Council Of Defence calls meeting regarding the Vostravian War
Director of the SSAG, Viktoria Elssler, called a meeting of the Council of Defence to discuss the Vostravian War. The Council of Defence, the body responsible with commanding the Besgarian Armed Forces, is made up of the Rikesprasident, Directors of the Army, Navy and Airforce and SSAG and Minister of Defence. Any member can call a meeting at anytime; usually reserved for emergencies.

Elssler has stated that she called the meeting to discuss the Vostravian War and the impact it will have on European stability. The Ministry of Defence donated older Besgarian tanks to the Odabeaner army days after the war began. This happened before the Council of Defence meeting and this decision has come under fire as needlessly fueling conflict and intervening where Besgaria doesn't need to.

Professor Dean Ainsley, former professor at Manchester University who now lives in the Heinz Islands, has predicted a repeat of the Channel Crisis with Sietskan naval involvement in defence of Vostravia. Ainsley has stated that 'Sietsk won't be as forgiving as the last time.'

Minister of Defence, Wulf Waldmuller, has made no statement about the outcome of the Council of Defence meeting and neither has the Rikesprasident or anyone on the Council of Defence. The only known movement of Besgarin military assets was increased patrols in the North Sea.

Where does this war leave Europe? Will it stay a minor regional war, or spiral out of control into a continent or even worldwide war? Only time will tell.

Hanoi Massacre Cripples Japanese Commitment to War Effort

      Image
IPR Forces moving in to exterminate remaining Japanese troops.

The past few months have been hell for the Japanese and Songjiang forces deployed in Hanoi. Constant artillery barrages, daily prodding attacks, and gigantic offensives had whittled away the garrison to a fraction of its former fighting strength. With the withdrawal of Songjiang forces, the IPR army (with alleged Chinese support) pressed the offensive and managed to cut off the defenders completely. An estimated 22,000 Japanese soldiers were trapped between 96,000 IPR troops. The defenders weren't offered a chance to surrender and were instead systematically hunted down by both attacking troops and local nationalist militias. The Japanese troops put up the best fight they could, but with severely low munitions and food, their fate was sealed. According to most sources, the entire Japanese force was wiped out, with only higher ranking soldiers and specialized support staff being spared execution.

Chairman Thuy Ngoc Weinburg of the Indochinese People's Republic berated the Japanese government on a public televised broadcast for their "absolute failure" at slowing down the worker state. Japanese war support following news of the event dropped significantly. From 76% to 31%. Our reporters in Kyoto claim that an absolute halt to all current military involvements overseas is plausible.

      1st Garde du Roi Brigade.

After months of intensive training with former Légion de la Diversité Commanders, the first Garde du Roi brigade was put into service on the New Burgundian frontline. Within weeks they (with support of the 33rd Homeguard Division) managed to hold back tens of thousands of Burgundian troops attempting to cross the Luemba River. Using a mixture of superb marksmanship, ambushes, and psychological warfare, the members of the Garde du Roi struck fear into the hearts of their enemies who in contrast only had a few weeks training and limited knowledge of counter guerilla operations.

Another three such brigades have been commissioned after demand for a more professional "Royal Aryan Army" skyrocketed following news of their success. With the arrival of significant european arms, commanders in New Memel have also discussed the creation of a Leopard tank battalion along with other ambitious units.

Empress plans to visit Judea along with Taoist and Buddhist Leaders

      Image
      Master Jing Po

Early on the morning of the 10th of July Master Jing Po leader of the Taoist sects in Songjiang and overall leader of the religion across the world came to visit the Empress he had brought with him the Dali-lama from Tibet leader of the Buddhist religion. They had concerned about the apparent terrorism of Jewish faithful in The Greater Arabian State. Both of these men had known many Rabbi in there travels and had always found the Jewish people to be reasonable and intelligent people not given to rash actions such as picking a fight with a nation capable of annihilating them in a few days.

They Asked that the Empress travel with them to Judea and then to The greater Arabian State to find out what is the source of this violence and chaos. The Empress has made contact with Judea and has sent messages to the Arabian State and awaits the two nations answers.

In the meantime the Manchu Guard prepare for the possibility of protecting the empress in a nation on the verge of war during her visit with the added issue of protecting the leaders of two faiths at the same time.

The Dali-lama also took the time to talk with the empress about the war in Africa stating that while he cannot support the violence of Songjiangs actions the nations actions seem to be morally sound.

Religion in Songjiang has been harmonious in the hundred years since Taoism and Buddhism became the dominant religion. Before that violence often erupted over differences in faith.

It is still not known if the stories of Taoist Master Wongs victory over Songjiangs ancient Muslim Imams and Jewish Rabbi in which he debated them for 1,000 days until they came to understand Tao and begged him to take them as students but modern Songjiang has almost no Muslims and no Jewish faithful. Historical records and ruins of Mosque and Synagogue all over the nation seem to imply that these two religion were once dominant powers across Songjiang along with Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism.

