffs from her thin wrists. And then he dropped his sword and hugged her tightly, and cried--and she cried too, not out of sadness or pain but out of sheer relief. He was there. He was there and she was safe, everything was going to be okay. "Rafal," she choked, clinging to him tightly and sobbing into his chest. "Rafal, you're here--you're really here, I was so scared you were dead, I was so scared--I don't want you to die. I don't care if they hurt me, or if they kill me, I just don't want you to die--I don't mind if you leave me, I just want you to be okay, but I'm still--I'm still glad you're here--" She cut herself off, no longer certain of what she was saying. "I just don't want you to die, is all," she whispered, quite uncertain as to whether that was really all that she'd meant.

Everything was so confusing, but Rafal was there, and that meant she was safe. She'd always be safe as long as he was there to protect her.

The Border between Duivene and Achisia

When Peter head been thrown from his horse, he landed in the midst of several undead who immediately closed in on the young lord who was outright terrified. Battle wasn't what people made it out to seem, all this nonsense of "glory". All he felt was a burning desire to turn tail and run back to Jacquesville where he wouldn't have to fight. But he looked around him, at those soldiers who had nowhere to go, no huge castle to run to for their own safety, what justice was there for them?

Snapping back into reality, Peter quickly unsheathed his sword and parried the axe of one of the undead closing in on him before kicking the undead creature to the ground. Peter picked up his shield and turned to face his assailants, counting 5 closing in on him. He immediately used his shield as a weapon against the closest undead, slamming his shield against it, knocking it to the ground. Another undead closed in on Peter from behind, swinging a farmer's scythe at his torso. Peter met the horizontal slash with his sword, catching the farmer's tool mere inches away from his body before breaking the wooden handle with his shield and decapitating the undead. Fortunately, a few dozen of Peter's men-at-arms spotted him and helped kill the last of the undead assailing him. It was then he spotted Sir Loras Rousseau, a household knight, nearing him.

"My lord I saw you get unhorsed by that bitch in the black armor, we thought for certain that you were done for." Loras said, sounding exhausted and out of breath.

"Ah now you can't get rid of us Clermont's that easily Sir Loras. It's good to see you my friend." Peter managed to say, himself winded from fighting. Looking for the princess' banner, Peter could not find it however and began to fear for the worst. If the princess was killed, the battle would certainly be lost, all hope for the men of Duivene fighting would be extinguished. Peter turned to his men, and said loudly:

"Men of House Clermont, follow me, we must find our princess!" as he and his men hacked their way through undead to reach Alexis. Eventually Peter found her, though in rougher shape than he was hoping for. She looked almost completely sapped of her strength, her wounds appearing to be grievous. He looked at her and said:

"My princess, you are not going to die on us today!" Peter looked across the battlefield, removing his helmet and saw how overwhelmed and scattered they all were. Though not very experienced in command, Peter knew they needed someplace to rally and regroup and chose to do it himself. Picking up the Princess and leaning her on his left shoulder, Peter grabbed her banner and waved it high in the air:

"Rally to your princess! Reform your lines!" Peter shouted at the top of his lungs, as his own men began to reform around his and Alexis' position. It was now do or die for all of them.......

As day changed to night and the village grew more and more festive with each passing moment, Julie couldn't help but get swallowed by the air of excitement that passed through the people. From the flames to the flowers, the singers to the food, everything seemed...happy. Every aspect of this makeshift festival was awe-inspiring, and the brunette couldn't help but admit she was surprised they were able to put something together so coherently in so little time. Despite the initial surprise she'd felt in seeing these people praise Celio as their hero, she found that, quickly, the idea filled her with happiness and excitement as well. Not just for the celebration, but for his heroic praise as well. And as she watched him take in all the praise, the idolization, the pride, watching as he blushed and really, truly smiled...it really made her heart fill with joy. Maybe, just maybe, this would be enough to turn his opinion around, to see that there truly was a reason to live...

In the end, she had to admit that she didn't exactly enjoy being so separated from the boy, even though she was happy to see him soaking in all the attention. Perhaps it was selfish of her to feel that way...but it didn't quite matter. No matter how jealous or attached she felt, she wouldn't disturb him if he was happy. Instead, she stuck to the side of the square where only a few people were scattered, sipping on her own glass of wine. Her attention was only drawn away as the old lady from earlier approached her, own drink in hand, and as she spoke, Julie cast her own kind smile back at the woman. "He definitely is that...but don't be fooled, I get the feeling he's enjoying every second of all that praise." She responded with a slight chuckle, but quieted again as she began to explain why exactly they tended to praise him so highly. She spoke of the bloody forest, that of which she assumed had been the one she and Celio had fought in only the night before...but even now, the memory felt too distant to be such a small amount of time ago. She spoke of the mercenaries that surrounded their village, how terrified they were...and then of the rumors they had received of a kind Achisian necromancer, that she had felt his aura when he arrived, so strong yet pained...which...sounded pretty accurate to the Archbishop. She spoke again that they assumed all hope was lost, but that instead of attacking them alongside the mercenaries, he instead stood up to them, fighting after they had tried to grab one of their girls, that he protected them and then disappeared again.

As the woman spoke, Julie found herself casting glances back at the necromancer, finding the idea of him committing such kind acts...comforting. She continued to speak of how thankful they were for him, that they could never thank him properly, that they had no need to care for the big Heroes with him around, but Julie found her eyes locked onto him rather than the woman instead. Was he really so kind in his past? If so, how had she never heard or known about it? She wondered if, perhaps, being kinder to his younger self had helped lead him on that path...but the gesture seemed too grand to be caused by her kindness alone. Yes, he had to truly be kind to do something like this for a village, right? It...warmed her heart, the idea of that. Perhaps redeeming him could be easier than she thought...

But her thoughts were shocked away again as she noticed all of the girls around him, the beautiful women with perfectly full figures and pretty hair, each trying to overemphasize themselves to try and win Celio's attention...and Julie admitted it made her feel self-conscious. Her self-esteem a bit injured, she quickly tried to smooth her hair as nicely as she could, pulling her skirt to straighten it out, but feeling...inadequate compared to all of the other girls. After all, they'd had all day to beautify themselves, while Julie hadn't had the chance to do so in days; weeks even. Well, it didn't matter, did it? As long as he was happy, and if that meant absorbing all of the other girls' attention rather than her own, so be it. Tonight was not about her, after all. It was about him. It was all about him...and perhaps thinking so, Julie snapped away from her thoughts as she noticed the old lady trudging back to her, dragging the black-haired boy behind her. He seemed to be just as confused as she was...only more so as the old lady grabbed her by her wrist as well, dragging them both to the middle of the square, where she finally released them both. She mentioned them dancing, about how Celio had been rejecting those girls, trying to think of how to invite her to dance...

Could that really be true? Of all those beautiful girls, in a much better state than herself, why would he choose her to dance with? Perhaps it was then that she realized Celio was blushing, looking away from her, causing her own cheeks to immediately turn pink and hot themselves. Perhaps, if it could get any more embarrassing, he truly did quietly ask her to dance with a stutter, holding out his own hand to her. Well, her face lit up red to put lightly, and, almost speechlessly, she nodded, squeaking an "O-of course..." before she placed her hand in his own. Why was she getting so flustered? It was only a dance, a simple dance between a girl and an admittedly handsome boy...how had she not quite noticed it before? Or more specifically, why was she noticing it now? Perhaps she'd drank a bit too much wine...

But as his face lit up, smiling genuinely as he swung her into the dance, she couldn't help but laugh and blush more. She admitted that she herself had never truly learned how to dance besides the occasional festivals she went to as a child, but beyond that...she could only guess what to do. But even then, in their own lack of knowledge of how to dance properly, they still seemed to move fluidly in their own unique way. Her ears burned as they danced, her face still bright red as they continued. She tried not to let herself think about how close they were, how easy it would be to take a step forward...but she couldn't, no, she wouldn't--if she did, she might just die of embarrassment...but his voice startled her from her flustered thoughts, and she looked to him as he spoke, his eyes meeting hers as he mentioned that this was the happiest he had ever been...but what could that mean? Because of her? Because of everything they'd done? She almost wanted to ask, but it felt too selfish, too obvious...she wasn't really supposed to like him, after all. But the past day bad been extraordinary, and seeing this side of him...it made everything else feel like a bad dream.

She smiled warmly, ignoring her hot cheeks. "Of course, there's no need to thank me...I just want you to be happy." She answered, struggling to keep herself calm as her mind aggressively pointed out how close they were once more. "But of course, that brings up the subject that a day has passed..." She spoke, her eyes studying his expression as they danced, and her smile grew softly. "And I did say I would give you a day...so..." She hesitated slightly. She almost wanted him to say her, to say she was the reason, but her mind painfully reminded her of all of those beautiful girls, quietly killing her excitement. "With all of those girls oogling over you, I imagine that would give you many reasons to live," She giggled, a joke, sighing softly as her giggle eased, though her slightly hurt self-esteem seemed evident by the comment. "So, what do you think..? Have you...found a reason to keep living..?"

Somewhere

"Did your little transformation during the evening fry your brain? Or are you really just that stupid?", a slightly irritated Wrath replied. "I'm here with you because our glorious leader has decided that sending you alone anywhere is a bad idea no one knows what you're going to do here if you were to be unsupervised. And you really should realize that you have a huge problem if someone sends the Archbishop of Wrath to make sure that you behave.." and the ashen haired girl giggled. "And you certainly do seem to have some brain damage.. that if you even had a brain to begin with. I've told the other you countless times that I have no idea who this "Kat" is, and the obsession that both of your personalities seem to have with it is starting to become rather annoying.. you should stop before I decide to cut you off into little pieces and to give your butchered bits to the dogs as food", she told him with a smile on her face.. before she sighed. "And here she comes.."

Sure enough, everything around them was a mess, the chaotic and dark and corrupting and evil thoughts inducing influence of the crimson sky above them, the Authority of Wrath emanated by the gray eyed girl, the feelings of anger and hate and ire spreading through their veins like fire, and now.. sudden intensity of the presence of an extremely powerful mage, the feeling of an aura that Leide at least knew all too well.

The Loroi woman seemed to have just appeared on the battlefield, her imposing presence a little out of place here, on this field of death.. even if a few faint marks of the Sin that had once controlled her were still present deep inside of her very being. She was incredibly powerful, there was no way to mistake that, but she exuded a power that seemed different from the feeling of danger and brutal and tumultuous strength that the Archbishop of Ira had.. it was a colder, more withdrawn kind of power, but power nonetheless.. and even if she was obviously doing her best to hide it.. it was clear that the Night was causing her a lot of pain, stirring the conflict that had nearly broken her soul not so long ago..

"I reckon that the darker side of you is just trying to mess around with people, Leide.", the woman calmly replied. "That or Wrath is actually right - and the darker side of you is actually dumber than the regular you. You know all too well that not only does she lack the memories of her past self, but that having your soul bound to one of the Sins is much more about what you want and what you don't want. But while she has forgotten who she once was, I certainly do remember the girl who was known as Katia.. do you, Leide?"

A spear of burning was suddenly thrown at the woman, but she easily deflected it with a simple wave of her hand. "Hey, don't talk about me as if I wasn't here, you old hag.", Wrath commented, seemingly.. bored? The woman looked at her for a few moments, smiling, before she returned to her previous serious expression - looking once again at Leide. "I couldn't hear the entirety of your conversation, so do tell me Leide.. why are you here?"

