Royal Palace, Yggdrasilia, Grand Duchy of Isengar, Danceria, Arda
0908hrs

The sun already is high above the picturesque skies, peering in the valley between the Misty and White mountains. A vast, old metropolis of brick and steel reflected the light almost hiding the crowds of almost three million inhabitants busy with their every day affairs. Shops call out and revel in the revenue of throngs of tourists, oblivious to the arrival of the aristocratic elite for a magnificent banquet. To be among them is to live in hopeful times. How you will enjoy this banquet, or not, is up to you...

Palace of the White Throne, Yggdrasilia, Grand Duchy of Isengar, Danceria, Arda
1530 hrs

The last touches of the banquet were underway, with many of the crowned heads of the world travelling to the bustling old metropolis for the summit. Fine wines and foods were prepared, music was practiced, and many of the Old, New, and Gilded Bloods of Danceria were present as well, chittering excitedly to themselves. Upon the pale-ivory throne seated at the head of the dining table, the red-haired king of Danceria had a rather bemused and content smile on his face. “She’s coming here…” his good friend, and Lord Chancellor would remark, having both been in love and recently married. “But she might not remember you, or...well, want that.” “I know Snow.” His Majesty would agree. “But at least I could hear it from her firsthand. Besides, you’ve got my back.” The yellow haired Chancellor would grin and playfully punch the King in the shoulder “You backed me up when I was dating Serah, if it works out, I’m with you a-hundred percent. If it don’t...” he shrugged “I know a few good bars still.” This got a laugh out of the King, “Hopefully it doesn’t fail that badly. But thanks, really.”

The doors of the palace opened to the gentle sound of strings, as the orchestra welcomed the guests to the convocation of crowns.

Palace of the White Throne, Yggdrasilia, Danceria.
Amongst the first foreigners to arrive was the four people strong Kyrenaian Delegation.
And what a sight they made, dressed in Black Lounge Suit - it was before five o'clock, after all, and this event was not formal enough to bust out the day's White Tie Equivalent of Morning Dress. Black Lounge Suit was uncomfortable enough anyway, if one asked the youngest member of the group.
At eighteen years, Prince Karim ibn-Fadi was a good looking young man, white hair in a slightly spiky mane, golden eyes looking out of a bright, if a bit melancholic face, the dark skin typical for Kyrenaians. He wore, appropriately, grey striped formal trousers, a midnight blue lounge jacket of conventional length and bowtie, as well as a waistcoat under the jacket. He felt silly, as if he was playing dress-up with his father's clothes, but here he was...
And if one asked him, he was attending with the most beautiful woman the world had ever seen, Princess Fara bint-Dardan. It was an open secret in Kyrenaia, that Karim Risha, when he wrote about beauty and love, thought of her, unsurprisingly, as Karim Risha was Prince Karim's Nom de Plume. And she deserved every word.
At 28, she was single, deep, ruby-red eyes looking out of a beautiful face, that even masters with chisel and paintbrush could not replicate, her blonde hair short. She had a very womanly figure, but one saw her strength underneath, the strength of a professional swimmer, which gave her slim, strong arms. She wore a long dress, not exactly a ball gown, but not a cocktail dress either, in black, with a deep, plunging neckline and side slits to ease up movement, as well as a closed back. She moved elegantly, as if she had inherited the skills of her absent pet, the Kyrenaian Caracal Kalak. Further attention was drawn away from her eyes to her neckline by a singular piece of jewelry, a rose pendant, the petals made out of ruby, but Karim had his eyes on her eyes, the most striking feature about her, if one asked him.
In front of them was the other pair, an old man with a long beard, dressed in a suit very similar to his, blue eyes looking at the world with a bit of impishness, which would disappear when the situation demanded it. Grand Vizier Mahmut al-Zahir walked on a cane, a testament to his old age, and he walked slow, arm linked with the final member of the delegation.
Said person was Karim's oldest sibling, Princess Dschamilla bint-Fadi. Tight and formal, her dress far more conservative, her long, white hair almost bordering silver in colour, her golden eyes cold - Karim knew of times, passed into the legends of mankind, when these eyes had been warm and tender, now they were more steel then the side of a tank. She led the Grand Vizier into the ball room.
The strings went appreciated, but that was not the reason why they were here, primarily.
He smiled as he saw the young man at the end of the table, bowing his head - not as deeply as the rest of the delegation, but he did. "Greetings to you, Aceus Elurín, King of Danceria.", he asked with a smile and rose, "Praise be to the Lioness for seeing to your safety and for allowing us to come here! May Her Gaze always be favourable towards Danceria and may the Winds bring a cooling breeze and water. We bring good tidings and greetings of the Sultana of Kyrenaia."
He greeted him very formal and politely.
"Now..." There was a bit of a shrewd old man in his voice, all three could hear that. "...I believe, that your gaze found someone else as well."

