Do women usually hold a job? If they don't have children yet, yes. Otherwise, no.

Are there any jobs that have recently allowed women? The secret police started allowing women to become officers in 2046 (8 years ago).
What is the public opinion of women holding jobs? Women in the workplace are considered important to the nation's success -- as long as they don't let it get in the way of their parental role.

Name of country: The Federal Kingdom of Samudera Darussalam

What percentage of the population do women make up?
Based on the last census in 2017, women/female comprise roughly 49.5% percent of the total population.
What are women typically seen as?
Generally, women are seen as an important part of the society because of their significant contribution to the society in household and education. Most Samuderans view women as equal with men in status, while some, such as the Minangkabau, hold women in high regards where in some part they are even generally more honored than men and are considered as matriarchs.
Do women usually hold a job?
For the most part, yes. Most women are employed or run their own business, but some women, particularly in conservative areas, choose to be housewives.
If so, what kind of jobs?
Women are usually employed in education, health care, agriculture, administration, public broadcasting, bank, marketing, and customer service. Many women also set up their own business, while others work as chefs, maids, stewardesses, and musicians.
Are there any jobs that women are barred from legally?
There is no prohibition or restriction according to the constitution, though restriction do exist because of society norms. For example, women are usually discouraged from military because they (as gentle, motherly creatures in stereotype) are seen as unfit for a job that is associated with violence, though historically some military commanders who did stand out in Samudera Darussalam are in fact women, such as Admiral Malahayati or Cut Nyak Dhien. Similarly, women working as clerics have some restrictions, such as leading the religious ceremony or salat.
Are there any jobs that have recently allowed women?
No, because all jobs are open to any regardless of gender in the first place.
What is the public opinion of women holding jobs?
Most regard it as normal.

═───╡❖╞────────═ Women in the Freehold ═────────╡❖╞───═

What percentage of the population do women make up?

The actual statistics of sexual distribution are not measured by the Freehold but there is no evidence to suggest it varies anymore than 2% above or below 50%, giving a minimum of 48% and a maximum of 52%.

What is the perception of women in society?

The 'perception' of women is vague. This is typically impacted by class and origin, as Ephyra is a multi-ethnic empire. Within the confines of the Freehold as a polity of incorporated places as opposed to the larger expanse of territory administered by but not represented by the larger state, the majority of women belong to one of the four ethnolinguistic divisions of the Selian race, or associated races whom are as culturally and linguistically Selian as the Selians themselves. Within this Selian culture and its expansion outwards is a patriarchal model that places men at a position of command in the political, diplomatic, military, and familial spheres, but rendered effectively expendable as they will be the ones expected to fight in times of war. Women are held in a position of protection, to be kept out of danger and provided for. At the core of this ideology is the child, whom is outright indispensable.

Women are not regarded as an inferior class but their spheres of operation do not overlap with that of the man, as the Freehold regards competition between the sexes to be anti-natalist and immoral. Women have extensive control over their household, in aspiration and in demonstration of being the matron of the household, to pass those skills to their daughters, and to work alongside but not counter to her husband. Women do not directly engage in political activities, and are barred from military service. Women are however permitted to buy, own, and dispose of their own property as they see fit, but typically this is done by women who have already been and effectively still are matrons.

Women, from the age of adulthood, are expected to commit to the marriages they will end up in and the children they shall produce. However the question itself is misleading as the burden of responsibilities is not solely on women and is arguably moreso on the men. Whilst women in the Freehold do have expected roles and duties, this by no means suggests that men are devoid of any.

The majority of these citizen, freeborn women that are promoted for being mothers and wives tend to come from a 'fit' middle class, and are the ones that are most pushed towards the maintenance of traditional roles. The lower citizen classes also maintain these roles through local communal reinforcement but receive far less social inclination to do so. It is in fact the upper class that are most deviated from this. Because of this, the average social view of middle class women is that of biological fitness, nationalistic pride, and true femininity, aspired to and often help up as a model by the lower class. The upper class women are however regarded as far less traditionalistic. Due to their abundant wealth and armies of slaves and servants, a great many have little ability or even interest in the feminine duties performed par excellence by their sisters of the classes beneath them. Even the raising of a child might be delegated to servants, which leaves upper class women (at least in the eyes of the lower and middle classes) as little more than baby-producers with no interest or use to their society.