Somewhere
The border between Wyzkia and the Ecclesiarchy

"Yes.. yes, I'm.. I'm really here..", Rafal managed to say even as tears continued to roll down his cheeks, still afraid that something might happened to her, but just so glad that he was finally here with her, that he was finally here to protect her. If he could he would have just hugged her forever... like this, when they were hugging so tightly, they could just pretend that the world around them didn't exist anymore, that cruel harsh world which had hurt her so much.. like this, when he was holding her like this, he could be sure that nothing else bad was going to happen to her again, like this, it felt as if he could protect her from everything and anything..what was this feeling even? It was unlike anything that he had ever felt before...it had stated as just what he had considered his duty to protect her.. but that had ended long ago. If his actions would have only been motivated by his sense of duty, he would have returned her to the nearest city or.. to her father, before returning to the Order. No, his desire to protect her had nothing to do with his sense of duty.. after all.. when he had told that horrible knight that for her, he wouldn't mind fighting the Faith, or even the Paladins.. he was.. he was telling the truth.

It was weird, it was too weird for him to even to begin to understand what this feeling was, but because of this... because of this he felt as if even abandoning his life-long dream, his father's last wish, that of becoming a paladin.. if it would have been for her, if it would have been in order to protect her.. he wouldn't have wasted a second thought on such a decision. If it was for her, he would have done it without any hesitation. But this just confused him even more. Even if he knew that he wanted to protect her, that he wanted to keep her safe, to make her happy... was there anything more to it? Was there anything he could do about it? He had no idea.. but the pain that he had felt in his heart when thinking of her being all alone and scared, of her being hurt.. had been a thousand times stronger than the pain of that poison spreading through his veins and burning his body.

"It's alright.. it's alright..", the green eyed boy desperately tried to say. "I'm alive, I didn't die.. and nothing else matters. I survived, and it's because of you.. that little deity who gave you that power has helped me too..and I managed to save you in time, that's all that matters. You don't have to be hurt or to die for me, never, never, I know that, and I will never leave you.. because I've promised you that I will protect you, didn't I? I don't care who I will have to fight against.. but I will keep you safe, no matter what.. and I'm so sorry.. so sorry that I nearly broke my promise like that.. but now I have new powers, a new weapon, and a new friend.. now I am strong enough to keep you safe, I know that...and I will always be here for you.." And then the boy remained quiet for a few moments, taking a few deep breaths to try to stop his tears... "I don't know if I've ever properly asked you this before.. but.. do you.. accept my promise? Do you want to come with me? Do you want me to be your knight?.."

"Yes..

She knew he would have to let go of her eventually... but she didn't want him to. Anyone else would frighten her with their touch, but he was safe, she knew that, he made her feel safe. She would have been happy if he'd just kept holding her like that forever.

"I'm so glad you're okay," she whispered, though she was startled and a little bit frightened at the mention of that strange deity. But it was true, he'd managed to save her, and he said he'd always be there... that he had more power, that he was strong enough to keep her safe. And he'd looked so wonderful when he'd come for her...

When he asked her his final question, though, she froze slightly, trying to comprehend it. Did he--did he really mean what it sounded like he meant? He was asking her again if she accepted his protection, if she wanted to come with him, and she did, because he made her feel safe and he didn't treat her like a whore and it meant so, so much, but... to ask her if she wanted him to be her knight... did he mean that he wanted to protect her and only her?

"...I do," she whispered, choking slightly on the words. "I do. I want to stay with you. I want to feel safe, I want to feel like a human being, I want to feel like there's someone out there who still cares--you're so kind to me and I don't want that to stop, I want to stay with you!" She clung to him even more tightly, relishing the comforting warmth of the embrace. "I want to stay with you," she said again, shaking slightly. "Thank you so much..."

Fallen Achisia
The city of Kydara
Under the protection of the Council of the Six Nations

He was happy, he truly was.. and it wasn't because of some tainted feeling of pride. It had nothing to do with the sin that sometimes stained his heart so deeply, with the influence that was right now running through his blood like poison, trying to take over him even now, It wasn't because of some corrupted sense of delight and satisfaction.. no, his sin had nothing to do with it.. he had battled it and the goddess that owned his soul for so long that he knew it.. he knew that she couldn't control all of his feelings, and he knew that what he was feeling right now had nothing to do with Superbia. He loved her.. he knew that, he remembered that.. that feeling was one of the few memories of his that had always remained with him.. no matter of how much he had forgotten or remembered about his past, the way in he felt about her had never changed... and it was this feeling and those memories of her that had helped him to resist his master's influence.. it was her who had bound him to the person that he had once used to be.. it was her existence and his desire to protect her and to save her, that had stopped him from losing his mind and to giving in to sin that he was serving.

So hearing say all of that.. hearing her promise that too, hearing her say that all she ever wanted was for him to hold her like this.. that she only wanted to be with him...it took him everything he had to not start crying again. She loved him... she loved him, she had no idea how to tell him how much she loved him, she was going to do anything for him, but all that mattered.. all that matter was that she loved him. He had never thought that it would be possible for someone to feel so much happiness..

Stuck as he was in those warm and fuzzy thoughts, the white haired boy barely even noticed her singing those soft notes.. and then...

His life had been one of darkness from the moment in which he had been born. The priests said that it was a blessing, his father had called it a curse, those silver colored and hollow eyes of his.. he had never been able to see anything. The faces of the people around him, his sister, his mother, those were all part of his imagination, even his father, the one that he hated so much, was just a voice buried deep into his memories. He could see magic, sort of.. that was the blessing of it, in a way, he could feel, sense, and in a strange way even sort of see mana, magic and the spells of other people, and it was because of this that he had become such a powerful mage to begin with, and it was because of this that he had managed to survive even with such a blindness...but it was a double edged blade. There were so many things that he could have tried to do in order to gain the ability to see properly, but none of them would work without ruining his blessing.. and the decision to give up on that so called blessing had never been his. There were perhaps ways to make him see for short periods of time, but most of the time.. it was easy.. how could he long for something that he had never had to begin with?

But suddenly, the darkness that was a part of him suddenly disappeared..and he instinctively closed his eyes because of... the light? Was.. was this light? It was so different from how he had imagined it, so different from the way in which he was normally able to "see" and feel the world around him.. was this... was he able to.. see?

After a few moments, he slowly and hesitantly opened his eyes.. and well.. there really is no way to properly describe how he was feeling at the moment. It was as if he had entered a completely new world..as if he had been living a lie for all those years. Feeling, sensing and touching the world around him had always been enough, but to be able to actually see things, to look at them.. it was.. it was on an entirely different level..it was so amazing, so incredible, that even if he had come to terms with his cursed blessing so long ago.. he couldn't help but feel a twinge of pain in his heart when thinking about what could never be his..

And then he heard her whispering, and for the first time in his life he was actually able to look at what someone was trying to show him, the city below, covered in the cloud of poison, with so many people sleeping, dying..and then she asked if it was beautiful. In a way.. in a way it maybe was. In a world as cruel as that in which they were condemned to live, passing out and dying as peacefully as that could almost be a blessing, an easy way of escaping..but when he heard the word beautiful, he couldn't help but wonder..

He had imagined how she looked like just so many times. He knew the music of her voice, and at some point in the past, he touched her face, encrusting every little detail that he could feel into his mind and soul, so that he would never, ever, no matter what, forget how she looked like.. but since he never seen anything before, all he could do was to imagine how she looked like, to portray her in his mind...and she was beautiful, he knew that, she was the most beautiful being that he had ever imagined, there was no way for him to ever think otherwise and if he would have never been allowed to actually see the world around him like he was doing, he would have just continued to believe that until the end of his days.

But.. he was wrong.

She was.. she was actually.. even more beautiful than anything that he could ever imagine.

She left him without words, without a breath, as he had slowly turned around to look at her..and he just remained like that, his once hollow silver eyes now filed with life as he just started at her, ignoring the city, ignoring everything else around them, and looking only and only at her.. and then tears slowly started to roll down his cheeks.

"You are.. you are even more beautiful than I had ever imagined.."

She watched as he closed his eyes, opened them again, looked down at the city and the destruction she'd caused, the blessings she'd bestowed upon its inhabitants, so happy and peaceful in their deep sleep. They would never have to wake up again, never again have to worry or fear anything. They would only sleep, without even any bad dreams to haunt them. They all had their fears, their worries, their troubles--the cruel reality that they couldn't escape from. But she had blessed them with the ability to be free of that, forever.

They would be happy. And so would Pride, able to see the lovely gifts she'd given them.

He did look so happy... so in awe. And as he turned to look at her, she smiled, happy to be able to have pleased him--but she couldn't help but stare when she saw his eyes, so bright and full of life at last. She'd never seen them like that, and she wanted to take in every detail, and never forget it. She, too, had received a gift.

But tears started to stream down his face, and she bit her lip with worry, wondering what was wrong. Had she done something? Had she failed him somehow?

When he spoke, she froze, hardly believing her ears. Was that--did he mean it? More beautiful than he'd ever imagined? She hadn't seen her reflection in a while, but she wasn't that beautiful, was she?

"...You really think that?" she whispered, not sure she was capable of believing it. "I... I only wanted you to see how beautiful the city was. I didn't think I... Compared to that, I'm not really... I don't know what to say," she stammered. Ah, that was so strange. Normally she always knew, but now she was completely lost. "...Thank you..."

Fallen Achisia
The city of Kydara
Under the protection of the Council of the Six Nations

For the first time in his life, his silver eyes were no longer hollow, always covered by an opaque veil that had cursed him to a life of darkness and solitude. For the first time in his life, he was actually be to say, and he was happy, more happy than he could have imagined that a human being could ever be.. it wasn't because he could see, it was because of what he could see... he had spent just so many days and nights trying to imagine how she looked like, holding that hazy and fleeting memory of that one night when he had touched her face as close to his broken and useless heart as he could. That vague feeling of her smooth skin, those few moments in which she had allowed him to inscribe the outlines of her face into his mind..one of his greatest and most foolish desires had always been to see how she looked behind that never ending mist that covered his sight, to see if all of those dreams of her smile were true.. but never, not even in his wildest dreams had he ever imagined that she, and her smile... could be so beautiful...

For a moment, he felt as if his entire life full of suffering and pain, all that he had suffered through.. had been worth it. For this single moment, that he had been granted by fate, for this single chance that he had been given to be able to rip through the veil and to see her smiling...he would have done nearly anything. He was so happy that he felt as if he was drowning in blissfulness... no matter what was going to happen, no matter what he had to do it, he was never, never, ever going to forget this moment, to forget how she looked like, how beautiful she was.. how beautiful the smile of the girl that he loved was.

He was crying, yes, but he couldn't help it...by the Gods, how could someone like him be so happy?..

"Yes.. yes, of course that I think that.. you're more beautiful that the city and than the peace that those people have received, you are more beautiful than the crimson sky above us, you are more beautiful than the light that I could never see..I thought.. I thought that this was a dream, but no, it can't be.. because your smile is more beautiful than everything that I have ever dreamed about..", Pride rapidly tried to say, smiling even as tears continued to roll down his cheeks. 'Thank you.. thank you so much.. I had.. I had always wanted, I had always hoped that.. despite my blindness, despite everything, one day.. I always hoped that one day I would be able to truly see.. how you looked like... and I'm happy.. I'm so happy.. thank you.. thank you for showing me your smile.."

Making a step forward, he gently hugged her again, with a lot more confidence than ever before now he could actually see her.. and looking right into her eyes, silver meeting emerald.. he gently kissed her, for a brief moment, trying to transmit all that he felt but couldn't put into words. "Even.. even if I'll never be able to see again, I will never forget this.. I will never forget how your smile looked like, no matter what or who will ever try to make me forget.." And the boy hesitated. "I'm sorry.. I'm so sorry that I kept my feelings hidden from you for so long.. that I didn't tell you anything about your past, that I kept you confused and alone while I was doing my best to save you.. I was wrong, and I'm sorry that you had to suffer like that.. but no more. I've told you, I've told you that I will save you, I've told you that I will love you, and I'm so happy that you responded to my love.. from now on.. from now on, just as I am yours and yours alone, you will be mine and mine alone, no matter what.. I promise you.. I promise you no matter what or how much I forget, I will never stop loving you.."