The Grand Duke was always one for careful planning. He had made sure he wouldn't be late, and look his best. He even managed to get his cough under control. "Knessian Cough" it is called. Due to the large amount of air pollutants throught the country, Knessians tended to get it by the age of 30. It was a constant, raspy cough, but the Duke had been lucky. Nobility tended to live farther away from the factories than most, so their coughs were merely a few fits a day, instead of on the hour. Plus, nobility tended to live past the age of 40.

He had been briefed on this nation, but he sorely lacked much information. Sure, he knew he wouldn't offend anyone, but other than that, his knowledge was limited to a 2-page memorandum prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He did nite is was quite nice on the trip through the city. He wondered if the food was just as pleasant.

He had opted to make a show that night, by wearing his full dress uniform, with accompanying saber. The only thing he left was the Ducal Coronet, but that was far too valuable for use outside of only the most official events, and most certainly should NEVER go abroad. Instead, he opted to go without a hat. After all, this would be inside. He had ordered his servants to meticulously polish every button, medal, and boot. The Duke was proud of his dress uniform, identical to his high-ranking generals. He always enjoyed the company of the military, despite not serving himself.

The Grand Duke was optimistic about this. He was told there would be eligible young noblewoman. He was, to be honest, quite desperate. He needed issue, otherwise the realm would have no heir. Of course, it would pass to Newman, the appointed emergency successor, but he didn't want to be the one Duke in the country's 1,500 year existence to fail to keep the lineage going. That would be embarrassing. Now, he decided to make sure to at least try to find some woman to correspond with before he got distracted.

As he entered, he scanned the room to identify who is important. He noticed the guests in front of him introduce themselves, and after they did, he stepped forward. He looked at the king, and said, "My fellow lord of lords, it is an honor to meet you.", he said, bowing, "I am Grand Duke Herman the thirteenth of Knessniet. I trust you have prepared quite the event, and I cannot wait to enjoy it." He was smiling, he always was entertained by this type of thing.

Hall of the White Throne

Standing to return the bow, his right palm over his heart, he recited. "Beloved Guests." he began. "May the Valar grant you length of days, length of worth, length of wisdom, and length of mirth; long and well may you stay in these halls!" the audience cried out "hear-hear!" as if any would dare throw out an esteemed guest of the High King of Danceria. Though the gossip and chattering would begin as Aceus would approach the Grand Vizier, first to let him sit at his left side. The third most prestigious place at the table, aside from the right (which was reserved for the Emperor of Lotharia, and leader of the Monarchist Treaty Organization), and the head of the table itself. "Dear Vizier, and Princesses and Prince...Fara." Aceus could hardly hold back a beaming smile. "It's been too long! How have things been in the distant land of Kyrenaia? Is the Sultaness in good health?" The burly blond would clear his throat. "Right right, they'll get the bread and salt shortly. Gentleman and Lady," Aceus would address Prince Karim and Princess Dschamilla "This is Lord-Chancellor Snow Villiers, Count of Oerba-Bresha. We were at the Grand Ball in Utica, celebrating the 45th year of Her Majesty the Sultana's ascension." The Lord Chancellor, a bear of a man returned a sunny grin and extended his hand as well. "Pleasure to meet ya."

Bread and salt would be passed around, a ceremonial prelude to the tea and appetizers. Those who partook in the bread and salt were under the protection of the host, and were bound by Old Law to not fight within the halls without permission. The Duke of Knessniet would be seated slightly downwards to the left of Aceus, not out of disrespect, but due to the unfamiliarity of the Knessian in Dancerian territory.

