ONLY WAR: THE TARVUS CLEANSING
A Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay

Image

It is the 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries The Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the Master of Mankind by the will of the gods, and master of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that he may never truly die.

Yet even in his deathless state, the Emperor continues his eternal vigilance. Mighty battlefleets cross the daemon-infested miasma of the Warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Astronomican, the psychic manifestation of the Emperor's will. Vast armies give battle in his name on uncounted worlds. Greatest amongst his soldiers are the Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines, bio-engineered super-warriors. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Imperial Guard and countless planetary defence forces, the ever vigilant Inquisition and the tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from aliens, heretics, mutants - and worse.

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.

999.M41 - The Tarvus System, a lonely outpost on the Eastern Fringe, has remained silent and uneventful for as long as any can remember. Largely untouched by the machinations of the burgeoning Tau Empire and the corrupting influences of the Ruinous Powers, it has merely existed, its few inhabited worlds dutifully paying the Imperial Tithe. However, in 903.M41, a classified object was discovered on the surface of the arid Frontier World Tarvus Secundus, and an Imperial Navy blockade has sat in high orbit of the planet ever since. The world was placed under immediate quarantine, with all travel on and off the planet restricted, leaving the few colonists on the surface to scrounge out a meagre existence in the shadows of the world's rocky bluffs and cliffs, unsupported by shipments of food and resources from the wider Imperium.

Over the course of the next few decades, Tarvus Secundus was almost forgotten, with the Navy ships in orbit gradually dispersing to deal with more pressing concerns, leaving only a minor blockade to secure the planet. The colonists on the surface eventually devolved into an almost feral state, with techno-barbarian tribes roaming the unforgiving landscape to war over the planet's extremely limited resources. Rumours across the system insisted that Mechanicus vessels of sable and crimson occasionally ventured down to the world, sometimes never to return. However, this state of inactivity soon changed, when in 997.M41, scout tendrils of the Tyranid Hive Fleet Leviathan were sighted on the edges of the Tarvus System. The entire Sector was placed under martial law, and the Navy blockade of Tarvus Secundus soon tripled in size. A year later, as the jaws of the Great Devourer finally closed in upon the system, hundreds of regiments of the Imperial Guard were shipped to Tarvus Secundus, charged with fighting off the hordes of the extra-galactic menace for long enough for the hidden agents of the Inquisition and Adeptus Mechanicus to pursue some classified agenda deep within the planet itself.

To the average soldier of the Astra Militarum, however, these lofty schemes and hidden projects were an utter irrelevancy. The planet of Tarvus Secundus became a living nightmare, being partially consumed by the Tyranids while the armadas of the Imperial Navy, anchored in high orbit, rained fire down upon the world's surface. Amidst this Chaos, the men of the Imperial Guard suffered, beset by alien enemies on all sides while struggling with incompetent commanders and conflicting orders. The arrival of a heretical fleet of the Word Bearers Traitor Legion mere weeks into the campaign only served to intensify the chaotic operation, with unending mobs of damned cultists descending upon the planet alongside disciplined ranks of superhuman warriors bearing the blessings of the Dark Gods themselves, hellbent on enacting their own grand designs upon Tarvus Secundus.

A DECENT TO PROFICIENT UNDERSTANDING OF THE LORE AND MECHANICS OF THE WARHAMMER 40,000 UNIVERSE IS REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS RP

Welcome to Only War: The Tarvus Cleansing. This roleplay will follow a rag-tag group of Imperial Guardsmen (a player will play a single character) who, after a particularly disastrous engagement, have been left stranded in Chaos territory. With both renegades and the Tyranids closing in, they must overcome their varying differences in order to survive and make it back to Imperial forces. With the harsh landscape being as unforgiving as it is, and no decent intel available, a map will not be provided for this RP, but the players are knowledgeable of the general direction they will have to travel in to make it back to the front.