It was.. it was nice, actually. The life that he had forgotten was just a mess of darkness and shards of horrible memories… but the life after he had been awoken on that horrible day, three years ago, hadn’t been much better. He had been hated and despised, feared and detested just for being who he was. Was is his fault that he was a slave of Invidia? Was it his fault that she was forcing him to do so many things? It wasn’t.. and yet none of them cared. In time.. he had just gotten used to it. All the little things that he always tried to do, to limit the number of those who would suffer while he had to do something horrible on her orders, all that he had ever done to avoid hurting women and children.. none of that actually mattered. He was a murderer, and he only brought pain and suffering to this world.. he was used to it. And his past, his life which he couldn’t remember, he was an Achisian necromancer, he was sure of it.. which meant that his previous life had also been one in which he had only caused death and destruction.. that’s what he had done.. that’s how he had ruined the lives of many people, including hers..

But all that Julie had told him..it was so difficult to believe but… he wanted to believe it. He wanted to believe that she was right, that there was actually something good hidden, somewhere inside of him. That all this horrible guilt that he was feeling, like shards of glass constantly piercing his heart, meant that he wasn’t all bad, that he wasn’t all evil...that maybe, maybe one day, he would be able to free himself from these chains.

Maybe that’s why he had believed it so easily. The village did indeed look vaguely familiar, and what had happened all those years ago in the forest next to it was one of the memories that had haunted his dreams.. but for him to believe that he had actually saved this village? That he had turned against those mercenaries who were fighting together with him? If he could have.. he certainly would have wanted to do it, he knew that, because even now, every time when Invidia sent him forth to spread envy and death, he always felt this vague need to hold back, to protect all those people instead of just spreading evil.. so if he had felt the same back then, and if back then, the chains that were binding his fate weren’t so tight as they were now… he would have maybe done it...he would have hated those cruel mercenaries, no matter what.

But even like that.. it was difficult to believe, that someone like him, serving the Eternal Flame and Serpent, would have been able to save a village like that. And yet.. that old lady seemed to believe it, he could feel it - she was one of those gifted with one of the miracles of Aurora, the one that allowed mortals to see the magical auras of other mortals without using any spells...and why would she be lying? And how would she know so many details, details of his previous life that he had put together from the broken memories that he shared with Krypta? And Krypta.. she hadn’t said anything.. but she believed her, she trusted what the old lady was saying, he could feel that.. so if she believed that.. then there was no reason for him to doubt it.

But it was very difficult for him to understand anything from what had happened next. Even if what those people were saying was true, even if he had saved them.. why were they so happy? Why were they acting like that, what debt were they trying to pay? They wanted to.. they wanted to celebrate him? What had happened from that point until the evening had all been some of the most confusing things that the poor Celio ever had to experience. So many people happy to see him, crying, smiling, wanting to thank him, thanking him, praising him, celebrating him.. it was.. it was as if they were happy that he existed. But why? Just one single act like that wasn’t going to just erase everything that he had done, it didn’t suddenly turn him into a good person.. so why? Why were they so happy? Why were they.. celebrating him.. as… as their hero?

He couldn’t understand it.. he was nothing like those true heroes, the mighty Seven Heroes, no, he was nothing like them at all.. and yet, they considered him to be one.. to be a hero.. and the way in which they were acting, all that they were doing, all that honest happiness and relief..it was just the complete opposite of how the people in that village had acted, in that village that he had found right after he had been awoken without any memories, those villagers who had hated him just because of the clothes that he was wearing.. these.. these people knew who he was.. they knew that he had used to be an Achisian necromancer.. and yet.. that didn’t change their opinion of him at all. They still liked him, they still considered him to be a hero.. and..

To be fair..

He loved it.

This entire day, all the time that he had spent with Julie had already been amazing, but.. for his entire life, or well, for as much of it as he remembered.. he had always wanted it. Being surrounded with so much hate, being despised for things that were out of his control..he had wanted it so much.. being an hero, being praised like a hero, having the people around him celebrate him like that..it was one of his greatest dreams. And even if he nearly couldn’t believe it.. all of this.. it.. it made him happy.

But he wasn’t sure how to react.. it’s not like he had ever been exactly outgoing, so having to deal with the attention of so many people wasn’t easy.. especially now..when so many different girls seemed to have only one goal in mind - to dance with him. He couldn’t understand it...even if they believed that he was a hero and all of that, there had to be another reason for why so many of them wanted to dance with him, right? There had to be one, but he couldn’t comprehend it.. and he couldn’t spend too much time thinking about it either. Because he was busy with something else.. ever since he had learned that there would be dancing.. his mind had been focused on a single thing.. on her...

He wanted to thank her for it, for all of it, and inviting her to a dance seemed like a polite, normal way of doing it.. no.. why was he even looking for such excuses? Maybe because.. because he was confused. Because he couldn’t understand. He was grateful because of everything that she had done for him.. but this.. this didn’t feel like gratitude. It also wasn’t that weird feeling of wanting to protect her that he had felt back in that ruined city in the past.. it was.. it was something that he couldn’t understand. And when he was thinking about it like that.. even this entire celebration, this entire dream of his of being a hero, of being acclaimed like one.. it didn’t seem to matter that much anymore...he wanted.. he wanted to be with her.. to spend time with her..he didn’t want any of these other girls, he wanted to dance with her.. he wanted to see her smile again..But as always, he was completely lost as to what he could do. He found many different ways to politely reject some of these girls, but there were so many of them..what could he even do? This was getting more and more embarrassing by the minute.. why was attacking an enemy fort so easy, but gathering his courage just to try.. to try to ask her for a dance so difficult?

And just when he was ready to perhaps try.. he was suddenly surprised by that same old lady as before, who suddenly grabbed him by the hand, and dragged him out of that group of girls..stopping right in front of Julie only to grab her by her hand too, and then she dragged them both in the middle of the square, where the others were dancing..

As soon as she let go of their hands..she said that they should dance, telling Julie that he had been trying to think of a way to ask her.. which of course, instantly made him blush. He wasn’t ready for this, he wasn’t ready for any of this, he wasn’t sure what to do, what to say.. and yet, for a moment.. he gathered all the strength that he had, as he hesitantly looked at her.. “Would you.. would you.. would you like.. to... d-dance w-with m-me?..", he tried to say, offering her his hand.. and for a brief moment, he closed his eyes... and then he heard it. "O-of course..." , she managed to answer, and she placed her hand in his own..and at that moment, Celio was sure that if he still would have had a proper heart.. it would have certainly skipped a beat. His face lit up and he smiled without even thinking about it, as he swung her into the dance, both of them still blushing. He had no idea how to dance properly, how could he?..But both of them just seemed to move in their own way, following the rhythm of the music.. and that didn't matter anyway.. he was with her, he was holding her hands, they were dancing..and he was happy.

He was still embarrassed, of course, very much so, so he tried not to look at her directly.. but he couldn't help but steal a glance at her from time to time..he couldn't help but think that not all that much time had passed ever since they had firstly met..but now.. it was.. it was just so difficult to imagine his lie without her. She was so close to him right now, but.. it was her.. she was the same girl who had confronted him back in that little city. The girl who had reacted to him not taking her seriously by clumsily provoking him to a duel, by throwing her glove right into his face. The same girl who had nearly buried him alive, believing that he was dead while he had been just asleep.. the same girl who had followed him into the past, who had forgiven him for what he had done, who hadn’t abandoned him even if she would have had all the right to just leave him behind... The same girl who had fought against that Justitia twice, who had risked her life, her position, everything, just in order to save him from the Faith.. the same girl who had tried to fight against him during that horrible night in which he had no control over his actions.. the brave girl who had managed to stop him from causing too much pain and suffering..

And it was her who had managed to clear the clouds of dark thoughts and feelings that were surrounding him. It was her who had tried to help him right when he had nearly abandoned all hope.. and over a single day.. over a single day she had managed to help him just so much. And it was her, not any of the other girls, it was her.. it was her who made him feel so happy. She was beautiful.. she had been beautiful from the beginning of course, but now..it was so easy for him to imagine her like one of those angels that he had heard so much about.. but that wasn't.. that wasn't all...

And as he was thinking about all of it like that..he realized something..something that was so obvious, so clear that he couldn't understand why he hadn't noticed it earlier. All of it, the last weeks, the last day, had been.. had been so good because of her.. it wasn't the flowers who had made him happy.. the tranquility of the nature, the happy atmosphere of the village or the celebrations that had made all of those bad thoughts go away, that had made him feel like that.. it was her.. it was her.. For these few moments, none of the things that normally tormented him, that normally made him feel horrible mattered.. he was happy.. he was calm.. and this feeling, this amazing feeling of just being with her, away from all of that.. made him say something without even thinking about it...but it was the truth.. this was the happiest he had ever been..

She said that she wanted him to be happy, and then she reminded him of something that he had forgotten - that back in the morning, he had given her exactly one day to do whatever she wanted in her attempt to make him find something worth living for.. and now she asked him that.. if he had found a reason to keep living...and he only needed a couple of moments to think about it. He wasn't sure why, and he couldn't understand this warm feeling in his chest...but the celebrations, the nature, the world itself, none of that mattered. He had.. he had found something.. something that was worth living for. "Yes.. I.. I found one..a reason.. a reason to live..", he said, looking directly at her, blue meeting crimson as she looked back at him..both of them blushing, their cheeks hot and red.. and slowly, they stopped dancing, they stopped moving, just looking at each other like that.. They were just so close to each other that he felt as if he had to hold his breath... and for a moment, they just stood there in silence..but both of them knew that it was coming. He hesitated for a moment, before he leaned forward.. and he kissed her. Their lips touched for as long as it would take to count a couple of heartbeats, and then, as it ended, Celio gathered ever last bit of courage that he still had inside of him. "It's.. you.."

"Alina.. there is.. there is nothing that you have to be sorry about..", Rafal tried to say, his voice soft, sad and yet glad at the same time.

Finally, the rush of the past day was coming to an end. First, he had endured the deal with Outcast to save Rafal, his stinging palm reminding him of the fact, but he found no regret in knowing he had done something to help the older boy in the end. Then, there was the whole ordeal of meeting Rafal's relic and his griffin, both equally weird and intriguing events; not that he really understood either of them. He did quite like the griffin though; he seemed very cool to the 10-year old boy...perhaps even cooler then, was the fact that when Rafal had donned his armor, Wulf had gotten a set of his own. It was admittedly a little large, clearly not made for children of his age, but he felt powerful in it nonetheless. Even so, he couldn't deny that riding so high in the air on the back of a griffin was nothing less of a terrifying feat...amazing, perhaps, but still scary.

When they had landed, Rafal immediately running to help Alina, the brown-haired boy sighed with relief. He quickly pulled the helmet off of his messy hair, finding relief in getting the weight off his small shoulders, but...finding that the act caused his balance to offset, sounding a yelp of surprise as he fell off the side of the griffin. And, well, he was once more surprised as he gently floated to the ground rather than immediately hitting the dirt, allowing him time to place his oversized boots safely onto the ground below him. There, he gently brushed some residing dirt off of his armor, and when he looked up, he was happy to see Rafal and Alina gushing over each other...well, he had to admit it was a little gross. He never liked romance stuff. He always found it kind of icky.

