Terrorism hits a new low

For months now, terrorism has been declining.
The Red Dragon especially have stopped any activity but raids against them still occur.

GFA Qualifier Opens with Northeastern Gael Dominance

Image

NOLON CITY, NORONICA

The opening match of the North Gael Conference has shown a strong dominance of its eastern members, starting with a 2 - 0 game from Noronica in Nolon City, opening the path for them to join the international football contest that is the 2018 Western Isles Cup. The game started at 18:00 to much fanfare as it was the opening game of the year, with fireworks and jubilant singing of the respective national anthems. Initially, the game looked to be in favor of the Agadarian Men's National Team as Ben Walsh, right midfielder, challenged Martin McBain with the first on goal attempt. Favor soon turned to the home team as Duncan McGreg, center midfielder, of the Noronica National Football Team, secured the first goal at 18'.

After that, Noronica held on to the game solidly with Farquhar McKay, forwards, grabbing the second goal at 29' with expert maneuvering through the Agadarian backfield. From there, the match went back and forth between the two teams for a while longer until Agadarian Defender John Davis was sent off with a Red Card after tackling Tomas Hugo and nearly breaking his knee. Davis, as a result, will not be allowed to further compete during the qualifiers but will be allowed to return if Agadar qualifies to fight for the Western Isles Cup.

POROHARE, OSTEHAAR

As halftime began in Nolon, Porohare began their pre-game festivities with fanfare unique to Ostehaar as they prepared to take on Michigonia. In addition to the classic festivities, Porohare Stadium held a moment of silence for the members of the Oster Armed Forces involved in operations defending Orsandia from communist terrorists. As soon as the game started, it was evident that the Oster's, plenty of them Lindastir Daarem players who came back from Kotapura with the GFA Champions Cup, would dominate the tone and speed of the game.

It didn't take long until Mark Gaalgriner started to make a name for himself by tearing up the Michigonian defense 11 minutes in. Michigonia would gain control two minutes later and then followed it up with a goal by Ile-de-Avillon's starting Center Midfielder Rijle Kopma. Unfortunately, that'd be among the last instances Michigonia maintained control over the ball as Ostehaar's offense gathered itself back and went to work.

The work of winning was easy for Ostehaar as Ehdar Si Gruhn scored 19 minutes later on a demoralized Michigonian defense, securing a simple 2-1 Oster victory. Not to be outdone, the star of the Oster National Team, Ari Vehes, scored soon after halftime ended. 65 minutes in, Roggerdam's Evan Rainey had to be substituted by Andre Keaton after a hamstring injury, but not before he gave the Osters a brick wall to fight through. His loss was felt but ten minutes later as Gaalgriner brought the entire stadium to a roar with his second goal of the game.

A brief interruption was caused as the stadium could not calm down for three minutes, forcing the ref's to eventually extend the game into extra time, which proved only to be of the benefit to the Osters as team captain Daar Brikner ended the game with Ostehaar's fifth and final goal of the game, leaving Michigonian fans in a rather poor state. Celebrations in Porohare are continuing at full strength at this time, though Oster tradition (particularly the first point of the Blue Path) held at Porohare International Airport, where the Michigonian fans were treated to camaraderie by Oster guests and staff before returning home.

DOMESTIC: June Sprawl - Who’s doing what?
Arnton, Ainslie

It’s that time of the year again, and by now we know what most businesses are doing for their june sprawl. For those not yet accustomed with the now solidified Ahnslen tradition met with equally iconic cynicism, the June Sprawl is where businesses increase their contributions to community and social projects in an effort to improve their Community and Social Involvement score, in order to lower the amount of tax they need to pay in July. In accordance with the Community and Social Involvement Tax Act 2006, the rating is created at the end of June. As a result in order to “evade” tax, many businesses begin projects in June.

So, let’s get to the businesses.

Kenaris Airlines has helped evacuation efforts in Xrevaro, Athara Magarat and Orsandia announcing that it will foot the bill for the citizens it evacuated from these nations throughout the past year.

Lucas Mussen of Mussen Tech has announced a “significant commitment” to improving Wi-Fi connections in Malagwi at a heavily subsidised rate. Mussen will lay some of the first fibre optic cables in the nation, dramatically improving the connection of the nation to the rest of the Isles.

Multinational supermarket chain Kernai announced earlier this month that they will donate money to well-respected International Parks and Nature Organisation with the vision of improving facilities in the Turvin Mountains, a region of Thuzbekistan. This will facilitate the creation of a large national park in the nation.

Fortitude Conglomerated has contracted Samuderan green energy firm Dharmasraya to build a large wind farm on the west coast of Weinam in conjunction with local authorities and Ahnslen technology firm Mussen Tech.

Oster nuclear energy consortium OCES renewed its commitment to the education and training facility it has near its plant in Menindai.

Ahnslen medical research, technology and healthcare firm Armex International has announced that they are working in conjunction with the Svalbardian Government in order to provide influenza vaccines to “vulnerable and at risk” individuals through government programs. These vaccines will be sold and administered at heavily subsidised rates.

It is likely that more businesses over the coming days will announce their community projects. More to come on that.

OPINION: Is it time for an Ahnslen approach to constructing democracies?
University of Norlands - Arborai.

An article from the Servator in late March drove the conversation around the faculty at UNA for many days - the one called “Democracy should be consigned to the bins of history”. All of a sudden, it appeared to pop up in practically every essay I saw… from philosophy lecturers handing it to me for my opinion to international studies students reflecting on global trends.

It was, to me, a real treat to read and certainly a great article that allowed many students at the University to use their abstract knowledge and apply it. So, it would only be right of me to return the favour to our learned Alteran friends and express my opinion - one formed from observation of many discussions on campus as well as in the reading of many papers.

The article sets out the question Can there really be a case for democracy as we know it? The first point that needs to be established is what do we see as a democracy and what experiences have led us to this certain image we see in our heads? The image will differ from nation to nation - Keveraites could see it as a more aristocratic and conservative, perhaps even bureaucratic and somewhat dysfunctional whereas Covonantians may see it as a reflection of an adversarial legal system, with the judge being the people of the nation. Gressians, if this article gets to them, may see democracy at its roots - the ability of citizens to directly bring up their concerns with their friends and family whom with they can make a real difference.

I believe it is only fair to look at this article from the perspective of a Covonantian style of democracy - it is indeed the most common form of democracy in the Isles. That’s the issue - it’s about the form of democracy… not the democracy itself. The fluctuations of Mesderian democracies can be linked to the very pendulum of their own governments, parties from opposition to ruling and vice versa - it is when these jarring and sharp fluctuations synchronise across a region that we see some of the most regrettable times in history. The liberals overthrowing the authoritarians… the people realising that liberalism has its shortfallings… the authoritarians get voted back in. It is the sheer opposition of ideologies and this adversarial style of conducting politics which leads to this dangerous cycle. It is that very cycle which triggers the following question by Fufia Lucanus.

“But if democracies are so stable, why do people continue to rise against them?”

It is also important to note that democracy as ‘we know it’ is not a representation of all people - rather a representation of at best around 50% of the population if we’re talking about the preferential system of voting. Can we truly call this a democracy as we know it - a government form which effectively represents around 50% of the population’s wishes?

