I disagree. I find it easily the most boring episode of Ten's entire run. And yes, that includes "Love And Monsters" and "Fear Her".

Aha yes. The episode widely considered to be the best of Ten's run. The episode that was widely praised as incredibly innovative, incredibly intelligent, and incredibly well acted. An interesting study into the flaws of Ten's character and exactly why he needs a companion. Perhaps the turning point in Ten's arc, turning his glorious rise into a downward spiral.

And you're comparing it to "awful child actor makes funny voices" and "man unironically implies he has sex with a slap of concrete"

Bestest Whittaker episode: tear-jerking scenes and laughs.

Are you also experiencing comprehension deficiency?

People use guns and Doctor don't whinge.

They are setting up for the big scene where Ryan says I love you grandpa. Hug, hug, tear-jerking music etc. And every episode where Ryan won't do it, I hate him more.

My favourite episode of the season is still the opening episode. Then the second one right behind it.

I thought midnight was decent it was simple yet it would be scary to a young child kind of in the same way the weeping angels scared so many, you never saw what it was like (from 10th days) only the statue but that was simple and it worked.

The topic came up in a discord server I’m in, so I figured I might as well share here.
I did a comparison of the IMDB scores for each episode so far against the same scores with the extreme ratings (10 and 1) removed.
The results are pretty interesting so far

It’ll be interesting to see how this pans outs over time, if I can muster the effort to keep it up.

Except you actually saw the Weeping Angels. 'Midnight' is just a noise and a small set for 45 minutes.

I'm starting to dislike this new doctor. She lacks any kind of gravitas and so far just flounces around like an excitable child, while the previous incarnation were never 100% serious, there needs to be some of it, else I just can't get invested.

I think the Rosa Parks episode is my favourite so far. I suppose the race episode was pretty good too.

The circumstances for watching this one weren't ideal... had to take a break part way through for a phone call... but it just wasn't doing it for me. The alien was a great concept... definitely, as my mother pointed out, Gremlinly... but the companions are, frankly, what's holding my interest this time. And there are so many of them. And all these other characters that we're meant to care about as well. It's very unwieldy.

Now that I think about it, Broadchurch had a quite a lot of characters. There were the two main cops, the preacher, Lattimer parents and the journalist all spring to mind as being particularly important. The thing with Broadchurch, though, is that when you think about it... better versions of the same idea tend to have fewer characters, and this is a style of programming where you can more easily handle a large cast.

As for the Doctor... I agree, definitely very inconsistent on this soldiers/guns stuff. I mean, the two don't have to be inconsistent but that it comes across this way is a sign of bad writing. Now, I'm of a school of thought that's somewhat sceptical of Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi so it's probably not surprising that I'm beginning to lean this way here but again we've got to come back to this "too many characters" problem. We're not really getting a chance to know anyone... except these random side characters.
That it Could be What it Is, Is What it Is

Did you see Matt Smith? All he did was flounce until the season finale, when the Pandorica closed. Every Doctor has their own personality, and it became clear this episode that this Doctor might not think as much about the consequences of her actions. That was apparent both when they
ran a sonic mine
and when she
wanted to turn the medical ship around
. Indeed, she flounces, but she hides a layer with more gravity. I mean, when she participated in the
wake for the general
, she did show some solemness.

Regarding the Doctor and guns: I think that inconcistency is also part of her character. She basically fawns over the general as an abstract hero, but still abhors the use of guns. That inconcistency will come back to haunt her, but as a character flaw. She is clearly very concerned with glory and outward appearance.

Edit: next time I will improve the layout.

Well that was rather dull and woodenly performed. (The discrepancy between past and present Umbreen's accent was quite funny as well) The monster design and concept was really nice, but the realisation didn't really do it justice, and the episode's actual plot was more hindered than helped by their presence. Graham's is still the best character and gets all the best lines, The Doctor's kind of derpy and rubbish, Ryan's rubbish without Graham, and Yas barely exists. The last twenty minutes was well done and affecting, but felt a little undeserved based on the previous half hour.