- As OP I possess overarching authority over this RP.
- Bad behavior in the OOC will be punished according to how bad the behavior was.
- Godmodding will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
- Try to stay active in the OOC as well as the IC, and message me if you won't be able to post for a while.
- I expect everyone to make posts of decent quality. Posts don't necessarily need to be very lengthy, as you are only accounting for the actions of a single character, so no more than a couple of paragraphs should suffice.
- Being grim-dark is fine, but make sure everything is still in compliance with the Forum Rules in general. We want to enjoy the terrifying reality of the 41st Millennium without getting shut down, after all.
- Fun is mandatory for this RP. Have fun. Not having fun is heresy, and punishable by summary execution.

+++Subject: Danilov Mannerheim
+++Rank: Commissar
+++Age: 37
+++Gender: Male
+++Physical appearance: Height: 183 cm. Weight: 93 kg.
+++Identifying Marks: No tattoos. 2 Bionic fingers on left hand.

+++Nativity: Hive World Veris IV - Noble Birth
+++Guard Regiment: Officio Prefectus
+++Skills: Good tactical thinker, decent manipulator and politician. Excellent orator. Handy with a melee weapons, although he is not strong. Very knowledgeable on the enemies of mankind, how they operate and how to combat them.. Rigorously trained in most Imperial Combat Doctrines.
+++Personality: Generally amicable and not awfully demanding. Not what one would call a dominating presence. Normally happy to sit back and observe conversations and group dynamics before participating in discussion. Slightly naive, but is slowly developing a more hardened psyche as his limited experience grows. Tends to use Obscura and other drugs to work through traumatic experiences. Generally introverted persona, but does not balk at opportunities for leadership or adoping responsibilities if necessary. Despises the belief that brute force can overcome any issue, and often values soldiers with a great tactical or strategic acumen rather than physical or combat prowess.
+++Weaknesses: Physically quite weak, and quite a below average fighter. Less courageous than his fellows might prefer (by no means a coward, but not as absolutely fearless as a Commissar should be). Prone to ill health, though he often won't admit to it. Occasionally lacks confidence in social situations. Prone to bouts of melancholy and despondency. Unaccustomed to difficult living conditions, particularly in the field.
+++Likes and Dislikes: Particular fondness of certain illicit substances, such as Obscura. Hates Chaos and its influences.
+++Interests: Excellent Regicide player, enjoys card games. Has a keen interest in history, although looking too deeply into sensitive topics has led to a run-in with an Inquisitor in his past. A patron of the arts, who values poetry, sculpture and music in particular, even though he is a terrible artist himself.
+++Fears: Being corrupted by the Ruinous Powers.

+++Equipment:Bolt Pistol, Power Maul, Officio Prefectus Standard Carapace Armour, Commissar Uniform, Supply of Rations, Commissar Handbook, Purity Seal, A few Doses of Obscura, Injector, Microbead, Stablight (Torch), Flare.
+++Biography: Born the son of an minor Imperial Noble on the Hive World of Veris IV, Danilov Mannerheim was raised into a life of plenty and comfort. However, this all changed after a Chaos uprising on his home planet deposed the Planetary Administration. With his parents sacrificed in a great ritual to the Blood God himself, Mannerheim narrowly escaped capture, fleeing the world aboard a Mass Converyor shortly before the collapse of Imperial resistance. A naive but wealthy boy of fourteen years, he used his remaining financial assets and former connections to enlist into the Schola Progenium. An industrious and devoted student, he was trained in the arts of warfare, politics and oratory, along with being fully inducted into the ways of the Imperial Cult. Due to his noble birth, he was spared from the harsher parts of the curriculum, such as the frequent mind-wiping and harsh punishment of pupils. A quiet, reserved student, he excelled in his studies, and graduated to become a Commissar of the Officio Prefectus in 996.M41. Assigned to an infantry regiment of Valhallan Ice Warriors during the Siliar Xenocide, Mannerheim witnessed firsthand the horrors that the Imperial soldiery dealt with on a daily basis. Forever changed by his experience, he took it upon himself to motivate his men through speech and example, leading from the front as much as he could. While many would have seen this as a courageous act, he merely found it less terrifying to charge ahead of his men than to be forced to shoot them in the back. Surviving through a combination of luck and skill, despite his lack of martial prowess, he gained the respect of his men, and lived to see the end of the conflict, only having lost two fingers on his left hand to a Xenos blade. Seeing the injury as a sign of his growing confidence and experience in combat, he had the fingers replaced by crude bionics, rather than the elaborate synth-skin treatments favoured by other Imperial nobles and officers. Reassigned to the Tarvus Sector with a division of Cadian Shock Troops, his resolve began to harden, and the grueling conflict to follow would see many of his fears turn to pure, unadulterated hatred towards the enemies of man. Thus, Mannerheim now sets out to fight those who had taken away his family and his life of comfort with a newfound fury, while still maintaining his sympathies for the common soldier, who he perceives as far braver than him, despite all his conditioning and specialised training.