Regardless, he didn't have much time to contemplate it before he was gripped by his neck, evoking a yelp of surprise as he was. He couldn't completely see who'd grabbed him, but by the cloth on his arm, white and accented, he assumed it was one of the people from before... he whispered that it didn't end there, calling them sinners, attempting to pull a knife as he breathed the words into the boy's ear. His face contorted into fear. "H-help..!" He cried, but as he did, he realized it would take them too long to get over to help him in time. By the time they did, he would likely already be dead from a knife would or otherwise...and, perhaps, panicked and not thinking logically, he came to one solution. One he...really didn't like. "Let...let me go!" He yelled, angrily, squeezing his eyes shut as he thought of what he wanted this man to feel. Pain, yes, enough to make him release him, but not cripple him mentally...he wanted to focus it, perhaps mainly to his torso, his arms, his legs...

And it worked. The symbol on his hand burned with the effort of his power, and as the man cried in pain and released him, Wulf quickly jogged a safe distance away and turned. The man had stumbled away in pain, though not completely crippled, and Wulf was...surprised, honestly. Had he been able to control himself? Had he really been able to focus this time? He smiled in light of this, but quickly glanced at Rafal and Alina to make sure they were unaffected before he turned back to the man. He was angry, maybe a little unsettled, but...he almost...wanted to cause him a lot of pain...and with a smile on his face still, glee in his wide eyes, he began to increase the intensity of the pain in the man...

Until he realized what he was doing, of course. He blinked, his frown returning, releasing his hand in surprise of himself, all of the pain leaving the man before him. Why did he want to hurt him? Why did it make him happy? That wasn't normal...he was supposed to help people, not hurt them! Tears welled in his eyes at this realization, wondering what he had done, what he was going to do, afraid of himself once more. What kind of freak kid liked to cause pain to people..? More importantly, how would Rafal and Alina feel about that? He...was too afraid to look and see, and instead, struggled to contain his tears of shame as he watched the man...but now, he seemed distracted and distant, as if he didn't care anymore...

Tracian Empire wrote:As soon as she let go of their hands..she said that they should dance, telling Julie that he had been trying to think of a way to ask her.. which of course, instantly made him blush.

"It's.. you.."

As Julie awaited his response, she couldn't help but avert her eyes in an attempt to cool herself down. She was afraid if she blushed anymore, she might burst a blood vessel or something--which, obviously, would be no good...but when he spoke again, that he had found a reason, she met his gaze with a sense of anticipation. She didn't want to be selfish, she didn't want to be self-involved, but she hoped so badly that he would say her name, that he would smile and say he was hers, that somehow, she had been able to win his affection. She wasn't entirely sure why she felt compelled to want this, she wasn't supposed to; she was supposed to hate him, to want to convert him and leave it at that, but she guessed she simply couldn't help the way she felt...

Despite the occasional fight, she had always felt compelled to be near him, to follow him, to help him...and it wasn't just because of her purpose. She just...enjoyed being around him. It was refreshing to be around someone who wasn't fake, didn't pity her, didn't judge her...who honestly accepted her for who she was, despite their differences. She felt...more comfortable around her mortal enemy than she ever had around the other Servants of Light or the Faith. Perhaps that was just the way things were meant to be...but he was supposed to hate her, just as she was supposed to hate him, and she feared that he leaned towards their supposed fate than she did. And yet, his blush and sincere gaze told her otherwise. And yet, she felt magnetized to him, unable to keep herself from leaning to him, her self control perhaps completely evaporated...and yet...

Their lips met, perhaps half to her surprise, half to her excitement as her heart sped up. She couldn't think straight, her mind completely blanked, overwhelmingly elated by the fact that he had the same idea as her. Despite only being seconds, the kiss seemed to last forever, as if time had slowed in the act...and she enjoyed it--she didn't want it to end. It hadn't been like the kiss the night before, the one she had used to trick him, to stun him; this was sincere, honest...loving. It was like fireworks were going off in her brain. Her heart raced, drumming in her ears, and as he pulled away and mentioned the reason really was her, one could practically see the steam coming out of her ears. She seemed starstruck for a moment, not completely coherently thinking even after the kiss, as if she couldn't believe that anything that was happening was real. Not that one could really blame her; she hadn't connected the dots that he had truly liked her until that moment.

Finally, the realization of what had happened and what he'd said kicked in, and she covered her face with her hands in embarrassment. "Y-you can't s-say stuff like that..! I-I might just explode right here..!" She stuttered quickly, half-joking, clearly more embarrassed that she'd grown even more flustered than before by his comment, even if had been the answer she had wanted. Her heart still thumped loudly in her ears, but finally, she moved two of her fingers to peek at his own reaction, his face, his lips--and in a moment, she had lost her self control once more. She kissed him again, perhaps a bit more messily and less calculated than before, only lasting a second or two before she buried her face into his chest in embarrassment, wrapping her arms tightly around him as if she was afraid that if she opened her eyes, if she pulled away, she would realize that this was all in her head, that it was all fake, that she had tricked herself into thinking this happened... "...and...t-this is real, isn't it..?" She asked quietly, nervously, her face pressed so tightly against his chest she was afraid he would feel the heat radiating off her face...not that it made her stop, of course. "...please tell me this is real..."

Castle Von Schmidt, Velikiya

Darkness and nightmares plagued Arthur the second he had fallen on that field of battle in Achisia, drenched in the blood of the witch he had killed and his own. He saw a serpent in the sky, raining fire down upon its enemies. Men, women, children, kings, lords, priests, all burning the same. He saw the faces of his fallen comrades and his fallen enemies, all with the same look of terror on their faces as they died. Was he dying?

Suddenly, Arthur awoke in his bed, jolting up. He immediately felt an excruciating pain in his side, and his shoulder burned as he attempted to lay back down. It was several weeks after the battle of Peremoha, where the forces of the human realms had been overwhelmed by as yet unknown attackers. Arthur had been saved by the scripture knights of his order and men under his command from Velikiya, all fearing that the wounds he had taken were mortal. However Arthur was healed by skilled mages from the Ecclesiarchy and was soon sent back on his way to Velikiya albeit in a coma from using so much mana. Though the fort was lost, Arthur was heralded as a brave and skilled commander who exemplified the virtues of the Ecclesiarchy's knightly Scriptures and the Velikiyan Knights of the Black Sun.

The situation in Velikiya had also reached a turning point, as many Velikiyan princes who were yet undecided on who to support in the civil war for the throne now supported Arthur's claim over Prinz Alexander. It now seemed inevitable that the civil war could only be resolved by battle, as Alexander now deemed it the right time to strike against his main rival against the throne...

Somewhere
The border between Wyzkia and the Ecclesiarchy

As he was hugging her like that.. it seemed that nothing else mattered anymore. It was as if all the horrible memories of the previous night just evaporated. It didn't matter anymore that so many people had died in the chaos in that camp.. that he had nearly died with poison burning through his veins, lost in a forest, that he had nearly lost her, captured by those disgusting Faith Keepers who Gods know what would have done to her.. that he had nearly broken his promise to protect her....the fear that he had felt, grasping his heart, even as he was slowly dying and in pain, that something would happen to her, that she would be hurt without him being able to defend her.. none of that mattered anymore, none of that mattered here and now, now that he had found her, now that they were together, now that he was hugging her. He was going to protect her from anyone and anything.. even if the entire world would have been against them. Now, with his new powers, with the relic and with his bonded griffin.. he could say that. He could finally keep his promise. And hearing her whispers, hearing her say that she wanted to come with him, that she was alright with it, that she wanted him to be her knight, and as she clung to him even more tightly.. his heart skipped a beat. He was happy.. he truly was, but he had no idea what else to say.. so he just hugged her back, just as tightly, once again feeling as if he wanted to cry. "It's.. it's alright..you can stay with me.. and I will be here for you, no matter what.."

But just as he felt as if the world around them didn't matter anymore.. the illusion was promptly broken by Wulf crying for help. Letting go of Alina, and turning around, Rafal noticed the Faith Keeper who was holding the boy, and the knife.. the griffin had noticed it too, but all of them were too far away to react in time.. and for a moment, the green eyed paladin felt a twinge of fear, that even as he thought that everything was safe.. someone around him might suddenly die, without him being able to do anything.. just like last night, with the Grand Duke..it was horrible, horrible, horrible..

But suddenly, the Faith Keeper started to scream in pain, releasing the boy.. and for a heartbeat, Rafal hesitated, remembering what had happened the first time when they had met Wulf, expecting to feel the same horrifying pain again..but nothing of the sort happened, and while still confused.. Rafal realized that the Grand Duke had been right in putting his faith in the little boy. Somehow...somehow Wulf seemed to be able to use his power against a single person, without hurting anyone else.. and only as he noticed the glowing mark in Wulf's palm did Rafal also realize that maybe.. maybe that strange deity also had something to do with it...and it was because of the glowing mark that Rafal completely missed the smile, and the moment when the boy had really, really wanted to hurt that man.. and by the time when Rafal finally arrived next to him, that moment was over. Tears were welling in Wulf's eyes, and the man, scared and broken and shivering, simply stood up, turning around, and ran away.. with Rafal making no effort to try to run after him.

The moment of danger had passed, and with the tension gone, Rafal dropped his unsheathed sword, and knelt down next to Wulf, so that their faces could be on the same level. "Are you alright?", the boy asked, just how worried he was clear by how he was looking at the younger boy, as he gently put his hand on Wulf's shoulder. "It's alright now..", the paladin tried to say, with the griffin also stopping next to them. Having shared their master's concern about Alina, neither the griffin, nor the relic had felt that Faith Keeper in time.. but now, with them alerted, Rafal felt that everything was safe.. "It's alright...they're gone now.. and you've managed to defend yourself.. you should be proud of yourself for that.."And Rafal tried to smile, to reassure him..

"I can't say that I understand you, master. Why would you want to defend this boy? You are not a full paladin yet, so you are not bound by their tenets.. and even if you would have been, your failure to protect him would have been understandable. You really are a weird master..", a voice was heard behind them, and sure enough.. the sword had disappeared, replaced with the same girl from before, the girl that Alina had never seen before, the relic, with her iron-like, grayish hair, dark gray eyes, just too beautiful to be human, nearly doll-like in appearance..and with her voice so emotionless and empty that one could nearly imagine her as a sword. "However.. I suppose that you understand why you want to defend the girl so much. Males of most species should try to defend their females, and I suppose that you would be more than willing to die to defend your mate, especially if she is carrying your offspring.."

"However.. I suppose that you understand why you want to defend the girl so much. Males of most species should try to defend their females, and I suppose that you would be more than willing to die to defend your mate, especially if she is carrying your offspring.."
She clung to Rafal for as long as she could, until he pulled away at Wulf's cry--she flinched at the sight of the boy in danger, cursing herself in her mind for not noticing sooner, not doing something, but then the man started to scream in agony.

She remembered what Wulf had done before, with that horrible pain, and that awful twisting feeling inside her, and she couldn't help but feel cold terror clouding her mind. Yet none of the pain reached her, as if he'd learned to control it, and the man disappeared quickly. She was so confused, didn't understand what was happening--but they were safe. She was safe, wasn't she? Everything was going to be all right. That had to be true, now.

As Rafal tried to reassure Wulf, she hung back slightly, not knowing what to do or say to help. As such, when another voice cut through the air, she turned around in fear, not knowing who it was--and there was a strange girl there, calling Rafal her master, and then calling Alina...

Her face flushed bright red, both in embarrassment and shame, and she backed away slightly, not meeting the strange girl's eyes. "I'm not... We aren't," she tried, stammering, her hands shaking slightly. "He's--he's engaged to someone else, and anyway, I wouldn't--"

I wouldn't do anything like that. I wouldn't. Not if I had a choice. I'm not a whore, I'm not--

The last statement seemed far more absurd to her. What sort of assumption was that? Whoever this girl was, she was just so wrong, about everything. That was the end of it, she supposed, but it was so embarrassing, so humiliating to hear this stranger talking about her like that, to be reduced to that, even though she knew that in the end that was the only thing a girl like her could ever be. She wasn't a fighter or a powerful mage, so she didn't have anything else she could be...

