Hey Dentali! Good to see you. Having flaws is great. Makes for a more interesting character. One reason I always hated Superman in the comics and movies. If your only flaw is a rare earth element hard to find and extremely expensive, then yeah, you are too OP.

I've come around on superman, they have significantly powered him down in the past few decades. Additionally they figured out how to write him, making him a dad has been great.
No the guy im thinking of will be tough, but not completely invulnerable
ie: gets hit by a tank shell probably knocks him unconcious but it wont kill him and he will recover

PLAYER CHARACTER APPLICATION
VITALS
Name: Veronica Crawford
Nickname/Alias: Crimson Calamity
Appearance:
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Build: 5'8, 126 lbs
Primary Ability:
- Demonic Arm - The limb allows for attacks that would damage someones soul, and for the potential to absorb and devour enemies. In addition, the arm can only be harmed my 'magical' abilities, making the arm a valuable weapon against non-magical metahumans and regular humans. It's large enough to be used as a shield against most projectiles and small arms fire.
Other Abilities:
- Accelerated Healing - Absorbing enemies via the arm allows for Veronica to heal herself at an accelerated rate. Possibly lethal injuries can be mitigated by devouring enemies.
- Enhanced Condition - Devouring enemies allows for temporary boosts of strength, speed and durability in combat. Depending on the scores of enemies devoured, the enhancements can last for days.
Power Drawbacks:
- The demon who once possessed this arm still lives. Occasionally it still attempts to exert influence over the arm, leading to physical fights for control over the arm.
- Human and Demon aren't meant to intermingle. As she adjusts to her limb over time, she experiences heightened and more volatile emotions and behavior, leading to random bouts of confrontation and violence.
Equipment:
- Medication (An injection meant to sedate and dull her emotions, allowing her to calm herself post battle or prevent a bout of violence. This does not prevent the arms sentient behavior however.
- Switchblade - Someone can't rely on a single gimmick indefinitely. The switchblade is an adequate backup weapon at close quarters.
DETAILS
Nationality: American
Hometown: Orlando, Florida
Sexuality: Bisexual
Biggest Flaw: Veronica's source of power is also the source of her greatest weakness. The nature of her arm is a constant drain on her mental and physical state, only expedited by the ocassional loss of control of the arm. She chooses to suffer in silence however, preferring to continue fighting for her fellow heroes in the face of her duty to keep criminality in check. Not even sleep offers reprieve as she is plagued with nightmares and now verges on a lust for attacking any living thing in sight. This is a desire she managed to keep in check and take out on whoever would be unfortunate enough to stand against her and her compatriots.
Main Skills: What Veronica may lack in advanced intellect and self-control she more than makes up for in perserverance and dedication to her duty. Some would attest that her loyalty is her greatest asset, or perhaps even the brutality she shows to criminals and other foes.
Personality: Outside of 'work' Veronica is seen as quiet and somber, normally only speaking when spoken to. Choosing solitude over conversing with her fellow 'metahumans' if one could even consider her a real one, she believes keeping to herself is the best way to maintain her own sanity, out of fear of lashing out at her comrades. When she is bothered, her temper is rather short and she resorts to threatening others quickly, a trait she is aware of and despises herself for. Despite her attempts to change and become a more calm and collected individual, she often can't get the idea of combat or fighting out of her head.
Biography: Veronica's birth was natural in terms of process, but not in terms of circumstance. Her life was decided for her before her by the order of the arcane as soon as her brainwaves even began to become noticeable. Planned to become an experiment by her mother and father, dedicated researchers in 'Demonology' seeking ways to refine and expedite combat against demonic entities. While not needlessly cruel to her as a child or growing up and providing the necessary care to make her life comfortable, they made her understand at a young age that she was a child with her fate decided for her. A weapon in the making that would be created to protect others. Often distraught by the supposedly grandoise nature of her destiny, Veronica solemnly accepted that she didn't need to be cared for nor loved. Instead, she vowed to become fiercely independent and exactly what she was expected to be. A force for others to rely on, but not vice versa.
It was when she was fifteen that Veronica underwent the extremely painful process at having her demonic limb attached to her, and after the initial sickness and nightmares, she was able to establish some semblance of control over the limb. Undergoing years of training, she was able to finally weaponize the arm into a manageable state that would allow her to fight demons and criminals alike. The only cost was her deteriorating health and sanity, and if the arm didn't consume her mind, her body would likely be unable to handle the strain for more than 10 more years past the current date. Initially she accepted this fact, ready to do her duty, but as the date of her death grows closer she becomes more uncertain. To throw away her life with almost no return seems unfair sometimes, but she reminds herself that it is merely the machinations of the arm attempting to sway her away from the path of justice and honor. Tenets she's been taught to uphold.

Depends on how you define non powered. You can have characters without overt powers, such as those with hyper intelligence or people who rely on magical equipment without having powers of their own, but someone with straight up no powers or advanced tech wouldn't be accepted into the Syndicate.Dentali wrote:

If your toughness is strong enough that you can get hit with a tank shell and only get knocked unconscious, you'll probably have to make that the primary ability and any other abilities added on are significantly weakened to make sure the character is balanced. Since functionally, your character is going to be invulnerable to a great number of threats on the battlefield.

I don't think so as long as you don't become invincible because of it. There's some ways to nerf it, like making it take time to change. That way you can't just dodge every attack with the power, for example. It also depends on the kind of gas. Just shifting into harmless gas wouldn't be overpowered, it might be overpowered if it was vx gas or something along those lines.