+++Subject: Adonai Parrington
+++Rank: Enginseer
+++Age: 170
+++Gender: Male
+++Physical appearance: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/the ... 0121160145
+++Identifying Marks: Imperial Aquilia tattooed onto his chest.

+++Nativity: Forge World of Shorix W48
+++Guard Regiment: Tech-Priest of the Adeptus Mechanicus, assigned to a guard unit on Tarvus due to clerical error. Now stranded behind enemy lines.
+++Skills: Through training with the rites needed to maintain imperial war machines, and close-quarters combat training
+++Personality: Zealous in his belief in the Omnissiah as the father of all technology, and the God-Emperor as his physical manifestation.
+++Weaknesses: Puts the well being of the machine spirits of the Imperium above his own and others he fights with.
+++Likes and Dislikes: hates tyranids (organic mockery of machines and any disrespect to the Omnissiah or his spirits.
+++Interests: Dreams of finding lost technology of humanities dark age,
+++Fears: Being captured by members of the Dark Mechanicus
+++Equipment: Cybernetic arms, Biotic eye enhancers, one Mechadendrite, Omnissian Power Axe, Laz-pistol
+++Biography:
Born on the Forge world of Shorix Adonai was raised collectively with the other children of the foundry. They were raised in the worship of the Machine God and the ways he demanded service. Going into a young man he was drawn to the path of Enginseer, he also began his indoctrination into a sect of the Cult that took the compromise between the Admech and the wider Imperium, that the God-Emperor was the physical embodiment of the Machine God, and fervently believed in its truth. This sect soon proved problematic for the leaders of the forge world as they often questioned the prevailing thought in the planets administration. Rather then risk civil war in purging them the forge world manipulated the results of the recruitment lot and set much of the cult into the Imperial Guard.

Adonai would relish these first few decades fighting the enemies of man with the guard. After over a century of war and half-dozen different regiments a clerical error saw him assigned to a little known regiment. This regiment would soon be sent to Tarvus to defend the planet from the tyranid swarm. Now he finds himself one of the only survives and trapped behind enemy lines.

+++Identifying Marks: (they're convicts, former prisoners, so I figured a tattoo culture would be pretty prominent with them) Tattoos: Blood Type (B+) on left collarbone, four small skulls on right collarbone (4 times wounded), Crossed Lasguns on left bicep (Service with Rifle company), three knives across lower left arm (3 hand to hand engagements), 12 tally marks over heart (confirmed kill count), HOLD FAST across knuckles (Convict founding tradition stolen from Navy Voidsmen, intent is to remind them to hold the line), Skeletal fish facing upright on right side torso (Navy tattoo, exposed to void), ropes around both wrists (holding him down while in the warp, keeping him grounded in battle), three cards of the Tarot across lower back(Upright Crusader, Reversed Astronomican, Upright Soldier), a 22 with the crossed fingers horizontal underneathe on outer side of right arm (22 is the unluckiest number in Gulani superstition), Aquila across upper back, 5 stars on right pectoral (5 warzones), his own dog tag on his right ankle in case of major limb loss and a dogtag on right bicep (dogtags for one Everett Amallovieta, in memory of)