But the other girl was still wrong, she was definitely wrong. Alina wasn't like that. Not at all.

"Please," she whispered, looking in Rafal's direction with a hint of pain visible on her face. "Tell her... I'm not..."

Somewhere
A village

Those few, fleeting moments seemed to have lasted for an eternity..it was as if suddenly, rays of light had broken through the darkness that had been surrounding him for so long. For those few seconds, it was as if nothing else mattered, as if, for as long as they were together, everything was going to be alright. And what he had said just before was true.. he had never imagined that a human being could ever be this happy.. he had no idea that such happiness could be his...that such a heartwarming feeling could exist in their cruel and ugly world. That single moment...it was as if all of his suffering, all of the pain that he had to endure for the past few years had been worth it.. only for that single kiss. And like that.. the boy finally realized that the reason for why he wanted to live, to survive, to stay in this world.. it was her.. and with all of the courage that he had left, as their kiss ended... he told her that...

And then..as she covered her face with her hands, blushing heavily, telling him that he can't just say stuff like that, and that she might just explode..it finally dawned on him what had just happened, what he had just said, and that he had told her that she was his reason to live..he nearly exploded in embarrassment too, just how hard he was blushing even more obvious because of his paler skin. He opened his mouth as if he wanted to apologize, unable to look directly at her, and he nearly made a step back, confused.. so many thoughts were racing through his mind that he had no idea what to do....why did he say something like that? Why did they.. why did they kiss? H-how could, how could they have..that was so selfish of him.. why.. why hadn't he thought about it first? Why hadn't he thought about her first, which hadn't he checked if she was alright, but why would she? What if she disliked it, or what if she was actually happy too? What if she wasn't going to forgive him for that, or what if she had enjoyed it too? What if she was going to hate him because of that, or what if...?What if this was going to upset her, what if she was happy, what if she was going to cry, but she wasn't crying..

It was such a jumbled mess of happy and sad thoughts, and he was already all red and hot and embarrassed, and like that, he failed to notice how Julie was peeking at him, and before he was even able to realize what was happening..she moved forward.. and their lips touched again. His mind went blank, suddenly emptied of anything and everything.. it was like an electric spark. It only lasted for a couple seconds, but once again.. it was as if their lips were together for much longer than that... before she finally pulled away, and then, to his surprise, the blue eyed girl buried her face into his chest, only giving him a glimpse of her blushing expression before she wrapped her arms around him. He nearly recoiled in shock, feeling her so close, with her hugging him..why would she be doing something like that? Why would she kiss him back? Why would she.. why would she..? He instinctively wanted to take a step back, to push her away, unused to someone holding him like that, but he closed his eyes for a few moments, taking a few deep breaths..desperately trying to remain calm, even if he was blushing even stronger than before (if that was even possible). And then, hesitantly.. he slowly put his arms around her, hugging her back, even if her face was pressed so tightly against his chest that he could feel the warmth of her face.. so tightly, that she could maybe notice again that his heart wasn't beating..

"It's.. it's r-real.. I.. I think..", the boy tried to answer, still taking deep breaths, his voice shaking.. also feeling the need to just hold her close, to hug her, her presence and her warmth being a physical reminder that yes, this was really happening, this was no dream, this was real..all of it, their kiss, her reacting to him kissing her and to what he said by kissing him back, and then by hugging her..her responding to his affection like that.. it was almost.. almost too good to be true. The fear that this was all just a dream, his imagination, or that she would suddenly become cold, and that she would push him away and hate him.. that fear, that horrifying fear was like shards of glass piercing through his heart. Too horrible to even think about.. he had absolutely no idea what this feeling was, this happy and fuzzy feeling that was warming his heart.. but he.. he hoped that she was feeling the same.. even if he couldn't.. even if he couldn't even begin to imagine why she would feel like that.. why she would accept to be kissed by someone like him. "And.. I w-was.. t-telling the t-truth..", he tried to tell her, feeling all of his courage leaving him. "B-but.. w-why?", he tried to ask, so many different feelings and questions all brought together into one.. a few moments of silence passed, as Celio was trying to realize what was happening, while trying to resist the urge to hug her even tighter than that, to make sure that she was actually there, so tight that the world around them would lose its meaning.. "Why.. why are you d-doing this.. w-why.. are you.. are you alright w-with this..? With k-kissing and h-hugging..with.. someone.. someone like me?"

As Rafal dropped his sword and knelt next to the young boy, he couldn't help but take a step back in fear. Not in fear of the boy at his side, but of himself, really--he was afraid of hurting him, of wanting to hurt him, even if he felt no desire to at the time. Rafal asked if he was alright, but the tears were already flowing down the boy's cheeks as his wide-eyed, fearful expression crumpled with the tears on his face. "I-I don't know..." He responded softly, clearly trying to hold his sobs in. He didn't understand--why wasn't Rafal afraid of him? How could he be so relaxed about approaching him after seeing that? Why wasn't he running away, like everyone else did..?

He stood rigid as Rafal placed his hand on his shoulder, telling him it was alright, their eyes locked before the boy crumpled, choking back a sob as he threw his arms around the armored boy in front of him, squeezing his eyes shut as he held him tightly. "i-I didn't want to hurt anyone...I-I wasn't going to--but he--he pulled a knife out...h-he was going to kill me..." He hiccuped, holding so tightly onto the boy, almost as if he feared what was happening was just a dream. He had been so used to fear and aversion because of his powers, that it was rare for someone to show him kindness so immediately after seeing something like that...it was hard to fathom that such a thing could even be real to Wulf. Rafal comforted him, explaining that it was alright, that they were gone and that he defended himself, that he should be proud of it...and the boy choked back another sob. "I-I can't be proud..I-I hurt him...I wanted to hurt him...i-I was so s-scared...I...I-I'm s-sorry..." He told him softly, and, for once, he seemed to truly be the child he was supposed to be--not the cold-shelled boy he had been forced to grow into.

After a moment of hanging onto the boy, trying to stop his crying, calming down atleast a little...Wulf finally began listening to what that Sword Woman was saying. She spoke of understanding defending Alina, that it would make sense for them to want to die for their "mate," especially if she was carrying his...offspring? He could only vaguely recall what that meant from his little education he had gotten back in Histria, that it had something to do with pregnancy, and...well, he was old enough to be able to vaguely put two and two together. He released Rafal from his grip, wiping his wet cheeks away with his gloves, confusion seeming apparent on his face as he looked at the Sword Woman. "N-no, but that doesn't...make sense..." He spoke, his voice wobbly, slightly unsure of himself, seeming...confused. "They haven't even done it yet!! How could she be pregnant?" He answered, almost childishly, following Alina's denial. "I don't think you can get pregnant without doing it..."

It was such a jumbled mess of happy and sad thoughts, and he was already all red and hot and embarrassed, and like that, he failed to notice how Julie was peeking at him, and before he was even able to realize what was happening..she moved forward.. and their lips touched again. "And.. I w-was.. t-telling the t-truth..", he tried to tell her, feeling all of his courage leaving him. "B-but.. w-why?", he tried to ask, so many different feelings and questions all brought together into one.. a few moments of silence passed, as Celio was trying to realize what was happening, while trying to resist the urge to hug her even tighter than that, to make sure that she was actually there, so tight that the world around them would lose its meaning.. "Why.. why are you d-doing this.. w-why.. are you.. are you alright w-with this..? With k-kissing and h-hugging..with.. someone.. someone like me?"

As she stood there, her face buried into her supposed-Archenemies chest, her arms wrapped tightly around him, she was...afraid. Despite the fact that he had initiated the kiss, she was...terrified that it was a joke. That he would shove her away and laugh at her, that he would remark about how foolish she was, how stupid she was, how terribly naive and hopeless she was...that, or she was afraid it would only be a moment before she felt a blade plunge into her back, luring her in with affection and adoration as the perfect opportunity for her to lower her guard and take out his mortal enemy for good...yet, despite the mounting fears in both of their minds...they stayed. And she waited, her face pressed against his empty chest as she waited for something, anything...and then--she...felt him take a few deep breaths and, carefully, easily, he wrapped his arms around her in return. She resisted the urge to gasp in surprise, and instead, gripped the fabric of the back of his jacket tightly as she blushed even more.

He responded that he also thought this was real, taking more deep breaths--and it was easy to tell that he was embarrassed, too, even with the absence of a heartbeat. It was...comforting, almost, to know that he felt the same way she did. Yes, then it must mean that his feelings were genuine, that he really did, truly, honestly like her...the idea of it simply made her want to squeal with embarrassment. She took shaky, light breaths, almost unable to breathe at all, her heart racing as they hugged each other for what felt like an eternity. Finally, he spoke; telling her it was the truth...but he didn't wait but a moment later to ask...why. Why..? She gently lifted her face from his chest, looking up to watch him as he spoke, their arms still wrapped around one another. Her face was still very pink. He was asking...why she was alright with kissing and hugging him, or--more specifically, someone like him. She paused for a moment before she smiled warmly; the answer was simple. For her it was, atleast. "Well--it's because I like you." She responded before she rested her head against his chest, still keeping her arms tight around him, imagining what it would be like to hear his heartbeat... "I...don't think it gets more simple than that...I--you're the only one that's ever taken me seriously, who's ever listened to me, the only one who's ever spent the time to actually talk to me and understand me..." She went quiet for a moment before her smile returned, and she blushed a little more. "Plus, I--I think you're pretty cute, when you aren't being all broody and evil atleast. And...I like your smile, and I think you're pretty nice, and..." She had turned bright red as she trailed off again, realizing what she was saying. "Ohh, sorry, I--I didn't mean to go off like that..." She spoke, wishing she could hit herself over the head for saying something like that... "B-but...it's true...a-and I...I do mean it. I...I--I think you're...pretty great." She finished softly, wishing to bury her face once more...

...but her moment of embarrassment was quickly ended as Julie's eyes spotted that same old lady from before making her way to them once more. She had a giant, hearty grin on her face as she looked to them. "Well, I see that tonight has gone very well for the two of you!" She spoke in a happy tone, clasping her hands together as if she had just heard or seen the greatest news... "I'm very happy to see you two getting along so well, but--I see you might not have noticed, but it's getting late, and before I head off to sleep myself, I thought it would be nice to give you two somewhere to stay for the night!" She spoke cheerily, and, without further word, just as Julie was beginning to protest, she tugged both of their wrists to get them to follow her...

And, of course, they had both failed to notice that many of the villagers were beginning to head home for the night, beginning to distinguish the beautiful multicolored fires as they did. With not much else choice, Celio and Julie began following the old lady, who began to babble on about the village and their nightly routines...but as they did, the brunette noticed some of the beautiful girls from before on the side of the square. Some of them seemed angry, others disappointed and...some were crying? Many of them cast angry glares to her...but...Julie couldn't feel very upset. Not only was she still on a high from all of the elated feelings she was having tonight, she also had the one thing they could never gain--Celio's affection. So, albeit a bit smugly, she gently slipped her arm around Celio's as they walked, unable to keep a smile off her face as they did.

Not much time later, the old woman led them to a large stoned building, adorned with many windows and labeled with a giant sign indicating that it was, in fact, an inn. "Here we are, one of the best--and only--inns we have in town!" She exclaimed proudly, leading them into the building. The innkeeper had fallen asleep beside the fireplace that lingered in the main room, so, in respect to that, the woman quickly gave them the sign to be quiet as she led them up the stairs of the inn, down one of the stoned hallways to a wooden door labeled with an iron number. "Well, here we are! You two will be staying here tonight--and oh, I do apologize, but this is the only room we have right now...every other one is taken, so I'm afraid you two will have to share a room...but don't worry about paying, tonight will be on the house, my gift to our wonderful hero!" She spoke, but...the tone she had almost gave the impression she was lying about the vacancy. Regardless, Julie blushed bright red at the idea of having to share a room with a boy...and him of all boys! It had to be the one she liked, didn't it..? Oh, but she supposed she would prefer it that way anyways...right..? "Ah, t-thank you for your kindness..." She stuttered slightly, giving a nervous smile. "Really, you have been a truly wonderful host for us."