Foglia announces major increase in military spending

After the Prime Minister's response to Zaporozhie president's warmongering declarations, Piazza seems to have realized that the possibility of the country being involved in a conflict is clearly increasingly. This morning, with a special law, the Government has introduced a call for the recruitment of 80,000 units in permanent plant and 50,000 reservists in the short term (2-3 years) to be divided into the various sectors of the Republican Army. This contribution of troops will be encouraged by the various services already offered to members of the armed forces: health insurance, social security and the possibility of obtaining various permits and licenses at a discounted price compared to the rest of the civilian population.

Along with this increase in troops, we note the purchase of 140 F-16 Fighting Falcon from Besgaria in three tranches of 300M dollars (for a total of 900M for the entire fleet); these will replace the dated F-104 Starfighter to fly alongside the F-15s.

Even the Merchant Navy of the Republic will not be exempt from improvements: the Defense Advisor has announced the preparation of a multi-annual plan for the improvement of our fleet; the construction of these ships will be done "largely using labor from the territory and local companies", said the Councilor.
All this will clearly come at a cost: the military budget is expected to increase to 3.8%, almost double that available at the moment. Although this is still in line with the major nations of the Eurasian bloc, the search for funds has been announced with an increase in economic effort by those who will benefit from safer economic routes: the so-called "Mercantile Class"; another hypothesis is an amnesty of unauthorized buildings on the territory and assets considered "evaded" with eased rates.

All this seems in line with the creation of new bases in North Africa, including one very close to the border with the Free Arab State.

Augustin Bogdanic addresses Neuburg from exile
The ex-Chancellor made his first public appearance since fleeing Neuburg over a year ago

Frihetsstad, Besgaria - Augustin Bogdanic, the former Chancellor of Neuburg until 1981, addressed the people of Neuburg for the first time from his exile in Frihetsstad, Besgaria. In his television and radio address, Bogdanic called for the people to resist the legitimate government of the Kingdom of Neuburg and fight for "democracy" and "liberty."
Image
Bogdanic in Frihetsstad

The former Chancellor, who claims to be "Head of the Government-in-Exile of the Kingdom of Neuburg," was indicted for his involvement in the conspiracy to assassinate Regent Josef Gulyas last year. Bogdanic denies the allegations, but nonetheless acts as a fugitive abroad, stirring resentment and rebellion.

"The constitutional tradition of autonomy, liberty, and democracy are being eroded to promote the cult of personality of a military dictator," Bogdanic said during his address, which was listened to by less than 5,000 Neuburgers. "I make an appeal to all free peoples and nations of the world to assist Neuburgers in their fight against the tyrannical regime in power."

Bogdanic, who was born half-German half-Bosnian, was raised in the Muslim faith and participated in several terrorist group-connected activities in his political youth. He was arrested in 1950 for connections to the Pressburg bombings, but was later released without any charges. He became the leader of the financially-ruinous and scandal-ridden Liberal Party after it's defeat in the 1961 elections and became Chancellor after it won a majority in 1969.

The government of Neuburg made no response to Bogdanic's speech itself, instead calling on the Besgarian government to extradite Bogdanic to Neuburg.

"The government of Besgaria has granted asylum to a man who conspired to assassinate our head of state," foreign minister Theo Adler stated. "They either rectify this or we cut off all ties."

Burgundian High Command has taken a severe blow, with over 60 high ranking officials now in Memelian custody.

Reports indicate that Burgundian forces are largely scattered now. It seems likely that the "Aryan" nation will be forced to negotiate soon.

Special: Privacy Concern Drawing Teens to Orwell's 1984

George Orwell was the pen name of Panjali/British author Eric Arthur Blair, who wrote multiple books, essays, and articles in his lifetime. His most famous work was his Magnum Opus, 1984 which is remarked as a hallmark of dystopian literature. In it, Orwell paints a bleak society of surveillance and absolute government domination, wherein whatever the party says goes and those who even think differently are tortured, if not killed. This is a story that resonates with many modern Noorizadeans, especially after the reveal of the mayor of Herat's Rostam program, an operation which in his own words: "Attempts to stamp out threats to Noorizadeh through state-of-the-art surveillance and data management techniques." The project's biggest sponsor, independent contractor Babak Snowden is in custody on 5 charges of fraud, 2 of espionage, and 7 of corruption pending trial. This has disillusioned many young Noorizadeans, who see this as the rampant arrests continuing under a different name. Returning to 1984, Orwell's classic novel has appealed to this group, who see it as a tragic warning of what will happen if Noorizadeh continues on this path. In other news, Ali-Reza Arfa, former Mayor of Herat, a victim of the Rostam program, and author of this article is running for mayor of Herat again on a privacy platform. Note to Davud: Edit this part out. The Mashhadi Times will keep following the situation, and details will be provided on page 3A.