+++Nativity: Gulani. A jungle planet that's really more of a forest planet with a lot of rain (think the Pacific North West of the US) its population is clustered in six small hives across the planets single large continent refining the ores from the ocean floor. Those who don't live in the Hives (~34% of the population) live clustered in either highland valleys of verdant lowland pastures.
+++Guard Regiment: Original contingent was chosen from those seeking to escape moderate length sentences. Originally slated to be an Airborne Regiment, it was changed to Light Infantry in-transit when the carrier containing the transports was lost to the Warp. Since then they've maintained this operational standard, applying Airborne skills to work as light shock infantry with a specialty in Urban operations, exploiting gaps and pressing ahead to gain a foothold heavier units can use.

  • First aid training
  • Explosives training
  • Ground (tracked) vehicle qualified
  • Radio protocol
  • Navigation

  • Air Assault Qualified
+++Personality: Typically non-plussed and laid back, Warren is the kind of guy you want leading your squad. His "go get 'em" attitude has gradually faded away and now he just wants to survive, and he'll be more than happy if his buddies get to make it with him.
+++Weaknesses: Cares more about his men than the mission, general distrust of foreign priests, vocal in his disagreement with certain aspects of plans.
+++Likes and Dislikes: Likes: Warm Recaf, a dry place to sleep, the first Lho stick of the day, a full 8 hours of sleep.
Dislikes: Sleeping in wet clothes, being in a trench at all, the enemy having fire superiority, regimental rivalry grox shit.
+++Interests: Scrumball (think Gridiron and Rugby), cooking, whatever card game he can get in on.
+++Fears: Dying, being unable to muster out and start over like he was promised, people who trust him to lead them dying, the Emperor and his ancestors not forgiving him for his crimes, and spiders. Khet spiders.

+++Biography:
An underhive isn't the place to raise a child, in some Hives a kid is lucky if they see their teens in the damp and toxic pits of a Hives guts. Warren was lucky though, he made it. His parents weren't special, they were Grinweed addicts and alcoholics. He wasn't saved by circumstance either, he lived in one of the worst habs in the underhive. It wasn't even anything he did that kept him alive, he picked fights too often against people he was bound to lose to. No, the only thing that saved Warren Gardiazabal was luck. Or rather his ancestors. Someone was looking out for him because he made it: ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, he saw them all and was alive and healthy, for the given value that a person in the underhive can be healthy.

He fell in with a gang when he turned twelve, originally a runner passing messages from boss to boss in the maze-like tunnels of the hives guts, he moved up as he grew up. At 16 he was given a stub gun and a target, Irene Goicoerrotea. He didn't know who she was, it didn't matter either way, his Zaharrenaren had marked her for death and he was going to be his Zaharrenaren's will. He prayed to his ancestors, he begged them to bless his warrior spirit and in doing so, lift himself out of the horror that was this life he led. The words were said, candles lit, blood given both animal and his own, he was as prepared as he was ever going to be.

Warren had to walk to the home of his target, a Hab even worse than his own. It had long ago been condemned by the Hive Building Authority, slated to be torn down long ago but forgotten in the paperwork as was so common down here. The walls were damp and moldy from pipes that had burst, animals lay butchered in the halls, the habs denizens catching anything foolish enough to be caught, and the unmistakable smell of humans living in their own squalor and waste. It took Warren the better part of the day to find her, going from drug den to drug den, beating the broken, mutated addicts to find his mark.

And finally, he did finally find her. She was sequestered in the top room of the hab, what passed in that place as a penthouse, surrounded by picts and items that hinted at a once more opulent life. Didn't matter. She didn't beg when she saw him walking up, she didn't say a word at all to the scrawny teen with a gun held unsteadily in front of him marched up, any hope of stealth gone in his nervous desire to just do the job and be gone. She let him walk right up to him, she was filthy and broken, a smile that had probably once been beautiful cracked and the grime and dust that coated her face did as well, she hadn't spoken in a long time.

