Some Bernie Sanders-style populist, maybe.

Does anyone think Trump will have a strong challenger in the next GOP primary?

Not likely, considering his extreme popularity with the GOP. Any moderate candidate for the GOP would get crushed.

The Democrats take the House in 2018. Explosive allegations eventually come to light as a result of the investigation. The Democrats impeach Trump, igniting a political crisis and bringing the fight into the Senate (which is narrowly held by Republicans). The country is consumed by scandal.

Mike Pence takes charge and pardons Trump. All is well with the nation once more.

You gotta get Trump out of office first. I don't think he would resign, so the Senate would need to convict him. That requires a two-thirds vote, which may not be possible to pull off.

That'd mean they'd be popular though, last I checked the pseudo-socialists haven't been doing to well.

Not likely, considering his extreme popularity with the GOP. Any moderate candidate for the GOP would get crushed.

Despite that, I think it's important for someone in the GOP to try and pose a challenge.

No Republican in the Senate would vote for his conviction, not even the moderates (which they shouldn't even be considered that anyway). Impeachment isn't a working issue for the Democrats because of that.

Imho we still need to raise Teddy from the dead and put the country back on track.

That's my read on the situation as well. I do think that, under those conditions, a GOP primary challenger of some kind might emerge. I don't think he could beat Trump, but it would be a spectacle.

Who would try and pull that off? Paul Ryan is done for and he's headed for a more lucrative career as a lobbyist for the Heritage Foundation or something.

Getting things done is the last thing I want out of our current government.

Mainly because whatever they do will only be things that help the rich and powerful, while leaving everyone else out in the rain and mud.