If he was honest, the Grand Vizier was slightly surprised at being seated right next to their host, well aware, that it was a very prestigious position. It was a pleasant surprise, though, as were the polite greetings and introductions.
Before sitting down, the Grand Vizier bowed his head to Villiers, smiling slightly.
"I indeed remember you, Lord-Chancellor. Crown-Prince Ilia spoke highly of you.", he said and remained standing for a moment. "The pleasure is all ours." He let a beat pass. "Please allow me to introduce the rest of my party. First of all, this lovely young lady is my own date, Princess Dschamilla bint-Fadi." The strict Princess nodded politely. Her main job here was to make sure that someone attended to the Grand Vizier when he was overextending himself again. "The young fellow is Prince Karim ibn-Fadi, a promising young man actually on his first trip abroad." Karim bowed his head, blushing lightly. Fara put a hand onto his shoulder, actually the furthest away from the King. "And I believe, that Princess Fara bint-Dardan requires little to no introduction."
He sat down and smiled as Fara replied to Aceus' beaming smile with one of her own. She liked him, but she was not yet sure, how far this went or would go.
Ah, young love..., he thought to himself.
Taking the bread and salt, he nodded politely, well aware of what the gesture meant. There was something similar in Kyrenaia, only involving the tea ceremony, which was almost as holy as this gesture of bread and salt seemed.
"To answer your questions, Young King, the Sultana is well, as is the Sultanate.", he said, meaning 'Young King' as a mark of respect, not as an insult. He as an old man could allow himself that indulgence. There were days, when he even called Razia 'Young Sultana'. "She sends her best regards, compliments and best wishes." He sighed. "Sadly, we recently had a huge loss. Ilkhan Aaron, the Ilkhan of Sarepta, passed away a few months ago, his wisdom already being missed... but, on to brighter topics. How is Danceria? And, more importantly, how are you?"

3:47 pm.

Palace of the White Throne, Isengar, Danceria.

Despite her fondness for banquets like this one, the importance of a political alliance with fellow monarchs, and the urgent need for her (and the Kanamekami as well, whose problems we shall touch upon in a moment or maybe never) to marry someone to continue her lineage, the Suzumikami was not exactly all thrilled to attend this particular banquet.

To be frank, she was in (unusually) low spirits, even as she stepped out of the limousine the eternally busy Yakumokami had thoughtfully arranged for her as soon as she heard of the young kami's impending departure, bedecked in a brightly glittering strapless yellow ballgown that covered both arms down to her wrists and a significant portion of her torso, but which left plenty of her ample bosom and well-toned navel down to her belly button in view for the indulgence of suddenly weakened eyes, courtesy of a slit cutting through the middle of the gown. (Evidently both designer and wearer thought the usually potent mix of winsome, ahem, assets and short stature did not make enough of an impression on potential suitors, especially on the women Kiako wanted to jump into bed with.)

A lack of accompaniment was undoubtedly part of the reason, with various potential companions either being too busy or else politely but firmly backing out in short order. Partly out of desperation she had even thought of coaxing Kijin Gina to join her, but even after more than two years the former Minister of Defense was effectively incommunicado.

The proximate cause of her present distress, however, was surely the disappointing end to her attempt the previous month (at the risk of Indian displeasure) to reestablish the Chamber of Princes, the erstwhile Indian Raj-era royalist body, through a banquet of her own. She had sent out invitations to various heads of the royal and princely houses of south Asia and even prepared Miyasu for a grand welcoming, but only five of the 37 invited princes ever showed up, all of them much impoverished (including the poor rickshaw driver who turned out to be the current occupant of the Mughal throne), and none of them sharing the same grand vision of the monarchist future as she did.

But no matter, Kiako said to herself as she entered the Palace and strode towards the great hall where Aceus Eleurin and his court sat and watched, you don't win with peasants you win with princes, and from what I hear of this Julius he seems he has the drive to make monarchy... ugh, fuck.

Kiako suddenly stopped, images of Donald Dwarf and Hopeshead flooding and overwhelming her for a moment. Breathe in, breathe out. In, out.

Steeling herself while instinctively reaching for the pack of medicinal blunts hidden deep within the folds of her dress, she walked on and into the bright lights, towards the tinkling of glasses and chatter of nobles.

Now, if I could only encourage this Julius to change that fucking name, that MTO bullshit, she said to herself.