Government announces 1983 parliamentary elections continuing as planned
The Congress of Deputies, which has been dissolved for a year, will be reformed in 1983 in the new capital city of Vienna

Image
Parlamentsgebäude in Vienna
Vienna - The 1983 general elections are continuing as scheduled, according to Regent Josef Gulyás in his weekly national address. The elections, scheduled to take place 4 years after the 1979 general elections, will be held on an unknown date next year. The elections will coincide with the moving of the capital city from Budapest to Vienna, as per the constitutional provision that requires a capital city change every 50 years.

The 1983 election will take place 100 years after the ratification of the Constitution of Neuburg, and the Congress of Deputies formed by the election will be the first to occupy the Parlamentsgebäude in the new capital city of Vienna.

The announcement took the nation by surprise, with many observers not expecting any elections due to the Congress's connection to the plot to assassinate Gulyás. After the arrest of many Liberal and Democratic deputies, the two parties are left in shambles, and it is predicted that the Conservative and Nationalist parties will seize a large majority of the seats.

Opponents of Gulyás accuse him of continuing the election in order to stack the parliament in his favor, further solidifying his already-absolute rule. However, the Regent stated that he has no intention to rig or stack the election in his favor in any way, seeking to "establish an effective legislature to address the day-to-day issues of the nation."

Additionally unknown is whether or not the Regent will select a Chancellor after the election, has he currently occupies that office. The two likely candidates for the role are Wilhelm-Alexander zu Elbestrand (Conservative) and Oscar Klotz (Nationalist), both of which have been vocal supporters of the regent.

MASSIVE TERROR ATTACK ACROSS SONGJIANG EMPRESS & MOST OF ROYAL FAMILY KILLED

      Image
      Princess Ming Lu-da

Late last night a massive coordinated attack took place at hundreds of locations across Songjiang and even in other nations against members of the royal family. Members of the royal family and anyone who was near them were gunned down, stabbed, blown up or otherwise murdered by unknown enemies often disguised as Songjiang soldiers or police.

The Largest attack was against the Forbidden City and this attack included tanks presumably stolen from the imperial Army in the attack.Thought Manchu Guard fought bravely they were outnumbered and despite eventually repelling the attackers they could not prevent the enemy from killing the empress, five members of her family, and seven parliament members.

The most horrible attack was conducted against the Yu Chin boarding school 47 children under the age of 14 were killed among them Princess Ming Xia Zhelan, and Prince Ming Du Hong.

Authorities have informed us that some of the attacks were thwarted and royals were protected but the only confirmed Royal know to be alive at this point is Princess Ming Lu-da who was attending the Beijing Imperial Air-force Academy. She apparently had been at the time in the air doing a night time cargo plane training mission. After hearing the news the princess secluded herself before the Manchu Guard arrived and moved her to an undisclosed location.
The identities of the attacks are unknown but authorities be-leave it could be anti monarchist activists, Khanate Remnants, the Chinese, or even mercenaries hired by African powers.

Parliament has enacted an emergency session to decide what to do about succession, meanwhile firefighters have finally put out the blaze at the Forbidden City.

      Birth of Deutsch-Afrika

      Image
Hans Adolf I, Kaiser Von Deutsch-Afrika sporting his new Vanavoian Crown

After the Japanese Federation fired its first salvo's into the New Burgundian Reich and Sudafrika, it became clear that the war was won by the Memelians. Hans Adolf I (formerly known as Hans Adolf von Mutumbo) ordered his Schutztruppe to race the Japanese to Kaiser August Wilhelm XII's bunker. A few hours passed before the deed was done. With the Kaiser's decapitated head in his personal museum, Hans Adolf I initiated the largest military parade in history. Over 400,000 of his European trained troops goose stepped around the Kaiserliche Palast Burg Festung Resort und Casino for three hours while Hans Adolf I saluted them on top of his authentic Lukasovian throne.

Once the parade began to wind down, Hans Adolf I fired an artillery piece into the nearest Punufang town and declared that New Memel and Ndongoland was no more. With the added conquests on the South, East, and Northern fronts, the only fitting name for the nation would be the one chosen by the late General Schmidt Burg von Kleppenhauzer, "Deutsch-Afrika." With tears in his eyes, Hans Adolf I proclaimed that the Besgarian and Norman people, despite their physical appearance and low IQ, were honorary aryans.

The future of the region is certainly... Interesting. We will continue to monitor the situation.

