I think you kind of missed the point, the space tech isn't anything that would give an actual edge. The Cyenthans themselves largely don't understand it. They have faster than light travel but they lack traditional sci fi tech. There's no terraforming that would aid in space colonization or anything like that, nor are there advanced space based weapons. Hell, you can shoot down a Cyenthan spaceship with a SAM site easier than you can shoot down a jet, because they're slow moving lumbering things when they're in the atmosphere. The main contribution that the Cyenthans made to the world is their bacteria... And that was a complete accident that nobody could predict.

Their technology isn't much better than ours, and while humanity has recovered Cyenthan starships, they haven't proven useful for anything. Unless you consider being able to take pictures of deep space useful.

oh, in that case, it makes sense then. NASA would enjoy the tech for their satellites.

PHOENIX ACADEMY: SECTION B APPLICATION

VITALS

Name: Aella Piennaar
Nickname/Alias: N/A
Appearance:
Image

Gender: Female
Age: 23
Build: 58kg/171cm (9st 1lb/5' 6")
Primary Ability: Aella's main ability is what she refers to as 'peak human potential'; she's unlimited in what she can learn to do both physically and mentally, so long as it remains within the bounds of what any single person could do if they focused everything on it.

Other Abilities: Aella has a single secondary ability, which is an increased aptitude to learn.

Power Drawbacks: Aella's power... Isn't really a power, when it comes down to it. She can't do anything special or unique, she can just do things normal people can do individually. She also only learns things faster, not instantly, so it still

Equipment: Milkor MGL, suppressed B&T MP9, H&K VP9, HK417 and multiple knives located across her person. She doesn't bring them all along at once, but normally brings the VP9 and one other weapon plus a Fairburn-Sykes fighting knife and a bandolieer and belt of throwing knives and grenades, ballistic vest, ballistic gas mask, thermal goggles and helmet.

DETAILS

Nationality: By birth, South African. By passport, German. By what she considers herself, stateless.
Hometown: Cullinan, although she doesn't know this.
Sexuality: Doesn't know.

Biggest Flaw: Aella has a mountain of abandonment and trust issues a mile high. She deeply wants to find someone, anyone, she can trust since she's never had anyone, but equally doesn't want to get burned again by trusting anyone. She'll probably latch onto the first person who's nice to her unreservedly with no catches.
Main Skills: Aella, thanks to her power and her life in general, has amassed quite a large variety of skills. She speaks multiple languages fluently or near fluently, including English, French, Tunisian Arabic, Italian, German, Russian and Mandarin, she's completed two thirds of a medical degree, is a brown belt in Brazilian jiujitsu, has extensive experience with Muay Thai and is competent although not exceptional with all of her firearms of choice. She also has considerable amounts of stamina and is rather fast, and her life has given her a knack for both lying and recognising when others are lying or are playing her. She's also quite a good pickpocket.

Personality: Aella portrays herself as a self-reliant, confident individual, always with a plan, always with a way out and knowing what to do. She's pragmatic and cold to the point of ruthlessness, tense and jumpy at all times, has an extremely dark and morbid sense of humour and doesn't really get Western society, having always had a fight to survive so this world of plenty is alien to her. She doesn't understand why people care about things that seem pointless to her and has little regard for life but under it all simply wants someone she can trust to be around her forever and not screw her over for their own gain.

Biography: Aella never knew her parents. She doesn't even know her mother's name, and the only reason she knows her father's name is infamy. His name was Jan Piennaar, the 'Last Warlord of Africa.' Jan, in the early 1990s and the closing stages of apartheid, mustered an army of fellow Afrikanner metahumans and took over the northeast of the country, crossing the border into Zimbabwe and Botswana and adding them to his territory, finding much support in the former given Mughabe's disasterous policies.

However, his empire came to an end when a Chinese-led and organised task force of heroes and conventional forces invaded his little fiefdom, killing Jan. Aella was smuggled out to Europe to live with her 'Uncle', Jan's money launderer and chief financial advisor. Her father had transfered almost all of his assets out of Africa before his death, and so Aella stood to inherit a vast financial empire. After manuevering himself into custody over her father's wealth and assets over a year, her Uncle promptly abandoned her on the streets of Tunis, leaving her to die.

Aella got lucky, however, and didn't die. Instead, she was picked up by a Tunisian family who believed she was a lost Western tourist and sought a reward from her parents. She was taken through all the Embassies in Tunis, looking for that of her parents who would have reported their missing child to their embassy, but they found nothing. The family, whom Aella had stayed with for a few days and picked up some Arabic from, realising there was no reward for finding her, placed her into an orphanage. The orphanage was a place to sleep, but nothing more. When she wasn't in school, she was on the streets, begging, pickpocketing, anything for money for more food. Although she didn't know it at the time, she was approached by members of a radical Islamic terror group, who paid her to act as a courier and a bomb planter. It was easy money, or so she thought, so she spent several years working for a terrorist organisation, living off their pay alongside her own gains from pickpocketing, mugging, robbery and whatever else she got into.

At the age of 15, and fully aware she wasn't Tunisian from her Caucasian appearance, she sold one of her kidneys to an organ smuggler in exchange for enough cash for passage to Europe. It was a dangerous journey, and their boat, overloaded, actually sank before she was rescued by the Italian coast guard. As she was stateless, without any form of ID or parents, Aella ended up in an extremely complex and convoluted legal mess. Being an illegal immigrant, she had to be deported back to her country of origin, but due to being stateless this couldn't be determined, but her complete and utter lack of records anywhere meant she couldn't be confirmed as stateless either. Being a legal mess, the Italian judicial system decided the simplest solution was instead to send her to Germany, where the law allowed the government to declare her stateless before promptly sending her back to Italy, as that was where she had arrived. With her legal mess cleared up, Aella was placed in yet another orphanage, and sent to school in Italy.

Aella, even knowing only Tunisian Arabic, and having to learn Italian along with the rest of her education, took to the European education system like a fish to water. She excelled seemingly everywhere, devouring knowledge and learning at a frankly absurd rate, both from her own eagerness and hunger to learn and from her then-unknown powers. With her schooling going extremely well, even though she found herself friendless, unable to relate to any of her classmates in this new world, and even bullied for her strangely-accented Italian, her overreactions to the smallest of pranks, the constant tenseness she had. Naturally, she lashed out physically, and only barely avoided being expelled.

She was chided by her guardians, who suggested that she instead channel her anger and energy into martial arts, and so seeking to see if her academic performance could be replicated with more physical skills, she took up Muay Thai and Brazilian Jujitsu. She excelled at both, although she personally preferred the former and so focused more on that and thus developed her skills in it faster. She left school and entered university, her exceptional academic performance allowing her to attend the University of Siena to study medicine and surgery. While at university, she allowed herself to get curious and research where she came from. A DNA test pinned her parents down as Afrikanner and Russian, a combination which left her very confused, but her surname matched up, so it made sense.

Of course, that left how she ended up on the streets of Tunisia, so she tracked down a post-cog to find out. She threatened the post-cog, received her life story, and promptly murdered the post-cog in a fit of rage and disbelief. She had expected something unusual, but not what she'd gotten. The murder brought her to the attention of the police, and so she ran, leaving her medical degree behind.

The streets suited her, she found. It was like seeing an old friend, needing to beg and steal to survive. She found a place in illegal fighting rings, fighting for money to survive, learning to patch herself up afterwards. It was through the fighting rings that she was noticed by the Academy, and so she was brought in and tested for powers. When she was revealed to have them, she was swiftly inducted into the Academy where she learned to use firearms and knives in addition to honing her pre-existing unarmed combat skills.

PHOENIX ACADEMY: SECTION B APPLICATION

VITALS

Name: Maria Ludwig
Species: Human
Nickname/Alias: Holiday Meds
Appearance:
Image

Gender: Female
Age: 18
Build: 5' 10" 108 lbs

Primary Ability: Her blood can heal wounds such as bleeding, broken bones, and trauma as well as treating common illnesses such as the Flu. It could reattach broken or torn-off limbs of a wounded person, but it could not cause regrowth of an entire body part or organ without consuming numerous liters of her blood and time.