Consul Frederick Honorious led his family into the Palace. His wife, the Lady Sofia hanging on his arm. His son and niece following close behind them. The Consul was dressed in his typical conservative fashion, a black tail coat with matching pants, a starched white shirt complete with wing collar. That his silk bow tie was navy and not black, he considered a bold choice. His wife, wore a multicoloured sequin dress, that reminded one of a metallic peacock. The 16 year old Octavian was glad he could pick out his own outfit, and wore a grey double breasted suit, in a modern slim cut. His cousin, the lovely Aquilina, wore a modest velvet dress in dark green, with a silver belt around her waist. It was neither lose nor tight, and reached down to just above her ankles.

The visage of the Consul was one almost of indifference, as he entered the palace. In contrast, Sofia scanned the room, taking it all in and beaming a warm smile. Octavian hung back with the apathy of a teenager, risking giving the impression he didn't want to be here. Still, he scanned the room out of the corner of his eyes, hoping to find someone interesting. Aquilina, stood tall and smiled nervously at all the assembled. The Saarkriskians joined the others as they ate the bread and salt.

"Parks being maintained, Olympics are in a few months..." Aceus smiles. "I am well, just got back from a few diplomatic summits, and I think I've gotten used to ruling." Aceus would nod at the Vizier. "I'm sure with your experience, you know how rough starting out is..."

The Consul and Suzumikami would be seated near the more influential nobles of Danceria, though a few would grumble at the fact that it was these foreigners who would occupy such prestigious places at the dinner table, rather than the kin and supporters of House Elurion. However, a man with long blond hair would be coincidentally seated near the Suzukami, and across from the Consul of Saarkrisken.

"Aratar Almighty...where do I begin...?" Aceus sighed and gave them a succinct sit rep on what Aceus and his cabinet were facing. A remodeling of the Banking system and discussion on privatizing or nationalizing businesses, which in turn lead to the heated debate on a major amendment to the Dancerian Constitution; the anullment of a tricameral system in exchange for a simple, bicameral elective system and the nature and duty of the nobility in a rather libertarian political landscape. This of course no right with it a hydra of other issues, parks, infrastructure, stance on crime, a general sense of glasnost in the education system.

Aceus himself seemed to favor a bicameral system, to thin the beuacracy and to incentivize the nobility to "work rather than to weasel their way to prestige", but this of course was the largest topic on the Dancerian political sphere. However, the Dancerian man was confident with the coming Olympics, Danceria would shine on the international stage. "For the first time in almost half a century, Danceria truly prospers." he concluded. "Betwen my bookkeeping and Snow's oration skills, we make quite the dynamic duo." "You've always had a better head for papers, I'd fall asleep at the desk with the dry documents you've got to deal with." the burly Chancellor would agree, albeit with a teasing tone. "Maybe once this amendment either passes or flops, you might find a girl and settle down." Aceus paused, with a wistful look on his face. "Maybe I can...after all, you managed to get hitched just after you became Chancellor, and with twins on the way!"

When the news of the Lord-Chancellor expecting children sometime soon came, it was Fara, who spoke to him with a smile: "Congratulations, Sir.", she said with a small bow, a gesture repeated by the remaining three. Especially al-Zahir had a wistful smile on his lips. "May those two children become strong, beautiful and as intelligent as their father."
"Besides him, they will have enough role models.", the Grand Vizier said with a smile, nodding towards Aceus, meaning him with a lot of respect. "It sounds to me, that you have your work for the foreseeable future cut out for you, though. I might not be able to lend you effective advice when it comes to parliamentary systems, but Kyrenaia always listens and advises its friends, when they request it, especially when it comes to education and infrastructure." He let a beat pass with a smile. "That of course includes not only nice words, but also deeds." He bowed his head lightly. "I do hope, that you don't mind the presumption of me calling Danceria Kyrenaia's friend, though."
Karim listened and watched with interest. This was quite an educational trip already.

As they took their seats, the Saarkriskian guests greeted their table companions. Consul Frederick attempted small talk with the man he assumed was a surfer sitting across from him. "It sure is nice weather today" he began, picking a topic, he knew to be especially interesting to beach dwellers. "Do you think it will stay this way?" Meanwhile, Lady Sofia addressed the Suzumikami: "That is such an interesting dress, one doesn't see that kind of yellow that often. You must tell me the name of your designer" she chattered in a friendly manner. While his mother expressed her interest in the Dahon ruler's wardrobe, Octavian sought to conceal his interest in it, namely in its use of negative space. The young man turned to his neighbour and asked about the bread; "Is this wheat?"