"Do it." Was all she said.

Could he do it? He had beaten people before, threatened them with death or worse, but he realized that threats were all those were. In that moment he realized he couldn't take her life, something in him wouldn't pull the trigger. Her smile turned to a snarl.

"Do it you little Khet!"

Warren began to shiver, he couldn't go back to the only home he knew if she wasn't dead, but he couldn't pull the trigger, he couldn't kill this woman-

She moved faster than she had any right to, just-to-long arms with spindly fingers shooting upwards to grab hold of his hand, she forced his finger on the trigger. Warren can't forget that moment, he couldn't for a long time as it played out nightly in his dreams. The reds of her blood and the sickly grey of her brain matter flew backward, the large caliber bullet caved her face inward, the bullet had struck her square in the face and all that was left was a meat wound. Warren lost control of his stomach, vomitting until nothing was left, dry heaving painfully.

It didn't take long for the Sheriff's Marshalls to find him, hiding in his tiny hab in the dark. Irene Goicoerrotea was actually Vanessa Zumala, a member of the venerable Zumala family. The charge against him wasn't because he had killed her, not officially anyway, but Clan Zumala forced the trial because Warren had killed Vanessa before Clan Zumala had. She was a rogue psyker on top of an addict, her penthouse had been filled with the trappings of a witch. Zumala was brought to the attention of the Inquisition and by the next Gulani Solar Year the house had been brought to ruin.

Warren was sent to Gulani's seagoing mining fleet, part volunteer and part slave labor, Warren live out the remaining years of his youth in an ill-fitting diving suit drilling ore out of the dark seabed praying to his ancestor spirits and the Emperor far away that the beasts that lived deep in Gulani's oceans didn't decide he was good prey. But on his twentieth birthday, he got the best present of all: a way out. The Imperium had come to collect its tithe, five regiments ready for battle. Convicts whose crimes were deemed moderate were given the opportunity to join, no doubt the work of Gulani's influential Priesthood. Warren jumped at the chance to join, to get away from the cramped cell decks of the mining ships. The selection process was rigorous using medicae's and acts bordering on psychological torture used to root out those convicts too weak to take the training ahead.

He and the other volunteer criminals were formed into an Airborne unit, a regiment the Gulani Government couldn't find enough volunteers to fill its ranks. They trained to jump deep behind enemy lines and holding vital objectives and forming assaults from behind enemy lines. Training went well, the new Guardsmen knew exactly what they had been offered and they, Warren included, threw themselves into their work. During this time their Ratling allies arrived, and though tensions initially ran high a common ground was found in their mutual status as outsiders among the more standard regiments.

Nine Standard Terran Months after training had begun, the 28th Gulani Airborne boarded their transport, a small bulk freighter requisitioned from the fleet of a Charist Captain. The trip for Warren and his Regiment was easy, easier than usual in fact with few troubles reported. The Defiant-Class light cruiser holding their Valkiery transports was lost to the Warp, which remains lost to this day. With their transports lost their doctrine changed on the fly. Warren proved himself well in combat, he had a cool head having become used to violence in the tribe-like world of the Ore Ships, but bonded quickly with his squadmates. He was quickly given fireteam command during their first tour of action, proving himself a valuable second to his Sergeant able to both be a source of support for the men and a lack of fear in questioning the plans of their non-convict leaders, Sergeant included.

He has maintained an exemplary record in the Guard, proving himself a strong leader and acceptable Guardsmen.

Originally founded as an Air Assault Regiment, the idea was scrapped when their valkyries were lost mid-transit through the warp. Their specialty was changed on landing and their light equipment load and malleable logistics were found to make them ideal candidates for something the leadership in-theater had been considering for a while. The War the 28th landed in was a stalemate, two local forces had ground themselves into trench warfare and competent cultists had arrived the same time the Guard did, raising the destructive power but keeping the stalemate. The idea was that Elements of the 28th would break up into Company size formations and very closely follow a sudden barrage of heavy artillery fire after the artillery had been silent for a week. Using this for cover they would assault into the trenches and create small pockets were the heavier, and slower, infantry could make their way in and begin clearing the trenchworks proper.