Other Abilities: Her blood becomes corrosive and acidic based on adrenaline levels and by how much she is aroused. This will not nullify the healing properties of her blood, but instead significantly slows it down the process and increase the pain inflicted from the wound. (Imagine putting a hand full of paper cuts into the Dead Sea, the saltiest sea in the world, for a minute and that's what it's like having corrosive healing blood placed on a wound.)

Power Drawbacks:
Her blood expires when it leaves from her body. It lasts 60 seconds without refrigeration, 4 hours with refrigeration. After it expires, the blood loses all of its healing properties and becomes poisonous like eel's blood. So whenever Maria administers her healing blood, make sure she checks the expiration date.

Also, Maria cannot heal wounds that have already been healed, such as scars, which means she would have to reopen them in order for her blood to work.

Her blood cannot heal as efficiently is the person is on fire or dumped in acid since they both also deal damage to the blood down to the cells. The fire has to be put out in order for the treatment to work.

Although the blood acts as a form anesthesia when applied to the wound, it causes side effects depending on where the blood is administered:

Chest: when applied here, the patient would feel its heart rate drop to the extent that he will experience extreme fatigue

Lower Abdomen: when applied here, the patient would experience the "pines and needles" sensation although out his legs and all the way up to his thighs.

Head: when applied here, the patient will experience blurry vision, reduced motor control, and lose sense of balance.

Equipment:
- bag of surgeon's scalpel knives
- several vials and containers
- electric bonesaw
- syringes

DETAILS

Nationality: German
Hometown: Mittenwald
Sexuality: Unconcerned

Biggest Flaw: Lacks proper weapon training for medium and long range engagements.
Main Skills:
- capable of surgical operations.
- excellent knife-thrower for stealth takedowns
- knows how a poison works and the effects of it
- very good a harvesting organs and disposing bodies
- Knows proper first-aid treatment to use in case she doesn't feel like wasting her blood on pointless patients
Personality: Though she lacks compassion, meta-human and human dignity, and medical ethics for her patients, Maria enjoys learning and performing medical operations whenever she can, with or without consent. She inherited her father's desire to collect organs to stuff into jars for future examination. If she isn't talking about medicine and surgery, Maria is usually talking to her pet doves, studying English and German, or practice throwing knives around.

Biography: Maria's mother died of childbirth when she was conceived and so, her father had to take up the responsibility of raising her. As you can imagine, her father was in the field of medicine to satisfy his own curiosity on how bodies function and react to outside forces. This mentality was all that Maria knows and admires as she knew nothing of the outside world when her father kept her a prisoner of her own home. When it was discovered that she had meta-human powers of healing, her father wasted no time experimenting and dissecting her to seek the key to human immortality.

In time, he grew bored of experimenting on her and began the path of being a body snatcher. Every night, Maria's father would come home a new victim and he would have Maria help perform a live dissection. Maria always looks forward to Christmas as it was a time when her father would kidnap kids of her age and have her play "doctor" with them.

But as she grew older, she began to see the toll of being a widow breakdown on her father's sanity. It would lead to his arrest in a house raid when the Interpol finally got a warrant to search his house. Deemed too insane to be judged, Maria's father would spend the rest of his days in the German mental hospital for the criminally insane. Maria hid herself during the raid and fled into the night brought with her, her father's tools and weapons to begin her own life in the outside world.

The healing is going to have to be toned down a lot considering right now it can cure every wound and disease and the only real drawback is that the blood has to be used within four days. Which... Is hardly a practical drawback at all. And it pretty much takes a lot of challenge away from everyone when literally any injury except for a served limb or outright death by one healer, just like the last time the power was here.

I also don't really understand how she survives getting her brain torn apart, nor do I see any background for why she's a yandere/how she's a yandere when she displays sociopathic traits regularly and doesn't just become that way because of a love interest.

Alright, having read a fair bit of the lore, time to ask the obligatory character questions.

1) What's the power level? I don't think I'll bring him here, but would someone like Dagon be too strong?

2) If we wanted to create a race of aliens that would act similar to a character specific faction (likely not affecting the main plot or having ties to anyone outside of my characters), would that be ok? The plan is to make the aliens similar to or exactly like the parasites that infected Val in AoV. In case that doesn't jog your brain, they're kind of undulating slimes that pair and take over the host in order to bond with the apex predator of that world for colonization. No real culture, no real tech level, just space viruses.

3) When you say be careful with tech, are things like nanobot swarms, gene altering serums, and durable power armor considered too far above the current means of this universe?

PHOENIX ACADEMY: SECTION B APPLICATION

VITALS

Name: Kestos Illrion
Species: Meta-Human
Nickname/Alias: Void
Appearance:
Image

Gender: Male
Age: 23
Build: 6'2 ft(1.88m) and 180 lbs(81.65kg)

Primary Ability: Dark Matter comprises eighty five percent of the Universe. Invisible. Below the level of human perception and all the Laws of the Universe. It's power is both mysterious and seductive and after carefully studying it's dark energies, has Kestos reached the mastery of it's power to such levels as he has.

Dark Energy Beams: He is capable of concentrating it into devastating blasts of dark energy that leaves colorless dust behind. The targets can be anything in his line of sight from planes to trains. It is by far the oldest of his powers and the most refined, able to concentrate the beams on a pinpoint as small as a pinhead and around six feet at it's widest. The range is as far as sight. The blasts corrode and burn flesh, turning the flesh that is burned in to dust. The blast has first collected, becoming a black energy wave snapping and crackling with excess charge. It usually takes a moment, around ten seconds, for each blast to be prepared. He also has to aim each blast before he fires. But when he does, the blast causes up to one to two degree burns and able to dent steel plate at a hundred feet. The beams travel at 1000 mps.

Dark Matter Teleportation: One of the most difficult of his powers and one that he can only use in situations that require him to escape, he is able to slip outside of the regular universe, becoming part of dark matter and swimming it's dark waves. He can then step out and reappear seemingly from nowhere in whatever location he has been to before and remembers correctly. Reappearing inside a wall is no fun. It is the latest of his powers, and the most seductive. When using the power he almost never wants to leave when he slips out of reality. This power is so seductive, only in the most desperate situations will Kestos use this power.

Dark Energy Invisibility and Discorporate or Sumere: He can also render himself invisible by allowing the power of the Dark Matter to coalesce and penetrate his physical form. It takes at least an hour of drawing the power and letting the power have time to subsume his entire being. While becoming Sumere, as he calls it, he cannot be disturbed or else he has to start all over, requiring peace and meditation. While Sumere he can observe and move about the physical universe but it cannot effect him nor he effect it. He can be rendered non-Discorporate and Invisible by a heavy dose of radiation or extreme and sudden heat or cold for some reason he has yet to quantify. He can also be seen by those who can see below the visible spectrum.

Other Abilities: Immunities: In the full grip of his power as he has become, he no longer ages and will appear as a young man forever. He is also immune to poison and other active effects such as stimulants, depressors, and anesthesia. Radiation has no effect on him.

Power Drawbacks: Being in the regular universe among matter weakens him constantly. Despite the level of power he can draw upon, without drawing upon it he only benefits from the passive abilities of immunity from sickness or age. If he needs to use his powers, they come to him slowly, like a reluctant lover. He also lacks many senses that humans and other meta-humans rely upon such as smell, taste, and is completely colorblind. Drawing on too much of his power will eventually force him to leave the universe entirely one day and live within the dark matter for eternity. As it has brought this about, most of what made Kestos himself has drained away, starting with emotions. He no longer feels a desire for most things, except for his one burning ambition.

Equipment: None

DETAILS

Nationality: Greek
Hometown: Thebes
Sexuality: Heterosexual

Biggest Flaw: He knows that his time in this realm is drawing to an end. For this reason, he is incredibly unpredictable, hyper-violent, prone to rages and outbursts that are rare but no less violent. He also does not feel or relate to human emotion.
Main Skills: Communication, leadership, patience, research, and observation

Personality: To the random passer-by, good or evil, a clean and friendly tone is met. Exceptionally charismatic and emanating a powerful aura of confidence and strength, he rarely has much trouble with charming most people he crosses paths with. But still, something about him is not quite right. It's nothing you can put your finger on, and the average denizen will never notice much of it. But to those of insight and/or experience, he will not manage to retain the slippery and silver-covered appearance he tries so hard to uphold. Deep down, they will know something is off, without having anything clear to point at. It's a hunch and a gut feeling.

