Maggie was the middle sibling in a large famous family of Gotham. She was part of a famous political dynasty; her parents were both grandchildren of Gotham Mayors, and thus were involved in politics themselves. However, her parents and entire family were more interested in making money than in changing Gotham for the better. Young and idealistic Maggie was disgusted by her parents’ greed, and decided to leave the family to make a change herself. She ended up dropping out of the community college she was in, instead training with the GCPD and becoming a police detective for the department’s Major Crimes Unit.

Earlier, she was ignored in the department. She wasn’t a hotshot young detective like the much-talked-about Madison Clifford; she wasn’t a reviled but tough cop like Chief Bullock. Neither was she an honest-to-God goody two shoes like Commissioner James Gordon. She lived the life of a regular cop, receiving boring burglary cases that got closed in three days. However, the GCPD administration led by Commisioner Gordon soon adopted a new rule to keep senior officers in check by mandating that every high-ranking detective be delegated a young partner, including the Chief of Police; this was a move to try to decrease corruption in the police department. Chief Bullock got to pick his own partner, and he chose the one who he thought would keep out of his way the most. But Maggie’s shy demeanor was all a farce. She was waiting for a shot like this. As soon as she was promoted to partner of the Chief, Maggie showed her true colors as a brave and perceptive officer who was especially adept at finding evidence and outthinking suspects. She’s been proven to be a thorn in Harvey Bullock’s back, but Maggie has learned to cope with the rugged cop’s behavior. She hopes to soon lead the MCU herself, and someday ascend to the level that James Gordon has.
