OTTO III DEAD
Otto III, King of Neuburg, passed away last night after briefly regaining consciousness.
The third member of the House of Neuburg-Bourbon to die this year, the monarch has no heir apparent. Otto III passed without any children, as did his brother, who died earlier this year as well. His youngest brother, who died in the Second Great War, had two children. One of which, Louis Ferdinand, died this year as well, and is survived by his sister Elisabeth Maria, who is unfit for the role due to her gender.

As the entire legal line of succession has died out, the throne currently remains vacant. Josef Gulyás will likely continue to serve as the regent until a successor is determined or the laws of succession are changed. General Gulyás is a lifelong friend of Otto III, and was supposedly designated as regent before Otto slipped into a coma.
Otto was born to Karl Wilhelm of Neuburg and his wife Maria in 1911. He lived a lofty upbringing, typical of European royalty at the time. After passing secondary education in 1929, he met Juliane de Hesse, who he married after post-secondary education in 1933. At the breakout of the Second Great War, Otto served as an officer in the Union Air Force, and after the war in 1948, his father died and Otto became the Grand Protector of the Union.
The monarch has become a symbol of the post-war years in Neuburg, as well as a prominent Cold War leader. He rarely involved himself in political affairs, except in matters of internal security, such as in the Banat Incident. He also approved the electoral reforms of 1953 and was friendly with several African dictators, such as Kaiser August Wilhelm XVI of New Burgundy.
The nation has entered a state of mourning for the next month, and all flags of the Union and its states will be flown on half-mast. Both aisles of the Congress of Deputies issued an issue of grievance and observed the monarch's life.
With the question of a lack of successor for the monarch, Neuburg will face division about the future over who should take the throne, if at all.