Whilst this isn't true of all the upper class, as a good core of families maintain strong traditionalist ideals, and are appropriately praised for them, the societal views to slave women, or non-citizen women are typically far less kind than even the view to the upper class. Most peoples in the Freehold's control beyond its incorporated places hold no citizenship, at best hold the limited Lykosian Rights, and have at best only partially adopted Selian ideas. There is practically no state promotion of reproduction or proper feminine duty amongst these women as they would not be producing more citizens but more provincials. There is a limited campaign but this occurs in municipal areas where conversion to Selian culture is underway and is expected to be successful. The more in-land communities however show little sign of assimilation and are regarded as a burden. As foreigners, perceived barbarians, and non-citizens, the women of these groups are regarded as little better than whores, especially as many of their kind would've been enslaved during the conquests, and a great many captured women would've been put to that exact line of work.

What clothes are women expected to wear?

The freeborn citizen women of the Freehold wear traditional Selian attire, specifically that of the Rhyosian city-state of Ephyra, which the Freehold is essentially an extension of. The women of Ephyra solely wear dresses, usually long, around ankle-length, but with no coverage of the arms, general shoulder of exposure, and depending on the form of the dress, minimal to greater exposure of the chest area in forms ranging from a-line to v-neck. These dresses are often longer and shapeless when loose and are secured by the use of a belt under the breasts, though is isn't true in all cases. Some dresses may also be halter, and others will take a myriad of other forms according to what was traditionally worn. Sandals are worn upon the feet which partially or do not cover the tops of the feet, and can often lace up the leg but no higher than the knee. Hair is grown long, and either worn as such or tied / pinned up, which is often dictated by personal choice as much as situational expectation. Women of wealthier dispositions may accentuate themselves with finer things, but kept to a moderation, as both for men and women, excessive dress is regarded as 'eastern', which is considered negative and pejorative. For men, it is thought to make them look effeminate, whilst for women it is thought to make them look like whores. Such items include wrist and ankle bracers, upper-arm bracers, hair-dresses, more expensive dress belts.

Make-up is minimal, and some women do apply typically dark, kohl-like eyeliner and shade around their eyes. Married women traditionally wear a choker-like garment of metal around their neck, the social equivalent of a wedding ring. This is fairly wide but not constricting, and does not impact head movement.

Women of poorer classes will lack for some of the finer additions of wealthier women, wear dresses of lower quality and colour, but otherwise retain pride in their traditionalist attire. The Freehold, and women themselves, regard the length of a dress' skirt as socially acceptable at any length below the knee, but favour the ankle for traditional purposes. Above the knee is regarded to be immoral and attention-seeking, but typically towards what are considered to be equally lesser men. Morally upstanding men typically hold little interest in this. A skirt that descends no lower than the middle of the thigh is thought of as outright obscene. These standards are typically more in place for women from more liberal countries who may come as tourists, as virtually no population of the Freehold actually wears dresses this short. Whilst such women are reminded they have nothing to fear from the proper men of society should they wear these dresses, they are reminded that every society has its more debauched members, and for their own safety of defence and moral security they should not wear such garments.

Whilst exposure of the breast does not have the same connotations in Ephyral society as in Western, its exposure is still socially unacceptable in general because general exposure does not meet the different connotations held, and is therefore still discouraged strongly.

Women of assimilated communities typically wear their local custom dress.

Are women expected to wear make-up or cosmetics?

Not expected, but within the parameters of modesty, a woman is by all means encouraged to demonstrate the wealth of her family through what adorns her body.

Do women usually hold a job?

No. Freeborn citizen women have a promoted first duty as wives and mothers.

If so, what kind of jobs?

Despite this, women can and do hold some jobs but these are not regular. If the husband of a woman, or a father, manages a family business, she may have a role in managing it, and will be financially compensated for it. As a wife, this is secondary to her duty as a mother, and as a daughter, this would continue only as long as she is unmarried.

Are there any jobs that women are barred from legally?