“Democracy has always had its critics, but now old doubts are being treated with renewed respect as the weaknesses of democracy in its strongholds in Miklania, Vancouvia, Ainslie and Covonant, and the fragility of its influence elsewhere”

It is that weakness which is described so eloquently here - but it is indeed odd that the author chose to lump in Ainslie with nations such as Miklania, Vancouvia and Covonant. I believe this is odd because the Ahnslen democracy is so unique that it is only vaguely recognisable as a democracy when one looks at the system in a deeper and more analytical light. Perhaps the author is not too well acquainted with the nature of The Ahnslen Model because their judgment of the Ahnslen political situation and the likening of it to the other three democracies is simply inaccurate. The Ahnslen democracy is thriving off of what it has built for itself - the Ahnslen Model, and as such has not been caught in many of the foundational drawbacks that have led to the major weaknesses of conventional democracies

The Ahnslen Model is not perfect. It has its own drawbacks but it does address much of the issues we see with more run of the mill democracies in The Western Isles and it has resulted in the Ahnslen Democracy thriving and innovating in its addressing of fundamental problems whilst resolving the problems of the present. Perhaps it is the Ahnslen Model which has maintained the “forward momentum” of the Ahnslen democracy despite the generalistic comments of the author.

It is important to remember the history of the Ahnslen Model and a quote from the author of this article is frighteningly similar to the the thought which stimulated the creation of the Ahnslen Model. The author asks the question:

“Perhaps the enemy of democracy, is democracy itself?”

Let’s dive deeper into this quote and expand a word or two by using its definition.

“Perhaps the enemy of the power of the people, is the power of the people itself?”

The Ahnslen Model is based off the objective fact which was only mentioned prominently in the 1940s by former Prime Minister Adante Renavai:

“Objectivity in the phase of public discontent is the most powerful force in maintaining stable, sane democracies.”

People by their very nature are biased towards certain ideals. This bias leads to one of two things: an oppressed underclass forming or a pendulum like cycle of representative democracy. Idealism is controlled through rationalism in Ainslie, due to the concept of the “parliamentary consensus” in Ainslie - this is where the majority party seeks to negotiate to the point that bills receive large majorities when they are eventually passed.

This compromise leads to objective benefit for the Ahnslen people and prevents the cycle of representative democracies because it is the compromising nature of politicians in Ainslie which has decreased the risk of disillusionment and dissatisfaction of the Ahnslen people towards their elected representatives and has stopped such dramatic change in the government. There is not significant mistrust in the government because such a wide tent of greedy idealism loses to the concept of compromise and long term benefit in the Ahnslen democracy in comparison to more conventional democracies. For example, Ainslie has been under conservative or centrist rule for decades yet the centre-leftist idea of advancing science and technology in a quite liberal manner has led to the innovative and prosperous Ahnslen economy. There is no way ACEGAD, the ruling party, could have built this in the eight years they have been in office so far and the conservatives would not have built this policy on their own accord.

A minority party inspired centre right and conservative policy. The current Ahnslen welfare system was a result of a slightly modified plan by a minority party. Greed is left at the door in the Parlai. It is a place where compromise occurs, where benefiting the majority slightly is far more important than benefiting the minority in a way that could be viewed as excessive.

The unique influence of the judicial system on the parliament and social values and attitudes has created the Ahnslen democracy - an objective, compromise-centric democracy which portrays the outcome of a different means to an end. A democracy tailored without fear to the long term values and beliefs of the people it seeks to represent to avoid the growth of certain harmful short term ways of thinking.

Democracy as we know it should remain to an extent. It should be the democracy the people know they deserve - the one that tailors itself to the needs of the people within its current structures. Democracy as people know is floored most of the time by a stock standard legislature. It is not a matter of whether it should be removed or not. Rather, it should be left to the long term sculpting skills of the people it advocates for - just as it has done in Ainslie. A conventional democracy is typically reflective of the structures implemented many years ago. The Ahnslen democracy is a malleable sculpture. This is why Ainslie seems to be so much more stable and less internally argumentative than other democracies. Ainslie is the perfect example of why a democratic model doesn’t need to be “consigned to the bins of history”. All it needs is reform - moulding and sculpting.

MÊNNA SHULI SEES LANDMARK WIN WITH 3-2 VICTORY IN FIRST QUALIFYING MATCH

CORINDIA - The Mênna celebrate a landmark victory in sports today as they take their first step forward to the IFAF Western Isles Cup following last night's win over Fahraxi. After a poor showing in the first half that had Fahraxi leading 2 - 0, a well-timed substitution in going into the second half brought Kita Spakâ Nâ onto the field, who would lead the team into a rapid-fire series of goals at the beginning of the first half. Mênna Shuli saw dominance in the second half, keeping Fahraxi on the back heel and in their own half for nearly the entire back end of the game. Spakâ's inclusion on the team, a somewhat controversial move given the worker's young age and inexperience in the domestic leagues, has more than paid for itself with this huge win.

"Sometimes you take risks," said Coach Kihâtkut Têtê Kêvât. "Sometimes those risks pay off. Putting Spakâ on was just that."

Many fans were seeing a Mênnan loss as a foregone conclusion at the end of the first half. Play was sluggish, and famed forward Kilu Pisakat Kêvât was just not equipped to land an on-target shot. Pisakat's form was clearly not up to his usual standards, prompting the decision to swap him out in the first half.

"Sometimes you just need some new energy to shake some action and sharpness into the squad," said Coach Têtê. "The boys get tired out there, they start to take their eye off the prize, they let their morale get down. You take someone young, with vigor and enthusiasm, and you inject that onto the field, and you have a whole new game."

Fans of the sport were quick to leap to praise the Fahraxi goalkeeper.

"Once he figured out the new energy, you could just see something click for him," said one fan at the famed Blue Lagoon Lounge in Shuhakallu. "Those saves in the second half were really something. It was just too bad for them that it took him seven minutes to get the message."

Hopefully, the Mênnan team will continue to ride this high going forward into the Cup.

GFA South Qualifier Begins with Roendavar and Orsandia taking center stage

Image

DOCIARA CITY, ROENDAVAR

Emperor Ion Grand Stadium played host to the first South Gael Conference game of the GFA Qualifier, and it failed to disappoint as Ainslie and Roendavar fought for dominance of the field in the opening 20 minutes. While some initially thought the game would be a nil tie, Artande Arten managed to sneak in a goal past Emanuel Alecsandri. Tonight's game managed to turn out cleaner as only one yellow card was shown today to Ainslie's attacking forward Tyler Barane, leaving a penalty kick open for Darius Moldovanu to exploit, putting Roendavar back in the game.

The two teams would continue a heated fight for control, with the Ahnslen offense and midfielders keeping control for most of the game, but a particularly nasty fall by Barane by 80' allowed Ion Pătrașcu to score his nation's second goal and win the game.

GUANFENG, ORSANDIA

The men and women of the Dormill-Stiuraian armed forces would be prominent in the game in Guanfeng, both as spectators and security for the capital of Orsandia as the conflict with communists terrorists reaches its third month. After a very extravagant pre-game performance and a moment of silence for Orsandia, the game began promptly. Tensions in the stadium were high for more than one reason as Orsandia dominated control of the ball throughout the first half. The Samuderan defense was particularly effective as they denied an Orsandian goal for all of thirty minutes until defender Chen Liang almost miraculously got the ball past the Samuderans and secured the first goal to Orsandia of the game.