The clean shaven man would smile "I hear it might rain later this evening. But it is definitely going to be cloudy." his attire was an extravagant blue suit, his blond curly hair tied into a loose ponytail, as many young men of Danceria tended to wear their hair long (the women on the other hand, preferred either to keep it just as long or in a rather maintained bob cut or pixie cut). "And yes, young man, that is wheat you're cringing at. As well as salt and slightly churned cow's milk." he gestured to the butter with a chuckle "what else would bread and butter be made of? If you're planning on eating the main meal, a little appetizer would suit Your Lordship well." he remarked, breaking the bread with his hands before spreading the butter upon it. Almost as if he suddenly remembered something, the man raised his teacup in a silent toast, as did many other Dancerian nobles sporadically. "I am Edgar Castamir, Grand Duke of Figaro and Harad, Ace up there is my cousin." he would inform the Saarkriskian delegation.

"Please to meet you, your Royal Highness" responded the Consul, speaking on behalf of his family. "Please forgive my son, he has not travelled much and has yet to learn that something as basic as wheat bread varies from nation to nation." The Consul shot a warning look at his son. Octavian wisely decided to bite his tongue and resisted the urge to list all the grains from which one can make bread. Instead he took a big bite of this buttered piece of bread, as if to show he wasn't afraid of it. "Do you have children yourself?" asked the Consul as inquiring after family was normal when first meeting someone in Saarkrisken.

Indeed, Karim sighed, but he was overjoyed to hear, that the Dancerian King had such a good grasp of poetry - that was a person, he could get along with, if they got to meet one-on-one. As it stood, that might happen in the near future, as Danceria seemed to be growing closer and closer to Kyrenaia and vice-versa.
He also noted, that the two might have had clashing characters, but they were very close.
The Grand Vizier grinned at the comment about the bowing and scraping, that was indeed one of the things, that foreigners in Kyrenaia found odd about them. "Indeed, it's not good for the back.", he joked and nodded, "But still, I am glad, that Kyrenaia is counted as Danceria's friends. We do the same, after all." He leaned over slightly. The car finally pulled up to the palace and out stepped the two inside. The first to step out was Cleone d'Angeli, the King of Lux Pulchrae, he was almost awed by the sheer size of it, rather impressed. The second one to step out was a woman, the Baroness of Rioblanco, Lourdes de los Lagos. Cleone was a rather young man at the age of 28, he had short black hair which was brushed to the side, he also wore a beard that was trimmed but thick, and stood at 5'10 with a light olive complexion. His attire consisted of his usual royal blue, military-esque suit jacket, with a black vest and white shirt underneath, and black pants. His companion on the other hand had fairer skin and was rather thin, at age 25 with brunette hair. She wore a white dress with shoulder-length cloak, white heels, and white gloves that went to her elbow. On her head she wore a thin, white, lacy veil. There was a reason they called her the "White Baroness" back home.

They entered arm in arm they were ushered to the hall where everyone else was seated "Forgive me for any lateness, Your Majesty, but there was a bit of traffic." Cleone spoke as he walked up to the host and bowed with Lourdes doing a small curtsy, "Cleone d'Angeli IV, King of Lux Pulchrae, pleasure to meet you. This lovely lady," he drew his hand towards her "is Lourdes de los Lagos, Baroness of Rioblanco." she again did a small curtsy.

However, a man with long blond hair would be coincidentally seated near the Suzumikami, and across from the Consul of Saarkrisken.

Kiako took her seat at the table as directed, keeping three things in mind.

The first was cursory enough: she had been told the Lotharian ruler had not yet arrived. Imperceptibly she breathed a sigh of relief.

Second was the plainness of the fare before her; despite her teenage travels, it still jarred her internally to see bread being served as an appetizer, especially at prestigious albeit relaxed functions like this one. In Dahon small slices of flat bread would have been prepared as a side dish, best served and consumed with generous dollops of veal, usually curry -- a tasty, and occasionally messy, token of Indian influence in the days before small cutlery were first introduced.