But underneath the relatively smooth surface, darkness broods. The deception employed to reach the ultimate goal is beyond imagination, both in creativity and ruthlessness. He will stop at nothing - no magic, no uttered word, no lie, no incompassionate and cold-blooded murder - nothing is taboo. Whatever it takes to preserve the chances he believes himself to have at an even greater existence, he will do. Without so much as flinching, he will lie your skin full, while witnessing the slaughter of your own children right behind your back. Cold of heart and ruthless in method, to say that the hunger for power drives him to become a fatally dangerous person to come across is a vast understatement.

Always is he thinking ahead and towards the greater goal. A sly and cunning sense of choosing his battles has evolved, which to win, which to lose, and which to not engage in at all. It has become his speciality and his most sacred weapon, to trick people into underestimating himself, always keeping all his cards as close to his chest as possible.

Loyalty, as we define it, does not exist in his mind. Loyalty is only something that can exist so long there is a mutual need for each other's help or services. Once that condition goes away, so does any alliance. No matter who, no matter what, no matter where - the word of the Void cannot be taken for truth. In a nutshell, he will feed you the words he believes necessary for you to come around, abuse your skills/person/items to and for his own benefit, and leave you to the wolves afterwards. He's not one to commit an outright stab in the back, but he holds no allegiance to anyone, unless he sees an opportunity to gain something from these.

Biography: Kestos Illrion was born to wealthy parents in the city of Thebes. His father owned a shipping company that did business around the world and his mother had been a world famous runway model. Their marriage had been typical; his father was a womanizer and drinker. His mother was a cold beauty, preferring her jewels and riches than being a mother. The fact that their marriage bed had been able to produce one child was a miracle and Kestos strongly suspects that he might not even be his father's. However, that was his beginning of all things. Despite their obvious shortcomings, they were happy to finally have a child in their sprawling manse outside the city, even if the joy that was Kestos was short lived.

From birth he was a strange child. At first, his parents were worried that Kestos was somehow mentally incapacitated; he did not speak a word until he was three. However, once he began speaking it was with a nuance and clarity unheard of in children thrice his age. Nor did he play with other children, sneering at any attempt and wandering off to seek solitude. His parents knew he was precocious and honestly, their lives demanded their full attention and had no time to give Kestos the time he deserved or needed. He was left to wander on his own, discovering the potentials of what he was capable of.

It was five when he first discovered that he could manipulate something he initially began calling Kaos. At first, it began as a dark secret, yet another to add to his collection. He had already been collecting and slaughtering pets and torturing the staff of his parents' home. Being able to manipulate the Kaos was more intoxicating than the first time he opened a dog's belly, or the time he had made a maid trip and break a leg while carrying laundry. It whispered possibilities. Experimenting, he discovered it had many uses. The beams of dark light that stabbed and burned were pleasurable beyond anything of the flesh. However, it was nothing compared to teleportation or becoming invisible.

It was at this time that he began to lose his senses. To him, it was a worthy exchange.

By the time he was fifteen, he had explored the limits of his power and what he would do. It was simple really when it all came down to it. Going Sumere, he ambled through the sprawling mansion and delivered death, personally strangling his mother and stabbing his father repeatedly with the cook's knife. With his father's blood still dripping on the knife, he went to the servant's quarter and killed every staff member he could find. With that accomplished, it was ludicrously easy to set fire to the mansion and "escape" only by sheer luck. When the authorities arrived, he played the distraught and broken teenage boy masterfully.

He was too young to yet inherit his father's fortune. It remained in trust while Kestos went to live with his mother's uncle in Budapest. His mother's uncle was an incontinent invalid. Kestos spent the next three years punishing the man so badly that, near his eighteenth birthday, the man blew his brains out. Luckily, he was so close to his majority it didn't matter. He returned to Greece, inherited his father's fortune, and then sold the business at an exorbitant sum, earning near four times the value of the company than what it was actually worth.

Using the money, he began to travel, exploring the depths of his power while delighting in all of his tastes in war-zones across the world. Using the capital he had collected, he bought and sold companies, all at much more than their value. However, the older he became, the more he began to realize something; he was slipping, losing control...it was a dark night in Tokyo when he realized that he would soon slip in to the Void and no longer be able to come back.

It was only then that he decided he would need help, much as it belittled him to even contemplate it. And it was how he found himself heading towards Phoenix Atoll seeking the help of those who would call themselves villains.

PHOENIX ACADEMY: SECTION B APPLICATION

VITALS

Name: Rick Chevalis
Species: Human
Nickname/Alias: Psycho Storm
Appearance:
Image

Basically, Rick dresses to intimidate. He regularly uses dark cosmetics to underscore his eyes. Spiky hair (often semi-dyed white) and a snarl punctuate his normal look. Don't think Rick will look better on a good day. This is him on a good day.

Gender: Male
Age: 22
Build: 5'8, 188 lbs.

Primary Ability: When it rains... - Rick regularly alters minds according to what the weather is like outside. The power affects a single target at a time. However, after about 30 seconds, Rick can also alter other targets, up to five at a time. Rick's ability affects all species, human and alien. Rick most of the time can turn this ability on and off - but sometimes it slips out of his control, especially when he cannot control himself. Rick's ability can also be used when other metas use their abilities (e.g., if an electrical-blaster is firing off quick lightning bolts, Rick can make a nearby target suffer the effects as if it were a naturally occurring thunderstorm; if an ice blaster shoots ice, Rick can make a nearby target suffer the effect of a naturally occurring cold day). Minds are altered in the following ways according to weather conditions -
 • Rainy - Depressed. A light sprinkle makes people feel just kind of blue. A heavy downpour can make people feel suicidal and hopeless.
 • Nice and Sunny - Calm. The more sunshine, the more people feel like they are on sedatives. Unwilling to do much of anything other than just be.
 • Hot - Angry. The higher the thermometer reads, the more aggressive, jumpy and even homicidal people will get. And not necessarily at Rick, either, but at anyone.
 • Cold - Suspicious. The lower the thermometer reads, the more wary, suspicious and even paranoid people will get. And not necessarily at Rick, either, but at everyone and everything.
 • Windy - Frustrated. When the winds pick up, even the simplest thing will annoy, frustrate and cause people to snap. The more wind, the easier it is to snap and the harder it is to keep one's cool and do what one was planning. The target MUST try to get whatever the frustration is resolved, or at least lash out at whatever or whoever the frustration is. Sucks for tornadoes and hurricanes.
 • Snow - Reckless. Lots of snow activities involve high speed, action and thrill-seeking. Rick's ability makes people more reckless when it snows. The more it snows, the more likely people are to do foolhardy, reckless and unsafe things.
 • Thunder and Lightning - Afraid. When thunder booms and lightning flashes, people will become afraid. Of any little thing, or everything. The more frequent in time the thunder and lightning, the greater the fear.
 • Fog - Forgetful. Just as fog covers over everything and you can't see clearly, so Rick's ability causes people to forget short term in this type of weather. The more fog, the more memory fades.
 • Grey - Sick. When the weather is grey and gloomy, Rick can make people feel physically sick. This effect depends on a number of conditions, e.g., lack of sun, overcast clouds, elevated barometric pressure, slight chill. When such conditions are present, Rick can make people feel like they have the flu, fever, etc., even to the point of vomiting and getting the chills.

Other Abilities:
 • Storm is Coming - Rick can sense what the weather will be, for up to about half an hour from his present location.
 • Singin' in the Rain - Rick's movement and senses are completely unaffected by weather. He could walk through a tornado. See clearly through heavy fog or snow. Not slip on ice even when running. This also applies to weather-related powers (so while he would suffer the same amount of harm if hit by a hero's lightning bolt, Rick wouldn't suffer from effects of powers, like an ice hero making the floor slick).
 • Black Hole Sun - Rick has a complete psychic immunity to any psionic communication or attack. His mind cannot be altered by any psionic powers. He is impervious to telepathy (telepaths would just pick up 'static' trying to read Rick's mind.)
 • Adaptive Mind - While Rick cannot think any quicker than normal, he is able to adapt to sudden changes and surprises much better than normal. He is rarely caught off-guard, and can instantly react. This does not grant him any physical heightened reflexes, and will not be able to avoid attacks. But it will help when a wrench is thrown in the plans.