Orsandia continued to dominate control of the ball for the remainder of the game, with only minor interruptions by the Samuderans. When Richard Chen scored the second and final goal of the game at 77', the Samuderan half of the stadium was emptying out at an alarming rate. It would turn out that multiple Samuderans went on to riot in the streets of Guanfeng as the game was ending, most of which were broken up by Guanfeng Police. It is estimated that 250 Samuderan citizens were detained, they will remain in Orsandia for the night before being deported back to Samudera tomorrow morning.

Oturia to Re-Militerize

Today a proposition was brought foward by President Weston, "since our inception we have been a beacon of peace in the western isles, but we leave ourselves open to enemies" she said,
Weston proposes to completely reform the defense force into a fully fledged military.
Alot of civilians especially older ones think it will be great and bring back the military prowess of the Terrakie Empire.
The younger citizens fear exactly that, they fear that it's a stepping stone to a fifth Terrakie Empire.

Classified Military Documents Stolen!
Early last week a hack was detected in the Federation Military Central Command. The breech was dealt with quickly, and only a few dozen documents were stolen. The public was told that only a few declassified documents were stolen. However, earlier today, across multiple websites were posted the classified documents. One of the documents has caused a stir among the people of the Federation, and the politicians.

A document detailing an Invasion plan of Athara Margarat. While the plan states it was a contingency plan developed immediately after the Imperial War and the defeat of Magrati forces that had invaded the Federation, the time stamp of when the document was last updated was in 2010. And other pages in this file outline how this information was the "Plan A" regarding any military conflict with Athara Magarat.

These are the documents most circulated by websites and new stations:

The Magarat Plan | Page 1, Paragraph 1 (Written in 1951)
In the event the nation of Athara Magarat should pose a threat to regional peace through military action, this plan of action shall be enacted by the full might of the Federation. We shall wage a war that shall destroy their ability to make war against any sovereign nation for a minimum of 100 years. A proposed invasion of their home island shall be focus of this plan. Strategic bombing of industry, civilian, and military centers shall also be implemented.

The Magarat Plan | Page 12, Paragraph 3 (Written in 1978)
Following these recent breakthroughs in military technology, an amendment to this plan shall be added. Along with conventional attacks on civilian and industrial targets, nuclear devices will be considered. With the latest developments, the federation can now consider this along with the standard plan. However, this plan resolves to never use more than half of the Federation's nuclear arsenal.

The Magarat Plan | Page 15, Paragraph 2 (Written in 2010)
The Magrati plan has been removed as the primary plan for dealing with an aggressive Athara Magarat. Diplomacy and economic sanctions shall be the primary course of action, before the actions of Page 1, Paragraph 1 can be enacted. A military blockade to strangle the Island nation shall be the 2nd course of action. The actions of Page 1, Paragraph 1 shall be the 3rd course of action. This amendment shall be the last to this plan. The only change to these papers permitted after their introduction is the dissolution of this plan by a unanimous vote by congress, and a final vote by the President.

Panha Prepares for Upcoming Soccer Match

TRÚAN, July 2 (PNN) -- First Panharat sports team to compete internationally

Crowds of thousands gathered in the streets of Arseau to see off the most famous men in Panha yesterday. Premier Svat herself was present to see off the Panharat national soccer team, as they left Aria Stanley International Airport for their match against Athara Magarat this Wednesday.

Premier Svat has welcomed PPN to cover the team; experts are expecting the upcoming game to see some of the largest viewership on Panharat television of all time. Clothing stores have sold out jerseys and T-shirts of Panharat gold, red, and blue as citizens await the match with bated breath. Svat announced a national holiday for the first match in honor of it marking the entrance of Panha onto the international stage. While the men's soccer team is the first to ever travel abroad for a sports match, they are not the first Panharat team to receive approval to travel abroad; that honor goes to the Panhan women's volleyball team.

"We have players with good techniques, but we lack practical experience," coach Damir Elerskay told the PPN's brand-new sports programme. "Panha has been underestimated all along and I think that this marks a chance to show the world what we are made of."

Captain Niklaus Ursan is not afraid to take on bigger teams, but he knows that his squad has challenges to overcome. "We are aware that we are facing teams with larger facilities and many more years of training, but nothing can compare to the spirit of Panha. Thanks to the opportunity granted by Premier Svat, we have the opportunity to represent Panha to the world. We won't betray that opportunity."

The Panha national team are nicknamed the "Imperials" after the rare flying squirrel only found in Panha.

Still, a win is a win, and Cosians will be proud to know that the boys' return to regional football have begun on a high note.

The Crocs kicked-off the match pushing up against Haasar's three-man backline, and it wasn't long before winger Belomouc turned in a defence-splitting cross into the opposition box. Target man Royce Funan powered through to collect the ball before slotting it in smoothly into the bottom left corner of the net; Haasch goalie Richard Tamoga must be frustrated that he let that through in an otherwise decent performance between the sticks.

Having gone one goal up, Cosie eased up on pressuring Haasar to let their free-spirited style of play shine through. Football fans in sunny Antonite were treated to a series of one-on-one duels between Cosie's frontline and the Haasch back five; The Crocs found that they were able to beat the defenders through fancy footwork, but they often had their runs spoiled by another member of Haasar's defence.

To their credit, the Haasch were capable of making their own offensive pushes by forcing the ball through the center of the pitch. While Cosie's midfield couldn't challenge their opponents' numerical advantage, they found that baiting their players into making rash mistakes was enough to halt their opponent's momentum; Haasar struggled to avoid their traps as can be seen in the numerous bookings they've collected throughout.

It was Cosie's foul in stoppage time, however, that proved to be the Haasch's best shot on goal. Defender Lapuin Deviya's outstretched arm was struck by the ball while challenging Lawrence Valenza's cross into the Cosian penalty area. The referee instantly pointed to the spot before cautioning Deviya; you could see the smiles dulling on Cosie's supporters as Haasch fans rallied for striker Aldo Lavicci to take the penalty.

Unfortunately, the penalty only resulted in agony for Haasar's faithful; Lavicci's shot managed to send Cosian goalie Roman Dubois the opposite way, but it was the left post that saved Cosie's impending win as it deflected the ball into the adboards.

Almost assured a spot in the Isle Cup finals, The Crocs are confident that their bag of tricks will make them the highlight of Corindia come August; Haasar, meanwhile, are left hoping that they'll find the net against Verona Beach if they wish to keep their finals hopes alive.

Cosie's Reactions

"We did exactly what we set out to do today," said national team manager Beminaire Julius in the post-match conference. "Our boys came to Covonant with the intent to play with grace and guile, and it's clear for all to see that we've managed to do both. If we can pull out the same performance against Verona Beach this week, there'll be no doubt about who I'd bet on winning the Cup."

"... there'll be no doubt about who I'd bet on winning the (Western Isles) Cup."
- Beminaire Julius, national team manager

Man-of-the-match Royce Funan was also confident about Cosie's chances in the tournament. "Someone told me this was my first time facing a team from the Western Isles," Funan said in his own post-match interview. "If all the other Isle countries are like this, then I have nothing to worry about."

Back on the Layman Island, even the most cynical supporters are excited about The Crocs' prospects in the 2018 IFAF Western Isles Cup.

"I normally don't follow the national team as they never seemed to get anywhere in the past," said Clarita Felix, a regular shopper at Embrace's renowned Plaza de Mar. "But I caught the match against Haasar with my family, and I must say, they're a lot better than I remember! I'm really hoping they'll keep up that same quality against the other nations."