The old lady smiled and shook her head. "No need to thank me, I'm only paying back the kindness this young man had shown us so many years ago!" She responded, turning her golden expression to Celio for a moment. "Well, I should let you two get some rest now, have a little fun and relaxation..." She spoke once more, before another grin spread across her face. "But not too much fun now, you should try to get atleast a little sleep tonight, and that would be no good to be more tired tomorrow than you were tonight!" She laughed, finally leaving them be with a final "good night!" as she rounded the corner of the hallway. And...well, Julie was very clearly bright, bright red. She couldn't have meant that...right..? But she had made it seem very clear...oh--how embarrassing... "A-ah, I-I don't think she h-has to worry about that..." She spoke, laughing nervously as she blushed furiously, "...right..?" She paused for a moment, asking in a rhetorical way--a joke, almost, before she realized she had made it sound more like a question...blushing even moreso, realizing her mistake in perhaps implying that to him, she wished she could hide her face once more. "Y-You know what let's just go inside!" She replied quickly, not waiting for an answer as she pushed open the door to the room...and being greeted with a single bed, and a bearskin rug on the stone floor. Great...the embarrassment just doesn't end...does it..?

Somewhere
The border between Wyzkia and the Ecclesiarchy

Rafal had certainly not expected for the boy to react like that, to hug him, crying..for how brave Wulf always tried to be, it was rather easy to forget that in the end, he was just a lonely and lost boy, who had stumbled upon them by chance. He was no ordinary child, that much was obvious, and his power was unlike anything that he had ever seen before, a weird type of magic that the Faith would loathe.. a magic that sort of reminded him of the horrors of the War of the Seven Realms. And truth be told, had it not been for the Grand Duke and the trust that he had shown to Wulf, Rafal, as a knight in training, would have been inclined to distrust and to detest the boy.. even more so after his power had hurt Alina like that.. But the old Duke had seen beyond that, and now, Rafal was also able to see that behind this weird power that Wulf was only now starting to learn how to control.. there is just a scared little boy... "It's alright.. it's alright..", he tried to say, hugging the boy back, even if this was made a little difficult by all the armor. "I know, you were just defending yourself.. that Faith Keeper tried to attack you from behind, to take advantage of your weakness.. there is no honor in what he did, and no shame in fighting back.." And then, the green eyed paladin sighed. He remembered.. he remembered that he used to be like that too... He remembered how he had felt.. back when he had hurt another human being for the first time.. and how he had felt when he had killed someone for the first time. It wasn't the same thing.. a sword was much easier to control than magic, and he had his father with him back then.. his father, and his belief that what he was doing was right, that he was fighting for good, against evil, with honor.. Wulf had none of that. And yet.. "All humans and weak.. and often, our feelings can take over us. Hate, the desire for revenge..what's important is to fight against such feelings. To do your best.. to do what's right.. to rise above your weakness..", he tried to say, remembering what his father had once told him. "And you stopped. You could have hurt that guy a lot more than that.. but in the end, you stopped. And that's what important. I don't think that you're a bad person, and the Duke didn't think that either..so I'm sure that one day, you will learn how to control your feelings, and your powers...and we will help you."

And with that, Rafal stood up, with the boy finally letting go of him.. just as the relic started to speak... and it took the confused Rafal a few good moments to fully comprehend what his sword had just said. The green eyed boy immediately also blushed, clearly embarrassed by how the ashen haired girl seemed to believe that.. that he and Alina were together...especially since she described it in such a.. primal, and bad way. He opened his mouth, trying to say something, but Wulf intervened..making him feel even more ashamed about all of this.. while at the same time, the boy's childish understanding of all of this awoke some memories that Rafal didn't even want to think about..of that journey.. and of Alina's memories that he had witnessed. And when Alina whispered to him, looking as if she was on the verge of crying.. Rafal felt as if little thorns were piercing his heart. Even if he was still blushing, this was more than enough to make him put his own embarrassment aside and to talk.

"Why would you say something like that?", he asked the strange girl who had been his normal sword until a few hours before. "And why would you put it that way? We're.. not together in any way, and.. what's with that lie? She's not carrying any offspring or anything like that.. You should apologize, now!", he tried to tell her, his behavior forced a little, in an attempt to be stricter, to act more like a master should.. And yet, despite all of that, despite the reactions of all three of them.. the relic continued to look just like a doll, cold, and emotionless.. maybe just somewhat confused. "You are not engaged? Is she not your betrothed? Then why did you fight against the Faith's Judgement in order to save her? Why did you go to such great lengths?", she asked, her voice as ice... and then she remained quiet for a few moments, coming to some sort of a realization. "Then.. is she your mistress? I'm sorry master, I know how young men and women are, but I can not allow you to sully the name of the House of Opalinski like this. You shame your ancestors by being together with such a woman."

Rafal was too shocked to be able to answer.. but his embarrassment quickly seemed to turn into anger. And yet, before he was able to say anything, the relic made a step forward, towards him. "But you should at least take the responsibility for the child that you have given her. I don't know what lies she has been feeding to you, but she is pregnant. Come on, feel the child's mana!", she said, taking his hand into hers. Rafal once again opened his mouth, trying to something.. but he slowly closed it as the relic touched his hand..and his expression quickly turned into one of shock. It was almost as if you could physically see him turning pale..and a very confused green eyed boy looked at the ground, avoiding to look directly at Alina, hesitating.. without realizing that his reaction had already said too much.

Letting go of her master's hand, the relic then turned around, looking at Alina with her hollow, gray eyes. "You can't deny it..", she told her, quickly covering the distance between them in a couple of steps - stopping right in front of the pink haired girl and taking hold of her hands. "You can feel it, can't you? The child's mana and presence.. inside of you.."

This can't be happening.

No, it wasn't possible. As soon as the other girl said it, as soon as she saw that expression on Rafal's face, as soon as that feeling welled up inside her, Alina immediately started to deny it in her mind--there was no way, no possible way that she could be--it just wasn't possible. Her voice was soft as she repeated what she'd just heard, bewildered, confused, incredulous, trying to deny--

"I'm... pregnant?"

And yet, she wasn't stupid. There was no way she could not be, really. Hadn't she spent more than enough time with Luxuria, been used more times than she could count--after all that time, the idea that she could have escaped this eventuality was absurd, and she knew it. She'd always known, really. She hadn't bled in--how long had it been? The time she'd spent with them had felt like entire lifetimes, but surely it hadn't been more than a few months at the most--more than long enough for her to become pregnant, anyway, so it didn't matter. But she hadn't wanted to think about it, she hadn't wanted to admit it. Having a child was supposed to be a blessing, wasn't it? But she didn't feel blessed at all.

"Then... I'm going to... I'm going to have a baby," she said in a frighteningly empty voice, as if seeking some sort of confirmation. Her eyes were hollow and lifeless, with no light inside them--just blank, glassy pink, staring into nothing. "But I can't, I don't..." Her voice faltered, and she lowered her head, her last words coming out in barely a whisper. "I don't want to..."

It would've happened eventually, she knew that. She'd known that for a long time--but in her mind, it had been different. It was silly. She'd always been such a dreamer. Gods, she wished she hadn't been so stupid. Why couldn't it all just be a nightmare? At the very least, couldn't this be a nightmare? She didn't want to be pregnant--she didn't want to have a child at all, much less because of them. She wasn't supposed to end up like this--she was supposed to find someone she actually loved, someone her father would approve of, marry them and have a good future, or at the very least someone she could tolerate, could learn to care for--children, eventually, that was a wife's duty after all, but not like this, not like this. Of all the possibilities she had imagined for her future, this had never been one of them. With no family or husband--or even the hope of one--to defend her, then she was just a whore, alone and pregnant with the child of a man whose identity she couldn't even begin to guess at...

She touched her stomach gently, placing her hand over where she knew the child--her child--was growing, tucked away inside her, her body the only thing protecting it from the world. She could feel it due to the relic's magic, but she couldn't see any evidence that it was there--if someone didn't already know, they'd never be able to guess--but they would, soon. It was so small now, but it wouldn't stay that way for long. It would grow, and keep growing, until its presence was impossible to deny, and then--well, an unmarried, pregnant girl would never earn anything but scorn. No matter what anyone else said, she wasn't stupid. She knew what people would think. Even if she said, over and over, that she hadn't wanted any of it, that she'd begged them not to, that she'd fought as hard as she could, it wouldn't make a difference. No one would pity her. No one would look at her as anything other than a harlot. And she deserved that, right? She'd been defiled, and it had all been--

"This is your fault. You know it is. You came to me willingly, transparent as glass with those desires you thought you hid so well. Attention, validation, everything you wanted and never had, is that right? I didn't force myself into your life, you invited me. I took only what you offered."

The worst part is that she knows he's right. She can feel part of herself dying again, and shivers, tears streaming down her face as she tries to block out the feeling of his eyes, taking in every inch of her, his hands--

She deserves this, she asked for it. Maybe not with words, but she asked anyway. She's been trained for years to be someone's property--a father's, a husband's, Luxuria's, does it matter whose? Every time one of them is pleased, she feels some sense of relief--she's done something right, they won't be angry, they won't shout at her and hit her, maybe this really is what she's meant for--and then she realizes what she's thinking and is disgusted with herself all over again. And when the more gentle ones hold her, when they say that she's beautiful and treat her with what is almost kindness--she doesn't understand how people like them can seem so caring--then she is almost happy. Even after all they've done, all they keep doing, it feels good to be treated as if she is loved.

She's losing her mind. Experience has taught her that pleased men are less likely to harm her, and she's taken this to heart and tried to control the only thing she can in this awful place, and she's losing her mind because she should never, ever, ever be trying to make them happy, she should be fighting and screaming and refusing over and over and over again. She should be saying 'no' and clawing at them and pushing them away, not lying complacent beneath them and waiting for it to end. She certainly shouldn't feel any pleasure from what they do. She should hate them and hate what they're doing to her, she should tell them that even as they take her, even if it makes them angry, no matter what happens she shouldn't ever stop fighting--

But all she does is lie back and let them do what they want to her, without uttering a word of protest, trying so hard just to keep from crying. She didn't run back then, she didn't fight back then, and all chance of escape is gone now.

All she can do is lie here and take it.

Of all her stories, none are like this, and of course not. This is reality, painful, horrible, sickening reality, where things exist that could never be spoken of in her stories. Those stories would never say that there are monsters worse than dragons, that the fair maidens are no longer maidens at the end, that no one will ever want her again--that there is no handsome prince or valiant knight to come and save her--that she will bend and break and humiliate herself to keep from more pain, from dying--she doesn't want to die here, exposed and used and filthy, surrounded by people who see her as a toy and nothing more.

No.

She wants to die, but not like this.

It would have been better if she had died, then. If she had, she wouldn't be causing so much trouble for the others--she wouldn't be pregnant, wouldn't have to face the terror of giving birth to a child she doesn't even want--as if it wouldn't be painful enough in and of itself--oh, gods, the reality of it was sinking into her now. She was going to be like this for months, and it was just going to get worse and worse as time went on--the sickness, the pain, the uncontrollable emotions, she'd been told about the results of pregnancy before, in preparation for eventually having children of her own--in preparation for this--and she knew what she was in for.