Power Drawbacks:
 • Rick cannot control the weather. What the weather is, is what Rick has to work with.
 • Rick's combat abilities come from normal training and effort. His main ability grants an advantage over his opponent depending on the weather, but won't make Rick a better warrior because of it.
 • With Rick's adaptive mind, he is granted no physical heightened reactions. He cannot avoid attacks more than any normally trained person. He can only adapt to new situations better.

Equipment: Rick carries two loaded handguns on him at all times (Colt .45's). He also has a hunting knife. He has a smart phone that he basically uses to see weather radar. No car. An MP3 player with mostly punk and metal tracks. Anti-psychotics, anti-depressants and similar meds. Other normal odds and ends.

DETAILS

Nationality: American
Hometown: Chicago
Sexuality: Straight

Biggest Flaw: Rick doesn't work well with groups. People tend to see him as nuts, and regularly avoid him. This makes for difficulties, since Rick's main abilities can only hinder opponents and give them disadvantages, and will not necessarily secure him a win.
Main Skills: Observing. Surviving. Throwing wrenches into other peoples' plans if he finds it interesting enough.

Personality: Manic-depressive. Rick can sometimes act withdrawn and anti-social, depressed and paranoid. Other times, he is on top of the world, and thinks that nothing can go wrong, that he will automatically succeed no matter what he does. His moods can shift suddenly. He is supposed to take meds for this, but doesn't always, and is not the most responsible pill-taker. People often find him unstable, moody and certifiable.

Biography: Rick Chevalis was an orphan. Never knew his parents, and grew up as a ward of the state in Chicago. At times he was sent to foster homes, and at other times, stayed in several orphanages, sometimes shifting from one home to another. Given this lack of stability and kind of background, Rick grew to be distrustful, independent and feeling unwanted. It was at a young age in one of the rougher orphanages when Rick's main ability began to form. When older orphans ganged up on younger ones, something in Rick awoke. It was a stormy day outside, full of lightning and thunder, and Rick sort of "reached out" with his mind at the leader of the older gang. The leader immediately sat down in a fetal position, began to cower and wet himself, all the while mumbling that he just wanted to die. The young Rick was astounded, but saw advantages in this. The violence against him didn't stop immediately. But it eventually became clear that if you were going to pick on Rick, weird things would happen to you. And eventually, the bullies left him alone. His other powers began manifesting themselves shortly thereafter.

After coming of legal age, Rick tried to get into colleges but had no money, not being able to find many scholarships. He picked up a few classes at local community colleges, but basically had to work. He bounced around from job to job, never being able to hold a steady job for more than a month or two. At his last job, working at a bar, one of the bar patrons had mentioned to a friend about hearing of a school for training people with abilities, people who were more than willing to cut corners and go outside the rules. With the new knowledge in mind, Rick approached the man to find out more. As it turned out, the man had done more than just hearing of the school. He was actively recruiting for the school. And seeing Rick pass the test for having a unique ability (it being a sunny day, Rick made an angry drunk immediately calm and sedate), the man took Rick to the school. And the rest is history.

I've been seconded onto power advice duties by Forest, so here's a few idle tired thoughts. The main issue with healing powers is, as Forest has already said, that it takes challenge away if we can patch everything up. Personal suggestion would be to give the blood side effects of some form, debilitating nausea, disorientation, acting as general anesthetic, something that renders whoever it's used on combat ineffective so its use has to be strategic since we lose whoever it's used on for several hours afterwards.

Maybe make it more of a temporary thing, so the effects fade after a period of time and/or give it an extremely fast external expiry time to limit its use to where she's there in person and thus how much she can use without dying is limited? Probably should also make the level of damage healable scale with the quantity of blood used.

Doughertania wrote:Alright, having read a fair bit of the lore, time to ask the obligatory character questions.

The power level is pretty much what's outlined in the rules. But probably a bit more strictly enforced this time even if the rules themselves are probably a bit less detailed than they were last time out. Dagon is probably too strong and characters that break the 4th wall also probably won't be accepted this time around.

Normally, adding factions would be something reserved for players that are proven to be active and able to handle doing this, and so are other things such as new species. But it's not ruled out if it's something that's more purely mechanical than something with larger story implications. Depends on what's planned with it, really. And with tech, all of those things would be considered too high tech most likely. Maybe gene altering serums would be allowed, but they would likely be in a primitive rather than advanced form. The tech level is higher than real life though, just not at sci fi levels.

PHOENIX ACADEMY: SECTION B APPLICATION

VITALS

Name: Kane Davidson
Nickname/Alias: Hype Man
Appearance:
Image

Gender: Male
Age: 21
Build: 6'2, 220lbs with well toned body.

Primary Ability: Kane possesses a vastly superior body condition to that of humans that can be considered magical in nature. He's capable of bench pressing 2 metric tons, running up to 30 MPH, is highly resistant to bladed and blunt force attacks and his skin can completely stop pistol rounds while intermediate rifle rounds and buckshot tends to stop just past his muscles requiring full size rifle rounds and possibly slugs to put him down. His bones can take vastly more punishment before they even begin to crack and his senses are very powerful including his reaction time. He's immune to most diseases and highly resistant to toxins. He can hold his breath for up to an hour and can go without tiring for days.

Other Abilities: Kane also has a healing factor though not a powerful one. He can heal a single gunshot wound within about 15 seconds and all in all, being riddled with bullets can take up to 5 minutes to heal if it doesn't kill him first. Losing limbs can take days to heal as does losing organs.

Power Drawbacks: To maintain his body, Kane requires massive amounts of nutrition of up to 9000 calories on just a lazy day and upwards up to 14,000 calories a day for a fairly active day. His extreme metabolism makes this possible and his core body temperature is as high as 42 centigrade at rest meaning he can't tolerate high temperature climates very well. While he will survive going up to core body temperatures of 50 centigrade, his performance will suffer horribly for it. Also during healing, his body will consume even more energy meaning he has to eat up to another 5000 calories just to keep up. Despite his senses, he isn't a crack shot either and doesn't really have much formal training with firearms.

Equipment: Various blunt and sharp instruments in his personal armoury that vary from claw hammers and screwdrivers to halberds and longswords. He also has two AKM rifles, two Glock 20s chambered in 10mm Automatic, two Uzi submachine guns and two double barrelled sawn off 8 gauge shotguns. He won't carry them all at once but he carries a fair few things on him at once. On top of that is some level 3A soft body armour he keeps with him to stop the pain of being shot.

DETAILS

Nationality: United Kingdom
Hometown: Castleton, Lancashire, Northern England
Sexuality: Bisexual, prefers women

Biggest Flaw: Kane is addicted to cocaine as well as being an alcoholic.
Main Skills: Kane has a really big appetite and as such learned how to cook. Nothing too impressive, but he can cook to feed a lot of people with ease. He can also dance to both classic and modern music. He's also a very skilled parkour expert and a master of various martial arts including but not exclusive to Sambo and Brazilian Jujitsu

Personality: Kane is known for being foul mouthed and a smart ass. He's also known for being a giant asshole. He doesn't take most situations seriously, loves to push peoples buttons with childish and cruel jokes and thoroughly enjoys banter and will always love it when people start making the same kinds of jokes towards him. Name calling and taunting are some of the things he's near enough mastered being able to drum them out at a staggering rate that can take one back a bit. He's also materialistic and likely won't do anything for anyone unless he's getting something out of it. He does however know when to be polite when needed and despite his massive personality flaws he's got a strong sense of right and wrong and will call people out for going overboard with a joke, bully someone or be a general menace to society. This is coming from a professional armed robber.

