70 years ago, we had the same flag as we do during the present period of time. This design was implemented over 300 years ago by King Leon IV after the coup of General Starly and the formation of the Ruvian Constitution. It represents a vision of Ru as a modernized nation state, rather than a feudal or absolute monarchy of the past.

Our national flag from 70 years ago had the design from the Commonwealth era, used from 1936 until 1997. It was based on late Pres. Emilio Aguinaldo's Fuerzas Expedicionarias flag, Pio del Pilar's personal flag, and the Katipunan-designed official flag of the First Philippine Republic in 1897.

Our current flag uses a dark cerulean blue, colloquially 'azul oscuro'. The sun on the Fuerzas flag was utilized, and instead of the conceived equilateral triangle, a flat Masonic triangle is used.
