The fact that aiding you would cost me arguably the largest source of arms and equipment.
Their Marines and Maxim Guns are a lot scarier then your bull horns and flanking maneuvers.

Army:In June of 1909, the government ordered the mobilization of three mixed brigades to Melilla and the resumption of the railway works of the Rif mines. In July, a group of Riffians attacked the railroad workers and the Spanish government announced that it was going to start a "border police operation" to secure the area. One of the brigades, made up of battalions of hunters, began his boat in the port of Barcelona, but when it was the turn of the Battalion of Hunters of Reus, cries were heard against the war and the exemption from service of the rich. Similar incidents also occurred at other brigade embarkation points, but it was in Barcelona and other cities in Catalonia where the protests were most violent, during what would be called the Tragic Week. Meanwhile elements of the brigades destined to Melilla had been deployed and were ambushed by rifeños in the Disaster of Barranco del Lobo, resulting in some 150 dead and 600 wounded among the Spanish troops. The news of the casualties stoked the protests, which were finally suppressed with the assistance of 10,000 soldiers from the military regions of Zaragoza and Valencia. The number of soldiers deployed in Melilla reached 45,000, with the combat operations concluded in January 1910, after the loss of 4,000 men, the vast majority of replacement soldiers. One of the measures that was taken to remedy the situation was the creation in June 1911 of the Group of Regulars of Melilla, a unit with Spanish officers and a Moroccan volunteer troop recruited from the rival cabilas of those hostile to Spain. Also in 1911 the universal compulsory military service was legislated, definitively eliminating the redemption and the substitution, but the quota was introduced, which diminished the period of service and improved its conditions in exchange for an economic contribution. Also in 1912 the bodies of Intendance and Intervention were created, and Spain and France agreed to the allocation of territories to their respective protectorates in Morocco, with Spain receiving fringes of territory to the north and south of the country. The occupation and pacification of these territories was the most significant activity of the Spanish Army during the following fifteen years and had considerable influence both in the army and in the rest of the country during most of the rest of the 20th century.

Navy:The history of the Spanish Armada can be dated in the last years of the XV century and the beginning of the XVI century when the two kingdoms (Castilla y Aragón) joined in fact although not yet of right. At that time there was no centralized navy and this was not achieved until the arrival of the Bourbons. What did exist were more or less permanent military fleets that, when necessary, met to fulfill a specific mission.
The preliminaries of this incipient joint Armada can be in first and second expeditions to Italy and the actions of Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba, the "Great Captain" in 1494; but perhaps the first great joint action of the two navies in one was the battle of Mazalquivir in 1505.
In that battle, which began the Spanish campaign in the Berber coast (North of Africa), the organization and planning was the work of Ferdinand the Catholic King of Aragon; But Cardinal Cisneros was the main promoter and even financier, an authentic guarantor of the last wills of Isabel la Católica. For different reasons, both Castile and Aragon needed to control the southern margin of the Mediterranean again making certain the phrase "they were a will in two bodies."

Wait is that true? But that doesn't make sense given the time. If that's the case then I could make a British protectorate looking for freedom and taking South Africa or developing the indusrty first.

Shit, I already have an aging class of Ex-Union army troops, Fresh US army Veterans would be fucking awesome.
I was thinking of not sending troops myself, but to play out southerners joining the cause against the communists in Cuba. They want to have a nation where they are respected and where black people can be second class citizens. They could fight for that in Cuba against godless commies who want to centralise the power of the state.

Oh yeah! It would! A Southern democrat regiment wanting to carve out a little nation inside a nation for themselves, and a free black regiment fighting for their liberation as well. Better to keep those apart.