Biography: Kane was born in 1997 to a human father, Andrew Davidson and a metahuman mother, Lillian Davidson. His mother has greatly enhanced intelligence unlike Kane and owned a relatively small but successful business that dealt with building and repairing specialised construction and mining equipment that the local quarry used frequently. Because of all this him and his family lived a very cosy life in the countryside town of Castleton and tended to help his mother out in the workshop or sometimes help his father in the local pub they ran. He was highly interested in mechanics and later on in school discovered his interest in electronics which made his parents confident he would grow up to be an electrician of sorts. That was up until the day his father suffered a stroke, he was 18 at the time. He didn't even get to see his father one last time before he died in hospital, however, he wouldn't be the one so badly affected by his death.

His mother had a mental breakdown at the news of her husbands death and isolated herself in her room for days, only coming out when he was asleep to eat and drink. The day later came that Kane awoke to find his mother's room unlocked and her not in there. He reasoned that she'd finally decided to come out but his assumptions were shot down when he found a note on her bed telling Kane that she couldn't stay anymore, that she was too broken to be around him and that she had left the country to fix herself. Kane was angry and heartbroken. Not only had his father died but he felt that his mother had abandoned him too and it wasn't even a month when Kane sold off the family's pub and and company before packing up and moving to the US where he became something unlikely. A thief. Kane started off small, mugging the ones he felt would have cash on them such as men in suits and old people and eventually yearned for more and he eventually used his abilities and skills to go into armed robbery, starting of small once again by robbing corner stores and such. Eventually he gained enough of a reputation to be getting connections to bigger and badder individuals where he was able to get access to the resources needed to pull of major bank robberies and jewellery store heists. Kane became one of many professional masked crooks that actually stood out among them all, the Hype Man. One of the most successful heisters the world had ever saw. This got the attention of the academy who brought him into their fold with the promise of riches.

PHOENIX ACADEMY: SECTION B APPLICATION

VITALS

Name: Martha Hearn-Dhawan
Species: Human
Nickname/Alias: Crystal
Appearance:

Gender: Female
Age: 19
Build: (You can include height and weight here.)

Primary Ability:
Power Crystals - She can generate crystals that can be used to create a variety of effects similar to powers, like bursts of flame, super strength, teleportation, etc or even create objects as simple as a knife or complex as a computer. The possible applications of her crystals are only as limited as her imagination, and she can theoretically have any number of crystals present in the world.

Other Abilities:
Crystal Constructs - She can sacrifice the powers of her crystal in exchange for size, each crystal able to grow to the size of a large room, though the larger they grow the more fragile they get, ranging from the strength of iron (the size of a leg) to the strength of a thin sheet of ice (the size of a large room). She can only control the shape of the crystals as they grow, which can take anywhere from five minutes to an hour, depending on how durable and/or large she wants it to be. Crystals can be fused together to create items, though complex things like firearms are too detailed to be made. She does have some telekinetic control of the crystals as well, able to make golem-like creatures using several different shards that are slightly larger than a human male and incredibly strong. Over the course of a day to a week, her crystal constructs dissolve, making them ineffective in the long-term.

Power Drawbacks:
- She can only summon a crystal every ten seconds
- Her crystals are large enough to extend from the tip of her middle finger to the bottom of her palm and roughly equivalent in weight to a similarly sized hunk of iron, limiting how many she can carry at a time, though they are as fragile as glass and unintentional breakage will release the power within in dangerous ways.
- Layering crystal effects on her body is dangerous, as the "code" that built the abilities up in the crystals could mix and create an unintended and potentially harmful effect instead of the desired one. Layering other powers, like pyrokinesis and dog mind control is not quite as bad, but it takes a lot of effort to switch over, making one power at a time the most practical route to go.
- Any power cannot last longer than a day, no matter how long it has had to develop.
- Her crystals gain power over time, with newly formed crystals barely able to do anything and a year old crystal able to do something like teleport her across the world. It takes around a month for a crystal to build to the point it can be of the power that a natural user of an ability achieves.
- She has to decide what she wants the crystals to be able to do when they are created, somewhat limiting the practical as opposed to possible versatility.
- With crystals that create items, the older they are the better the item. For example, creating a crystal that will become a bow and quiver of arrows will perhaps only make a thin plastic bow with a frayed string and a single bent arrow if she activates it right away.
- Single use crystals (a blast of fire, healing all current injuries, etc.) develop much faster than general power crystals (fire manipulation, telekinesis, etc.)
- Her crystals, if broken by someone else, can be used by them, even if they are her enemies. This makes lost crystals a cause for extreme concern, as she cannot dissolve crystals if she doesn't know where they are.
- Her crystal constructs also take time to create and do not last.
- Her golems are large and strong, but they are far too slow to do much good, taking a full second every time they take a step. While easy to avoid and outrun, they are more effective in close quarters or by wading into enemy lines where they can swing their arms with impunity.
- Golems take around 10% of her focus each, limiting her at ten if she is willing to let herself fall into a catatonic state until the golems dissolve. At just one her cognitive abilities begin to suffer; at three she loses her ability to create crystals and control of basic motor functions. Anything over five essentially leaves her with just enough ability to activate crystals and dissolve her golems. Even something like standing or holding an object would be nearly impossible.

Equipment: She uses her crystals to make things, so it changes depending on the mission. She rarely uses guns or other advanced technology, as they take more time than they're worth.

DETAILS

Nationality: Indian-American
Hometown: Mumbai/New York City
Sexuality: Flexible

Biggest Flaw: She is a very fragile girl, through no fault of her own, to the point that bumping into a table can leave a large bruise. She was just born that way. She is also very to physical pain, with even something as simple as a paper cut able to effectively incapacitate her for a few moments at the least. She once scraped her knee and could barely walk for a week, if that gives any indication of her frailty.
Main Skills: She is an excellent typist, painter, sculptor, and she has a relatively wide range of basic knowledge, always ready with a random fact. Her greatest talent is in acquiring languages, currently knowing English, Hindi, Urdu, Farsi, and French, as well as having a working knowledge of German, Tamil, Mandarin, Spanish, Swedish, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic. Despite most maths and sciences thoroughly confounding her, she has a keen understanding of money and how it works.

Personality:

This doesn't have to be completely scrapped, but it does need changes. Right now, you can effectively replicate whatever powers and do it with little practical downsides and only vague risks. This would work better if there was a set number of powers that she could replicate with her crystals, or rather, a set number of crystals that she could create, and if the selection of crystals was random. As in, every time she used the power, dice would be rolled to see which crystal she gets. It's a compromise to keep her versatile without giving her an easily exploitable power.

PHOENIX ACADEMY: SECTION B APPLICATION

VITALS

Name: Leopold Meckler
Species: Human
Nickname/Alias: "L" or The Lepidopterist
Appearance:
Image

Gender: Male
Age: 22
Build: 6' 1", 183 lbs (185.5 cm, 83.91 Kg)

Primary Ability:
 • Metamorphosis- Within a 15 foot radius of his body, Leopold is capable of controlling and manipulating non-living matter telekinetically. Regardless of its original shape, form, or function, Leopold can break it down into individual atoms (though keeping something atomized for more than a split second is nigh-impossible) and shape it to his will. He can re-solidify matter he is controlling into any form his creativity and mental capacity allows for. Leopold can form any ionic or covalent bond if the required atoms are available. According to the law of conservation of mass, Leopold can transform atoms seemingly alchemically into any other element he requires.

Other Abilities:
 • Telekinesis- Can manipulate matter within his 15 foot radius.
 • The nature of his primary ability also grants him the ability to intrinsically know the composition of materials with physical contact

Power Drawbacks:
 • He can get measurements correct within .9 mm, although, the less familiar he is with the object in question, the less accurate recreating it, or creating it from scratch will be.
 • Information seems to have trouble retaining integrity, so creation of flash drives or similar media storage is nearly impossible. Likewise, books require Leopold to remember every word he wishes to have placed on the pages.
 • Requires line of sight in order to exert his control over solid matter. If he were to manipulate a section of floor, he can only take control of the top later of molecules, so he must strip them away in order to take control of the next layer and so on. He can do this extremely quickly, but he cannot exert control over several kilograms of matter at a time. Once he has established control, he does not have to maintain eyesight to manipulate it. With physical contact, Leopold can take control of the entire mass of the object, however, this is still restricted to his 15ft/500 kg limits
 • His metamorphosis of element to element requires he transmute the atoms to the next atom heavier or lighter according to their number on the periodic table. It takes roughly one second per transmutation, but he can transmute all atoms under his control at once. So, in order to go from Hydrogen to Uranium would take 1 minute and 32 seconds
 • Leopold can create objects from thin air, but he can only take control of gases in contact with his skin. The same restriction applies to liquids.
 • Cannot manipulate his own body, or the bodies of other living organisms. However, be it either a mental or physical barrier, he can manipulate corpses.