The idea worked, and the 28th were dubbed "Light Shock Infantry". In that vein, they were given a small number of tanks and Chimeras to act as a spearpoint element when needed, as well as a large number of APC's and 1-Ton Trucks of a pattern local to the subsector. The 28th LSI would see a dozen warzones before they were finally declared combat ineffective. Luckily for them they were close to home, only two months away. Leave was granted and the astropathic message sent to Gulan, a second founding would take place, a founding to bring the 28th's numbers back up.

Instead of Convicts, there were few who would take up the offer, the planetary Government decided instead on the tribesmen of the highlands and lowlands. Gulan is notionally a developed world, it produces agriculture and goods enough to pay it's dues, but there are large swathes of it's sole large continent that remain seperated from civilization purposfully. The Highland and Lowland villagers don't believe in the cities ways, but they pay their dues in livestock and are always on time so the Government leaves them be. Recently though there had been problems. Their pastoral way of life mixed with access to modern amenities and medicine meant that their population was exploding. Violence between clans was becoming regular and blood feuds spilled over into all-out wars more often than not.

So the Governor and the assembled leaders of the strongest Clans came to an agreement: a quarter of the tithes paid in livestock for a decade if they could raise the men needed. The people would have food, the violence would end with the crowding, it was a deal to everyone's benefit. The message spelled out that the 28th were now light infantry, and the replacements were equipped and trained as such, expecting to be looked on with pride by those they would join.

This didn't happen.

The veteran's of the 28th were weary of the kids in the too-clean fatigues, they had seen too many boys eager for war get themselves and others killed. The Replacements were outraged that the contingent of Ratlings, abhumans, received better treatment than they did by the veterans. Fights became common, hazing was endemic, and the commissars could do little but crack the whip even harder when two murders sprung up.

But it's been five planets now, five warzones, and tensions have finally begun to settle in the 28th LSI

Original contingent was chosen from those seeking to escape moderate length sentences. Originally slated to be an Airborne Regiment, it was changed to Light Infantry in-transit when the carrier containing the transports was lost to the Warp. Since then they've maintained this operational standard, applying Airborne skills to work as light shock infantry, exploiting gaps and pressing ahead to gain a foothold heavier units can use.

Perhaps consider adding a bit more detail, but otherwise, approved.

Went around and stamped out uprisings with brutal efficiency, although it steadily lost troops to attrition. Became official 'regiment' after Imperial reinforcements arrived and quelled the uprising.

-Fighting Tyranids, the polar opposite of Necrons
-makes a character dedicated to killing Necrons
-ALSO: Guard Regiment not named, you just named the entirety of the Imperial Guard, a Regiment is a group of Soldiers raised from an Imperial World.
-ALSO: No Guardsman uses Power Armor or Pulse Rifles, those are Astartes and Tau tech respectively, and the Inquisition and Mechanicus would hunt this character down.
-ALSO: You can't kill a Necron, you can only keep the Tin-Cans down for so long until they either teleport out of battle or are teleported out of battle when the rest of the Necron Force retreats.

On the one hand, I enjoy a good 40K RP and this clearly has parts of my own previous RP in it.

On the other hand, I always saw Only War as first and foremost a means to create characters for the other Fantasy Flight 40K RPs or an opportunity to basically make The Dirty Dozen in 40K, so I'm not sure if I'm actually interested here.

