Inappropriate Advertising Report Thread

Gahh, that's so disappointing. I rewrote our whole ad platform to shift to something that offers less revenue but more ability to block problematic ad networks and apparently it hasn't fixed it.

Please do post here to let me know ASAP of any browser-hijacking ads or redirects, even if they're already reported, so I can track how successful I'm being at stopping them. If you can include the URL and/or a screenshot, that's super helpful.

More questions for people seeing these bad ads:

(1) Do they appear when you are on the forum.nationstates.net or http://www.nationstates.net or when moving between the two? If it's the latter, which way are you going (i.e. to or from the forums?)

(2) Are you using a mobile device? (I think the answer is yes for everyone experiencing bad ads.) Can you confirm that you're using the mobile theme as well, not the desktop theme?

If you only see bad ads when using a mobile device with the desktop theme, or in the forums, then I understand what the problem is. If not, I need to investigate further.

1. Always on the main NS site, whether it be looking at nations, factbooks, or regions. Never on the forums.

2. Yes, I'm using an Android cell phone 100% of the time I'm on NS. I'm also always using the mobile theme.

Only when on https/nationstates.net

1) Never on the Forums, so far.

2) Yes, I'm on mobile when this happens. Specifically using (What I'm pretty sure is) the mobile theme in Chrome. In fact, it just happened again.

I thought it was fixed for a bit, as I wasn't running into any on my normal nations, but one popped up tonight.

Periodically, I when I click a link I will be forcibly redirected to an ad site from w4 tracking, I've only noticed when doing this in my tablet as I can't install noscript or Adblock extensions. Is this some kind of adware or a site based advertisement. It's getting tiresome mashing the back button to fight redirect sinkholes like this, so I'd very much like an answer.

You can post to the inappropriate advertising thread. They said they were working with a new company & are on the hunt to stop the bad ads. Links are helpful I think, so grab that url next time it happens & share it there

Yes, please report these here. Even if you can't get an URL or screenshot, I'd like to hear any time it happens, so I can tell whether we're blocking the right people.

Lucky winner, limited time only, standard spam stuff. So far it only seems to happen on the forum. Am using my iPad, but on desktop theme.

Never fall for that. It is usually disguised as something trying to get your information. Never fall for it, no matter how appealing or real it seems to be. :eyebrow:

I just saw an explicit ad that I’d like to report. I don’t want to get in trouble describing it so I’ll just say it was highly pornographic. I did not look at it for too long so I don’t know what it was an ad for or what company posted it but I want to make someone official aware.