Equipment: Leopold can create nearly any object he needs, including weapons, however, the relatively complex mechanisms of most guns take far longer to create than what would be required for them to be useful in a pinch. As a result, Leopold typically manifests sharp shapes and launch them telekinetically from his sphere of influence. However, if he is to make a gun, he usually settles on revolvers due to their relatively simple mechanism.

DETAILS

Nationality: Germany
Hometown: Hamburg
Sexuality: Heterosexual

Biggest Flaw: Leopold is a capable liar who finds it nearly impossible for him to approach anything without layers of emotional barriers and ulterior motives. He prefers to manipulate and mastermind, not putting himself in harms way or letting himself grow attached to anything.
Main Skills: Calculating, patient, and intelligent, Leopold's mind and creativity use his powers in ways that make him an extremely dangerous combatant in close quarters. He also prides himself in constantly working towards an end goal; in always playing an angle. He also seeks to strengthen his body and powers as much as his mind. While his physique is far from superhuman, it is defiantly well-maintained.

Personality: Meckler isn't a sadist or necessarily want harm to befall the general populace: he simple doesn't care. Leopold's only interest is himself. He can be charming, and even genuinely at times, but it is almost without fail to gain something for himself. His cons are long and insidious, it may take years or months, but Leopold will be a devout friend, companion, assistant for as long as it benefits him or he can move on to something better.

Biography: "Lets break the stereotypical mold of villains. I don't have some tragic backstory or abusive home life. My parents were normal people with decent careers that granted them a slightly lavish lifestyle. They made sure I attended private schools and had any Earthly need taken care of. I don't know if it was love or just a sense of responsibility, but they weren't overly emotionally supportive. I'm not complaining, I don't think I could stand the slow and stifling suffocation that would bring. I don't have any siblings, and never cared for making friends. I wouldn't say I enjoy being alone, but there isn't any apprehension in the prospect of facing it for prolonged periods of time.

And maybe it was this ambivalence towards most things that made me an odd fit with society. I never saw the joy in the little things, or even the acceptance of the mediocre and mundane. People seemed to think having some kind of 'important' position in life translated to having power of some sort. But what power!? That's not real power, real happiness! Its just the pitiful human attempt to rationalize mediocrity with forced satisfaction. There are people who walked our planet who posses legitimate power, but even then its just a limited measure. Perhaps the idea I'm trying to grasp with what I want from life is the possession of true power. But, I'm getting ahead of myself.

I was aware of my powers since primary school, but it took until Secondary for me to begin to understand just what the embracing of these powers could benefit me. I kept them somewhat under wraps in the manner of self interests. They weren't a secret, I made no attempt to pretend to be a normal human, but I tried to down play the extent of their reach. I soon realized their upper potential: complete mastery of the physical world. Some things are out of my reach, but its only a matter of time and training to bring them into my scope.

Heroism was never a concept that appealed to me. They're just playing parts in a broken system that caters to the lie of abject good and evil. I don't set out to harm the average person, but I don't see any reason why I should have guilt for gaining what I want. I suppose that makes me a sociopath, but its just another category in the endless masquerade people have nearly ubiquitously played into.

The final straw for my time in normal civilian life came when I was seventeen. It was a Tuesday and I was in class as a consequence. The matter was philosophy, and I had normally been able to pay lip service and prevent my true ideals from coming through, however, this time that option was revoked. Never had I possessed anyone I would call 'friend' but I had a loose circle of people whom I spent the majority of my time around. One of them questioned my answer in front of the class, and held me to it. Relenting, I gave them what I truly thought. About the sheep-like nature of everyone, including them, and even the most famous of the Global Shield. As expected, they thought my views folly, but something was different in me that day. I didn't back down, I held my ground and the students became more rabid to dismiss me. Their fragile jaded glasses were cracking and they panicked. Nothing could make them understand they were drowning in their ignorance. The Teacher ordered me and another student whom I came to verbal blows with to the headmaster's office, but I refused. The other student possessed some form of pyrokinesis and lashed out. It was almost reflex, but I formed a spike out of carbon in the air and launched it through his eye socket before he made it three steps. I realized the magnitude of what I'd done, so I acted fast.

I sealed the door and the windows, then I began to form projectiles as quickly as I could. To make sure I wouldn't be caught, I changed the first boy, the pyrokinetic, to have my face. I placed myself among the dead. I had never felt so liberated; free from the expectations and motions of civilian life I made a symbol, sharing material from all the dead, a red butterfly stretching across the floor under the bodies: a symbol of death. And rebirth..."

PHOENIX ACADEMY: SECTION B APPLICATION

VITALS

Name: Sage Kearney
Species: Homo Sapiens Arcanus (An Arcanum for those that know, mostly just passes as human)
Nickname/Alias: 7-G1-002, Mantle
Appearance:
Image
Image

Gender: Varies, Dominantly Female
Age: 20
Build: 6’3”, Looks to be about 180lbs, is actually about 360. Well muscled, and built to be a fighter.

Primary Ability: Crystallization - Magic - Can generate and shape physical crystals. Once generated, crystals have a mass and density that match whatever form Sage chose to emulate, though are significantly stronger, than their respective crystals. The physical crystals are extremely durable, and can withstand serious blows, including most guns (While not impervious, most physical attacks will do little to nothing against the armor, once you get through it though Sage's body is basically human (Just about twice as dense as it should be). Sage has generated crystals directly layered onto their bones in the past, but this is extremely painful, and is a last ditch attempt to save their life. This also means that the edges of Sage's blades are much sharper than they appear, their bludgeons are much heavier on first glance, and so on. Can create very fine objects (such as lock-picks, or micro tweezers) moving parts are beyond Sage, at least for now (Could not create a gun, or a crossbow, or a bow (Crystal doesn't like to bend after all) or other similar machines). Sage is also capable of generating ice crystals with this power, but rarely does so as they are generally just straight up weaker than the stone versions (Usually do to the whole melting thing, or that they conduct electricity, ETC) Finally on generation Sage can create crystals up to 150F or as low as 0F. Finally, with the use of large amounts of her reserves, Sage can make a crystal permanent, though the largest she can currently manage eve with her inhuman stamina is still a normal sized dagger (Not knife, dagger).

Other Abilities: Enhanced Physicality - Stamina, Strength, Agility, Reaction Time, Dexterity, all of it has been enhanced. Stamina and Strength are both actually superhuman (Sage need's about 1/2 much rest as a human, and recovers from fatigue twice as quickly), though at low levels (Sage’s current max feat sits at 2400lbs benched) Their Agility and Dexterity are both finely honed, and are at professional athlete levels with little training. Basically everything not mentioned can be assumed to be about twice human average (or 50% better if twice would take it above human limits).

Ageless - Sage doesn't age, simple as that (And they are immune to all aging effects unless this power is cancelled out beforehand). There’s is an exception, Sage can age themselves if they so choose.

Mild Body Transformation- Magic - Can alter their sex, and some basics about build (Hair, Bone Structure, Colors, ETC), but not height, or weight. They also can’t alter muscle mass, and while they can replace scar tissue created from normal attacks, magical injuries still scar, and reamined scarred as per normal.

Power Drawbacks: Crystallization - The crystals react to energy (Fire, Sound, Light, Electricity, Direct Magic, ETC) as the normal version of the crystal would (Particularly vulnerable to rapid sequential heating and cooling). Furthermore, Sage has no control over the crystals from a distance, once generated, her crystals are inert. Once Sage stops touching her crystals, a timer starts, during which the crystals begin degrading, returning to energy if you will. All crystals, no matter how strong or weak, have the same timer. Over the course of an hour they breakdown, weakening, and fade away. Touching the crystals again in that hour restarts the timer, but does not reset the damage done to them without further use of the power.

