The meaning of life

Postby The Derpy Democratic Republic Of Herp » Thu Jul 12, 2018 10:11 am

It's the question isn't it? What is the meaning of life?

I have been thinking about it a lot. And I think I know the answer. It's different for everyone. But for me, it's to be happy as possible all the time and to make everyone around you as happy as possible.

It works for both theistic and non theistic points of view.

If there isn't a god, and the only thing after death is just an endless stream of nothing, then you might as well have as much fun and happiness as possible.

You won't be here in the world forever, so make the most of it while you can.

If there is a god, and after death is endless paradise, then making the children of god happy is only a positive thing.

Making others happy can be as simple as cheering them up when they feel blue, to giving a starving man food.

Christianity says that "Charity is the theological virtue by which we love God above all things for his own sake, and our neighbor as ourselves for the love of God."

Loving our neighbor and loving god and all his creations can be interpreted as making others happy.

In either event, that is what life means to me.

It only makes a positive impact in the world.

But what does life mean to you? Has my way of looking at things changed your mind?

42.

On a more serious note, for me, the purpose of life is to make the world a better place for everyone. :D If competition is too much, why not turn it around and cooperate? Easier said than done, but hey, the power of positivity!

Also to explore nature itself, I guess. In life, there's nothing better than hiking in a forest (in a morning or afternoon, mind you), hearing the sweet sounds of nature.

And I also want to earn a good amount of cash, then along the way, I will use said money to buy stationeries (books, pens, pencils, etc) and provide education for the poor kids in rural parts of Myanmar. Everyone deserves to learn and be educated, to enjoy life itself. :P

And you too, Herp! Have a nice day, my friend.

Well to keep it short: We don't know, and probably never will.

The thing is, we all havea different opinion on what "meaning" is. Is it to finish a goal, or is it to die. These questions are so damn hard to come to a conclusion on with everyone, that we usually end up slugging it out.

Personally for me: To help society out. ITs that simple, so that's why I put my life into sharing and so on. No im not a damn commie. Oh, and family and education.

Good day habibi Herp, hope to see you around.

I believe the meaning of life is to learn and explore, but also to love all (enemies, friends, etc.) and live the love of God in people's lives through Christ.
'Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.' (II Timothy 4:1-5 NKJV)

Meaning would imply a purpose imbued by a creator, but we have no concrete evidence for a creator let alone any indications as to what that meaning may be. Therefore, the overarching meaning of life, if any, is unknowable. The best we can do is to live a productive and virtuous existence.

I think our meaning of life is to just live our lives to the best we can. Live a long, good life, and make other's lives better at it.

Herp is trying hard at the latter end of that. Herp, I like ya, man.

I'm not sure there's a singular, predetermined meaning of life that we've all been given from birth... but if you asked me what I believe would amount to a meaningful life, I'd say a meaningful life would be one in which you (a) pursued your personal aspirations to the best of your ability, (b) enjoyed every healthy pleasure, big and small, you could, (c) cooperated with others to make your lives and the world around you at least a little bit better, and (d) sought a higher understanding of yourself and your place in the universe.

In a nutshell, love yourself and others, do what you can for a better world in which yourself and everyone else can live happily, and indulge your curiosity at every turn.

Fair enough. Being able to support something withiut feeling obliged to follow all of it is a mark of a sharp mind.

Finally someone who wont debate me about Islam, weather it be from making me more Islamic, to changing religion entirely. For example El-Amin Caliphate wanted to TG me when I said I personally dont like Theocracy. And he tried to change my political views on Sharia. but thanks for the compliment... Now back on track.

The meaning of life? That's deep.

For me, the meaning of life is to make at least one person's life a little bit better. That gives you a reason to exist.

So pretty much my life has no meaning. But most people's lives do.

I don't know you IRL can't say if you're right or not. But most people do at least small things that make someone else's life a little better. Often without knowing it.

Don't be so hard on yourself, in either case. The older you get, the more you'll have opportunities to make active choices to make lives better. Don't dismiss your own life as having no meaning.

For me, I don't know the meaning of life. I hope there is one. I think the closest I can get to a specific meaning is to try and have a positive impact on the people around me, to keep learning and finding things to enjoy, and to try not to wallow in regrets.
