Name: Eljin Constant
Age: 34
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Appearance: Almost six foot, with a mass of 82kg.
Bio: Born Paul Spicer on the mining habitat station Moon-Harrok, Eljin enjoyed a comfortable life. His parents, owners of both Moon-Harrok and a dozen other mining interests across the sparsely-populated Celsius system, provided him every luxury that could be afforded. From a young age he received a great deal of resources and responsibility, all in an effort to prepare him for the eventually of succeeding his parents as head of their modestly successful mining corporation. He took lessons in personal combat, with his parents sparing no expense on a series of instructors from the oldest colonies to teach their son in the fashionable swordplay famous among certain castes within the Republic.
Though initially expected to oversee the logistical management of Moon-Harrok's storerooms, the youth who would come to be known as Eljin instead pressured his parents to allow him to instead focus on science. Taking an deep interest in the native population of Harrok, above which Moon-Harrok sat, Eljin pursued the enigmatic science around Harroki medicine. Unlike the mainstream methodologies of the Republic, which looked to robotics and chemistry for advancement, the Harroki had turned to biology in its entirety. Living organisms became the tools by which Harroki kept their people alive, from bacteria cleansing bodies of cancer to symbiont weaves for regrowth of limbs. For years Eljin studied this fascinating field for inspiration, unifying the cultural achievements of the Harroki with human knowledge. But as with all good things, Eljin's exploits drew an envious gaze.
Designing specialised bio-augmentations and equipment - from symbiont rebreathers capable of rendering synthetic material variants obsolete, to fungal networks to facilitate telepathy - Paul Spicer expected to become a living legend in the Republic. For the Mortorian Conglomerate, such an outcome was...undesirable. So when he refused to sell away his discoveries, the Mortorians - quietly backed by the Republic's Board for Singularity Research who desired more influence over the mining colonies of the outer territories - staged a mutiny aboard Moon-Harrok.
Paul survived only via the support of the Harroki, who aided in shuttling him to the deep space refueling post Jav Malvae. From there, that unofficial meeting place of criminality and washouts, it was not hard for Paul to find what he needed: the means for vengeance. Boarding a Freeman ship, new name and new life, Eljin Constant began his career of piracy that would stretch a dozen different crews. Though ostensibly maintaining that he is nothing more than a wronged doctor, Eljin cannot help but let his more bloodthirsty interests show now and again, with new weapons and equipment of biological origin somehow finding its way into a ship's armoury.
Role: Chief Medical Officer
Skills: First Aid - Proficient; Surgery - Proficient; Research (Biological) - Genius; Research (Medical) - Proficient; Engineering (Medical) - Genius; Engineering (Biological) - Proficient; Firearms - Capable; Melee (Noble) - Proficient
Personality: Eljin Constant isn't very good at masking how he feels, though the good doctor gets stubborn when asked to explain those emotions. He complains about everything, nursing everything imagined as a personal slight against him. Disbeliever in god, he considers himself morally superior to those with faith, and is often vocal about it. As such he is not seen as a charismatic or particularly likeable figure, especially when he refuses to blunt his honest assessments of situations and people.
Strengths and Weaknesses: Gifted scientist when it comes to harnessing the power of biology and unifying it with more mainstream technologies, however his specialisation is such that outside Harroki or human levels of intelligence, he is as useful as a rock for uncovering new and exciting fields of research; talented engineer, capable of designing and creating working devices and organisms with which to save lives, and kill them in the most barbaric manners, but this is limited entirely to his field of understanding as he has no talent - and as such no interest - in the making or crafting of objects that could be used, for example, with the maintenance of a spaceship; Competent martial figure when it comes to personal combat, able to handle himself more than any real doctor has a right to, however given his lack of formal training, and abject disregard for such notions as discipline or anything resembling a long-term strategy, he is no tactician nor team player when it comes to a firefight; given his lack of subtlety or regard for the feelings of those around him, Eljin is no leader, nor a particularly promising negotiator for when dealing with rivals or trade partners.