Diet - Sage needs twice as much food and water as a human does to stay healthy, though they starve/dehydrate at the normal human rate. Under normal circumstances this isn't a major drawback, but long operations or capture could leave Sage vulnerable. Furthermore, Sage has a intense craving for, and consumes copious amounts of sugar.

PTSD - Sage’s creation has left her with PTSD, and a deep distrust of anything medical, obvious forms of magic (namely energy magic, such as light or darkness mages). There are other symptoms, including acute nightmares, but they are rarely as obvious as placing Sage around the sources of their anxiety. This does give Sage a degree of psychic vulnerability, and a stress related magic vulnerability.

Equipment: Most of Sage’s equipment is generated on the fly as needed, especially armor. On the other hand, she keeps a locksmiths kit around.
DETAILS

Nationality: Morrocan/Irish/Canadian
Hometown: Dublin/Quebec City/Compound G
Sexuality: Bisexual

Biggest Flaw: Her PTSD. Against the right opponent it can freeze her up, or make her panic.
Main Skills: Highly skilled in hand to hand and melee combat, with a particular emphasis on blades. Also highly skilled with throwing weapons, favoring javelins. Can pick locks, sneak, hotwire cars (Though Sage has no clue how to drive/pilot anything), and so forth. Has no gun knowledge, certain other members of the academy have banned Sage from touching guns till they believe she can handle them, including both her sisters (relation not publicly known).Speaks English, French, Spanish, Irish, and Arabic.

Personality: Sage is, contrary to her appearance, a fairly quiet, and introverted person. While they have few issues talking with others, they are closed off, and rarely open up to them. Once you earn Sage’s trust, a hard fought battle, she is quite friendly and open with you, and exceedingly loyal, treating you as they do their family.

Biography: Sage Kearney did not always exist. In fact, five years ago, she didn’t exist at all. Instead they were Sage Knight (Canada), and Sean Kearney (Ireland). Knight was combative, violent, and in and out of juvie for most of her life. Sean meanwhile was much...quieter about his dealings, dealing in drugs, quiet theft, and the like, right up till he got caught. Through one means or another, both Sean and Knight ended up in Morocco, after being sold to Fez International Security (F.I.S, usually pronounced Fizz by it’s employees) (Once the Order of the New Gods, has reorganized into a PMC that has plenty of...behind the scenes dealings, including metahuman production and trade).

Moved from compound to compound, and subjected to test after test, eventually Sean and Knight were settled into compound G, now fifteen, to be combined using magic, genetic manipulation, into what is now Sage Kearney. The originals were destroyed, and a new being was created in their stead. Trained in various skills, including combat (Sage always managed to find someway to skip firearm training), and tactics, alongside a finished high school level education, and extensive attempts at brainwashing (they failed, mostly). Sage Kearey was a prisoner of F.I.S for three years before finally escaping alongside two other experiments named Carolina and Ashura. Wandering the desert, and than cities of Morocco, eventually the trio ended up crossing into Spain, where they spent most of their time before being picked up by Union of Villains, before being shipped off to Phoenix Academy.

PHOENIX ACADEMY: SECTION B APPLICATION

VITALS

Name:Carolina Steiner
Species: Homo Sapiens Arcanus (An Arcanum for those that know, mostly just passes as human)
Nickname/Alias: 7-G1-001, Nerve
Appearance:
Image
Image

Gender: Female
Age: 18
Build: 5’10”, 152lbs

Primary Ability: Telepathy - Magic - Carolina can read minds, simple as that. She can dig into minds, read surface thoughts, collect memories, so on and so forth. However, if she has not been allowed in, even if the person in question does not know she is, she must fight against their mental defenses to get in. In order to facilitate this, she has expanded her telepathy into what she calls a “mind spike”. A Mind Spike is her focusing all here energy on one person’s mind, and flooding it with energy, causing over time pain, confusion, hallucinations, unconsciousness, and eventually, death. While the time varies from person to person, she needs five minutes uninterrupted minimum to kill someone, and some people have taken as long as ten. As a secondary extension of this power, Carolina can create minor illusions in targets minds, up to three people at once. Mostly these extend to altering what they’re already receiving rather than creating anything, but at times she has managed the creation of small effects, such as images of glowing, distracting flying creature (she has a taste for butterflies when doing this)

Other Abilities: Enhanced Physicality - Stamina, Strength, Agility, Reaction Time, Dexterity, all of it has been enhanced. While her abilities here aren’t as enhanced as either of her sisters, they still show enhancement. Her physical strength maxes around 400lbs bench, while her stamina is slightly worse than Sage’s, but still superhuman. Basically, the only thing here that’s superhuman is her stamina, the rest is just moderately well trained with room for improvement.

Ageless - Carolina doesn't age, simple as that (And they are immune to all aging effects unless this power is cancelled out beforehand). There’s is an exception, Carolina can age herself if they so choose.

Mild Body Transformation - Can alter their sex, and some basics about build (Hair, Bone Structure, Colors, ETC), but not height, or weight. They also can’t alter muscle mass, and while they can replace scar tissue created from normal attacks, magical injuries still scar, and reamined scarred as per normal.
Power Drawbacks: Telepathy - Anything other than reading or transmitting thoughts is tiring, draining Carolina. Furthermore, she struggles to touch more than five or six minds at a time, and two of these slots are almost always occupied by Sage and Ashura. Finally, her more recent abilities, the mind spike and minor illusions, are limited to one person at a time, and being mental effects, cannot touch mindless beings.

Diet - Carolina needs twice as much food and water as a human does to stay healthy, though they starve/dehydrate at the normal human rate. Under normal circumstances this isn't a major drawback, but long operations or capture could leave Carolina vulnerable. Thankfully Carolina does not share the….odd cravings of her sisters.

PTSD - While not as bad as her sister Sage’s, Carolina does share her anxiety, insomnia, and acute nightmares. Isolation, and prolonged darkness tend to be what causes Carolina extra anxiety, unlike Sage’s medical and magic phobias.

Equipment: Prefers a M16A4 in missions, but also uses (though obviously doesn’t carry all at once) an MP5, P90, M39 Enhanced Marksman Rifle, and generally prefers .45 pistols. Also carries a ruby dagger, far sharper and stronger than it should be.

DETAILS

Nationality: Mexican/German/Moroccan
Hometown: Cancun, Berlin, Compound G
Sexuality: Bisexual

Biggest Flaw: Like Sage, Carolina has potentially crippling PTSD, leaving her weak (though not defenseless) to psychic attacks. It is however her attachment to her family that has proven a constant source of problems, as Carolina is more than willing to throw away her life to save Ashura or Sage’s.

Main Skills: Carolina is not as well trained in direct combat as Sage, but actually knows her way around a gun. She also knows something of computers (when working alongside Sage, it was Carolina’s job to deal with electronic security), and even more about basic battle strategies and tactics. That said, she is still passable in hand-to-hand, and carries a dagger on missions for use. Speaks English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Swahili, German, and Irish.

Personality: Isolationist, quiet, and introverted, uncomfortable around large groups of people. Rarely ever speaks, and has a soft, quiet voice unbefitting the ruthless killer lurking beneath the surface. Much colder than her sisters,

Biography:
Originally Carolina Rodriguez, and Alex Steiner. Carolina Rodriguez grew up under the thumb of the Beltrán-Leyva Cartel, raised as a member from birth. From a young age, she ran drugs, and pretty much stuck to it. That was, until her parents got themselves into debt, and she was sold to Fez International Security to pay off their debts. Alex meanwhile was a typical german kid, well behaved, smart, well educated, and managed to stumble himself straight into a op gone bad. F.I.S took the only known witness, Ales, back with them. After test after test after test, Rodriguez and Alex were assigned to compound G, where they became the first creation of the compound hidden in the desert.

This is the same place where Sage (created with the same ritual) and Ashura (A variant of the same ritual adding arachnid DNA instead of a second human). Carolina’s sister and….sometimes sister, sometimes brother. While this connection still isn’t well known (they look nothing alike after all), they would eventually, after years of training, failed brainwashing, and endless testing, escape. While Sage and Ashura provided the muscle, so to speak, Carolina...she was the brains. She led them to Spain, was the one that ensured the Phoenix Academy.