Lastly, and weirdest of all, she had to admit to herself that her eyes lingered almost a bit too long at the sight of a man of mature years with a headful of hair very nearly as brightly yellow as her gown taking a seat near her.

A welcome distraction provided itself, by means of an inquiry.

Saarkrisken wrote:Meanwhile, Lady Sofia addressed the Suzumikami: "That is such an interesting dress, one doesn't see that kind of yellow that often. You must tell me the name of your designer", she chattered in a friendly manner.

The Suzumikami beamed back at her questioner as she replied, "Thanks for the compliment on the dress. Your dress is a sight for sore eyes, itself -- as it must be for your husband, hm. The designer's an Indian, a friend of mine from my college days. She was in high school ten, but she's got the taste -- and flair, really -- for risqué outfits like this ballgown. For a short while I helped her get the materials she needed while modeling for her in my spare time." Tapping her exposed belly as if to make a point, Kiako went on, "She's a bespoke designer who usually goes it alone and keeps a low profile -- she's well-off enough to begin with, so she can refuse orders at will. The name's Sabrina Chandrapuri."

Then, as if remembering something -- and she did, though she could not recall afterward if it was the name or the unsubtle ribbing the bread-doubting young man received that made her mind her manners -- Kiako said, "Kiako Watanabe, by the way -- one of the three leaders of a little island nation called Dahon. Definitely not Sabrina Chandrapuri, hm. And you are?"

Al-Zahir raised an eyebrow, as his words about speaking with the Sultana sounded foreboding, but he nodded at the question.
"Two sons, Prince Damir and Crown Prince Ilia, a daughter, Princess Rasha, and a granddaughter, Princess Aurelia bint-Damir.", he said with a nod, "All of them singles, currently, no matter what the yellow press says, I might add." He shook his head. He could mention Aurelia and her relationship status, but that would lead to nowhere but tears and anger, so instead, he tried it with humour. "One of the disadvantages of a free press, I suppose... they are still trying to prove, that the Sultana is a hyper-intelligent aubergine, which is, of course, ridiculous." He let a beat pass, his beard moving slightly as he grinned. "She's a hyper-intelligent guacamole, of course."
Dschamilla hid a giggle behind her hand.

Aceus, being fully aware of Aurelia's status, smirked at the joke "Better than being a fire breathing sloth, I suppose." his face was relaxed, but it appeared he was tense about...something. But it was quickly ignored to capitalize on the stoic Princess's brief moment of mirth. "So, Dschamilla, Karim, what are your stories? From what I've heard this would be Karim's first diplomatic mission." Hopefully his missions will be less controversial than my plans for the Sultana Aceus thought grimly, noting the two Crown Princes names to "invite" to the inevitable tea hour with the Sultana. He did not wish for Fara to be a part of it, for he did not know her own views, and preferred to use the yellow press to his advantage. Thanks to a few escapades with the Lord Chancellor and his own cousin, he gradually knew how to spin a narrative. Already the gears of conspiracy wrought within the Dancerian King's mind, echoed by a reassuring yet subtle thumbs up from his cousin down the table. The things I do to talk to a girl...

"It indeed is.", Dschamilla said with a nod, something approaching a smile of pride appearing for but a moment on her face. "My youngest brother..." The Grand Vizier looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "...might as well speak for himself. He is here to learn that, after all."
Both missed the moment of grimness in Aceus, but Fara didn't, who narrowed her eyes for but a moment, before she watched Karim speak. She liked the boy, but not in the way she liked Aceus.
Karim smiled a bit nervously and began to speak, pronouncing every syllable clearly, yet with a certain melody, one of the paticularities of the Kyrenaian accent. "I indeed am for the first time abroad as a Special Junior Ambassador and I am glad, that this trip led me to such a good friend of Kyrenaia.", he said, his nervousness slowly fading, "My older sister is more experienced in these matters then I am, but I hope, that I will reach her level of experience and skill in diplomacy one day, by hard work and tenacity. I want to adequately serve the Sultanate and the Ilkhanate of Fenchu, be it as a diplomat or in another function. As I am graduating next year, the question of my future becomes important, as for many young people in Kyrenaia and elsewhere."
Dschamilla nodded slowly, something akin to pride mixing into her eyes.
