RTC News is the Federal Republic of Carloso's publicly funded news service, operating since its foundation on the 31 December 1959. Our services are offered in English and Spanish; the first and second official languages of Carloso respectively, but our content is available across the world. RTC News is a 24/7 news services, with offices located in almost every city in Ireland and a large, dedicated staff who strive to deliver balanced, objective journalism. Outside of Carloso, we have offices and news corespondents located in many of the world's major countries. As we are a public body, we are financed primarily through advertising, our own investments and funding given to us directly from the government. As of 2018, Carloso does not have a television licence fee.

A Brief History — Despite its population, Carloso was introduced to television relatively late when compared to most nations. Under the Broadcasting Act 1959, Radio, Television of Carloso (RTC); the acronym is the same for the Spanish version (Radio, Televisión de Cárloso), the Federal Republic of Carloso was to have its first public broadcaster starting just before midnight on New Year's Eve, 1959. Millions of new televisions were bought in anticipation for the technological revolution that was to come. At 23:30, the letters 'RTC' flashed up for the first time and President de Houérou, in full military regalia, addressed the nation. RTC News began airing the very next day, taking the form of a thirty minute news programme at one minute past six in the evening, just before the station stopped broadcasting at seven.

The race for the leadership of the National Salvation party heated up again today as Minister for Internal Affairs Estebán Santander announced his intention to campaign for the position at a press conference in Secano. Former President and current Deputy President George Spalding announced his candidacy early last week. This comes after President Tobón announced his plans to retire from the party leadership in November next year, ahead of the general election in 2020. Among the international reactions, Nifonese Shogun Maki Kojiro released a statement expressing his wish that "the future Carlosian government uphold the virtues of national sovereignty and common dedication to fight against hostile forces of globalism, Marxism and liberalism". More on this at one minute past six.

The Law Society of Carloso has voted overwhelmingly to remain neutral in the upcoming referendum on the proposed Twenty-eighth Amendment of the Constitution of Carloso. The amendment, if passed, would result in Christianity becoming the country's state religion. An InfoReal poll commissioned by RTC News and published yesterday suggests a slight lead for the Yes side of 40% against No at 37%. National Salvation is currently the only party in the Parliament endorsing a Yes vote, while all others have expressed their intentions to campaign for a No vote on the amendment. The referendum is scheduled to take place on 10 November 2018. The President of the Law Society, Mr Trystan Harris, expressed the view that the vote would be a "matter of conscience for people to decide on for themselves".

The RTC Weather Service has issued a red warning for the Cadena Islands ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Eiros. The storm, which has now strengthened into a Category 4 weather system, is not expected to make landfall in mainland Carloso and will weaken as it moves into cooler waters. Hurricane Eiros is the fifth tropical storm system to form in the Musgorocian Ocean this year. Estebán Santander has directed local authorities to evacuate residents to shelter before the storm arrives, warning that Hurricane Eiros "poses a serious danger to everyone on the islands".

An independent inquiry is expected to begin into an anonymous tip given to the National Intelligence Service that several Carlosian political parties are being funded illegally by undisclosed foreign entities. The individual, who cannot be named for legal reasons, alleges that a number of political organisations have taken in clandestine foreign donations, without notifying the relevant authorities. A spokesperson for the NIS refused to confirm what parties were connected with the investigation, though stated that the committee would publish its findings publicly by the end of October.

Concerns have been raised after reports emerged that a mass brawl took place in Moran's pub in Madrigal, often frequented by Members of Parliament. Favourite for the leadership of the National Salvation party, Estebán Satander, was reported to have been involved. A group of unidentified individuals suddenly attacked Mr Santander, who managed to fend them off. Several people intervened in the attempted assault, causing the situation to quickly devolve into a mass brawl. Several people were injured in the fight, though none seriously. President Tobón was not in the pub at the time. The Madrigal Metropolitan Police Service were called to the scene, though no arrests were made.

Polls open on state religion referendum

Polling stations across Carloso have opened on a referendum on the proposed Twenty-eighth Amendment of the Constitution of Carloso. If approved, the amendment will insert the line "Christianity shall be the religion of the State" into Section 2 of Article 20 of the Constitution, effectively establishing Christianity as the Federal Republic's state religion. Stations stations opened at 07:00 this morning and will close at 22:00 in every constituency. Residents on the Cadena Islands have already voted on the proposal, casting their ballots a day early due to concerns about bad weather. The heated campaign has split public opinion down the middle, with most opinion polls indicating that the result could go either way. This is seen by many as a referendum on National Salvation's performance over the last seven years in government, especially that of President Cárlos Tobón. Turnout has been reported as good across the country, particularly in more rural areas. President Tobón and his wife Nicolasa cast their ballots in New Belfast this morning, while Minister for Internal Affairs Estebán Santander voted in Haxton.

