With the current administration's policies on global warming, I'm pretty sure they're already on that.

So what you're telling me is that the current administration (Trump) wants to support a more free capitalism, but he's inadvertently supporting communism by making our sea levels rise with greater industry?

Not the most ludicrous conspiracy theory I've heard. Actually, I think that could be an issue: increasing economic freedom & corporate support in the nation fuses with a lack of environmental care, & soon everyone has to start working together to not be flooded by rising sea levels, some saying it's good, some saying it's bad.

Shwe Tu Colony wrote:Option 1: "Honestly, your nation's flood defenses ... are terrible, @@LEADER@@," claims Zee Zuid, a Welkinland immigrant known for her work with Welkin flood defense. "Where I come from, we've had to deal with floods since we were known as the Welkins, so we're pretty knowledgeable in this sort of stuff. In fact, I'll go and fix up your awful defenses for a small fee. Not even the collective tears of frustrated gamers and whiny children will overcome this wall!"
Fallout 1: even the mightiest of tsunamis fail to penetrate the Great @@NAME@@ Coastal Defenses
I'm not too fond of this suggestion coming from a foreigner, because in-character, this is supposed to be what my nation is good at. Also, what if a nation has the Autarky policy? Or No Immigration?

Shwe Tu Colony wrote:Option 2: "This was a horrible idea in the first place!" says @@RANDOMNAME@@, an environmentalist opposed to sea reclamation. "If we hadn't decided to dry up the seas, my twice-removed cousin might still have their house. Plus, there are disastrous environmental effects from reclamation, like... um... just know that there are! And it's plain dangerous, especially when the soil starts liquefying and sliding everywhere from the water. You need to stop any and all land reclamation projects, or you'll surely regret it when ninety percent of the nation's land is drowned!"
Fallout 2: nobody is reclaiming lost items from now-flooded reclaimed land
This option is fine, other than the misuse of the word "their" and the poor effect line.

Shwe Tu Colony wrote:Option 3: "But what if we just reclaim more land?" asks local town idiot @@RANDOMNAME@@. "It's just like printing more money to counter inflation, only with land and water! Just think about it: if we have thousands of plots of reclaimed land, the water can't flood it all, right? As it is, we only have like a hundred plots, which is easy to flood because there's less space for the water to consume. Therefore, more plots equals more space equals a region that's harder to flood! Flawless logic, am I right?"
Fallout 3: citizens drive farther and farther for beaches due to mass land reclamation
So... a crazy option. Okay, but it feels like a followup issue should have more than one non-crazy non-reversal option. Unfortunately, I can't think of anything else. When it comes down to it, "continue what we were doing, but make sure to do it really well" simply is the sensible answer here.

Hmmk, I'll make her a native @@DEMONYMNOUN@@ or remove it entirely & just say she has experience in flood defense.

I used "their" once? As for the effect line, I'll see what I can do about it.

Maybe an option where the government has people use boat homes/stores instead of buildings on the ground & convert any previous residential areas into shops/industries that can't convert to boat life? That way, there's less demand for sea reclamation as there will only be a demand of room from expanding industries. I'll probably make another option for private industry & leave option 1 as the "government-based repair" option.

Made some small changes, in particular replacing option 4 with an equally stupid Flex Tape reference.

I like this issue solely because of option four. Here are some comments: (on mobile, sorry for the brief comments!)

In the desc, put 'eventually' in front of 'burst'.

@@DEMONYM@@ in option one effect line? The speaker is obviously not from @@NAME@@, maybe describe where he is from?

Are there actually companies that specialize in land reclamation for option two? The effect line is eh. He complains against take hikes, but wants subsidization that will lead to more taxes?

Nothing with option three that stands out.

Love option four.

Not quite sold on option five. Seems a little too radical, even for NS.

Houseboats are a real thing. Though you can use them for shops too, if you go this route you'll probably want to use most of your actual land for farming.

That's an awful lot of people to throw onto boats, though...

Yeah, but it's something we've already done...

If we do end up with more than one way to make everyone live on boats, we should make it a proper policy flag so we can make a followup. There's bound to be some interesting complication that will turn up...

Anyway, I made some changes based on Sacara's suggestions.

Hmm, don't know if you're aware that there was an issue in the pool about dikes already, which I've actually been editing the last week or so:

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=435466

I thought it seemed familiar when I fished it out but a search of the submissions queue didn't turn anything similar up. Now, of course, I realise it was familiar because I'd spent so long looking at THIS draft.

Anyway, SingNo2's draft was started a couple of months ahead of your one, and was submitted long enough ago that it was near the bottom of the accepted issues pool. I think it may well render your one redundant, as it's likely only days from being published.

Sorry, I should have thought of it sooner. I think the two drafts went together in my head, and I'd mentally categorised them as the same entity.
