Alright dumb question. How fast can one possibly shoot a semi-auto handgun. My character in my novel and short story uses a modified 1911a1 that holds 10 rounds. I'm using "because demons and magic" as the reason for why he can empty all 10 rounds and reload in the time it takes the average person to shoot twice. Though I am interested in how fast one can theoretically empty all 10 rounds in the real world.

Assuming it takes about a second to pull the trigger, and a half second for the round to fire, that adds up to 1.5 seconds, although that's a very rough aproximation that's probably wrong. So 1.5 times 10 equals 15 seconds, if my numbers are right, which is unlikely. :p

iirc, the cyclic of a handgun is ridiculous...

Such as is the case of the Glock 17.

K, then, have some normal people

So yes, compared to them, even Jerry-levels of competance can outstrip average shooters with a 3 or 6 to one rate.

I have gotten ~0.3 second split times with my Glock 17, and there's tons of competition shooters faster than I am. Especially so with a nice, tuned 1911 trigger. You could easily get to a rate of fire of one tenth of a second or so, but a regular person just smashing away at the trigger is still probably going to be firing faster than one round per second, just quite inaccurately.

Wow my character is faster than the legend himself. He makes the 1911a1 shoot as fast as the glock the only difference is 10 round clip vs 50 round drum. The AK was the sexiest part of the whole video the guy makes it look like the recoil is next to none.

Though, for speed Bob Munden has my heart.

I always make a point to push my rate of fire to "fastest comfortable aimed fire on a preheated barrel" just to get a realistic-ish picture of what that'll do to how recoil will stack.

Maintaining 2to 4 MOA is pretty decent for a minute (or half-minute) double-40 dump (rifle, AR-15, 16" pencil barrel, shifts about half an MOA to the left and a hair low with dispersion primarily being vertical).

The last part is the kicker. I am hardly an average shooter, but it is very easy for my rate if fire to exceed my accuracy.

Now imagine how fast Jerry would be if he decided to cut his accuracy.

They might count it as automatic fire, which is not possible with an M1911 as far as I know.

I actually had some plans for a 1911 full auto conversion on my old PC (they were very old and just a .pdf scan of some documents), I'm a bit sad I lost those cuz I wanted to try and mess with it at some point.
