Nudism is definitely legal, but whether or not someone practices it depends on a few things, the first of which being temperature and weather. If it is really humid, then people will go completely naked except for footwear (we don't want our feet getting dirty). If it's rainy, than people just go naked and take an umbrella with them. If it's windy, people will wear just enough to keep them warm. Also, if some has a job like a firefighter, policeman, or surgeon, than they need clothing to protect them.

On a socio-cultural level, the Lykosian influenced prevalent Selian culture and the remnants of Selian culture still influenced by non-Lykosian origins, nudity and nudism are natural controversies.

Whilst artworks and sculptures designed specifically to encapsulate the male or the female form are often depicted fully or partially nude, the Selians tend to associate nudity with vulnerability, and in the case of women, partial nudity also. Nudity renders the entirety of oneself to be scrutinised at sight, the most powerful of the senses. In essence, public nudity is seen as being visually penetrated, though this is not the fault of the onlooker. At auctions, slaves are often presented deprived of clothing in order to properly designate them as things and objects, with no legitimacy to conceal from their freeborn counterparts. During the festival of Ephyralia, the women of the sisterhood cult, the Virgins of Lysharar, perform ritual unclothing before the priests of the god Nalarion and his statue.

Nudity isn't therefore culturally humiliating by simply being exposed, but degrading in the sense of being subjected to violation with the eyes, with protection against violation being the core of citizenship. This is much a class issue, as the citizens of the Freehold do not tend to respond in any manner to nudity in slaves or provincials or foreigners, whom they consider to be foreign savages and barbarians with no sense of clothing or of moral virtue. Citizens who go into public naked may be subject to an arrest for an offence against public morality, as will foreigners in colonial provinces, colonial cities, and the heartland itself, but outside of these areas is the Ephyral Empire, where such laws typically aren't enforced for a simple lack of interest.

In women, the exposure of the breasts is acceptable for things such as breastfeeding, though discretion is encouraged. In popular art, literature, and in actual practice, the tearing of the dress to reveal the breasts is regarded as a plea of vulnerability and mercy for women, a reminder to any attacker that there is no honour in harming them. Such exposure is also common in grief.

It is the citizen's right to protect him or herself from subjection to visual penetration of his or her naked body by others, and in fact, the forced disrobing of another citizen is a more serious crime than nudity itself. To unclothe a citizen in public (or even in private though this is less serious) who has invited no such thing is considered a violation of their rights as a citizen of the Freehold. To do so to an official position declared sacrosanct, such as an Archon, Elder Priest of the College, or the Peoples' Tribune, is an act of treason punishable by death, whilst lesser officials such as Praetors, High Priests, Priests, and other assorted positions, is regarded as a highly serious offence punishable by imprisonment.

There is no shame or taboo in nudity before your spouse, and in certain religious and customary rituals, but moral citizens remain decent in public, and do not attempt to subvert another citizen's practice of doing so.
