The Scholar's expedition to the north-east is quite successful, though solitary, having spent many weeks away from any human contact in the wilderness. When he returns though he returns with his hand-cart heaped high with fractured pieces of shimmerstone, hewn chunks of hematite, and many shards of galena. The last ore seems softer than the other two, but all gave way under the assault of his bronze pickaxe, and he managed to bear nearly double what another man might have carried with the aid of his contraption. The Hvasskyn are suitably impressed when he presented his bounty before the tribe, and all but the scout marveled at the translucent shimmerstone, whose prismatic hues seemed to drink in the light of the tribe's fire and throw it back broken in a layer of pure color.