Oswaldo Rivas, a local historian, thinks the team's victory will server to raise Cosie's profile in the eyes of their Isle neighbours. "Our team's win over Haasar all but guarantees Cosie a trip to Corindia," said Rivas. "Can you believe it? As late as last year, we Cosians couldn't even talk about Corindia, much less visit it. Now that we've rejoined the Western Isles, it feels like a whole new world has been opened to us!"

"Believe me when I say the Isles aren't just going to learn who our footballers are: We are going to learn who they all are, and more!"

Muco brace helps the Eaglets soar past Athara Magarat with a 3-0 win

Covonant's 4-3-3 attacking formation

TIWE PARK

The better teams of the 2017 IFAF Western Isles Cup were not be allowed easy tickets to Corindia this year. Last year's hosts and champions Norstham were beaten by the little-known Kalmarfrihet side in a 3-0 shock defeat around a week ago. Though, the Norsans did manage to qualify for the 2018 Isles Cup, they had been in a tough race in their 4-3 win against a Polar Svalbard side whose key players had been out of the game due to injuries. And it seems, Athara Magarat , one of the talented footballing teams in in the Isles managing to reach the Round of Six and earn the Fair Play Award last year, will have a lot to prove on Wednesday against Kho Panha; especially after they were humbled 3-0 by a superior Covonantian side in a match eerily similar to the one Kalmarfrihet had won against Norstham.

On Monday, the national men's football teams of Athara Magarat and Covonant met at the neutral venue of Tiwe Park, Domanania at 1:00 pm local time to see which side would be earning the three points in the Central and South Mesder Group A. The Eaglets, managed by the 41 years old coach Ganasi Mentase, started convincingly with a goal in the 15th minute. Covonantian forward Quintus Muco latched onto a loose ball in the box and beat Magarati goalkeeper Ankit Maharjan with his left foot, despite the latter's best efforts.

The Athara Magarati side then maintained possession for much of the first half. However, they repeatedly failed to produce shots on the Covonantian goal post. Magarati fans booed at the "boring" game of watching their players just pass the ball to one another while Covonantian fans were ecstatic with the lead and brilliant attacks carried out whenever the Eaglets managed to steal the ball. The Magarati players paid the price for being aggression-shy when another Covonantian goal came in at the 45th minute. It was Muco once again with the ball. However, the Covonantian forward, facing stiff resistance from the Magarati defense, passed ball to his teammate Drusus Vitus and the Covonantian defender rifled a brilliant goal past Maharjan.

Four minutes into the second half, yellow cards were awarded to players from both sides. Covonantian midfielder Arruns Venator performed a sliding challenge on Magarati forward Firoz Suhang, who immediately knocked down Venator in anger with a swift kick. Both of the players were given strict warning by the referee and Suhang especially was lucky enough to be not handed red for the kick that was better suited for martial arts. Two minutes later, another Magarati player - Miraj Rajbansi - was booked for a tackle on Covonantian forward Servius Libo. However, the free-kick was wasted as Libo planted it straight into the wall. Suhang's kick and Rajbansi's unnecessary challenge were still in debate in the Magarati camp after the match and were in stark contrast to the behavior expected from 2017 Isles Cup Fair Play Award winners.

The flurry of yellow cards aside, it got even worse for the Athara Magaratis when Muco netted his completed his brace in the 60th minute. Venator's cross was headed into the Magarati goal post by Muco; signalling game over for the Kaski islanders.

The Magarati manager sent in Khiman Hangbang to replace midfielder Samir Gurung in the 67th minute. However, there was no change in the score. Mentase had Arruns Zosimus replace forward Drusus Lateranus in the 72nd minute and Gallio Polus take over Venator's role in the 84th minute.

When the final whistle was blown, the jubilant Eaglets in their green and yellow stripes had taken the three points with three goals while the Magaratis were lamenting their loss, lack of attacks and unnecessary fouls committed by the players; all the while knowing that they must win against Kho Panha on Wednesday. On the other hand, despite his goal against their country, several high-profile Magarati players and managers of lcoal teams mentioned that they wished to have a footballer like Muco play in the Dragon Division.

National News of the Empire

Image

July 3, 2018
Reminder that any tampering with the information that the National News of the Empire provides is punishable by time in prison, depending on the severity of the tampering.

Men Arrested on Sedition Are To Be Executed

As expected, the emperor eventually intervened in the matter of two men arrested on sedition. Said men's names are Rertana Wama and Welliu Wama. They are to be executed today.

Emperor Halif Grenrer commented on the issue by saying the following: " Sedition is no small crime. To threaten to flee the glorious nation of Teronita should be punishable by death. These men are simply two examples of traitors who got what they deserved."

As our glorious emperor stated, sedition SHOULD be punishable by death because we need the support of our people to recover from the problems of the past.

Terrorist Group Threatens Teronita

A terrorist group in western Teronita has threatened to wage war on the nation. It is expected that the two aforementioned men are part of this group that threatens the sanctity of our glorious empire. They call themselves the "Prideful Lions of Democracy". They dare take our national symbol and use it for themselves?

The group represents democracy, an ideology that tears nations apart from the inside out. This allows unintelligent people to elect corrupt officials that worsen a country. They wish to tear our nation apart in more ways then one.

They held a protest in the city of Mujani in western Teronita. They shouted for reform, as if our nation needed it. They shouted for representation, as if they deserved it. And when troops ordered them to leave, they stood there. When said troops pull out firearms, they fled like the cowards that they are. A flag was left at the protest. If anyone sees this flag anywhere, report the owners of the flag to the local police because they ARE terrorists who threaten the sanctity of our great empire.

MÊNNA SHULI WINS AGAIN IN HOME GAME

SHUHAKALLU - Another victory places the Mênnan national football team ever closer to the IFAF Western Isles Cup. Playing on home ground at Twin Cities Stadium in Shuhakallu, the local boys faced down host team Corindia, chasing momentum from their win against Fahraxi. The game was shaping up to be a 0 - 0 draw until an 87th minute goal by growing hero, Kita Spakâ Nâ.

"This was a hard-fought, uphill battle," said Coach Kihâtkut Têtê Kêvât. "We're taking nothing for granted. Spakâ continues to distinguish himself and do the team proud. Our boys are from a small home league, they know each other well, and they're really developing a language on the pitch that is translating to some of the best play to come out of Mênna Shuli in the past twenty years."

Supporters at home were concerned going into the tournament of Mênna Shuli's chances against larger, better funded teams, but hopes for a quality showing in the Cup continue to rise.

"We've stopped looking at each consecutive game we play as the be-all, end-all of our season," said Spakâ when interviewd after the match. "We're starting to look at how far we can really take this. People keep talking about my play these past few games, and the fact of the matter is that I wouldn't be landing these shots without my teammates amazing playmaking, and we wouldn't be in that position if it weren't for us having real hope for our chances of seeing ourselves lifting the Cup."

Analysts of the sport did point out that there was room for improvement on the pitch. "We've been sloppy on the whole," said one expert. "We're relying on surprise and rhythm to win games, but at some point we need to tighten up, to play the positions and have a real plan. Luck and a form can only bring us so far."

Four Days in, Six Great Games Played

Image

STERLING STADIUM, NOVA LANETA, ALTERAN REPUBLICS

The Altera Men's National Football team had a lot to practice on after getting stomped by the Chancers in the opening game, and their training pulled out well when they returned to Sterling Stadium to take on the leading Mandekan team. The Alteran offense, led by Adamus Falconius, took an initial field advantage against their opponents. However, the Mandekan defense held firm in the opening minutes, denying several goal attempts by Falconius. As the game marched closer towards halftime, the right-wing attacker Harold Epps stormed his way through the Alteran defense and won the first goal of the game at 30 minutes.

