The Redford Academy for Young Ladies (OOC)

Postby Kuronami » Wed Oct 24, 2018 6:45 pm

Come One; Come All because it's yet ANOTHER student exchange! This one has a unique caveat because this is just for the girls! Because why not! So come on and join a rural quaint boarding school. IC Thread

About the School
The Redford Academy is nestled in the rolling hills around the rural village of Foxtrot, in the shadow of the Pegasus Mountains that divide the domains of Elystadt and Clarines. The school was established in 1799 by Lord John Francis Redford, who wanted his three daughters, Francis, May and Beth to be able to be educated in a public manner but also in an environment free of distractions. While the school was initially founded upon the idea that nobles would send their children the eldest daughter, Lady Francis Weigh changed that upon her inheriting the school from her father and made the school open to the nearby village of Foxtrot. Other boarding schools for noble children soon cropped up in other parts of the country, the school still remained popular for many rich and poor alike. As the times have changed and decades rolled on the school saw changes too, getting electricity in 1922, increasing sport and academic subjects, desegregation of subjects for wealthy and working students and more, but one thing remains constant it's the quaint country school for young women to learn. It's not flashy, it's not in the heart of a big city, but it's sure to be ideal for those wanting a quite but cozy place. If you or a child is between the ages 15-19 and would like to attend for the coming semester please continue to inquire in our brochure.

About the Town

The town of Foxtrot is a small community of about 1200 residents. The town has many shops, a cinema and will be accessible for students on weekends and holidays. While the school is a boarding school, a few local residents still attend.

Code of Conduct: Students

-Students will be required to wear the school uniform which will be provided. No modifications may be made this uniform. If uniform is lost or damaged the student will be financially responsible to the maintenance and/or replacement.

-School hours are from 9AM-3:30PM with a 60 minute lunch. Optional After-School activities can be joined or formed with permission.

-A student who's GPA has fallen below 2.5 will be placed on Academic Probation. Extracurricular activities will be suspended until improvements can be made. If improvement is not seen further disciplinary action including expulsion may be enacted.

-Students are to respect each other and each other's personal property. Theft and/or vandalism will be met with disciplinary action.

-Students are expected to maintain their dorms. School housekeeping staff takes care of weekly laundry services for bedding, uniforms and others.

How exactly does the aforementioned add up? How do you (the OP) work out who to deport to Probation? How will time work on an IC-versus-OOC scale? And are there any laws in Kuronami (or, if the RP is not being set there, wherever it is being set) beyond the Code of Conduct that we need to be made aware of?

Most of this is window dressing I obviously can't force anyone to RP a poor student unless they want to. Time just works as it works in any RP it's based on where people are and what they are doing. There probably won't be a strong focus on classes other than set pieces I write. Further, naturally there are laws in my nation, it's pretty much your usual laws of many western developed nations.

Everything looks great! Welcome back Mervay! I actually need to get rid of the subject desired in the app though. I did think about having a teacher app and must have crossed some things in editing. I'm going to keep it simple and just keep it on the students and take care of staff myself.

Good morning,
Yay, a student exchange, this time to Kuronami! I'll be onboard!
Short question, though: Mona owns a Grey Wolf by the name of Bhuf - would she be allowed to bring him along? Of course, he'll stay out of class and will behave, but... well, he's her snuggly oversized puppy. If he isn't allowed, she'll come anyways, finding another solution for him.

Name:
Age:
    16 Springs.
Nationality:
    Selkie.
Current/Previous School:
    Ais High School of Silverport.
Health Issues:
    None.
Background:
"I was born in 2002 in Silverport to Colonel Ilia Alhajin of the Tribe of Galway and to his wife Gwen, making me a quarter-Kyrenaian (my Dad is Half-Kyrenaian). My Mam died pretty early in an accident, my Dad, due to his commitment to the SDF-Army, sent me to a Boarding School, the Ais Boarding School Complex of Silverport, where I currently attend High School. I attend under my Mam's Name.
I earned their uniform (the image above shows me pictured with the winter-uniform) by academic achievement: My greatest hobby, besides playing with Bhuf, is to collect commemorative coins and due to this hobby, I was able to sort and catalogue the entire coin collection of the Silverport Shipping Museum anew, which brought a few surprising revelations as well.
In 2012, my Dad gifted to me a Grey Wolf Puppy I named Bhuf, who is my constant companion ever since.
In 2017, I joined the Cult of Ladra as a Servant."
Why You Wish to Attend:
"To broaden my horizons. Silverport is one of the largest ports and industrial centres of the Free Lands, that is true, but it still only is a single city and I hope that attending school abroad for a year will give me a view of the wider world and what it has to offer. Plus, I heard much about the Empire and wanted to see it for myself..."
Favorite Subject:

Wonderful that he can come along! Mona will certainly love it there (especially with other animals around)! Are there wild areas around the school, like a forest or something?