Women may not serve in the military of the Freehold. Attempting to do so by disguise as a male is actually an offence against public order. Women may also have no role in the political process, either as voters or candidates. Attempting to disguise oneself as a man for this is actually a more severe issue than deception to enter the military.

Women are not even permitted within the Senatorial chambers without a direct express invitation. The precedent for this was the succession crisis in the early city-state of Ephyra. After the death of Nalarios, who ruled Ephyra as something akin to a king or a tyrant in its early centuries before Arconian subjugation, Nalarios' wife and daughter entered the chamber of the Council of Patriarchs (the precursor to the Senate). The Patriarchs were responsible for electing the next tyrant, and until Nalarios, they had elected only descendants through the male line of their founder, Lykos. However, Nalarios had no male descendants, which posed an issue. Both his wife and daughter pressed their claims, almost violently, until they were removed from the chamber. A patriarch called Valyrion was elected, and under his rule it was decreed that unless explicitly invited by the members of the Council, no woman could ever enter. An attempt to violate this rule is regarded as an offence against religion, as the chamber is sanctioned by the gods and all decrees are held sacred when in effect.

Women's role in government is also limited, and whilst some positions are open, these are no higher than civil servants.

Are there any jobs that have recently allowed women?

Only those jobs that have recently been created that are not socially seen as necessary to explicitly exclude them, but the likelihood of female entry at any rate is low.

What is the public opinion of women holding jobs?

That in a moral society it should not be necessary for them to do so. That in a moral society, a woman who has performed her duties as a mother to the next generation of citizens is free to use her property as she sees fit to acquire wealth she might pass on to those children through inheritance. But in no way is it thought of as acceptable for women of the Freehold to have to look to their own labour for survival. Because of this, and the nature of marriages, women are married to men who are perceived by their families as being able to provide. He will judge her therefore by her peer's description of her moral virtues, her father's guarantee of her fertility and chastity, and her education by her mother in womanly arts in all that will make a good wife and mother, such as he is expected to make a good husband and father. If either party is found to be lacking, a divorce will typically occur that will allow both parties to re-marry and attempt greater success. Marriage is not an arrangement of love.

What percentage of the population do women make up?: 53% (There are 356 million more women than men).
What is the perception of women in society?: Our nation is a "sexless" society, women and men hold equal status on all things.
What clothes are women expected to wear?: Whatever they want, mostly the style of the west, new world.
Are women expected to wear make-up or cosmetics?: They do, but not necessarily. It's not a "requirement" of society, but is done for personal benefit and as a declaration of social status.
Do women usually hold a job?: Yes
If so, what kind of jobs?: Most women work in government jobs, while men take up most private sector jobs. Since pay, benefits, and career advancement in both are about equal for both men and women in both sectors, no one knows why women are more attracted to government jobs over private sector jobs, but it may have something to do with job security.
Are there any jobs that women are barred from legally?: No
Are there any jobs that have recently allowed women?: Women where once barred from Fire and Police work, but that ended in the 1980's.
What is the public opinion of women holding jobs?: About the same as men holding jobs.

If so, what kind of jobs? Any job really, they are not barred from any.

What percentage of the population do women make up? 65.3% (post-war effect)
What is the perception of women in society? Equal in rights, but the society still has a sentiment that values motherhood. So women are expected to marry at some point of their life, but not required to quit their job.
What clothes are women expected to wear? This is a social class thing. Workers and your everyday people can't care less what one another wear. But women among the educated elites or party members are expected to wear appropriate and rather fashionable clothes, with a stress on skirts. But in the end, no one cares.
Are women expected to wear make-up or cosmetics? Somewhat. The trend is dying down and people are giving less darn collectively.
Do women usually hold a job? Yes. This is a worker's state. Everyone should have job.
If so, what kind of jobs? Everything they can and want to do.
Are there any jobs that women are barred from legally? Not at all.
Are there any jobs that have recently allowed women? I'd say the military but then again what I mean is that the conscription only recently includes women.
What is the public opinion of women holding jobs? Perfectly normal.

The formerly wartorn nation keeps a facade of normalcy and order while enjoying the societal and cultural decadence that marks the new Roaring Twenties. The paranoid authoritarian government tries its best to uphold order in the face of uncertainty, while its people want nothing more than a breathing space.
