This thread is all about the different natural disasters that take place in the nations of NS. Is your country, or a place in your country, known for a certain kind of natural disaster of phenomena? Volcanoes, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, wildfires and blizzards are all some examples of natural disasters.

Here in Hatterleigh, we're known for a whole lot of natural disasters, but a few of these are actually very beautiful events and really don't cause much of a calamity in modern day.
•In North Hatterleigh, there are many geothermal hotspots. Hundreds of volcanoes dot Northern Hatterleigh, and a volcanic eruption actually just shook Hatterleigh recently.
•In contrast to the volcanic activity, the northern reaches of Hatterleigh are also caked in snow every winter. Blizzards aren't uncommon in Northern Hatterleigh during the winter time.
•In Southeast Hatterleigh, hurricane season hits, leaving it's mark.
•On the eastern prairie, windstorms aren't a rare sight, while on the western prairie, you'll occasionally see a twister pop up.

It is hard to classify a number of Cruciland's natural disasters as truly "natural," in the sense that their cylinder-world is entirely man-made, aside from the arcologies. The closest equivalent to a "natural disaster" would be the gale-force winds which blow through the metropolises of the Nomadic Legion's mobile habitat, courtesy of the many winding streets and passages forming massive wind tunnels. Crucilandians have learned to use pipelines and high-speed rail systems to traverse the mega-cities, and avoid placing anything in the wind tunnels that isn't nailed down. They have also learned to take advantage of these natural hostile conditions by placing wind turbines and mills throughout the city.

Outside of their home, there are many, many, many natural disasters in the cold depths of space. Crucilandians have learned to shrug off fiery nebulae, passing hypervelocity stars, rogue black holes, gamma ray bursts, and even false vacuums during their time wandering the stars. Different universes may have different phenomena, and they have had to adapt as they hop from universe to universe in search of new queries to hunt.

Anvil has sea access and thus a major threat are tsunamis. More rare are tornadoes.

St. Perpetua is a rocky archipelago off the coast of Brazil. Right in the headwinds of the South Brazil Current, it periodically experiences hurricanes. Additionally, its seismic and geothermal activity periodically subjects it to volcanoes and earthquakes. Indeed, the 2010 earthquake was a precipitating factor in the 2011 riots that sparked the Revolution.

Severe weather, tornadoes, flash flooding, wildfires and icy weather are the most common and are dealt with yearly. Usually nothing more than a minor annoyance to locals while tourists might find -50°F to be insane. Severe weather only happens in the southern half up into the pine forest regions of the country, occasionally a severe storm might form along the coast. Tornado outbreaks can happen across the southern plain regions of the country during the summer months (June to September) with some violent tornadoes possible. Flash flooding is more of a problem for people living along a major river or creeks and valleys in rural parts of the pine forests and mountains. Most cities and towns have adequate drainage systems to deal with it.

Mild to moderate earthquakes (1.0 to 5.9) are common enough that most people don't even think about them. Our structures are built to easily withstand them. Strong earthquakes (6.0+) do pose a risk but are rare enough. We are located along the Pacific/North American plates. The further east you go the rarer earthquakes are.

Tsunamis are more rare but a danger for anyone living along the Pacific Coast. We have eleven volcanoes, four of which are explosive. None of which have erupted since the 1990s.

Astrolinium is occasionally subjected to Mediterranean cyclones and earthquakes. The last major earthquake was in 2011, when a 5.2 earthquake struck at a fault approximately 10 km north of Astrolinium, also affecting the neighboring nations of Malsitar and Eugepae. Several older buildings sustained some level of damage, most notably the Church of St. Nikolas, the island's primary Eastern Orthodox church, which suffered a complete collapse. The last major cyclone was Cyclone Alonzo, which affected Astrolinium in early September of last year. The storm peaked at 105.6 kph winds when it passed by the island, causing minor flooding in low-lying areas and some structural damage to the North Shore Docks. This was unusual, as most cyclones which reach Astrolinium lose their teeth passing over Sardinia to the west.

Volcanu suffers from extreme volcanic activity with major volcanic eruptions happening every minute.

Although they rarely occur forest fires are quite devastating due to the amount large amount of forests in are nation they can spread like, well..wildfire!

Essu Beti has annual monsoons that routinely cause floods, property damage, and the occasional drowning. They’ve also caused a shut down of all future road-building attempts because the roads keep being washed out mid-construction.

Other than that, do crocodiles count as natural disasters? Some of them can get pretty darn big. And mean. And have no fear of man or elf.

We are a small island nation. Because of that, we face many hurricanes. We also have volcanic activity (rarely), and severe storms, sometimes containing tornados.

Because of this, we have a comprehensive Island Weather Service. Also, when there is a major weather event, the volunteer militia usually comes in and helps the survivors.

As a nation mostly consisting of many islands, earthquakes are our most present threat.

Hurricanes, tropical storms, severe weather and flooding are the primary threats. Occasionally a waterspout might move ashore and cause damage. A tsunami is possible but one hasn't happened in hundreds of years.

Hurricanes and flooding are the most common natural hazards the islands face on a regular basis. AHSCA has a very potent wet season where exceptional rainfall will last for days or weeks at a time even causing rising waters at high tide. During AHSCA's dry season the winds shift allowing tropical storms to cross paths with the islands. Given the remote location of AHSCA and lack of any significant landmasses nearby, these storms seldom have a chance to weaken. Tsunamis have happened before in history but aren't super common.

Being a northern country, we get blizzards fairly regularly, especially in the boreal forests and extensive taiga on our northern frontier. However, Southern Andyrssia, which is where roughly 90% of our population lives, has a very mild, coastal climate.

As an interstellar entity spanning multiple planets, our most prominent natural disasters vary. Our homeworld has a dense atmosphere, so even standard storms are a significant threat, as well as hurricanes. Additionally, our low gravity and the tidal pull of our parent planet, a gas giant, allows oceanic waves to reach magnificent heights, making tsunamis another infamous threat.

Some of the more unusual natural phenomena that occur on colonized worlds can include massive dust storms, radiation storms, solar wind, glass rain and supervolcanic eruptions.

Western and Northern Donnegall most often have to face strong winds from the coast and sometimes there's flood danger. But Donnegall has good evacuation procedures and emergency plans.

Some of the most notable natural disasters that occur on a somewhat regular basis include: wildfires, landslides, flooding, winter storms, severe freeze, and tsunami waves. However, the most frequent and perhaps the most well-known are earthquakes. The vast majority of Sierrans live and work in the San Andreas Fault zone, running nearly the length of the entire country.

The most common natural disasters in New England are floods from heavy rain, and occassional nor'easters. Every few decades, we get an actual hurricane. We are thankfully safe from any seismic disasters.