Demoralized, but not defeated, the Alteran squad was shuffled around, giving Falconius enough support throughout the second half to eventually secure the second goal just an hour into the game and maintain the tie for the remainder of regulation. Even though the Alteran Republics has had a tough start, they are going to Ile-de-Avillon with confidence.

Image

GUSATTER, TOROM

Argus got its second treat to a great game when the Torom National Team came back with a vengeance against a 39-minute goal by the Negarakitan star and captain Ahmad Saleh. Unfortunate for Negarakitan across the Isles, they soon saw him limp off the field with a potentially career-ending ACL injury. His loss was felt a while later after halftime when Adrian Astami brought Torom back into the game. The Toroman squad held onto their advantage for about 11 minutes until Terry Talev secured the second goal for his nation by way of a penalty kick.

After another midfield fight for the ball, Astami once again came back to the spotlight and scored his second goal of the game, putting Torom up by 3 against Negarakita.

AR'KSEN CITY, ARUIA

After several stressful weeks of handling a sudden refugee crisis from the Orsandian war, the citizens of Ar'ksen got to relax to a fairly simple game of football up against Verdon, which was knocked out of the Group Stage last year. Dante Me'ximos secured his goal for Aruia at just under an hour into the game and the remainder of his squad moved to maintain their lead. Fortunately for them, the Verdonians did not pursue too aggressively (except for Guilham Tosque, who was mildly too aggressive and got slapped with a Red Card, kicking him out of the remainder of the qualifiers) to tie the game and left El'driano Stadium in a roar of victory.

Image

BUSHBY, MANDEKA

Tying against the Alteran Republics on their own field might've been enough to show how powerful the Mandekan squad was, but when the Qualifiers came home dragging the Alteran sugardaddy Noronnicans with them, the Mandekans quickly showed who was the master of the turf, as midfielder Robert Wright tore open the Noronnican defenses only fifteen minutes into the game. The game progressed from there in strong fashion for the home squad as they kept up their pressure against the Noronnican defenses. Unfortunately, near-half burnout took its toll on the leaders, leaving the defensive field open for Tomas Hugo to earn a 41' goal.

The Mandekans, not keen on ending their game at home in a tie, fought hard after halftime ended for a chance of Noronica getting away with just a tie. Harold Epps managed to slip through his opponent's defensive line and win Bushby's second goal of the night, propelling Mandeka to be a team to beat for the North Gael Qualifiers.

Image

DOCIARA CITY, ROENDAVAR
Fresh from their victory in Ar'kesen, the Aruian National Team must've felt invincible when they flew out to Dociara City, and the game opened as if they would carry themselves even higher up the standings in South Gael, with Er'nato Sabion sinking in an early 19' goal. For most of the game, the Aruians held the game, but when Alceo Deljior had a nasty fall at the 66' mark, the game began to turn away from the champions from Ar'ksen. This failure in the coordination of the left defensive wing would prove disastrous for the visitors as Mihai Oltean exploited it to put Roendavar back in the lead to end the game, and Auria's brief winning streak.

GUANGFENG, ORSANDIA
Alike to Auria, the Torom National Team entered Guangfeng confident from their earlier victory and sure that they could take on Orsandia. And much in the same fashion, Patrick Amvesi opened up the scoreboard early with a 19' goal. Unfortunately, the king of the Shengzhou, Richard Chen, denied any sense of an easy victory for Torom by answering with a goal moments later, followed by a goal from Alberto Cardenas at the half-hour mark. Air Orsandia Stadium was given a real treat tonight as Adrian Astami became the highest goalscorer of the qualifiers by putting one behind the net during extra time just before halftime.

The game would continue to generate more drama as Chen answered Astami with a 61' goal and knocked the Toroman off his young pedestal. Frederick Wabaral, a defender, decided to take the situation into his own feet after tackling Reginald Li and driving the ball behind the goal before the hour was up. Not to be humiliated, Li personally went after Wabaral (earning himself a yellow card in the process) and then proceeded to show the defense of Torom what it was like to take on the wonderkid as he ruined their defensive line and notched the fourth and final goal in Air Orsandia Stadium to much celebration and applause. From there, it was only a matter of solidifying the Orsandian defense and denying a final chance to make things difficult, which was executed on almost perfectly, ending the game with 4 - 3 to the defending Orsandians.

Re-militarization Vote
The proposal put forth by President Weston to re-militerize Oturia has gained alot of traction.
There are many people in favor of this act and many against the act.

"This is what we need, Oturia needs to show that they haven't gone soft." Says Ýuko Þalc, an avid supporter of a bigger and stronger army.

The act has a large opposition, we interviewed Jun Əmber who said this, "We need less military not more, if this act passes it's just another step to a fifth Terrakie Empire, our neighbors probably don't want this either especially the southern ones who know the destruction we used to bring."

The vote to settle this act will take place July 7th, 2018, were the Senate will vote on the act and possibly change Oturia's influence in central and south Argus.

Dethronement!?

As if emancipation were not enough, a number of former peasants throughout the Ilse have gathered, both demanding the publication of the constitution, which has yet to be revealed to any not involved in the writing, that is, a few liberals and nobles of no particular stature. This has led to a few Blanchard Legitimists to raise their voices, and most of them have mysteriously disappeared. More, however, have been calling for full liberalisation, and the proclamation of a republic.Arrests have tried to keep pace, but c[/strike]Certain policemen mysteriously fail to apprehend these dastardly criminals. Crime appears to be generally on the rise, and a number of nobles have taken to patrolling their property, to prevent the now common vandalisms.

Commune in Lortika Nord Île Fails

To the surprise of few, the socialist commune has finally collapsed. The settlement was very innovative, with full direct democracy and, for some time, a relatively well off and cooperative populace. Though some left with bitter feelings, a number feel hopeful and prepared for another venture, perhaps with a smaller number participants and more fertile land..

Illa Isle Proclaims Independence - Vancouvian Military Dispatched to Safely Quell Rebellion and Protect Citizens

In a greatly symbolic move, Illa Isle leadership declared independence from Vancouvia today, the anniversary of the formation of Vancouvia 18 years ago on July 5th, 2000. Likely hoping to elicit sympathy by comparing Illa's desire for nationhood with Vancouvia's own struggles, Westilla mayor Ignacio Campos announced at noon today that Illa has "come into adulthood" and would henceforth be "permanently and justly separate and unique in all matters of state, law, trade, and safety."

Campos' speech, which lasted just four minutes, comes in the wake of the Islanders success in the second Base Tern siege, in which Vancouvian leadership was forced to surrender the base to the Illa rebellion after several SAM anti-air missiles surrounded the base. While many assumed that the base would be relieved by a land-based invasion by the Vancouvian military, Congress reluctantly focused instead on diplomatic talks, which so far have been fruitless. "Our goal was and is to peacefully restore order and stability to Illa, and using our military is simply not a preferable option for us, unlike the gangs of rebels on the island which utilize terror and force to gather power," said Senator Jorja Heyes on Monday.

The independence announcement, however, has finally forced Congress' hand, as they immediately ordered the navy and several cohorts of VSF to the island to "retake Base Tern, reestablish hospitals and other significant infrastructure, and dethrone and arrest the despotic leadership of the rebellion."