"Someday--"

No! She didn't want to think about it anymore. She didn't want to think about anything, she didn't want to feel anything--she just wanted it all to stop.

The tears that wouldn't come before came at full force, then, horrible sounds welling up inside her--sounds somewhere between a sob and a scream, tearing at her throat, filling the air around her, her small frame shaking violently with each cry. Her father would have been ashamed of the entirely undignified display, and at one point she would have been ashamed as well--but she didn't have any dignity left to show. That had all been taken from her, and in its place she'd been given--

Take it back, she begged in her mind. Please, Aurora, please, I'll do anything, just take it back. I don't want this. I'm not ready, I don't want to be a mother, not like this--take it back, please don't make me do this...

What was she supposed to do?! She couldn't get away from this. She couldn't just kill the child--that would be murder, and she'd already committed far too many sins. So there was nowhere for her to run--that thing inside of her would still be there, a parasite feeding off of her and why why why why why--she didn't want to do this. She didn't want to.

But then again, people ignoring what she wanted was how this had all started, wasn't it?

Even with Luxuria, she hadn't felt this alone. It was silly, and stupid--she wasn't alone, there were people right there with her, and with the tiny life nestled inside of her, it wasn't even possible for her to be alone--but there was still no one who could save her from the nightmare she'd found herself in once again.

Rafal had said it was over.

It wasn't over, she knew that now. It wasn't over, and it never would be--this child would remind her every day of what she'd done. She'd never get free of it. She'd never get free of them.

And it was all so natural, wasn't it? So normal. She'd known for years what would happen when she was older, even if she'd pretended to herself that it wouldn't be so bad--she'd be married, she'd sleep with her husband, even if she didn't really want to, even if it was painful, even if he was someone she'd never want touching her at all--and she would have children, of course, as many as she was supposed to. And after that, she would have no further use. This was what her body was made for, what she was made for... That was it. What other use did a woman have?

It was just a baby. That was all. Lots of women had children, all the time. And since she certainly wouldn't ever get married now, there'd be no pressure on her to produce a legitimate heir for her eventual husband--so this was most likely the only child she'd ever have. It was just one baby. Just one.

It wasn't so bad, right?

So why couldn't she stop crying?

Somewhere
A village

He was afraid too.. how couldn’t he be? For most of his life, or at least, from what he could remember.. everyone hated him. All of the people that he met ended up despising him, sooner or later. They loathed him because he was a necromancer, because he was a servant of Invidia..they didn’t care about everything that he had been through. And the only ones who didn’t hate him were those whose souls were also bound to sins..or those whose souls were bound to his, like his relic. At least.. until he met her. Julie was the first person that he had ever met who had tried to find the good inside of him.. who had tried to understand how much he had suffered.. who had believed in him. And sometimes..sometimes it was just so hard to believe. She had no reasons to be so kind to him after all.. if even if she was the Archbishop of Kindness. they were enemies.. and he had… he had hurt her so much. So even if she had kissed him back, even if she was hugging him.. what if she was just pretending? What if it was just an act? It was horrible to think about such things, when they were so close together, when he was so happy..but there was a part of him, a voice in his head that always whispered, that it was all a lie..

That’s why he just anxiously waited for her to say something, to say anything, desperately fearing that she might say something to push him away.. and yet.. and yet..

She said that she liked him, and somehow, poor Celio seemed to turn even more red than he already was. He had always longed for affection, even back then, when he was just a lonely child, shunned by the others for having caused his mother’s death with birth.. so for someone to actually care for him like that.. it was weird. All these feelings.. they were just so messy and confused, and as he struggled to understand all these emotions that he was feeling, this warmness in his chest, the blue eyed girl continued to talk..that he was the only one who had ever taken her seriously.. even if had taken him a long time to do that. If someone would have told him back then, after the two of them had met for the first time in that little city, after she had challenged him to a duel so clumsily, by throwing her glove right into his face, that he would end up doing his best to understand her, to be close to her.. he would have never believed it, no chance. And then...well, Celio’s face became almost as red as his eyes. The boy was blushing so much that you could almost expect steam to start rising off his face...him being.. being.. c-cute? She.. she l-liked his s-smile? It was.. it was far too much for him to be able to understand, it was.. it was oof, so embarrassing.. and she was clearly embarrassed too..but he really wanted to hide somewhere right there and right then. He was.. he was g-great? Oof..

But before he was able to spend too much time thinking about that, the same old lady from before stopped right next to them, grinning as she looked at them.. and Celio tried to look away, to hide just how much he was blushing. The old lady seemed to be happy, but as she started to speak, Celio finally noticed that many of the villagers were leaving, and that there was no more music - the celebration was over. Celio was pretty affected by this - years and years of being constantly on the run meant that he had learned to constantly be careful about his surroundings, to constantly be paranoid, and yet.. just him being next to her had made him lower his guard like that.. so the crimson eyed boy felt a twinge of fear - before the old lady grabbed both of their wrists, forcing them to follow her. Celio was still a bit confused about all of this, his short moment of fear meaning that he wasn’t careful when the old lady had told them that she was going to give them a place to say for the night - but he also noticed all those girls from earlier, and how some of them looked angrily at Julie, while some of them seemed to be upset - with a few of them even crying, but Celio didn’t manage to connect the dots. The idea that anyone would like him or find him attractive was too confusing for him to comprehend - so the idea that he was popular was way beyond his power of understanding. Before he was even able to think about that though, Julie slipped her arm around theirs, and Celio slightly blushed again. He remained quiet this time, just enjoying the warmth of her hand against his skin that was just so cold..

Eventually, they arrived in front of a large stoned building that seemed to be an inn of some sorts - vaguely reminding him of what happened in Arys, even if this inn looked a lot better and a lot more peaceful than the tavern back in that horrible Anselmian city. The lady led them into the inn, and trying not to wake the sleeping innkeeper, the three of them moved quietly up to stairs to one of the rooms. And then, much to their shock.. the lady said that this was the only room that they had right now.. and they had to share it. Celio’s reaction was a mix of embarrassment and anxiety - sharing the room with a girl, sharing the room with her? It was too much, far too much for someone like him, and he had no idea what to do or what to say..he tried to protest, but before he could say anything, the lady mentioned that them sleeping there was going to be on the house, and Celio quickly remembered that he had absolutely no money on him.. and that he couldn’t even remember the last time he had slept in an inn. Inns normally rejected necromancers who also seemed to be servants of one of the Seven Sins at the same time, oh well..

The lady told them that she was just repaying his kindness - even if well, he still failed to understand why what he had done back then was so special..and then the old woman grinned again..saying.. saying that they shouldn’t have much f-fun, and the poor boy turned bright red once again, just how much he was blushing being even more obvious in his case than it was on Julie, due to just how pale he was. She couldn’t have.. she couldn’t have been implying that...but it really.. it really seemed that she had.. that she was.. that she was expecting that to be doing that..If his heart would have still been beating, Celio was pretty sure that it would have exploded right around now. He knew what that was of course - as much as he hated the cultists of Luxuria and as much he had tried to keep them from doing too much harm, the simple fact that they were in the same Cult of Sins meant that over the past three years, the three years that he could remember at least, he had learned quite a lot of details about such things.. and he couldn’t even count the number of female cultists of Luxuria, that for some reason that he couldn’t understand - had tried to do that with him.. it was.. it was so embarrassing that he couldn’t even think about it.. but he had never done anything like that..so why would.. why would that woman say something like that?

And Julie seemed to be worrying about the same things, as she tried to say something, her voice embarrassed and shaking, as she as clearly blushing - and she seemed to ask him that - and Celio nearly died from embarrassment right there - how could she.. how could she suspect that he would.. that he would try to do something like that. “N-no..”, he managed to say, his voice as low as a whisper, before an even stronger blushing Julie opened the door.. only to reveal that the room had a single bed.

This was one of those moments in which he really, really wanted to have learned invisibility magic. Or teleportation. Or perhaps death, yeah, death seemed to be a much better alternative than this. It was beyond embarrassing, he was blushing so hard that he couldn’t even find a word to describe it, he nearly started to tremble. She wasn’t going to sleep in the same room as him, was she? She was going to be embarrassed, she was going to be scared, probably both, and she was just going to throw him out or something. It was alright - he could understand it - he was going to leave if it ended up like that, but before, before he had to prove it to her that he wasn’t going to do anything like that. And it wasn’t sleeping that he was worried about - after all, most of the time, his sleep meant just lying down on a clean pile of leaves in a forest somewhere. The issue was sleeping in the same room with her, oof, since he could already feel that he was going to be far too embarrassed to be able to sleep…but at least.. at least no sleep meant no nightmares..

Taking a deep breath, Celio tried to calm down a little. “You should.. you should s-sleep in the b-bed.. I’ll.. I’ll be a-alright..”, he tried to say, his voice shaking. Without even waiting for her answer - the boy just lied down on the wooden floor next to the bed in a position that looked really, really uncomfortable. “G-good night..”, he tried to say, hoping that the conversation would end there..

As Julie pushed open the door to the room, she heard Celio whisper a quiet no to her rhetorical question, which, she had to admit, left her feeling a bit relieved. Atleast they were on the same page about that whole ordeal...and, well, it made her feel a little better about the whole situation. But of course, at the sight of the single bed, it seemed that they both felt embarrassed about the predicament. Awkwardly, unsure on what to do, Julie simply stood in the room for a moment, fidgeting slightly with her hands, opening her mouth to say something...but falling silent. Would it really be alright to share the same bed as him..? Wouldn't that seem...intimate? There was no better way to put it, really; even if they weren't planning on doing anything "fun" as the woman had mentioned, the thought of sleeping so close to him...still...

As she began to blush pink from the thought, Celio broke the silence, mentioning that she should sleep in the bed, that he would be alright, and she looked to him as he spoke. Not a moment later, he quickly, awkwardly, laid down on the floor; and, despite the slight comfort of the bear rug, he still seemed...uncomfortable. He gave a good night, but Julie still stood, unsatisfied with the decision. Yes, perhaps it seemed intrusive to be sleeping in the same bed as someone she didn't really intend to have such relations with, she...had to admit she couldn't bear to let him sleep on the floor like that. Not to mention, she...didn't really mind the idea of sharing a bed with him. It was most definitely clear he had no intentions of hurting her, so there could be no harm in it, right..? Not to mention, she would probably feel safer with him there...and she couldn't deny that the idea of sleeping in his arms was...tempting. But of course, there was no possible way she could just tell him that...she didn't want to make him uncomfortable, after all.

So, albeit her train of thought had made her blush, she frowned. "Nope, I won't let you sleep on the floor!" She answered sternly. "You'll be too cold, and you might get sore...the floor is pretty hard to sleep on, after all. It would be rude to make you sleep on the floor like that..." She spoke, trailing off slightly, before she nudged him slightly with her foot. "So...get up and get in the bed! I won't bite." She answered, trying to crack a joke to lighten the mood a little. When she had gotten him to move, she gave a smile of satisfaction...but what would come next would be, honestly, quite a bit embarrassing. In a moment, she removed the boots from her feet, and then...well, she began unbuttoning her skirt. Perhaps a very suggestive act, and realizing it as she did, she blushed furiously. "I-it's not what you think!! I-it's just...I-I can't bear to sleep in this thing, it's too tight on my belly!" She blurted, justifying her actions before she fumbled with the garment again, albeit much more hesitantly.

She could only really hope he wasn't looking much; though it's not as though she could stop him if he was. When she had removed her skirt, she quickly pulled her white shirt down from where it had stayed tucked, the hem falling an almost-appropriate length to cover her, just low enough to barely be considered decent...but she tugged at the edge, as if to try and preserve her decency in front of the boy that would spend the next night sleeping right next to her. "D-don't stare..!" She answered quickly, not bothering to check if he was in the first place before she quickly jumped into the bed and scrambled under the covers, hiding her bright red face with the sheet as she did. "A-and d-don't get any ideas...t-this is just what I sleep in..!" She tried to justify again, but her voice was muffled by the sheet she tried to hide in. By the gods, what had she gotten herself into..?