When I was five, we resided in the northeast region of Oirthir-a-Tuath Region. Growing up there, I never was really interested in math. As long as I understood it, I see no reason to expand on it further, and continue on with having fun with my friends. However, my dad got a new job down south at Rosencolm. He was to be working as a statistician at Sillars-Gillanders, one of the country's most famous companies that focuses on medicine and electronics. After my mother calmed me down from crying my eyes out for the fact that I was going to miss my friends, she wanted me to talk to him. Moments later, my dad explained to me more about his job, and interesting enough, I wanted to know more. Ever since then, I understood why math is important through his explanation, and I wanted to become what he was, thanks to me looking at what he was doing. During my later years in elementary school, I plowed through algebra, geometry, trigonometry, much thanks to my parents helping out at times, and later on in St. Peadrus, I became adept in Calculus. In spite of the hardships encountered, I still wish to follow my dream, and I will do whatever it takes to accomplish it.

Why You Wish to Attend:
As a person that might potentially be in a company, government organization or such, I want to attend this school, because I want to able to get accustomed to living under another culture whenever there is business afoot that requires my attention. Not only that, but also as a person coming from two cultural backgrounds, I grew fond of learning about cultures of the world. This leads me to say that I am interested in knowing more about the nation this school is from.

Age: 15
Nationality: Kuronamian
Current/Previous School: Fronkonsteen Grammar School
Health Issues: Corrective lenses required
Background: I was born in Fronkonsteen, which is a very small mountain town on the opposite side (The Eylstdat side) of the Pegasus Mountains to my loving parents Fredrika and Henry Harvenheit as well as the youngest of three elder brothers, Jacob, Hans and Alec. I've always looked forward to the day she'd I'd to attend The Redford Academy and become a refined young lady worthy of my family's name. My father, Henry is the local mayor while my mother Fredrika, of whom I get my middle name from, runs a local tailoring shop. I'm not entirely sure of what her future will be I hope the school will really show her what path in life is the best for me, whether that's to reach high like my parents, live simply like my brother Jacob who now is married and has a small farm, or something else in between, like Hans who works as a school teacher in our town or Alec who is finishing out high school.
Why You Wish to Attend: "I wish to come to Redford as it's the school my mother, grandmother and great-grandmother all attended at my age. The school has been a long tradition for the girls of my family and the day I was born my mother cried so hard knowing she'd get to see a daughter of her own off to the lovely school. I'm very excited new students from around the world are being invited to attend and I'm excited I get to understand people who are from further away than our mountain villages that dot these mountains.

Not only that, but also as a person coming from two cultural backgrounds, I grew fond of leaning about cultures of the world. This leads me to say that I am interested in knowing more about the nation this school is from.

RP Sample: (your essay above can also double as your RP Sample if you lack anything concrete but ideally I'd like to see something) One

Everything looks good, welcome aboard. But again the preferred subject thing is dropped it's a leftover from an earlier draft I was working on. Everyone will essentially have the same courses more or less. but classes will be breezed through most of the time. Welcome!

Yes, forests and pasture lands.

Wonderful! Bhuf will feel right at home!
And yes, his name means basically 'woof'. Mona was ten, when she got him, so give her a break! ; )

As for the 'preferred subject', why not include a favourite subject?
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

Oii,
This sounds fun! With exchange programs obviously being a very common point for our characters meeting, I, of course, will be onboard, too! :)
Although my character will not be the extroverted and communicative kind most of you guys are used to meet when interacting with mine, I'm sure it will be fun.

Name:
Britta Morgenthau

Age:
17 years.

Nationality:
Lillorainian.

Current/Previous School:
Vartrup Boarding School.

Health Issues:
None.

Background:
"I was born on February 4, 2001, in Ladenburg in the State of the Rathland, as the youngest daughter of Ralph and Maria Morgenthau, both two of the co-owners of the company of Lengerich Electronics Limited - therefore, from an upper middle-class household. I had a pretty much bog-standard urban childhood, though, despite not seeing my parents, who used to be very busy, very often and rather getting raised by my older siblings and other closer relatives. Despite that complicated family situation, my talent for languages got discovered quite early, so I was sent to a renowned private boarding school in Vartrup, Rigesöer, almost hundred kilometers from home, in 2013, with some international fellow students I could test and improve my language skills with - I never had issues with homesickness from the get-go, neither at the boarding school itself, nor at any of the class trips. Aside from my aforementioned linguistic talent, I was also quite good at sports; preferrably endurance run, volleyball, horse riding, and - inherent to most Lillorainians -, target shooting. Despite a few unfortunate incidents within my family and some more with some of my friends, I continuously performed well in school, being in 11th grade now."

Why You Wish to Attend:
"As the most common answer may probably be, I seek to see the world. In fact, coming from a middle-sized-at-best archipelago, I already know a lot of places - within that archipelago. I think that school time is the best time to go abroad, not to mention that I'm quite used to being a traveller, therefore I am less stuck in some idyllic world of home. Aside from that, I am much interested in seeing the Empire of Kuronami from inside."

Favorite Subjects:
English, other languages if provided, PE, History.

RP Sample: We have already met a few times, the Shella Harvest Festival being the most current example.

Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Until there's a new, proper factfile, everything you might need to know can be found here. Thank you. #RetconOfDoom (Very late update, 2020/08/30 - it's still going on ...)

Oh, yes, that little change. Now, naturally, she will favor English, and whatever languages may be offered apart from it, and PE, but she's also much into History.

Le Edit: Edited. ^^