In several flash polls, it has been revealed that roughly 55% of Illa Islanders are in favor of independence, 20% are against, and 25% had no significant opinion. The majority in favor are from Westilla, now the capital of the so-called Citizen's Republic of Illa. While a government has not yet formed, Campos mentioned in his brief speech that the creation of a legislative body and a Constitutional convention would be a first order of business. Other priorities included the transition of the Island Defense Militia to reorganization into a Citizen's Army, which has had record recruitment since the announcement of independence.

Congress has called upon its allies to support the aim of restoring order and peace to Illa by refusing trade with the island, preventing air and sea travel to and from Illa, and not recognizing the new regime as legitimate.

NEW LIBANG, ATHARA MAGARAT - There's much to be said about Cosie's 2-1 defeat to Verona Beach in the 2018 IFAF Western Isles Cup Mesder qualifiers. Veronese substitute Henry Cantrell's handball went uncalled as teammate Andy Paczik headed in his cross at stoppage-time, but the match could have ended much earlier for The Crocs had Slava Gorov been able to convert his penalty attempt. Whatever the case, Cosie's grace and guile were not enough to fend off Verona Beach's grit.

After their previous victory over Haasar, an air of complacency surrounded the Cosian team heading into the tightly-monitored Su Stadium. Many of Cosie's personnel were somewhat dismissive of Verona Beach's chances in pre-match interviews; star striker Royce Funan was absent in training, having spent his hour interacting with Cosian supporters who managed to make the trip to war-torn Athara Magarat.

The general lack of concern didn't trouble Cosie at kick-off; Veronese captain Alexander Rodriguez had to stay on constant alert as he tried to keep The Crocs' central midfield trio in front of him. Unfortunately for Rodriguez, Cosian captain Carlos Fontana managed to shrug him off in the 37th minute, threading in a pass Funan's way for the striker to blast into the bottom left corner.

Cosie's goal only seemed to invigourate their opponents, however; Verona Beach's three center forwards (dubbed "the Russian Three" owing to their eponymous heritage) swarmed the Cosian defence six minutes later, passing the ball between each other before Andy Paczik capped it off with a thunderous shot past goalkeeper Roman Dubois. It was the first goal Cosie conceded in the tournament.

Cosie's backline continued to struggle against the Veronese strikers after the break, eventually culminating in defender Lapuin Deviya's 65th-minute foul on Pavel Kaminsky. When the referee saw Deviya's hand dragging Kaminsky's shirt down in the box, it was a no-brainer for him to award Verona Beach a penalty. To add salt to the wound, Deviya's second yellow in two games officially ruled the center-back out of Cosie's next international fixture.

Cosian goalie Dubois must have felt a heavy sense of déjà vu when penalty taker Slava Gorov's shot threw him the other way, and that sense must have only deepened when the ball ended up being bounced out by the post. In two consecutive matches, Cosie had conceded a penalty only for their opponent's shot to be beaten by the upright.

Unlike their match against Haasar, however, The Crocs would not end this match on top.

In the 89th minute, Veronese substitute Henry Cantrell replaced the exhausted Tyrone Williams as Verona Beach put bodies forward in search of another goal. Meanwhile, Cosie were pulling out all the stops to avoid spoiling their record with a loss, even if it meant resorting to underhanded tactics that escaped the referee's vision. A long pass came Cantrell's way a minute in, and with his first touch, the substitute handled the ball.

The referee didn't call his foul.

Cantrell, with better control over the ball, then lobbed in (with his foot) a beautiful cross into the Cosian box, and Andy Paczik was there to head the ball in, earning himself a brace in the process.

Everyone wearing Cosie's white and teal, from the players all the way to the fans, was justifiably in uproar over the referee's non-decision. Cosian players crowded the referee as they argued over Cantrell's handball, but as far as we could tell, the referee was having none of it. The Crocs were lucky to escape that incident without a card, but they couldn't escape the one-goal deficit that befell them by the end of the match.

Group B of the Central and South Mesder Sea qualifiers has been blown wide open thanks to Verona Beach's win over Cosie. Cosie must pray that the Veronese will be able to hold back Haasar this Friday if they want to keep their chances of advancing to the Isle Cup finals alive.

Cosie's Reactions

Despite incurring defeat in the most aggravating way against Verona Beach, Cosie's national team manager Beminaire Julius was all smiles at the post-match conference.

"The ref simply had an off-day today," Julius said nonchalantly. "We can complain all we'd like about his no-call on the Verona boy or his booking Lapuin (Deviya) for light contact, but we've got to realise that the referee is human too. We humans make mistakes all the time, and it just so happened that his mistakes ended up going against our boys. It's best that we all just relax, forget what happened today and look forward to our next match in the Cup. Trust me, we'll still be in it come next month."

"It's best that we all just relax, forget what happened today and look forward to our next match in the (Western Isles) Cup."
- Beminaire Julius, national team manager

On being asked to comment about The Crocs' less-than-sporting play in the second half, Julius simply smirked. "Another time," he answered.

Julius's assistant manager, Antonio Beck, was more tentative over Cosie's prospects of qualifying for the Western Isles Cup. "We might still qualify for a spot in the Cup even if Haasar win their match 1-0," said Beck. "But here's the thing: The Haasch can't score any more than one goal. If it's 2-0, we're out on goal difference. (If it's) 3-2, we're out on goals scored. 2-1... maybe our head-to-head result will see us through? I'm not so sure."

Beck continued. "What's clear to us, in the end, is that we've left the other teams to decide the fate of our qualification. All we can do now is sit down and hope for Haasar to get a good thrashing in Domanania."

Back on the Layman Island, Cosie's residents are seeing mixed outlooks on The Crocs' chances to qualify for the Isles Cup finals.

"I normally don't follow the national team as they never seemed to get anywhere in the past," said Clarita Felix, a regular shopper at Embrace's historic Plaza de Mar. "I get the feeling things will stay the same after our loss against Verona Beach. It's so typical of our country: Style over one opponent, slack off against the next."

Having already paid for a month-long holiday in Corindia, Crocs superfan Peder Honson refused to entertain the idea that Cosie might miss out on the Isles Cup. "Cosie will be in the Cup. They must be in the Cup," said Honson. "I know this, the team knows this. Haasar is a weak footballing nation, they will not overtake Cosie. Cosie will be in the Cup. Ho me Diu, please make it so."

Plastic bags to be banned within 3 years

Today, the Grand Princes have granted their Royal Assent to a piece of legislation that is set to outlaw plastic bags in the Land of Townside within the next three years. This is a major victory for environmentalism and sustainable development in Townside, but is only one of a series of measures recently taken by the government to protect Townside’s most treasured natural environmental wonders. For example, just three months prior, the Grand Princes sealed the Charter of the Forest to protect large swathes of Townside’s national treasure in the Forest of Trees.

The current legislation is more complex than that Royal Charter, and to fully inform the population of its implications, the Daily Buzz has had exclusive interviews with parliamentarians and law makers to understand the processes, procedures and timelines of the Bill that eventually became law.

Initial submissions

The first submissions that sparked the debate was made by the University Committee of the Privy Council to the Grand Princes and other Privy Counsellors during a meeting of the Privy Council of Townside six months ago. The submission was made following research from the University of Townside detailing the impact of plastic pollution on Townside’s rivers and oceans. More shockingly, however, was the statistic that revealed that the average Townsider produced 76 kg (167 lb) of plastic wastage, or 683 million kg (1.5 billion lb) of plastic every year. This total amount is three times the naval tonnage of the Royal Townside Navy.