Eric de Villegagnon

Many years ago, Castle of Bellegard

The statues of knights surrounded the large training room, lit by many torches fueled by magical fire displayed in a circle that showed the arena outlay. Inside the circle, a board was displayed, and a teenage Eric stared at the drawings of human anatomy that it contained. His father, circling around the board, lectured him in how the human body worked: veins, arteries, blood vessels, bones, articulations, points of tension...

"- Are you paying attention, Eric?

- Sure, father. But why... is that important? I mean, the information, the names and...?

- Under rude terms, a soldier that only knows how to defend and attack is... a surgeon that to remove an arrow from a leg, cuts the whole leg off with a saw. He lacks precision, notion of cause and consequence, and any kind of finesse in his métier. A doctor needs to know the illness entirely before administrating any type of medicine, and as your great-grandfather used to say, the line between a doctor and a soldier is a thin one. Both need coordination, focus, notion of space and resources and most importantly, aware of the mission they are given.

- And how that relates to studying the human body?

- As I said while you were staring at your blade, son, you will only reach your full potential once you are completely aware of what a fight is. A duel, in the fancy courts of the King, is a thing. A battle... is another. Death is a reality you learn to accept, but loss... never. You may not overcome your opponent, but your ally may. Which is why you need to understand that, if you are debilitated, your duty is to provoke the specific type of damage that will make the life of your ally easier. Major blood vessels are good for that: a quick cut or a small piercing wound will make the blood constantly flow off the body. Blood loss causes lack of orientation, loss of strength... in the wrists, the grasp on the blade gets looser. Inside the thighs, the base for defense gets sloppier, as the legs get weaker. Blunt impacts cause disorientation, so don't be afraid to use headbutts and hits with the pommel of your sword. Elbows as well, if you fancy. Now, get your blade. Let's put the theory to practice."

Both nobles cleared the arena, and started a friendly spar, with the oldest one teaching maneuvers that, in his hands, seemed absurdly natural. Deflecting and opening the opponent's guard for an attack, distraction hits, dodges, quick steps to the side... everything crafted around a philosophy of battle that seemed unique for that bloodline. Flowing between the bloody search for an execution and the patience of a painter creating a masterpiece, a younger Eric absorbed every detail of the lessons he received from his father...

Now

The wound at the left upper arm was definitely bothering the old knight. Even if his dominant hand was the right one, he needed the left arm to perform stronger moves. He knew that his experience could make the odds even under normal circumstances, but in the Night... it was a lost fight. However, all he needed to do now was to use the last window of opportunity he had to make the fight for Alexis easier.

"I killed many Inquisitors but you... You are definitely more annoying than all of them together, praying at the same time. Which is why I won't stop you, but the Princess will... And the next time we meet - because I know you will return - you won't have the Night to help you. Now... let me show you what a little human can do.

You, the noble who is commanding the armies! Make sure the Princess recovers from the blow, move your troops as you wish but make sure she recovers!"

Detaching his cape from the shoulder pads, he made a knot around the wound caused by the twin who seemed to enjoy the fight under the Bloody Moons. One last run, one last display of uncommon swordsmanship was all he needed to give Alexis the time she needed to recover, while he hoped that the noble who joined the battle would be competent enough to defend her.

Readying his sword, he looked at her relaxed posture, of someone who had victory as granted... and analyzed every inch of her armor, every wound, and readied himself for the sudden attack. A flurry of light hits clashing against her blade created some distance between her and the Princess, allowing her to have some fun... before his skill was displayed. Forcing her sword to keep close to her body, he gave her a slight push that opened her legs for a diagonal cut in the major blood vessel of the inner thigh, small but exactly what he needed. And what could seem the most idiotic decision to take when fighting someone with her skill: quickly closing distance between them, he pushed the sword through her left armpit, piercing her shoulder before pulling it quickly and kicking her in the chest, falling away from her and nearly passing out from exhaustion. As he was laying on the ground, he placed his sword on his sheath, using the last bit of mana he had to lock his trusted weapon inside the sheath until he woke up.

"Soldiers! Protect... your... Princess!"
Nothing to see here, move along.

The Mountain Crusher, Yakr Rugma
The border between the Kingdom of Duivene and the Fallen Achisia

The fire roared towards Yakr, giving him only a few seconds to decide if he was to continue charging forward, or to avoid the flames. If it was regular fire, then he would have without thinking continued his charge forward. But this fire was black, and that was just wrong in Yakr's eyes. So, he made his choice, and with a single step, he turned slightly to his left and continued his charge in a curved line. Due to him running in a curve, he was able to get around the black fire, while still being able to approach the dragon with great speed.

Upon reaching the dragon, he lowered his head and tackled the dragon. With his incredible strength, despite the dragon being larger than him, Yakr was able to knock the dragon off balance. With the dragon off balance, Yakr continued forward, knocking the beast to the ground. With the three headed dragon on the ground, Yakr was able to get on top of it, and started punching it repeatedly in the chest.

Border between Duivene and Achisia

Peter was still holding Alexis up with his shoulder when he heard the older knight's orders to keep the princess alive at all costs, and immediately Peter looked for a healer.

"Anyone who can perform healing spells get to me now!" he barked, and soon enough 4 Scripture knights stood in front of him ready to use their last bit of mana to heal the princess of her grievous wounds. "The four of you try and heal her, we'll give you as much time as we can!" Peter laid Alexis down gently with the four knights surrounding her casting their healing magic with whatever mana they had left. Peter took up the princess' banner once more and waved it in the air for all to see.

"Rally! Rally!" he yelled and soon enough whatever forces they had left grouped up around the small hill where Peter was standing and Alexis was being healed upon. "Form ranks men, spears and shields in front swordsmen behind! Archers, knock your arrows!" Peter looked out upon the undead hordes and genuinely believed that this is where they would die, fighting the enemies of Duivene. Peter looked down to the ground, staring at his unsheathed sword glistening with the reflection of the blood red moon and came to peace with himself. Returning to the moment, Peter yelled at the top of his lungs "Archers, draw..." he awaited for the undead to close in until they were only a few hundred feet away "...LOOSE!" and with that hundreds of arrows pierced the air and rained down upon the undead, cutting down hundreds and incapacitating many more. As the ranks of the undead and the living met, the archers now fired at will, and the heat of the battle again began.

Peter descended into the ranks of fighting, looking for any undead that attempted to break through towards the princess. With shield in hand, he weathered blows from 3 undead that came too close the the princess. Peter parried one of the undead's attacks with his sword and with one move disarmed it and decapitated it. The other two closed in on him again however, and sent him flying onto the ground. One of the undead's swords glanced across his right pauldron while he was blocking the attack of the other undead. Quickly, Peter kicked on of the undead soldiers onto the ground with him and impaled it there with his sword. He rose again, and again blocked the swing of the last undead's sickle. Peter pushed the undead backwards and took up his sword from the ground, and slashed it across the chest of the undead and severed the upper half of its torso.

Now out of breath, Peter looked around for any more undead before retreating back up to the princess' location, taking up the princess' banner and planting it into the ground next to her. It was then he noticed the giant karaki fighting the dragon, and ordered for spears to move in an take advantage of the dragon's now precarious position....

Somewhere
A village
An inn
A room

Celio just tried to close his eyes and to go to sleep. A part of him really, desperately wanted to be anywhere else but there, to find a way to leave the room, to get away from her.., but truly, he was just afraid that faced with such an embarrassing situation, she was just going to throw him out of the room or something. He had no idea what to do in such a situation, and even if he had absolutely no intention to do anything weird, he didn't want her to feel bad because of him. It really seemed as if his presence here was really, really inconvenient for her... but still, truth be told.. he really didn't mind the idea of sleeping so close to her that much. He had no bad intentions, it was just that.. he had been meaning to ask her to hug him again for quite some time now..back during the morning, it was her hug that had snapped him out of it. When he was lost, surrounded by a storm of dark thoughts, hating himself and feeling filthy, it was her who had saved him. Maybe he was imagining it, or maybe it really was because of his dead heart, but he was always cold..and it was her warmth that for those precious, fleeting moments, had pushed the coldness of his cursed body away. And during the evening, the way in which she had hugged him like that had strengthened his resolve, it had made him sure that he had made the right choice.. that he had really found a reason to live...a reason not to hate himself for.

But oh well, he couldn't just ask her that.. and hopefully, him sleeping on the floor was going to be alright.. and it wasn't going to make her feel too uncomfortable. So the black haired boy simply closed his eyes, trying to pretend that he was asleep while desperately trying not to sleep at the same time.. when she said that she wasn't going to let him sleep on the floor. Was she going to just kick him out of the room? It might have been for the best, but much to his suprise, she said that it would be difficult for him to sleep there - so as she nudged him with her foot, she told him to get in the bed, trying to make him feel better with a joke at the same time. He tried to close his eyes again, to pretend that he was already asleep, but it was too awkward.. so he slowly started to get up. She smiled, clearly satisfied that she had managed to convince him..and then she removed her boots, and then.. she began unbuttoning her skirt, before poor Celio was even able to react. Confused and blushing just as furiously as her, the boy covered his eyes with hands, clearly expecting something else...to which the girl simply said that it wasn't anything like that, that she just couldn't sleep with that on. Taking his hands away, he tried not to look at her, but he couldn't but steal a glance, just as she was pulling her white shirt down, so that her attire would appear at least a little bit decent.. but she seemed to notice that he was looking her, telling him not to stare as she quickly hid underneath the bed's covers, her voice muffled as she seemed to explain her actions once again.

It would be difficult to explain just how confused poor Celio was, or just how much he wanted to just disappear.. but it was a bit too late for that. He hesitated for a few good moments, until it became far too awkward to just stay there doing nothing, as he also realized that he couldn't just sleep dressed like that. Reluctantly, he removed his own boots from his feet, and then he took off his coat - the piece of clothing falling to the floor with a bump and the sound of heavy, metallic objects hitting each other. A clearly embarassed Celio quickly picked it up, and placed it it on a nearby chair. His short sleeved shirt made the web of scars on his arms extremely visible, not that they were no longer hidden, and there was nothing that he could do about the metallic cuffs - they were still there, on his wrists, as they had always been. At least the bruising wasn't that bad right now.. Taking a deep breath, and trying to calm himself down, the crimson eyed boy climbed into the bed on the other side, also getting under the covers but turning around, to sleep with his back at and as far away from her as he could. "Good night..", he whispered, closing his eyes and wishing that this night would pass as quickly as possible...

But it didn't end like that. No matter of what he or others were going to believe, he was still an abomination, someone who deserved to suffer for his crimes. And the nightmares were there every night.. A black throne room, blood flowing on the ground, people laughing, suffering and despair, the slash of a sword and a moment of excruciating pain.. and then darkness. Hooded figures wearing black robes moving slowly through a camp, with knights and soldiers sleeping, the air filled with green dust. A red eyed boy, moving from tent to tent, his scythe stained with crimson, the blade cutting through flesh as if it was nothing, bringing death and darkness with it. Figures wearing black robes running through a forest in the middle of a great battle, metal meeting metal, the smell of burning flesh. A hail of burning arrows, and a white haired boy being the only to react in time with a shield of black mist in front of him, with the others pierced, their burning bodies falling on the ground next to him. Death, envy, hate, fear.

Still sleeping, Celio suddenly started to shiver, tears rolling down his cheeks even his eyes were still closed, desperately grasping the metallic collar around his neck as if he wanted to take it off..
