Make Bigtopia Great Again!

I have returned to NS after a break of many years, and I'm considering revitalizing my region. It's been neglected for a long time and is a shadow of it's former glory days. I don't want to begin recruitment campaigns until I know what I'm offering to people.

I could use some creative input on what direction we should take. What would be interesting, fun, and unique?

Right now our identity is not super clear, but we seem to be very casual and laid back, probably open to a little RP and IC banter. Personally, I'd like to do contests like fanfic and stuff. Also I'm quite enjoying the NS forums, so perhaps we can do something with that (I've seen some other regions have their own threads).

I'm not interested in the invader/defender metagame. We did that years ago, and it seems like a huge waste of time.

I just feel like I'm having a hard time coming up with good ideas. Let me know what you think!

Bigtopia comes up a lot in Issues. Maybe you could search through the issues to find all the ones that relate to Bigtopia. That could give you ideas of what the character of the region should be. It could also give you subjects to start RPs on, and themes for polls.

Bigtopia: There are many Bigtopian immigrants in your country, who face all manner of discrimination from your country as well as Tasmania, Lilliputia, and East Lebatuck, discrimination which they frequently protest. One prominent Bigtopian, Nicholas Condor, called for the extermination of your people. Bigtopia has cheaper labor than your country, leading to outsourcing from your country to theirs. Bigtopia had a dictatorial regime led by the mass-murdering "Butcher of Bigtopia", but this regime was overthrown by revolutionaries. Bigtopia harbors anti-government activists from your country, leading to military tensions. The nation also shares a major river with you, and are downstream from your nation.
Issue #860 reveals that your nation has in fact gone to war with Bigtopia, at one point, and the effect lines in 377.1 and 358.3 also seem to suggest that you may presently be at war with them. According to issue #1000, three of the five speakers claim that Bigtopia is your most trusted friend and ally, although speakers 4 and 5 seem to say otherwise.

North Bigtopia: North Bigtopia and Maxtopia are historic enemies, leading to clashes between Maxtopian and Bigtopian immigrants. They eventually try to make peace in issue #877.
Outer Bigtopia: Spies on your country with an agent named "Solo".

Make something unique, whether it be a dynamic RP, or some off-site thing get something that makes you stand out.

I'm not all that with region creation and all it's other goodies. But a start would be to modernized it, like making a discord etc... because RMB isn't the trend anymore

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'm still open to them if anyone else wants to jump into this conversation.

I think having regular contests would be fun. We could do some that relate to NS (factbook entry, flags, or even NS stats) as well as others; like writing short stories, submitting flags, answering questions/promps, etc. I'd like to come up with some rewards for winning. One idea is to award medals that can be displayed in the nation's FB entry. Probably one of the best rewards I could offer would be along the lines of writing some IC fanfic involving the winner or something else for them.