+++Subject: Alvus Melindrake (Drake after the Subterranean creature on Cepulitera)
+++Rank: Gunner/Mechanic
+++Age: 34
+++Gender: Male
+++Physical appearance: Wears equipment/outfit that looks like a hybrid between the Death Korps of Krieg and the Valhallan Ice Warriors, is 6'2, and weighs 246 pounds
+++Identifying Marks: Mechanical arm

+++Nativity: Cepulitera, Civilized Ice World.
+++Guard Regiment: 22nd Cepuliteran Artillery Corps (App below this one)
+++Skills: Maintaining and Operating Artillery, Aiming, Survival in wilderness
+++Personality: Rather jovial for someone whose home city was pulled into an Ice Fissure, he mourns on the inside for his lost parents. When in combat he has the coldness of a machine, on multiple occasions literally snapping the necks of the enemy or punching in their skulls without remorse.
+++Weaknesses: Mechanical arm can be shorted out, not well-versed in front-line combat.
+++Likes and Dislikes: Likes the cold, thunder, and alcohol. Dislikes heat, erratic combat, swimming.
+++Interests: Engineering, Siegework (Local game back on Cepulitera, similar to Regicide, but with five players and more complex rules.)
+++Fears: Darkness, Heights (barely keeps calm on Transports and manning emplacements on Hive City walls), the Sea

+++Equipment: 1x Toolkit for quick field repairs on guns, 1x M36 Kantarel lasgun (4 mags), Mechanical arm (Welder and Claw attachments optional), Flak Armor, Mask, Hunting Knife, bottle of Rahzvod.
+++Biography:
One of the few Non-vat grown Cepuliteran Artillerymen, Alvus is one of the few survivors of the Ice-Fissure that destroyed his home city. It has been weird serving alongside vat-grown comrades, but he wasn't complaining about the sudden increase in performance, plus Cepulitera was too busy rebuilding from the Shift to raise a full regiment. He still mourns the loss of his family and Comrades, who were among those pulled into the fissures or crushed between glaciers. He and a part of the 22nd were transported to Tarvus in order to give Artillery Support.

Regiment
Name: Cepuliteran 20th Artillery Corps
Class: Imperial Guard
Recruitment: Vat-Grown, Cupulitera's population is too low to raise a regiment, so they compensated.
Homeworld: Cepulitera, Civilized world
Homeworld Terrain: Ice World
Primary Unit: Artillery
Specialization: Ranged Combat (You don't say?)
Loyalty: Fanatical, their vat-grown nature and fierce indoctrination protocols makes them near-overzealous in their loyalty to the God-Emperor, but not as suicidal in their tactics as other regiments such as the Death Korps.
Special Equipment: Preferred Fighting style
Regiment Creed: For the Emperor
Regiment Friends: Imperial Guard (Catachan)
Regiment Enemies: Daemon Prince/other disciple of chaos

Background: The 20th Artillery Corps is a regiment dedicated to Artillery Support of other regiments, originally founded after a sudden shift in Cepulitera's ice layer destroyed almost 80% of all surface infrastructure, lowering the population to a point where Vat-grown soldiers were the only option for raising a regiment. They are skilled in operating and handling almost all forms of artillery and other long range weapons and are known for their brutal strategies regarding bombardment: a slowly moving curtain of fire that demolishes most buildings, meant as a deterrent to advancing enemies as the hail of shells is almost non-stop.

(I can go into detail on Cepulitera's "Shift" if needed)

Updated Regiment Application

Made some tweaks to the name of the regiment, their uniforms, and general specialty. Also formatting it according to the new template.

