GUN TALK: Doubletap

Postby Pax Nerdvana » Mon Jun 04, 2018 4:59 am

Colonel Jeff Cooper's Rules of Gun Safety. Familiarize yourself with them. It could save a life.
Seeing as the last thread has reached 500 pages, I have set up a new one, starting with the original OP.
Last thread: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=311648
Female Air Force Command of Allison wrote:After looking for some time through the forums I was not able to find a thread where people could discuss the guns of their dreams with other people, so I have decided that I would try to make a forum where we could all come together and talk guns.

Just to get started I will tell you a little bit about my favorite gun.
My favorite gun is not a hand held fire arm but I have actually seen this gun tested on a simulated combat warzone that was made at an Air Force base I used to be stationed at:

(Image)

The GAU 8/A Avenger is a minigun commonly used on the front of the modern day A-10 Warthog.
When this baby fires from the skies rounds come out so fast that it takes about 20 seconds after leaving the barrel for the sound to be heard. The fire power on these things can turn a dense forest in to a flat land foundation in one run.

So with that out of the way I would love to hear what guns you are intereasted in.

To add onto this post and share my opinion a little, as you all probably know by now, I love Winchester lever actions. They have a nice design asthetic, wood stocks, and a good design. They're also way out of my price range (for now).

I am talking actual muskets.
Alright, I've only fired one of these things once, and it was a replica and in fact overral guns tend to leave me completely cold, but I don't know, there's something with early firearms that fascinates me.

It felt kinda awkward but I don't have many bases for comparison.
I just pictured myself standing in the middle of a battlefield, trying to reload that thing while being fired upon - god, it took some nerve to fight back then.

Flintlock. It was a replica of an XVIIIth century French musket though I don't remember the exact model. It was only firing blanks, though - it was a replica used by reenactors.
But then with this kind of weapons I'm more interested in learning how they were maintained and reloaded than in firing them. Yeah, kinda silly, I know.

I personally prefer caplocks, but flintlocks are cool too. With a musket, you have to make sure to clean any buildup out of the barrel and action.