Georg Krahl Found Dead as a Result of Heart Attack

Georg Krahl, Chairman of the CFSP and leader of the opposition, was found dead in his office at CFSP headquarters yesterday. According to the autopsy, the elderly man died due to heart complications. A controversial figure, Krahl's death will be tragic to some, and rejoiceful to others. Though Krahl had requested only a few weeks ago that his successor be Thomas Horst, the Administrative Board of the CFSP instead chose the reformist Alexander Vanhilter as the next Chairman. Vanhilter, who now leads the opposition, has not been shy in his praise of GUAP Chairman Willem Linssen's reforms. As an admirer of Franz Beckermann and Joseph Knigge, who are both often thought of as founding fathers of the Council Republics, and were the last two majority leaders from the Gehlerist Party, Vanhilter has long advocated for Democratic Centralism on a larger scale than just that of parties. It is likely Vanhilter will usher in a new epoch of cooperation not seen since the dissolution of the United Front in the early 50s.

      Prime Minister Hu Bing

After Parliament finally got itself set up in its new headquarters in Seoul the Prime minister quickly set to work addressing the Empire as a whole. He had this to say.
Songjiang has not fallen, the Ming Dynasty is not at an end. Like 300 years ago we find ourselves betrayed and backed into a corner, and like 300 years ago we will come out swinging.
Chairman Mao Zedong says we are weak claims he has won. I ask you what has he won? Did he get our shipyards?, did he get our automotive industry?, has he overrun our greatest colleges? No he hasnt.
These things still belong to us and while he has control of the Army we still have the Navy, the Marines, and the Air Force and mighty are they. These men and women won the day in Africa, they can
aim true and kill and stand tall against any enemy no-matter the odds. You will only see our soldiers back once he's dead.
We will rise we still have the tools and most of the war material that we payed for is under construction here, look behind me and behold our three soon to be complete carriers.
No we have not lost but a reckoning is coming to the traitors who dared raise arms against the Ming Dynasty and the Songjiang Empire, they and any who harbor them and who help them will face our wrath.

MASSACRE IN PRESSBURG
Over 300 democracy and labor activists murdered by regime police during New Year's protests

Pressburg - Protests for democracy and labor rights took a violent turn this New Year's Eve after regime police, militarized with heavy weapons and other dangerous tools, opened fire on a crowd and killed and injured hundreds.

The protests, which were organized by the Democratic Front for Justice and Freedom, started last evening in Pressburg before the turn of the New Year. Over 20,000 student activists and other discontented citizens quickly joined in to protest the Gulyás regime and it's crimes against humanity, democracy, and due process. The DFJF stated that it intended to resist the blocking of the Democratic and Liberal parties from participating in the upcoming election, calling it a "sham."

The protesters were also rallying against the economic woes facing Neuburg, including the rapidly increasing national debt and the devaluing of the currency. Additionally, many were protesting for the release of former Chancellor Augustin Bogdanic, who has been wrongfully accused of conspiring to bomb the government.

Pressburg police, later assisted by Slovakian provincial police, quickly arrived at the scene and cordoned off the town center, where the majority of the protests were taking place. Shortly after, Bohemian and Viennan police, armed with equipment supplied by the Royal Army, entered the town to assist in the anti-protesting measures.

At the turn of midnight, police started pursuing the crowds, attempting to break them up. After some scuffling, the protests turned violent, and the police opened fire. Over 300 of the protesters were killed and thousands wounded. Several hundred arrests were made as well.

The Ministry of the Interior simply commented that the "incident" was "instigated by violent terrorists" and "diligently quelled by [their] brave forces." Chairman Lenny Weber of the DFJF labeled it a "massacre" and "unjust bloodshed at the hands of an illegal regime."

The DFJF called for foreign support against the Gulyás regime, asking for international intervention to protect innocent civilians.
Pro: Democracy, liberalism, equality, justice

Victory in South Africa, "Protectorates" Established

      Image
      Cape Town, Namakwa

After a grueling campaign by the "Asian Coalition" to dismantle the fascist state of Sudafrika, a peace treaty was signed which left the Panjali government in control of two regions in South Africa. After short deliberation, the State Department decided the best course of action is to create two new "Protectorate States:" Namakwa in the west, and Kwazulu in the east. These Protectorate States will function almost exactly the same as all mainland Panjali states; with local Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches and seats in the two Federal Legislative Houses. But, a few extra restrictions will be in place for the Protectorates: First, the Protectorates will not be able to form local militias or guards, save for police forces. Second, executive leaders in the Protectorates will be vetted and approved by the Federal Legislative Committees, rather than local ones. Lastly, the Federal Executive branch will have greater managerial control over the protectorates than in typical Panjali states.

The question of citizenship was also answered, with the State Department saying that citizens of the protectorates will be granted full Panjali citizenship, standing by the core principle of "no taxation without representation."