The University Committee then implored the Grand Princes to summon parliament to pass the act in order to mitigate the effects of this plastic wastage, and indeed to reduce the pollution in the first place. The Grand Princes and the Privy Council were reportedly very agreeable and enthusiastic about it.

Summary of the Act

The Grand Princes tasked the Minister of Environment to oversee the Bill on its journey towards the statute books. The Minister of Environment initially submitted to the General Assembly of Parliament the “Plastic Shopping Bags (Prohibition on Supply by Retailers) Bill 2018”. However, on a rare success from a private member’s motion, a Green Party MP convinced a majority of the General Assembly to rename the Bill to the “Climate Change (Banning Plastic Bags) Bill 2018”. Nevertheless, when the Bill was approved by the General Assembly of Parliament and sent for consideration by the Grand Council of Parliament, the Grand Council further renamed the Bill to the “Environmental Protection (Banning Plastic Bags and Other Things) Bill 2018”. This name was kept and subsequently became the name of the Act.

The Environmental Protection (Banning Plastic Bags and Other Things) Act 2018 made provisions for a legal minimum charge of 5 shillings (ks0.05) for almost all single use bags. However, exemptions applied, most notably for medicine supplied on prescription. Other exemptions include bags for unpackaged food, loose seeds, soil-contaminated goods, axes, knives or blades; drugs and medical appliances; small packaged uncooked fish, meat or poultry; aquatic animals; purchases made in aerodrome security restriction areas (airport security); goods bought on board a ship, train, aircraft, coach or bus; and, in order to promote the growth of new businesses, retailers with less than 250 employees are also exempt from the charge.

VAT raised from the charge will be collected by the government. Retailers may spend the rest of the proceeds of the charge as they see fit, although they are “strongly urged” to donate the proceeds on to charities and “good causes”.

Subsequent stages of the Act

Like most Acts, there are provisions that would come into force only after certain dates elapsed following the Royal Assent. There are four such provisions with the current Act.

On 1 July 2019, the levy will be extended to reusable carrier bags with a retail price of less than 20 shillings (ks0.20), as submissions to Parliament by retailers and the University of Townside indicate that reusable bag sales would increase by 800% after the introduction of the levy on single use bags.

Also on 1 July 2019, the levy will be extended to retailers with less than 250 employees as well.

On 1 July 2020, the charge will extend to biodegradable bags made of paper as well. This measure is meant to protect other areas of the environment, most notably forests, which would be used to meet the increased demand of paper bags.

Finally, on 1 July 2021, plastic bags will be completely banned in the Land of Townside, with retailers facing a fine if they persist in providing plastic bags.

Predictions

The Government and the University of Townside predicts that carrier bag use in Townside should reduce by 96% after the introduction of the charge.

The proceeds of the levy is expected to be around ks3.337 million, and are paid to the Ministry of Environment and used to fund environmental projects and to enforce the levy.

Official predictions for the Townside levy show that the number of single use bags dispensed would fall by 722 million, from a current high of 790 million bags dispensed down to 68 million, a predicted 91.4% reduction.

Public reactions

Although the official date for the removal of all commercial plastic bags is only three years away, many businesses have already, on their own accord, removed plastic bags from their shops and ended their provision of plastic bags much ahead of the deadline. Most notably, this included some of Townside’s largest supermarket chains.

Unfortunately, this move has caused tempers to flare as retailers began complying with the Act. One customer reportedly grabbed a sales assistant by the throat, while another labelled staff as “money grabbing crooks”.

A phenomenon being termed “bag rage”, many of these retailers has had to back down and offer free reusable bags for a limited period, and to keep more staff on duty throughout all hours to help with the transition and to keep queue lengths down, all in “compensation” for inconvenience caused to customers.

Interestingly, the majority of these reported abusers have allegedly come from the nation’s capital of the Town Beside the Sea, where customers are described as generally being more “rude, brash and in a constant state of rush”. However, the rate of abuse and violence was reportedly much lower outside the capital city. As Daily Buzz tried to interview customers across the lesser cities and the countryside, we found a general apathetic attitude towards the new plastic bag policy.

“It is how it is. We just get on with it,” told one local shopper as he stuffed his week’s grocery into his school bag.

The rate of plastic wastage in the capital is much higher than elsewhere in the country. In the Town Beside the Sea, the plastic wastage per capita was reported at 120 kg (264 lb), whereas the rest of the country excluding the capital had a plastic wastage per capita of only 18 kg (40 lb).

The Minister of Industry has stated that although he understands that some customers will be frustrated by the changes, he urged all customers to treat staff with respect at all times, and that frustration is no excuse for abusive or violent actions against staff. A recent survey showed that more than 40% of staff at a major supermarket chain in the Town Beside the Sea has suffered some form of abuse ever since the supermarket began phasing out plastic bags.

On the other hand, some environmentalist groups have criticised the Act for being too passive and weak. Some state that there should have been absolutely no exceptions to the use of plastic bags and that it should have been banned across all industries and businesses of all sizes. Some also criticised the lengthy timeline of three years before a total outlaw of plastic bags as a source of worry for the environment. They argue that these delays would mitigate the primary objective of the Act.

“It’s like the government wants Townside to flood or something,” said one young student protesting on the lawns of the University of Townside “I can’t take this capitalist b*llshit anymore!”

|Repeated Arrests Against Catholic Clergy Following Recent Legislation|
It's been almost a month since recent legislation was passed and 6 priests have been reported to be put into jail awaiting trial, most for refusing to offer information regarding confessions made by criminal suspects. The Jimenean bishop of Del Agua stated "We would rather be cast into prison than to break ties with the Roman Church and go against doctrine to conform to recent legislation. We are one Church with little fears". Cardinal Pius III now risks arrest if he continues his efforts to resist the Jimenean government and encouraging the laity to do the same. Other priests were arrested for defending or venerating Catholic statues in the public, recently outlawed by the Jimenean Congress. President Canone vetoed the proposal but it was ultimately overridden by the House of Confederates. After this, congressmen began debating the position of President Canone and have proposed his impeachment for refusing to sign new bills into law after they have been overridden by the House. Public support for Canone has dwindled as his power becomes less each day.

|Terrorist Movement Rises in Southern San Jimenez|
Earlier this week, amidst the arrests of Catholic clergy, a surprising turn of events took place in Cleburne County, Aldenoe. Late into the night, at approximately 3:00 am according to security surveillance, six armed men broke into the federal county prison where two priests were being held and awaiting trial. At almost 3:15 am, eight security personnel were being held by the armed men at the front desk of the prison and the police on shift were ordered to lay down their weapons and were transferred to a corridor where four more armed men were waiting and they were held there momentarily. Two of the six armed men who were at the front desk apparently obtained the information from federal computers in the prison that the two priests were being held in the West wing of the prison, they soon released to the two priests and escorted them through the back exit of the prison leaving the other prisoners in their cells. After receiving the transmissions that the priests had been released, the armed men then proceeded to tie each federal officer with zip ties leaving them in the corridor while doing the same with the security personnel at the front desk. After, the men lowered the Jimenean National Flag that waved outside the prison with another one closely resembling it with a Marian Catholic image upon it. It was clear that these men had religious motives when carrying out the scheme. Despite all men being armed, no bullet was ever fired and no federal officers were killed/injured. The occurrence was over at about 4:00 am and the later shift would arrive around 5:30 am who then freed the captive officers and investigated the security tapes. Before the men left, a letter was given to the sheriff among the tied up police officers by the assumed leader of the ten armed men. The letter said:

We, so rightfully called, The Guadalupanas have proved here today that our cause is one of nobility. We have left you without a single drop of blood being spilled and our Fathers freed. We propose no violence to gain the respect and full rights of the Catholic Church but we will not cower before the option. Our cause is simple, to uphold the Catechism and doctrine of the Universal Church. In defiance of the corrupted government of San Jimenez, we have taken our stand. It is time the government recognizes the Church as equal and an institution that deserves dignity or else it risks waking a "sleeping lion" that's roar will be heard across the Isles. Here, that lion is half awake. Its name is The Guadalupanas, through the grace of God we will be victorious. Hear the ardent cry of the Jimenean people, free our Church or else we will bear the cross in our upcoming struggle, victoriously.

