Xkoranate can generate as many results over as many matchdays as you like at once, over a huge number of different sports, while excel sheets will generally at best generate one match, or a single group's matches at once.

OK, that makes sense, have had a play around with it and can see that it's far more user friendly than an excel spreadsheet would be!

One last question, typically how long does a user have to be around before it's appropriate for them to host something?

Typically, a user that has been around for a couple months or that's competed in a few major tournaments before can be trusted to host something small. Maturity and competence is something that goes a long way in building a hosting reputation, and having the patience to wait a cycle or two of tournaments before dipping your toes into the hosting world can be great for that.

Far too many newbies think they have hosting figured out on Day 1 and try posting up lots of bids, but if you wait awhile to get a grip on how everything really rolls first, your chances of success improve greatly. After all, just like hosting isn't just posting some pretty stadium pictures, hosting isn't just tossing numbers into xkoranate. The entire timing, feel, and success of a tournament's running is on your shoulders, so to get votes people have to trust you to make it all go smoothly. That's what matters most (not to discount all the other factors though - everything is important)!

Obviously your first potential hosting job wouldn't be something huge like the World Cup or Olympics, but typically a smaller regional tournament or other minor competition can be a great first stepping stone to building your way up to the big jobs. The more experience you have the more trust you have, but you have to start small.

In any case, good luck, and hopefully you enjoy your time here. :)

That completely depends on the user - hosting requires trust, experience and reliability, so enter a few competitions and get to know how the various tournaments work and the culture and etiquette around them. The best way to get into hosting is to start your own domestic leagues - for football the place for them is the Domestic Newswires thread (and it's discussion thread).

Once you've done that for a while, perhaps traded some players internationally too, and decided that you like that sort of thing, then perhaps host a small invitational tournament for your favourite sport, or one that isn't held often, then see if you liked that, and then try and get into something like a Baptism of Fire or Cup of Harmony bid as the junior partner.

What are the rules on non-human sportsmen\sportswomen\lovecraftian horrors and the potential advantages they have over humans or vice versa?

The short answer is that there are no actual forum-wide rules on non-human participation in NS Sports events. To expand on that answer though, first, and most importantly, when it comes to scorination and the actual deciding of results, there is zero difference whatsoever between non-human and human teams, regardless of whether or not the non-humans should be vastly superior/inferior to their human opponents. All that matters is a team's rank, the user's RP(s), and the randomness factor. As for the roleplaying itself, it's basically up to the user to explain what advantages and/or disadvantages their non-human team might have against human opposition and how that might impact the actual event itself. For example, I always include a link to this RP of mine from a few years back that gives my opponents a quick run-down on the quirks of my majority-equine team.

To speak from my own experience, as someone whose nation is absolutely made up of humans, like EQS said, the more preliminary information you develop for strengths/weaknesses of your particular life forms, the better it is for people who are up against you in competitions. I make every effort to stick closely to others' descriptions and parameters, but on the day, for RP purposes I have to just treat any non-human as a generic human for the storyline I come up with. That's part of the creativity of RP--how to solve a problem and then work the specific species/lifeform angle into it.

It depends on the sport and how it's scored. Some you could modify the file of an existing sport on xkoranate. Some you'd have to make it yourself on a spreadsheet.

Making a spam post in a thread (typically just "tag") so that it appears in "View your posts". Its considered bad practice and is also unnecessary since its possible to ask a substantive question in an OOC thread or post a roster or RP in an IC thread and accomplish the same thing.

This is probably misplaced, but I want to share someone with you. I was answering Vilita and Turori in NSSCRA Discussion topic, and noticed something.

I think we should have a graphics one-stop-shop. It could list all sport-related storefronts, Like Krbustan Sports, Meski, Valls Rugby, ediraf, et cetera. It also could list reference images and templates for people wanting to design uniforms, liveries, logos and other images, like our counterpart to Table RPG props.

Yes please! I'd love to design graphics for my RP, but either I work on them for twice as long as I do on the actual RP or they look like they were made by someone who just downloaded Gimp because I don't really know where to get resources, handle the tools etc. so I mostly end up working text based. Which is unfortunate, because I admire all the graphics work people like you do.

As Lisander said, the T20 World Cup is already underway, so you won't be able to participate. Here's the link though:Link

All things cricket on NS Sport can be found here: Cricket Diacussion Thread. There are only T20 and test tournaments at the moment. That said, it is highly recommended that you participate and find out how things work around here before starting your own tournament.

What exactly do you mean? The white box with the results is done with [pre], the line is [hr].

You can always click on the quote button to see how the person writing the post formatted it, however if you take over formatting for more elaborate things (ex. roster posts) I personally think it's good form to ask for permission and/or credit the person from whom you copied it.

What makes a good Domestic Newsfeed that people want to keep going back to? Recently started up mine and whilst I obviously want to strike up a balance of it being fun for myself (most important!) I want to create and write about things that bring people into the world? Does anyone have any advice, or good Domestic Newsfeeds that they can link to?

Personally, I like domestic threads that make it easy to understand what's going on. Having an unclear format and dozens of top level teams might be fun to set up, but it's very hard to read. I like it when teams have some sort of identity, be it through a graphic, logo, adjective, motto, city, mascot or team colour, as those make the league (and the team) feel most alive to me. Having one or two household players to come back to per team are fun too, though I'm not going to expect someone to retain even one name from my domestic thread. Also I like it when people can make the consequences of a match or a ranking clear, instead of just colour-coding it. I don't know what the colours mean, is it qualification for UICA? Playoffs? Relegation? Relegation playoffs?

Basically, make me invested in your league or even just one team.

I like to think my domestic thread is a good example (see my sig), but I wouldn't mind some feedback on my domestic posts either.