14th Alpheage Grenadier Guards - "Graecei" (High Gothic), "Greeks" (Low Gothic)
Regiment Origin: New muster awaiting its first campaign in order to meet updated tithes.
Regiment Demographics: All male. Largely composed of the poorer elements of Alphian society.
Nature of Recruitment: Alpheage uses conscription as its means of recruitment, drawing from a "randomized" lottery to muster regiments. The lottery is said to be heavily skewed to choose sons of the poor, however.
Home World: Alpheage-- a civilized, desert world with little reknown save for its miserly junk traders.
Home World Terrain: Rolling deserts, dotted intermittently by solar-powered cities.
Regiment Core Units:
1st Battalion
Alpha Company (Riflemen)
Bravo Company (Riflemen)
Charlie Company (Riflemen)
Delta Company (Heavy Weapons)
2nd Battalion
Echo Company (Riflemen)
Foxtrot Company (Riflemen)
Golf Company (Riflemen)
Hotel Company (Heavy Weapons)
3rd Battalion
Indie Company (Riflemen)
Juliet Company (Riflemen)
Kilo Company (Riflemen)
Lima Company (Heavy Weapons)
Service Support Company
Anti-Tank Company
Regiment Specialization:Shock & Awe
Loyalty Level: Undisciplined. Though they are well-equipped and trained, the regiment severely lacks discipline and morale. The 14th has been regarded as a "boy's club" by many of its homeworld officials, enough so to arouse the scrutiny of the Officio Prefectus. As a result, the ratio of Commissars to soldiers within this regiment is abnormally high as of recent.
Special Equipment: x6 Autocannons, x6 Lascannons, x3 Mortars
Regiment Creed: "For Alpheage, Our Arms Never Slacken." (For the Homeworld)
Brief Backstory: The men of the 14th Alpheage Grenadiers, unlike many of its fellow Imperial Guard regiments, did NOT earn their nickname, the "Greeks", in combat. This fact alone is very telling of the unit.

The moniker of "Greeks" was attributed to the 14th by a multitude of other regiments and homeworld officials who were remarking on the unit's obsession with the human body. In an oddly tribalistic fashion, all of the members of the 14th boast hardened, muscular bodies from long hours spent in base gyms, and strive to resemble the aesthetically pleasing ancient statues forged from granite. So excessive is their vanity that new recruits (especially those that are out of shape) reportedly undertake grueling hazing rituals involving forced starvation, exercise and extended periods of verbal assault by current members. Additionally, members of the 14th have been accused of dosing themselves with chemicals of all kinds in a likely futile effort to achieve their goals quicker.

As if cultlike practices weren't enough of an embarrassment, the 14th has yet to be blooded in a campaign, being a fairly new muster compared to some of Alpheage's older troop contributions. Outraged at their insubordinate behavior and gross misuse of Departmento Munitorum resources, the powers-that-be have sought to ship out the regiment as soon as possible, hoping that if they are not forged into a true fighting force through conflict, that they be utterly annihilated on some distant front line.

Admittedly, I have no idea how to format posts on this forum, and I’ve never really run an RP before, so I did lean on your Dark Heresy RP posts a lot. My apologies. I’ve given it the Only War name, but I don’t even think we’ll be using the FFG system. Anyway, thanks for giving it a look all the same. We need more 40k RPs on NS.

This is taking place in 999.M41, so Cadia still stands (but not for long now, sadly). Since we’re on the Eastern Fringe, far from Cadia, a regiment of Cadians could have been sent here years ago, before the 13th Black Crusade even started.

Will post character sheet soon.

+++Biography:

+++Biography:

  • Regimental Motorpool (No Letter Designation (a number of unarmored and lightly armored 1-Ton Six Wheel Transport Trucks, as well as a number of older APC's used for Shock Assaults)

I got bored and added a small section for his badges, pins, and decorations. Figured anyone serving for 8 years and surviving has to be getting some recognition for something.

I may have gone too far in some places.

You should be alright. Badges and honours are distributed on a regimental basis, so this particular regiment could feasibly have all these honours.

This is taking place in 999.M41, so Cadia still stands (but not for long now, sadly). Since we’re on the Eastern Fringe, far from Cadia, a regiment of Cadians could have been sent here years ago, before the 13th Black Crusade even started.

BY THE EMPEROR'S WILL, CADIA STILL STANDS!

Understood.
Are YOU an enemy of HYDRA?
Pro & Anti
This is an ALTERNATE UNIVERSE HYDRA; It was not the Nazi science division nor does it worship Hive, who does not exist in this universe. Please read the factbooks before making ignorant comments chocking it down to "Nazi Cultists".