~ Porter Goliad, defender of the Jimenean Church.

Image
Confiscated computer rendering of the flag flown at the county prison after the occurance.

The Jimenean Congress issued warrants for the ten men, especially the assumed leader, Porter Goliad, and have condemned the Guadalupanas as an extreme terrorist movement. Cardinal Pius III decreed that those who defend the Church are to receive a plenary indulgence but he did not specify or speak directly about the occurrence. Church officials have not yet endorsed the movement but it is highly suspected that Church support is on their side, however, not openly due to increased persecutions against the Church. President Lucas Canone announced he was open to the idea of resigning his post since the "now leads a government that is stained with injustice". The future is definitely not yet known. What is known is that it will soon shape the fate of the nation as a whole.

Thank you for choosing the Gran Teran Gazette, we will update you as stories like these develop.

Athara Magarat bounces back for 3 - 2 win against Kho Panha

Image
The Athara Magarati team in their 4-2-3-1 lineup

ANTONITE

All around the Isles, there have plenty of surprises in the qualifying matches for the 2018 IFAF Western Isles Cup to be held in Corindia next month. In Bushby, Mandeka beat their much fancied opponents Noronica with a 2-1 win while in the Central and South Mesder qualifiers, Verona Beach put a stop to the high-flying Cosie side with similar score. But the surprises had began weeks earlier with Kalmarfrihet's previously unknown squad thrashing 2017 IFAF Western Isles Cup champions Norstham 3-0 in the North Mesder qualifiers. Athara Magarat, who had reached the Round of Six in 2017 Isles Cup, had suffered a 3-0 defeat as well to Covonant. Just like the Norsans who had later on triumphed over Polar Svalbard 4-3 in their second game and managed to grab tickets for Corindia; the Athara Magaratis won their second game 3-2 against Kho Panha. While their berth in the 2018 Isles Cup is still not assured, the Magaratis eased a lot of their burdens on Wednesday at Antonite Athletic Park and Stadium, a neutral venue ironically located in Covonant.

The first half of the match was dominated by the Magarati footballers; although they still seemed to lack in the offensive. The Panhan players rarely received the ball and thus, were devoid of goal-scoring chances. However, Magarati fans were not pleased at all - for their team had dominated the possession in the first half at the 3-0 loss to Covonant's Eaglets as well. The first half went without any event of note aside from a yellow card for Panhan midfielder Jan Tirhang who was found guilty of tripping Magarati forward Firoz Suhang. Despite getting yellow card, Tirhang did not display any aggressive behavior, instead he was apologizing as he helped Suhang to his feet. After taking a large gulp of water, Suhang nodded that he was good to continue.

The scoring started three minutes into the second half when Panhan forward Andre Kips dribbled past Magarati left-back Kaji Man Iwahang and then rifled a low shot into the bottom corner of the goal post. The Panhesians doubled their lead four more minutes later. Attacking midfielder Fasar Ershwin's pass was well-received by forward Nixi Chrga, who scored a brilliant goal from around 25 yards. It seemed that all hope for the Athara Magaratis was lost. The match was starting to become eerily similar to the 3-0 loss against Covonant.

However, the tide was to turn towards the favor of the Magaratis - starting with Khiman Hangbang replacing the tired right-wing player Kiran Yohimbang in the 65th minute. Barely three minutes into the pitch, Hangbang ran towards the opposing goal post. Just when it seemed the substitute was about to score, Panhan center-back Calph Ekabala challenged Hangbang and the ball flew away from both of them towards Iwahang. The Magarati left-back, usually reserving his forehead to deflect the ball from the corner, netted in a brilliant header to have the Magarati players and fans roaring back to life. And when the equalizer was scored five more minutes later, Hangbang was at it again. Athara Magarat's left-wing player Fau-doh Armaja, shifted across the field from one side to the other before delivering a pinpoint cross for Hangbang to deliver. Hangbang wasted no time in heading in Armaja's cross from close range to make it 2-2.

The last substitution of the game was done in the 81st minute when midfielder Haunri Thisinier replaced Tirhang, the only player to be booked in the entire match. High hopes were placed on Thisinier to change the score. However the Panhan side was unable to stop the Magaratis from scoring in the final minute. Magaarti defensive midfielder Hemant Rai's low ball was received by Suhang and the ball was further passed to Armaja. The left-wing player tapped it in from around seven yards to score the decisive finisher.

While the Magarati players and their fans celebrated the hard-fought 3-2 win jubilantly, they also knew better than anyone else than that Kho Panha's match against Covonant on Friday at Su Stadium, Athara Magarat, would be the game that would decide which two teams qualify for the 2018 Isles Cup. The handshakes after the final whistle seemed to indicate that the Magaratis would be eagerly watching the Friday match.

Halif Grenrir Denounces Kalmarfrihet

After receiving a report that the biased, inferior news organization that reports for the Kingdom of Kalmarfrihet called for the release of two unloyal former citizens of our glorious empire. Halif released a statement earlier today, two days after the execution of these unloyal citizens, about this weak kingdom denouncing them. "They believe in a concept known as free speech. But this concept simply ruins a nation from the inside out, just as democracy does, just as terrorism does." were the words out glorious, and wise 82 year old emperor stated. He went on to say, "I am in shock that they also denounce our news sources. They maybe state controlled, however, we use our sources. We have sources. We tell the truth. Anyone who doubts us, will be subjected to punishment, because we must retain a strong state." When asked about the terrorist group known as the Prideful Lions of Democracy, Halif Grenrer stated "We will not tolerate for this. Our troops are bravely fighting off a group that wishes to destroy a strong nation such as our own." He then said that he has no more words. Kalmarfrihet is more then likely a supporter of of terrorist groups due to their belief in ridiculous concepts that also destroy nations.

CAUSA GLOBE

Oturian Rearmament
It is has come to our knowledge that Oturia is in the process of increasing their military strength. Many people are concerned about the possible creation of a Fifth Terrakie Empire. The biggest concern is of course in our colony of Vesperia, which shares it's northern border with Oturia.
Having had an in depth discussion with leaders of both the Imperial Army and Navy, we are assured that there is little to fear. While during the Nubursian Conquest numerous border clashes took place with Terrakie regulars, that army no longer exist. It is felt that it will take a minimum of 5 years for the army and 10 years for the navy to reach the ability to be any form of threat to the Empire.
So while the rearmament is something to watch, there is nothing to fear.