Out of the six parties in Parliament, National Salvation is the only one backing a Yes vote, while the Conservatives, Democrats, Socialist Republicans and Communists are backing a No vote. The Synarchist Union is also backing a No vote on the basis that Catholicism should be the state religion of Carloso. Catholic Archbishop Ezequiel Semprún expressed his approval for a Yes vote, though various other Christian dominations and minority religions have encouraged a No vote. While a successful Yes vote would be a major victory for National Salvation, a No vote might spell bad news for the party in the 2020 general election. RTC News, in partnership with InfoReal, will have an exit poll out 22:00 when stations close and should give a rough indication of the result. The Madrigal Times and Roldán Analytics will also have a poll out at the same time. A moratorium on coverage of the referendum; for the first time including social media, was put into place at 23:00 last night and will last until polls close.

Tobón declares victory as state religion amendment set to pass

President Tobón has declared victory for the Yes side in the state religion referendum as it looks like the proposal to insert the Twenty-eighth Amendment into the Constitution of Carloso is set to pass by a large majority. Addressing a large crowd of supporters alongside fellow MPs and family in his home constituency of New Belfast, Tobón declared that "the Carlosian people have declared that they are not afraid to call themselves Christian. It is our identity, the fabric of our civilisation. The nation will continue to wade against the flailing tide of international finance and globalism that seeks to destroy our heritage. Nothing can take this away from us." Shortly afterwards, Minister for Internal Affairs Estebán Santander MP; who is a favourite to succeed Tobón as leader of the National Salvation party, addressed another large gathering of supporters in Ebon. Backers of a No vote have expressed disappointment at the apparent result, with Democratic Party leader Eric O'Neill regarding it as "a dark day in Carlosian politics." A press release from the office of Archbishop Ezequiel Semprún of Madrigal indicated that the Archbishop was "pleased" with the result.

Results have been received from 171 of the 286 constituencies so far, with figures largely in line with the exit polls published last night when voting stations closed across the country. As of 18:00, Yes leads on 57.05% with No on 42.95%. Issues with fax machines in some areas have delayed the return of results to the chief reporting officer in Madrigal, though it is expected that all constituencies will have reported their results by midnight tonight. An InfoReal/RTC News poll with a sample of 6,000 indicated that the referendum would pass by a 60/40 margin, significantly more than was expected by opinion polls in the run-up to the referendum. Another poll by Roldán Analytics/Madrigal Times with a sample size of 4,500 indicated a similar result in favour of Yes by a 58/42 margin. While it was widely indicated by polls early in the campaign that Yes would win, it looked like its lead had been eroded considerably in the closing weeks and that there was even a chance that No would scrap a victory. This speculation, however, was quickly dashed as the result became clear when ballot boxes were opened.

Tobón defends Edomite response to LGBT demonstrations but urges 'restraint'

Following widespread international condemnation of the response of Edomite authorities to so-called LGBT demonstrations in the city of Fineberg; which have left dozens dead and many seriously injured, President Tobón has come out in defence of the actions of the City Militia and local police forces, while simultaneously calling for future 'restraint'. Domestic media outlets reported that the various law enforcement units used metal nets dropped from helicopters to immobilise protesters, while anti-tank missiles, autocannon fire and grenade launchers were apparently used to dislodge demonstrators who sought shelter in nearby buildings, with hundreds more claiming asylum in nearby embassies. Earlier, authorities had used water cannons on an event near the Betharan Palace in Fineberg, which had been attended by numerous well known pop stars, comedians and politicians. It is understood that numerous countries concerned with the situation have granted access to their diplomatic missions in New Edom, including Mcnernia and Thermodolia, to fleeing protesters.

In a press release that was later relayed to Setsuzoku, President Tobón stated that "while violence must always be used as a last resort in such situations, and the right to free and open expression and protest in public constitutionally enshrined", he went on to say that "we must always remain vigilant and tackle the anti-nationalist, communistic sentiment that is being fermented around the globe in the guise of progressivism and social justice". He went on to describe the demonstrations as "well coordinated paramilitary efforts by internationalist forces". When asked to clarify if the Carlosian embassy in Fineberg would be open to those seeking asylum, a spokesperson clarified that the Carlosian embassy was not located near enough to the site of the demonstrations and that no individuals had so-far requested entry. The spokesperson went to say further that the Carlosian embassy would not be admitting any individuals and that they would turn over any persons of interest to the Edomite authorities immediately.

Many have drawn similarities between this incident and the incident which occurred in Oceanica in 2017, where far-left rioters unsuccessfully attacked the Nifonese community of Little Kiyosu in response to the election of President Stanley Bowden. The Nifonese residents responded by assaulting the demonstrator's camp at night with armoured bulldozers and flamethrowers, killing dozens of people and sparking condemnation from many. The violence ultimately resulted in an armed intervention by SACTO-aligned private military corporations. Last year, the National Intelligence Service Foreign Office released a report warning that the "perceived 'oppression' felt as a result of measured responses to LGBT extremism" were being used as a recruiting tool by cells aligned with Homofront and similar terrorist organisations.

The Department of External Affairs is expected to shortly issue a cautionary travel warning to Carlosians currently in New Edom or planning to go there in the near future.