Throughout of all it, the three made a promise. That whatever comes, they would still be family. They hid their connections at the Academy, pretending to simply be aquatinences to those that did not already know them, if there were any there. When possible, Carolina keeps them connected, they are never truly alone, and are kept up to date on...most of what each other do.

PHOENIX ACADEMY: SECTION B APPLICATION

VITALS

Name: Ashura Mburu
Species: Home Sapeins Arcanus (An Arcanum for those that know, mostly just passes as (heavily mutated) human)
Nickname/Alias: 7-G2-003, Ananasa
Appearance:
Image

Gender: Female
Age: 19
Build: Fairly lithe, built for gymnastics and acrobatics. Stands 6’0”, and weighs 168 lbs.

Primary Ability: Arthropod Control - Magic - Ashura can control arthropods, namely insects and arachnids (Crabs and the like are more complex, and harder to control, limiting her to two or three at a time). Hundreds of individuals, or thousands if they already have a social set up (Ants, Bees, Wasps, Termites, ETC) can be brought under her control. Ashura can enlarge, and strengthen arthropods, though this ability is much more limited in numbers than her ability to control them. Namely, it only applies to insects or arachnids to any noticeable degree. As it stands, she can double the size of around 20 insects/arachnids, triple around 10, quadruple 5, or quintuple one. These limits apply to both a temporary and a permanent increase, but in the case of the permanency, she cannot create any more permanents till the previous one dies, freeing it up. Currently, she has quintupled the size of a Goliath Birdeater (Mdogo) (55 Inch leg span, 23.5 inch body length, 7.5 inch fangs, weighs around fifteen pounds) and can create no more permanents until this one dies. This enhancement also increases intelligence, and life span, though these are harder to pin down exacts (Mdogo is about three years old and still going strong, and seems to be about as smart as a house cat, maybe a little less). Finally, while venom potency is increased, it's by around 15-50% depending on if it's more acidic (Like Bee venom, gets the 50%) or uses Alkali (Like wasps, 25).

Other Abilities: Enhanced Physiology - Much liker her sisters, Ashura is enhanced across the board, though her stamina is not superhuman, instead she has low level agility and dexterity at superhuman levels (Strength limit, 540 lbs). Instead, she can produce a few….different substances, from either her pores or saliva glands. The primary is a liquid that upon touching oxygen, reacts to become silk. By controlling the amount she secrets, she can create three different versions. One, by doing so slowly, creates thin, fragile, wispy threads she can coat an area in, allowing her to sense vibrations through (she is part spider). Second by secreting the liquid quickly, she can create thicker, less sticky, but stronger threads, mostly used to weave with, but can be used to create relatively strong restraints in the field. Finally, but excreting everything she can at once, she can create a shell around herself that she can dissolve, which is about as tough as IIIA body armor (so not very tough, but is handy in emergencies). Secondarily she can create what she has take to calling “Royal Jelly”, while much more time and resource demanding, can create a permanent bond with insects. Insects fed this jelly will never willingly hurt Ashura, and will defend her if needed. If given across generations (tested on Culex pipiens) the insects will slowly grow in size and intelligence (size doubles after about twenty generations (just about a year for Culex pipiens) and slows from there). Finally, and obviously, Ashura did at one point produce venom, but the glands were removed, and take at least a year to regrow (it’s only been four months since they were last removed, sold for money) without outside help. Ashura produces a paralytic that must be administered through her saliva, however she wants to do that. Obviously, she also has the capability of naturally using all six arms at the same time, and has nearly superhuman hand eye coordination to manage them all. She still only needs half as much sleep as a human, but otherwise is just above average in terms of endurance. While she does have the ability to to force fine, sticky hairs out of her hands and feet, making her grip stronger, they are too weak to allow her to walk on walls or ceilings, though ripping things from any of her hands proves extra problematic

Ageless - Ashura doesn't age, simple as that (And they are immune to all aging effects unless this power is cancelled out beforehand). There’s is an exception, Ashura can age herself if they so choose.

Power Drawbacks: Arthropod Control - While control itself isn’t all that tiring, enhancing any of them is, even temporarily. Furthermore, as she can’t actually sense or distinguish them with anything other than her own knowledge and sight, she has little control over what shows up, unless she wants to keep summoning everything and cherry pick.

Physical Enhancements - Her spider like attributes also make her hard to rouse, preferring nocturnal and dark environments. She is also sensitive to the cold, becoming lethargic, and losing energy fast (she will only die from colds that would kill a human, but cold in general bothers her). In cold environments, she also has trouble using most of her powers, only her venom being guaranteed to work if she has the glands intact.

Diet - Ashura needs twice as much food and water as a human does to stay healthy, though they starve/dehydrate at the normal human rate. Under normal circumstances this isn't a major drawback, but long operations or capture could leave Ashura vulnerable. On top of all this, her production of Royal Jelly, Silk, or Venom (once regained) requires additional nutrients, and Ashura has a taste for fried insects (Chocolate covered ants are her favorite snack, picked up as a delicacy in Spain). This taste for insects is indulged so she doesn’t indulge her other craving, for human blood.

PTSD - While not nearly as bad as her two sisters, even Ashura has her problems from what happened to her. For her, her two key phobias are of water (if she can’t touch the bottom, she has a problem) and tight spaces (she has claustrophobia from her imprisonment).

Equipment: Ashura typically tailors her equipment to the mission, but has her preference for the AK series, and the SVD. Also Mdogo, her enhanced Goliath Birdeater.
DETAILS

Nationality: Kenyan/Morocco
Hometown: Mutomo/Compound G
Sexuality: Bi

Biggest Flaw: Beyond her being a freak of nature that almost everyone avoids, sensitive to cold, and a craving for human blood? Her PTSD, like her sisters. It proves a constant vulnerability, especially against psychic attacks.
Main Skills: While capable in hand to hand combat, and ranged combat, Ashura was a simple farmer before her abduction, and has built upon this knowledge by studying entomology and arachnology to better identify, breed, control, and generally use her small friends. She also has some knowledge of venoms, and general stealth techniques. Speaks English, Spanish, Arabic, and Swahili. She also knows how to weave, and sew, making her own clothes out of her silk these days.

Personality: Curious, extroverted, and outgoing. Ashura is, despite all appearances, a social person that likes having people around her. She also has a vested interest in keeping her family safe, though she has relented to pretending they aren’t family for the time being. Despite her (literal) blood thirst, she likes people, and wants as many friends and allies as she can get, and will tear apart anyone that threatens the ones she has.

Biography: Ashura was a poor farm girl in Kenya. Lost her mother to malaria at three, and her father to cancer at thirteen. From there, she ran the farm as long as she could, eeking out a living for herself, but slowly she fell into debt. Eventually, it came time for that debt to be collected. When she couldn’t pay, she was abducted, and sold to F.I.S., who were originally planning to just use her as another body in their ranks, something she wasn’t entirely opposed to. At fifteen, she began the rigorous physical, mental, and genetic tests that F.I.S puts all potential members through, and was eventually shipped out to compound G.

There, they turned her into what she is today, a arachnoid killer with a thirst for blood. Unfortunately, she proved difficult to tame, and with the help of two of her siblings, and at the cost of a dozen guards, and four other siblings, Ashura escaped. She wandered the desert with her newfound family, surviving until Carolina secured them passage into Spain. From there, her thirst for blood proved now end of trouble, with close to a dozen partially eaten bodies allowing authorities to always be only one step behind the trio. That was, till they figured out eating insects allowed Ashura to control her thirst. Not long after that revelation, Carolina secured them entry into Phoenix Academy, and now Ashura has to pretend her family isn’t family. Proving to be one of the odder looking members, if not the oddest, she has had a hard time making allies, and friends, two things sorely needed in a world such as this.

When we lose one we love, our bitterest tears are called forth by the memory of hours when we loved not enough. - Maurice Maeterlinck

There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love. - Washington Irving

It is easy to hate and it is difficult to love. This is how the whole scheme of things works. All good things are difficult to achieve; and bad things are very easy to get. - Confucius
